Video Tuesday

IHJ has uploaded a couple of new Prince of Persia features, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton. The first shows Jake talking about the movie over the now familiar clips, in the now familiar Facebook interview setting. But with a different shirt!

The second clip is the third Disney Surfer featurette. This one focuses on Tamina, but there's still a lot of Dastan.

Look out for this guy at your local bus stop!

Some more PoP screening reaction:

Saw the sneak preview of the Prince of Persia. Not bad, but there have been a lot of movies in that vein recently. Good plot twist.

just saw Prince of Persia and thought it was pretty good!

Just have seen Prince of Persia. Great movie !

A must see movie, "Disney's Prince of Persia"!! It blew us all away and was totally AWESOME!!! I give it a 5 out of 5 Stars!!! Go see it May 28th!!

We saw an advanced screening of the Prince of Persia last night. If you like the swash buckling type of movies, than this is your type of movie. There was alot of action and Jake Gyllenhaal is quite the gymnast.

From a blogger:

He was awesome in this movie, I just loved it!The stunts were amazing, the affects were incredible and I loved the story. I am not a fan of snakes at all, whatsoever, not even in the least, I am really terrified of them. There are a lot of scary snakes in the movie. That, I was not a fan of. If you have a young boy though, I think that he will love this movie, it has all of the action and thrill that little boys love! I think that this will be a summer block buster!

And from an IMDb user review

The film stands alone, and does not require it's audience to be intimately familiar with the source material. The nods to the game throughout were great, but I was relieved that I was able to enjoy this film for what it was, rather than constantly looking for where it deviated from the games.

This movie clearly was made for someone like me, and in my party of four, three of us, who were all guys, loved it. The fourth, who was the only woman in the group, was less than impressed, and complained that it was too much action. If you're expecting Citizen Kane, you stand to be disappointed, but if you expect this to be another video game adaptation, you are in for a real treat!

These comments are really great! That one made me laugh outloud!

Watching the new videos, Gemma's Jake's enthusiasm is definitely contagious. He seems happy and well-pleased. Altho, the stuntwork looks scarey...but then I'm not in
my 20's. I could very easily fall off a curb...and have! :)

The reviews so far have been great!!

LOL, I love the Citizen Cane comment!

UltraViolet said...

I do think Jake's enthusiasm is genuine. I've seen a few quotes form Gemma that make me wonder if she enjoyed the film as much. But they seem great together,

Disney is asking people for questions for Jake and the PoP cast. My favorites so far:

Why is Jake so hot?

What is Jake doing at 9:30 on Friday? (Very specific - what if Jake were free at 8:00?!)

Can I get free tickets to this movie? (I think that one id for Sir Ben.)

can Jake come to my house and give me a private screening of the film?

The square root of blue is silent lucidity.

The videos are fantastic! And so are those reviews...thanks UV.

Great to see Jake in his element.

London is very lucky now to have him in the city.

All the press for PoP is great. I really hope Jake does the chat show here in the US too.

That should be Citizen Kane of course!! Gemma and Jake looks like they got along very well during the filming, nice chemistry.

Princess Tamina is fiesty and fends for herself, I think she will be a great role model for the girls that see this film.

Oh too have that poster at my bus stop to work, better than a cup of java! I hope to see one poster soon !

That was a fun video interview of Gemma, she definately is excited and I agree that part of Jake's excitement rubbed off on her.

Some of the questions on facebook are really funny, he looks so relaxed in that interview.

I can't wait to see Jake do the talk shows and I'm thrilled that Pop is getting such positive reviews from the early screenings!

UltraViolet said...

I'm eager for the TV circuit, too, sheba baby. All this promotion makes me forget it's still more than three weeks away here, damn it!

You New Yorkers will have him soon, get real :)

We knew you meant Kane, SAG Actor! I swear, all this posting on the internet has made me a terrible typo-ist.

I think I gae the wrong link for all the questions - the actual FB PoP movie page has a longer list - 160 and counting!

Hi, Jen - welcome! I don't think it's just your imagination. Either the number yesterday wasn't correct or those FB ads today really made an impression!

I was always surprised the number of fans was so low, so I'm happy to see this.

The Cinematographers of Summer
John Seale — Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (May 28) — One reason I’m interested in seeing PoP:SoT is the for the subdued beauty 4-time Oscar nominee Seale brings to all his movies (Witness, The Talented Mr Ripley, Cold Mountain, The English Patient, The Perfect Storm, Rain Man). Did I say ‘one reason I’m interested’? Make that the only reason.

He did a fantastic job on these films.

What a fantastic image of Inception!

UltraViolet said...

A little sarcastic, but it's good to know the cinematographer is well regarded. The movie certainly "looks" great from what we've seen so far.

Here's a rundown of all of the PoP books connected to the movie.

Aww! From one of the twitterers above who met Jake today:

Jake G is officially the nicest actor I've met! (:

This is driving me nuts! I wish I was in London!

It's been fascinating watching this PR campaign unfold, and build. I'm enjoying every second! We are SO spoiled right now!
The personal encounters always bring a smile.

bobbyanna said...

I know the feeling mary! I wish I were in London, then NYC, AND L.A.! LOL! Fortunately, we can all meet here and enjoy all the reports, the pictures, video clips and the tweets!

Once PoP finally opens wide
May28th, I'm sure UV, FL, and Jake will all need a vacay! ...just not together!:)

Get Real said...

Aww, I love all the tweets!

Great cinematographer for sure.

UV, I know we are lucky that he will be here soon. However, not sure about any NYC premiere, just LA. Just hope he is on any of these shows, Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, The View, Daily Show, Colbert.

bobbyanna said...

I read somewhere that Sprint is supposed to be sponsoring a special event screening for PoP, May 12th in NYC. I only saw it advertised that one day or two. Don't know anymore about it.

mary said...

get real jake is scheduled to be on jimmy kimmell on may 20th i believe

Chica said...

I love reading tweets like that and the cinematography is gorgeous as pointed out by the snarky reviewer!

I love how Disney is building this up too and I can't wait until he starts doing promo in NY too Get real. So far he is scheduled for Kelly and Regis, ugh. But I hope he does Letterman and the Daily show.

I haven't seen any posters at any of my bus stops yet but I have seen a few on the side of some buses.

The Pop facebook has really exploded!!

That's quite a list of Pop related books UV, thanks for the link! I have the Pop Visual Guide book on order.

That May 12th Pop/Sprint event in NY was by invitation only I think Bobbyanna. I don't know why they would advertise an invitation only event, I would assume it's for the press.

30 seconds of each song in the soundtrack of Prince of Persia:
Prince of Persia

I found this here written by my favorite film critic of Brazil.

He said he watched the movie POP this morning in Sao Paulo, because it was a requirement of Jerry Bruckheimer that all journalists watched the movie in their country of origin. In the audience were non-journalists too. He confessed he could not watch the reaction of these people(non-journalists), because he was "traveling" in the sands of time.

He said the film starts very smart, but I will not tell everything to avoid spoilers. For me it is not spoiler, but maybe for some people.

Luis said that Jerry and Mike are trying to politicize the movie, at least so it seems.
He is on his way to Paris and from there to London, where will be junkett of Prince of Persia.
This post happened this afternoon, from the airport. I think the junkett will be tomorrow.
His next post will be directly from London.

Monica said...

Sorry, he's going to London and from there to Paris and Cannes. The junkett happen tomorrow.

Thanks Monica, I didn't realize the soundtrack was up yet. I love it - some of them are very affecting. The main theme song I love. :)

UltraViolet said...

Thanks for the links, Monica. Did the Brazilian reviewer have an overall positive reaction, do you think?

And man, that Bergstein is a real operator. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.

Chica, I couldn't believe there are that many PoP books! I skimmed the article, but the reviewer seemed positive about them.

A spoilery PoP review from a blogger:

"Prince of Persia," in fact, might just be the perfect summer movie - high on action (for the guys), featuring the attractive Jake Gyllenhaal (for the girls), and coming off as interesting but also a little fluffy. ...

It's hard to summarize this movie because it has so many plot turns, and since it's a fantasy movie there is a lot of stuff in it that may seem absurd (the movie can basically be summed up with this sentence: "Who has the dagger now, and what are they going to do with it?"). Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley, and Gemma Arterton all give superb performances in their roles, and it looks like Gyllenhaal had to bulk up quite a bit to play the agile and muscular Prince Dastan. In addition, Alfred Molina ("An Education") has a guest role as a crazy sheik who hates paying taxes and loves racing ostriches, which provides much comedic relief from all the action scenes.

I would say Yes, see this movie. The action scenes in the movie were enthralling, and the dialogue kept the movie going and was often funny and fresh. The plot in "Prince of Persia" was interesting as well, and although the movie is about two hours long, I barely checked my watch during it - always a sign of a good movie.

That is a good sign :)

I won't keep doing this, as the days go on, I'm sure there will be more and more screenings. But here are some more tweets and FB comments. I don't think there were as many screenings tonight as last night. At least, there weren't as many mentions:

Saw "Prince of Persia" yesterday. Good movie. Better than I thought it would be! Great for the whole family to see. It might seem weird to see Jake Gyllenhaal as the star, but he really is perfect for this movie.

Prince of Persia = bad bad bad. White people pretending to be brown. Bad accents all around. Graphics worse than a 90s videogame. Film school editing. Repetitive. Razzie-worthy acting. TOO LONG.

Also saw Prince of Persia with Jake Gyllenhaal not a movie I would normally pick out but glad I saw it, also great

enjoyed the advance sacreening of Prince of Persia this morning with Disney executives.

Prince Of Persia...two thumbs up!

Just saw a preview screening of Prince of Persia. Let's just say I'm glad it was free. It is not the new Pirates. Sorry Disney.

i saw the sneak preview of prince of persia at the landmark theather. it was the best movie. there were posters after the movie
