Jake gets "hard, dirty, rough"

Jake Gyllenhaal is everywhere these days: Online, on the radio, in print and on telephone booths.

The spotlight has definitely been on Prince of Persia and its Disney-friendly promotion. But in an interview for Elle, there's talk of Jake's next project, Love and Other Drugs. Director Ed Zwick promises a new Jake:

Zwick says, doing his best to amp up expectations as I prepare to meet Gyllenhaal in Montreal (he’s on location shooting a sci-fi thriller, Source Code): “I think you’ll be seeing aspects of him that no one has ever seen before.”

In place of the grown-up child-actor narcissism you might expect, Gyllenhaal seems to have an aggressively beatific urge to connect with everything and everyone around him, as if he has just walked out of the ballroom at a human-potential seminar.

“That’s a real guy you had breakfast with,” Anne Hathaway says afterward. “A lot of actors only know how to be real when the camera is rolling, but Jake is unbelievably warm and open and welcoming. There’s no mistake why he’s so charming on-screen.” She should know, although in Brokeback, Gyllenhaal’s character couldn’t dance around Hathaway fast enough to wrestle with Heath Ledger in the high pines. (While Ledger and costar Michelle Williams were beginning a passionate affair, “Jake and I were geeking out over The Simpsons.”) But in Love and Other Drugs, Gyllenhaal and Hathaway take the on-screen chemistry in a distinctly hetero direction.

The movie explores the relationship between Jake's character and one played by Anne Hathaway, Jake's Brokeback Mountain co-star. But in LaOD, they are going to do more than dance:

“I lured her to do the movie by telling her that [Brokeback] wasn’t our love story, this one should be,” he says in an admission of tactical charm. He’s a Big Pharma drug rep, she’s an artist in the early stages of Parkinson’s disease, and they fall in love in a no-holds-barred sort of way, exposing at least as much flesh as Gyllenhaal did in his near-naked dance in the Gulf War sufferfest Jarhead. “We’re going to learn the hard, dirty, rough parts of ourselves and share them at the same time,” is how he describes their dramatic approach. “Jake invites vulnerability,” Hathaway says. “He’s not afraid of that.”

There's apparently more of the interview in the magazine.

Stephanie uploaded some of the highlights from Jake's visit to Disney Radio on Friday. He looks like he's having a great time!

Jake takes a question about one of the actions scenes:

Jake was also on the radio in Dublin, where the presenters gush about Jake's eyes.

Morning, all. I expect that title will get some attention :)

It's been hard to keep up with all the articles. These ones have some good bits:

Jake talks British, disses his family's snobby movie tastes

Jake talks about Paul Newman

What a difference five years makes

Jake wants to join the WonderCon geeks

A note on the Elle article - both Anne and Ben Kingsley have remarked that Jake allows himself to be vulnerable on screen.

That BW picture of Jake is beautiful.
I'm really looking forward to LAOD. Jake and Anne were in BBM together, which is one of my all time favourites and maybe LAOD will become another favourite? :)

Jake gets "hard, dirty, rough", it sure the hell got my attention this morning! I can't wait to see him and Annie in LAOD.

From the previous post:
I loved the video of him at that Pop screening, Sex and the City indeed! He is so funny, and that was so sweet that she got to celebrate her B-day.

He is everywhere and it's so hard to catch up, thanks so much for posting his bit on MTV so I didn't have to indure it UV:))

After some coffee, I'll read interviews you posted.

I can offically stop whining about the lack of Pop posters and billboards, they are enough here in NY includng one up in Times square!

UV, you are amazing!!! Jake Gyllenhaal needs to come to your house and personally present you with a birthday cake!!...when the time comes, I am sure many of us will want to be there to "support " you...

Love the B/W! This avalanche of articles, videos, etc. is incredible! I'm really looking forward to LAOD, SC, and whatever else Jake signs up for!

Yaay, chica!!! Glad PoP has finally asserted itself in the NYC promotion wars! I've never seen so much hype for such a small thing, as for SATC.

They're hyping the outfits, the locales, and the cameos. Liza doing Beyonce'?
Sounds like it's a crapfest.

SATC's really all about consumerism, & fashion industry PR is hyping it like crazy. I'm urging anyone I know who's so inclined, to go see it if they must,...but wait a week.:)

I think I have just found what very well may be my all time favorite gyllenbabble uttered by Jake! :)

Loved the Radio Disney clips. He's just so wonderfully relaxed and cute in them.

Can't wait for the June issue of Elle. Annie's comment about Jake being a real person was so lovely. And Jake's quote about "luring" her to the project was equally sweet. I have high hopes for LaOD!

UV, are you exhausted yet? Don't know how you can possibly keep up with everything that is happening now, but I am thrilled and so grateful that you do!

I love that b&w photo of Jake and I loved the Radio Disney clips! I love how at ease and spontaneous he is there and he obviously is having a ball promotong this film.

I remember him mentioning in a previous interview that he wanted to be a basketball player when he was young. Hey, isn't he supposed to be in Boston tonight UV & FL??!!

Glad he cleared up (again) the story that Paul Newman taught him how to drive, another false story that has been repeated. Interesting comment on his family and their taste in moves vs his.

I love reading how he "lured" Annie into doing LAOD, LOL!

Kudos UV for keeping up with all these incredible videos and interviews!

Hey everyone. It's a beautiful day in Boston so I hope Jake is somewhere fun enjoying it. I'm sitting at the beach :).

I just love that black and white photo. Eager to see what else is in the magazine.

The Disney radio appearance was wonderful. I missed it entirely so I'm very grateful to Stephanie for capturng it. And so fast.

Suvee, I loved the carnation quote! A very good bit of Babble.

Good to hear that NYC had its billboards. I should clarify that I have seen PoP stuff at the movies. Just not on the subway.

I promise that if Jake brings me a birthday cake, I'll let you all know:)

Forgot to say that I adore what Anne said about Jake in the Elle piece. And it's interesting that Jake helped bring her into the project. Love the way he lured her in!

Carnation, reincarnation? Good to see that his gyllenbabble is alive and well! Elle is a magazine that I don't buy, but I wil to read the rest of this interview. Jake is so smooth they way he convinced Annie to do LOAD!

I think Jake may have found a side job as a DJ, not bad at all! I love how he answered the first caller about parkour.

I came across this fan video via twitter, it's one of the funniest things I have seen but I have to warn everyone that watches it, the girl uses naughty language to describe what she wants to do to Jake:) So if you are offended by such language, don't watch!

Hope you are enjoying the beach UV!

Found out that the fan video was actually done by Stephanie Holmes, comedienne, she has done a bunch:

UV/FL, you can delete the link if you think it's in poor taste,I think it's funny!

Jake looked great, though he was too afraid (or too smart!) to declare himself a Lakers fan at heart, hee.

Lots of shots of Jake and Chris in the background.

It's fun to know Jake is in the same city :)

I'm watching the game and they are sitting near the Orlando Magic!

I saw the moment when the camera showed Chris. awwwwww

I think I already have confessed here that I have a bit of a crush on Chris:)

They both look great, I guess Jake is rooting for the Celtics since he is a Lakers/Celtics fan!

I'm all for rough and dirty Jake, love reading how Jake got Anne to take the part in LAOD. I'm really looking forward to seeing this.
I love b&w photos and this one of Jake is stunning.

It's going to be a busy week for Jake coming up, the reviews have been mixed to good as it has already been pointed out, can't wait for Friday!

Thanks so much for the links to the interviews UV. I can imagine Jake wanting to join the geeky fans at WonderCon, those conventions are so much fun and the fans are really into dressing up.

Oh, OONP, who DOESN'T?? :-))

I like Chris but have never felt esp. attracted to him. (nor would he be attracted to me - ha) But am sure he's a great guy.
And it's always nice to have a friend you have known for many years before you were "famous".

Me too.

I'm always glad to see Chris! He's definitely "crush" material. I noticed Mr. BG was sitting right in back of Jake.

Count me in for the "Have a Little Crush on Chris" ladies...:-)

Jake was everywhere and had to promote PoP and it won´t end during the next days - good to see him relaxed and having fun at the sports game.

The Disney radio videos were so nice - thanks for all the goodies and your hard work, I don´t know how you manage this with work and daily life.

It looks like in LAOD we will be seeing a Jake we have seen before. I also find it interesting that Jake talked Anne into the film. Reading some of the comments it looks like this one could be "R" Rated.

I am happy that after the PoP madness has ended we have again something exciting to look forward -and not to forget "Source Code".

UltraViolet said...

It will be weird when all the madness dies down, Carla. But we do have much more to look forward to - in the madness and then later, as you said.

New post, to continue the madness :)
