Jake doesn't take Viagra. Or himself seriously.

Jake Gyllenhaal has been in London promoting Prince of Persia. Yesterday, he appeared on the Jonathan Ross Show, and he's been seen multiple times at Claridge's hotel.

Finally - the chinos are gone! So it the smile, for these few photos.

There is a press day today, and several twitterers have commented on what a nice guy Jake is. One interviewer even posted his pic with Jake.

In interviews with the BBC and Reuters, Jake says he decided to play the Prince in order to take himself less seriously:

I think it was about time I stopped taking myself so seriously," the actor said, when asked why he had followed the likes of Tobey Maguire and Robert Downey Jr. into action movies.

"When I was a little younger, and I did start (acting) so young, I think you tend to try and be a little bit more of what you think other people might want or what people might consider to be interesting.

"And then I think I found that I've just decided to do what I find interesting. That doesn't mean I'm not going to do films that are darker later on," he added.

Jake also says he's ready to play the Prince again if this is the beginning of a franchise:

"I think about kids saying 'you're the Prince of Persia!' That I wouldn't mind being locked into," he said.

And that he knows true PoP gamers are ready to come after him if the movie doesn't live up to their standards:

"They (gamers) are tough, and I appreciate that. I come from a tough family. I don't mind tough critics."

Some tidbits from Jake's appearance on the Jonathan Ross show, which will air on Friday in the UK:

Hearth-throb Jake Gyllenhaal speaks about bulking up for his new movie, Prince of Persia, and how he plays a Viagra salesman in his next movie, even though he states “I have no problems in that area”!

One lucky Adam Lambert fan was selected from the audience to compete against Jake in a pickled onion contest. It sounds, and apparently was, disgusting. But it also sounds like meeting Jake - and hugging and kissing him - plus a signed Adam Lambert CD more than made up for it.

Jake Gyllenhaal was the last guest and it was a hilarious (and the longest) interview. I’ve always loved Jake, as do the majority of the female population, and he was such a good guest and really made everyone laugh. During Jake’s interview, they were talking about how good a cook Jake is, and Jonathan made him eat a pickled onion. Jake spat most of it out which was hilarious, and it was just generally a really nice end to the show.

Definitely read her account of the actual contest. It sounds like Jake was as adorable as the pickled onions were horrible. She also thanked Jake for:

being sooo lovely to me, letting me win and who is stunning up close.

"You will do my bidding!"

A Times Online about PoP:

Mike Newell grins in the darkness and yells: “Cut! Gemma sweetheart, there’s going to be a bit of trouble with the right side of Jake’s hair.” We’re crouched in a desert tent in a Pinewood Studios sandstorm, watching Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton, the two leads of Disney’s latest mega-budget fairytale grapple with the fate of 6th-century Persia, the first glimmers of romance — and Gyllenhaal’s newly flowing locks.

Newell, the British director of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Donnie Brasco, has been entrusted by the über-producer Jerry Bruckheimer with adapting the 2003 hit video game Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time, which the Disney bean counters hope could become a franchise to rival their own Pirates of the Carribean series.

His leading man smiles a movie-star smile, tucks the offending tress behind his ear and looks down at the assembled members of the international press poking their heads under the awning of the tent. “Shall we show our visitors something neat?” Gyllenhaal brays in Brideshead English (this being movie antiquity, everybody speaks RP).

Also, don't forget that Jake is supposed to be on Entertainment Tonight in the US tonight.

Leigh is one lucky girl, even if it meant eating a pickled onion, how vile! I wonder if they will show the bit on Ross' show? I can't wait to see the interview.

Thanks for the link anon. he looks so good!

Ha, no chinos! He wasn't smiling but at least he signed a few autographs.

Glad to hear that Jake doesn't need viagra:)

He has such a great and quirky sense of humor, and i'm glad that he doesn't take himself seriously.

I know I have said it already and I will say it again: thanks so much UV and FL for keeping up with all the fast breaking Jake news here! This is the only Jake blog I stop by to catch up, so thanks. The reviews have been fantastic!!

Now Jake will make me do something I hate tonight: watch Entertainment Tonight!

That Brazilian critic talked about the interview with Jake Gyllenhaal‏:
This morning, I began the round of interviews, which continued in the afternoon. Gemma, Jake, Sir Ben, Mike Newell, the author of the game, Jordan Melcher. The powerful Jerry Bruckheimer will be tomorrow.

The interview with Jake Gyllenhaal was amazing. This guy is a family man. He talked more about the filmmaker father (Stephen) and sister actress (Maggie) than the movie. He said he loves to cook, which is part of his routine to prepare the food and go to market and selecting the ingredients. He has a dog that accompanies him on stage in the theater and film sets. On the set, the dog, very playful, learning the codes and sound and freezes when he hears 'Shoot', coming back to stay agitated at the time of 'Cut', when it invades the scene to try to overthrow the young man of Brokeback Mountain. I know a lot of people of all genders who would love to be a dog to play with Jake. I'll see 'The Prince of Persia' again tomorrow night. I lost a piece and want to take the test. I liked what I saw, but my portuguese friends do not put faith that the film will repeat the success of the franchise 'Pirates of the Caribbean', which, incidentally, has one fourth episode in which Penelope Cruz turns the love interest of Jack Sparrow / Johnny Depp.

It would be very cool to be able to watch the JR show as it airs.

The site that's streaming the Saturday live chat with the PoP cast also seems to be streaming the premiere.

We'll see what we actually see!

Another interviewer blogged a bit about Jake. I also posted that pic in the post.

Jake Gyllenhaal is just so fab...

I met Jake Gyllenhall and Sir Ben Kinglsey yesterday in London to chat about the brand new Jerry Bruckheimer blockbuster, Prince of Persia Sands of Time, out May 28th. You’ll hear the interviews next week. Jake is probably one of the soundest Hollywood A Listers I’ve ever met telling me he loves reading cook books to relax, I just love when guys cook!

Gemma talks about kissing Jake:

Can't blame her for feeling giddy!

Finally, a very, very short video of Jake leaving Claridge's.

Anon, the Rex Features photos are nice. Looks like Jake had a great time. I read somewhere that his interview was over 30 minutes. Too bad we won't get to see every moment!

Paula, thanks for the thanks. I appreciate the kind words - and thanks for being a loyal GBer!

It's fun to try to keep up but it has been a whirlwind these past few weeks. What will we do in the dog days of summer!

If you actually watched ET, you'll know it was mostly stuff from the featurettes we've seen. I think Stephanie has the video up on youtube.

The Viagra note was amusing. Glad Jake has set the record straight!

Monica, thanks for translating the Brazilian critic's thoughts. I hope he will still like PoP after seeing it again.

Loved the stuff about Atticus knowing Action and Cut. He's an industry dog!

Interesting that Jake talked mostly not about the movie. I'm sure he's ready to talk about anything else at this point!

Well, maybe not anything :)

So true! I am trying to catch up with all the reports, twitters, interviews....I don´t know how you manage to find all those little gems.

Also thank you everyone who gives us links and reports from other countries. At the moment there is not much to report from Germany. Jake is on the cover of the biggest film magazine with a long article and great pictures (although nothing new) and some ads at film sites but nothing on TV so far. This will probably change during the next few weeks.

What will we be doing during the summer - perhaps some LAOD news - pictures or a trailer? Some film festival news - Venice and/or Toronto?

It has been a fun whirlwind so far but I have enjoyed reading all of his interviews from this junket.

Thanks so much UV and Monica for the links to his latest interviews. I loved reading Leighbaby's account of her onion caper with Jake on the Ross show! He looks really sharp in those pics anon., thanks for the link.

I saw Jake's segment on ET last night, it was nothing new but they will have new stuff on Monday from the London junket according to M. Hart.

I caught the ET report, too.
This is when I really appreciate Gyllenbabble! A lot of the stuff being aired now, or even some recycled comments from print interviews, is stuff we already have, thanks to UV, FL and of course the Amazing Stephanie at IHJ! Damn, you're good! LOL!

I do love seeing PoP stuff on TV with on-air comments, tho! It's always nice to see Jake getting his props. :)
