Zodiac Director's Cut

Available on January 8, the DVD will be a two-disc set, with the director's cut of the movie (four minutes added to the theatrical release), a behind-the-scenes look at the film, in-depth case analysis and two commentary tracks. One is David Fincher alone.

The second commentary track is a bit more sprawling (participants include Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., producer Brad Fischer, screenwriter/producer James Vanderbilt and author James Ellroy; the actors were recorded together, while Vanderbilt, Fischer and Ellroy were recorded together) but just as fascinating, with the actors chatting amongst themselves while the trio dive quite deep into the source material, the project's genesis and theories about the killings. Taken together, it's an exceptional look behind the scenes of this compelling film

I can't wait to hear Jake and RDJ together, but I had hoped Jake and David Fincher would be in the same room and commenting together. I also really wanted to see this scene:

I had hoped for more Jake in the extras. And that made me wonder about the Rendition DVD, which is due out on February 19. I hope that Jake does commentary. Whom would you choose as Jake's commentary partner - Reese, Peter, Gavin Hood? All of the above?

It would be fun to listen to the Jake/Reese interplay, but only if they were relaxed. We don't want it to be like this!

The Observer listed the big hook-ups and break-ups for 2007:

Actors Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe's divorce was finalised in court. Ryan Philippe later revealed that he felt 'suicidal', which may or may not have had anything to do with the fact that Reese Witherspoon quickly moved on with the help of Jake Gyllenhaal.

Finally, in case folks missed it in the comments, Jake was seen on set on Saturday. As always, more details, please!

Hi GLB,
I am totally enjoying this post; having hella much fun looking at the love birds, who must have been bushed, by end of their junket.
Jake was all over the globe, as was Reese; from coast to coast, city to city and talk show to talk show.

Is it any wonder, they took advantage of being in the most romantic of cities, to enjoy each other's company, and rejoice that the madness was over?

The film was out there, and they could let go and date openly, without interfering with its promotion schedule.

They made a very grownup decision, learned the hard way, by everyone in Hollyweird, from the Bennifer/Gigli debacle. My hat is off to them.

Hell, I get jet lag flying Oklahoma City, OK, to Dallas, TX ; and a bit more jet lag flying from LA to NY. :lol:lol.

Forget Jake's itinerary: from LA to NY, to Toronto, to Rome. I'm surprised they didn't fall asleep sitting in those comfy chairs.

Maybe having to pay attention to the questions, and the translations of the questions, helped them keep their eyes open, plus knowing they would be finally spending quality time together, now that they were finally at the end of all the planned promotions.
The answers I heard from them via translation, though shop-worn, were intelligent, respectful and engaging.
They are troopers.

I think I had read somewhere that they were filming "Brothers" through the Holidays, with only a couple of days off for Christmas itself.

I remember reading that Saturday was their last day until the 26th I believe.

I forget where I read that, but I'll think about it and provide the link later.

Sorry for the double post but I remembered one more thing related to what I posted above...

It was also claimed that the film was taking a little longer than expected and that was why they were filming through the holidays. BUT, if I remember correctly, the poster also said the film was coming along real well. I believe this came from imdb, but right now i'm too lazy to look for the exact post. He wrote, that this would be "Jom Sheridan's coming out party" or some such.

Of course I meant JIM Sheridan, not JOM.

Merry Christmas...

So looking forward to the Zodiac dvd, the commentaries should be priceless - really looking forward to them, especially to hear Jake and Robert together. I still await someone writing a really smart comedy where these two could play opposite each other - movie magic with the right script.

I'd have to go with Reese on Rendition, just to get a sense on how they interact together, but I've a feeling it will be Gavin Hood with one or the other.

Ahh Suvee, so it was you, who asked for Manka:

http://search.cityguide.aol.com/sanfrancisco/restaurants/mankas-inverness-lodge/v-101119001

with link to the lodge.

Seems the Gyllenhaals will look for another place this year, even though it appears to be one of their favourite regions.

Sass, I can relate. I always wonder how they found the strength to fulfill all their obligations without falling asleep midsentence.

They sure are busy, these two. So, having not much time to organise and prepare some Christmas festivities, I guess they will celebrate elsewhere, where they will be pampered, can relax and enjoy the time with their loved ones.

Hey Sass! You can definitely see that Reese and Jake are weary. It had been a long journey for them, and they were ready to begin a new phase. I think they are focusing on the questions and trying, as usual, to give thoughtful answers.

Hey JP - I remember the poster who said it would be Sheridan's "coming ot prty." Great news, though its not as if Sheridan is a complete unknown!

Have you heard anything more from the poster who knows Ray Prewitt?

Oh, I so agree, Agent K. They had great timing and chemistry in Zodiac, and I'd love to see that utilized in a comedy.

And I agree about the Rendition commentary, as well. It should be Reese and Jake, with Gavin. And I hope on the Zodiac commentary that RDJ and Jake don't kiss Fincher's ass the whole time. I want to hear them rage on the 80 takes!

And smile, a nice, quiet place where you can be pampered and spend some time with loved ones? Sign me up!

Seriously, I hope they do manage to find some peace and quiet. And that maybe one discreet pap (I told you I love oxymorons) finds them ;)

Thanks, smile, for the Manka's update..... I knew someone had answered my original question, but I couldn't remember where or when. And I appreciated the Christmas menu link, UV. The Dungeness crab with Meyer lemon Hollandaise.... yummy! The venison.... uh, not so much.

Actually, I would really like to hear a joint interview on the "Rendition" dvd beween Jake and the Israeli actor that played Mr. Fawal (sorry, I cannot recall his name). They had so many powerful and intense scenes together, and I thought they had a real chemistry. I know they have both said very complimentary things about each other..... I think it would be fascinating to hear more from them.

"Ryan Philippe later revealed that he felt 'suicidal', which may or may not have had anything to do with the fact that Reese Witherspoon quickly moved on with the help of Jake Gyllenhaal."

Ok, that was funny! Not to make light of Ryan's "pain", but....

I know we all are getting busy with holiday stuff, so I want to wish everyone here a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2008. It's been great sharing this wonderful site with all of you!

Thanks, suvee, we love having you. And everyone else who finds the time to stop in and say hey. And even everyone who stops by just to window shop. We love you, too. :-)

Okay, audio commentary for Rendition. Gavin and Kelley should get their own section - director and screenwriter. Then I think I'd like a Jake, Reese and Peter audio commentary. At the time they weren't, but now they're like one big haaaaapy family. :-)

I often think how Maggie must've felt like odd girl out when Reese came into the fold.

I so can't wait to see the director's cut of "Zodiac".I'm a big Fincher fan!!
And of course the commentary with Jake and Robert is something to look forward to, although I agree that one with Jake and David would be very interesting.

Merry xmas everyone xxxxx

I too would love to see Jake and RDJ in a comedy. Glad to see Zodiac getting some love from critics' annual lists, at least.

Here's a new Maggie pic - she looks really pretty when she smiles, and very severe when she doesn't:

For info on The Dark Knight, this is the best site:

There is an "Official Pics" sticky where set photos of Maggie and Heath can be found.

Best wishes to all.

Just wanted to pop in to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!!!
Youngest daughter is here, Elder daughter arriving noonish tomorrow. Massive power outage turned our house into a deep freeze for nine hours! We are all toasty now and ready to call it a night.
Reflecting a bit: I think in 2007, I saw a new level of maturity in Jake, both in his work and in his personal life, that is very attractive. I really admire his fearless approach to his life and his career.

In case I don't get the chance tomorrow, a Merry Christmas to you all :D Prezzie shopping done, food shopping done - Christmas is by Marks and Spencer this year, those adverts were too hard to resist ;-)

Bobbyanna, I completely agree, there's something about Jake this year, in terms of maturity and growing, you can really see it, he's now a delicious combination of mature male, with still a hint of the giddy youth about him :D

Morning guys,
Google of the day:

http://imtsinghua.com.cn/2007/12/24/you-can-sleep-in-jake-gyllenhaals-bed/

Wonder why they don´t need it at the moment. Maybe the main resident lives elsewhere now?

Can´t really remember if we had that already, link to Indielondon with Zodiac on no. 3

http://www.indielondon.co.uk/TopTens/top-15-best-films-of-2007-5-1

The oregonian lists Zodiac under Movies of the year.
Nothing special, but it really gets recognition.

Wishing you all Merry Christmas, hope you are having a wonderful time with your loved ones, that you too will be pampered and can relax ;) and enjoy this time of the year.
It´s been great to join you in GL on this blog, and I do hope that this will remain for a long time.

Thanks for all the links and comments, everyone.

Smile, I think the Gyllenhaal house rental link is an old one, from the summer. I noticed that site keeps popping up old news, like "Reese dumps Jake!" Not that that ever really happened :)

Hope everyone enjoys a relatively hassle-free Christmas Eve, if you're celebrating. New post and festive theme up - hope you enjoy!
