To major star:

You've had what seems like a wonderful life.

Dreadful etiquette to be the first reply to my own post, but I wanted to share this fun encounter a blogger had with Jake and Reese (who was filming) a couple of weeks back:

Yes, as I stated about a week ago, yours truly managed to wave hello to Reese Witherspoon. In Oakland. I shit you not.

You see, by happenstance, I managed to wind up at a movie theater on December 7th--opening day of the Golden Compass, which I was desperately hoping to see--only for the theater in question to be shut down.

When I asked why it was shut down, one of the employees--an acquaintence of mine--told me that Paramount was shooting a film inside one of the theaters, which shut down the whole business for the matinees. The film in question is apparently "Four Christmases," starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn, no doubt a comedy due out this time next year--provided the two actors don't kill each other first (judging from the gossip I've been hearing about it recently).

When I said that sounded incredible and asked if the stars were actually in there, the employee invited me inside to watch the process, and to partake of the delicious craft services food being provided in a trailer behind the theater.

And, being nearly a starving artist, I am NEVER one to turn down free food.

So I chowed down on free sandwiches, chicken wings, and, wonderfully enough, quiche; drank free soda and vitamin C-boosting grape juice; palled around with some of the members of the production crew, who love bitching about movies just as much as I do; and spotted not just Reese Witherspoon, who was busy talking to her handlers, but also Jake "Donnie Darko" Gyllenhaal... who kissed his girlfriend when she had a free moment, and then noticed that the movie theater would have been playing Blade Runner: The Final Cut, had the theater not been shut down for the day. I recall he said he thought that was "awesome."

Or someone muttered it. I think it was him.

Anyway, once filming had finished for the day, and I waited out in the lobby so the production crew could clear away the heavy floodlights, Mr. Gyllenhaal and Ms. Witherspoon were being escorted out by their driver. Mr. Gyllenhaal, perhaps sensing the spirit of vengeance I'm capable of embodying, sidled behind me, and avoided me on general principle... or perhaps this avoidance was due to a general paranoia that comes with being famous. Take your pick. Ms. Witherspoon, on the other hand, turned to me, smiled, waved, and said "Hi." Which I, for lack of anything witty to say, shamelessly echoed.

She may be shorter in person than I imagined, but damn if she's not a polite person when she's got the opportunity to be.

These Table Hopper folks should send some people to Santa Fe, so we can track Jake's culinary movements there, too!

Reese and Jake Watch continues: found out that Reese, Jake, and Reese's two kids were also spotted at Boudin at the Wharf last weekend. They had lunch on the outdoor patio in front of the outdoor fireplace, each eating the classic Boudin sourdough bread bowl. Both celebs were low-key in baseball caps and sunglasses. They reportedly signed autographs and were extremely cordial with staff and onlookers.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WONDERBOY!!!
May you live long and prosper ;), may we see you healthy and wrinkling in 40 years time, getting your third oscar, proudly presenting your family, cheering at your friends, appreciating and sharing the love you receive and the luck you shall always have.

And just because there are no real news this horoscope tells us to watch out for Jake, as there seems to be something in store for him:

Happy Birthday Jake!!
Hi Sarah,
Dreadful etiquette be damned. I love your approach to this fantastic news.

And I got my wish; to see a pic of Jake on his birthday. That finger xxxing works. I'm sending up a prayer of thanks.

What a sweet and beautiful pic of Jake, Reese and the kids...it's making my insides mushy.

And I agree about Table Hopper, we need some restaurant sightings in NM ASAP :)

Happy Birthday Jake, if I wasn't completely bunged up with a cold I'd offer you a cybersnog, but I'd hate to be the one to give you Gyllengerms, so I'll just blow you a kiss from this side of the Atlantic.

That photo of him with Reese, Deacon and a just about visible Ava is precious.

BTW, thanks for the pick up post previously, just what I needed on a morning when I feel like this.

What a lovely post to wake up to!!!! Thanks for the videos, UV!!! And FL!!! He is such a sweetheart...and SO cuddly!! That picture of him with Reese, Deacon, and presumably Ava, was really just a perfect way to start the celebration! While I was warmed by the pictures, I'm glad they seemed to enjoy their day relatively unmolested. They look very "right" together don't they!

God, that boy is sweet!
Nice pic on IHJ, don´t know how they do it, really. They must have super secret sources, so perfect.
Jake with his trade-mark water bottle, occupied with carrying child-stuff, head slightly tilted to talk to the hidden Ava while Reese watches with deep satisfaction.
You are right, Bobbyanna, it looks like they are used to spending time together, they are casual, feeling comfy and being happy. Good vibes, actually!

What a wonderful way to start Jake's birthday! This is another great post..... thanks!

I got a kick out of the blogger's account of hanging out at the movie theater filming. Wonder how many days Jake was on set? (Jake's presence is another reason I don't buy into the Reese and Vince bad behavior story.)

And after my bitching and moaning last night about no new photos...... wow, what a wonderful answer to my plea! Jake carrying Ava's coat melts my heart, and the lovely expression on Reese's face tells its own story. They all really do seem so comfortable and familiar and happy together. So nice to see!

And of course a very happy birthday to Jake today!

And of course...Happy birthday to the amazing Jake!!!
I hope he has a fun day today

Ack - I wish I had checked IHJ before I went to sleep last night/this AM! Thanks, anon, for bringing the Reese/Jake/kids pic over. It was a great start to the day. I knew today would be full of happy surprises!

Thanks for the links, smile. I wonder what is in store for Jake? :) I agree with you and Bobbyanna - there's a great, casual, comfortable vibe there.

Thanks for joining in the love for the birthday boy, everyone (annie, chica, get real, suvee, agent k, sass, smile, gr77, bobbyanna, anon!). Sorry if I missed anyone.

And Agent K - I hope you feel better. I'm still a little germy myself, but I don't know if I could resist a Gyllenhug!

I loved the blogger's story, too. Even without the Reese and Jake details (though I did enjoy those, especially the kiss). But what a great way to change an annoyance (theater closed) to an opportunity (hang out on a movie set, free food, celeb sighting, possible contacts!).

Also, as others have said, Jake carrying Reese's jacket is too adorable for words.

Okay, I'll stop babbling now. Just wanted to catch up!

Hi Sheba! It was a great surprise, wasn't it?

And sorry, in my comment above, I meant Jake carrying Ava's jacket.

Nice to see a new pic - there's been a real drought for the past few weeks. I hope it wasn't too intrusive for them all. Hope he's having a great birthday.

Hi narcissa. It was nice of Jake to give us this present on his birthday! Okay, it was really from an anonymous photographer and Stephanie/IHJ, but we'll give Jake the credit!
