A couple of pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal out for a stroll with his dog Atticus on Saturday, March 20, in Montreal.

Due to the delicate nature of Atticus's activities, we've left him out of the post :)

I'm sure many of you remember this photo of Jake from the LA Times:

I found a bigger and smilier version of it. Figured we could all use a lift after this weekend!

OMG. I have always loved this picture of Jake! It's so...James Dean, or something. And the smiling/laughing one is gorgeous. Both are very sexy.

Thank you for giving Atti his privacy.

Glad to see Jake with Atticus.
They are wonderful together. A perfect match.

You found one of the most beautiful pictures of Jake. I love his smile.
His smile lights up everything!

thanks, UV!

Hey, Mary - did you go to Disneyland? I can't remember if you mentioned any PoP paraphernalia :)

I've always loved that picture, too, Bobbyanna. I was very happy to find the smiley one. Wish I could find it in slightly bigger version, but it'll do for now :)

Poor Atticus!

Hi Monica - you're welcome. I love it, too.

I'm happy Atticus is in Montreal. I love seeing pics of him with Jake. Well, when he's not squatting!

What a beautiful picture of Jake laughing!

He can just embody joyfulness sometimes. Thanks for posting it.

Glad you had fun, Mary. Maybe next time :)

I love Jake's joyfulness, too, LG. At least as much as a joyless person like me can ;)

UltraViolet said...

Hi get real. I can't believe the bill finally passed!

Just found this, the longest reaction to PoP from ShoWest:

PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME ★ ★ 1/2

Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time is a grand, sexy epic missing a soul. There are beautifully choreographed scenes and more than a few fun moments, but the characters are tragically one-note and the story collapses under the weight of its own convolution. The obvious goal by Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer is to recreate the box office magic of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. I’m not convinced it’s going to work. The first Pirates was a good movie, and this is just an ok one. But then again, people came in droves to see Pirates three and four, which were terrible. To sum it up, Prince of Persia is not as bad as the Pirates sequals, but it is not as good as the first one.

Grand and sexy are good. No soul, not so much.

Poor Atticus - no privacy for you! *lol* Good to see that Jake has Atti with him for the shootings.

Love that LA Times picture - looks so sexy.

I am a bit surprised that we don´t get more response from the ShoWest screening. Latinoreview for ex. has some reports and interviews posted but absolutely nothing on PoP so far. Perhaps they are not allowed to talk about it?

Chica said...

One of my favorite pics of Jake, thanks for finding the smiling one UV, he looks so sexy!

Poor Atticus! Glad daddy took him to Montreal.

Thanks for the review UV. Great to look at but no soul. I don't think reviews like that will effect the BO. It is puzzling Carla that we haven't seen more reviews, Latinoreview gave a review of Toy Story 3 and other flicks but not POP.

Anonymous said...

I can rem. some movies critics said had no real feeling or soul in it but yet people were crying in the theater. Tho, of course, POP doesn't seem to have the situation where people will be crying..but still..you know what i mean.
Also Jake is not one of those actors in each movie that critics will go - hey, we didn't know he could act this good. He is accepted as an excellent actor - there is no surprise that he gives a good performance and that he is able to fit to whatever type of movie it is. These movies aren't the type of Oscar performances but to make them believable - that's a good thing.
People will enjoy the movie and that will accomplish its goal.

Anonymous said...

Love the new pic of Jake laughing, and the other one has always been a fave. Poor Atti does need his privacy!

Hmmm ... a movie needs soul, but we'll see what we think when we see it. One person's one-note could be a symphony, you never know. ;)

I have mixed feelings about the Health Care Bill - on the one hand, I'm happy it passed because we do need healthcare reform; on the other hand, I worry about the robbing-Peter-to-pay-Paul funding of it. A half a trillion dollars taken from Medicare, which has funding difficulties itself. Congress needs to have the guts to raise taxes.

get real said...

Anon, the Health Care bill is far from perfect. I want single payer but it is a huge start and I think they are working things out in the reconciliation bill and going forward to make it better. I hope they can get a public option as a next step.

On topic, I am surprised we have not gotten more PoP ShoWest reviews too.

Anonymous said...

I agree - and a national sales tax to help pay for it, like other countries do.

UltraViolet said...

I keep forgetting to say that I saw an ad for the Brothers DVD on CNN last night. So they are doing some promotion for it.

Waiting for Latino Review to say something about PoP, too. El Guapo was so excited for it.

Carla said...

Someone asked a question on that "NerdSociety" blog (who posted a kind o review) and the guy answered:

"There are two references to traps in the film, I wish I could tell you more, but I have to wait till Disney gives me the all clear to review the film."

So it looks like an "review embargo" was demanded by Disney.

Office of nancy Pelosi said...

Damn paparazzi can't even leave an actor's dog alone, I love the expression on Jake's face!

There has been far too few moments when I am truly proud of my boss but today I'm truly proud of her.

Is the bill flawed? Yes it is but it is the first. Salon has summed it up perfectly:

Thank you for the article, OONP. Some of us have wanted this for years, and now we have it - but I am cautiously optimistic. :)

bobbyanna said...

OONP,I really enjoyed the article in salon.com. No way could I imagine being effective in a job like NP's. To manage all those competing interests and stay focussed, navigating minefields with poise, being Speaker of the House is no joke.

Plus the position is Constitutionally mandated and she's second in line for the Presidency. I get really impatient with the process, but I have confidence in her. Plus, she looks great for 70.:)

suvee said...

I'm so glad you refrained from posting the "indelicate" Atticus photos. Not because he was peeing, but because he is peeing like a girl dog! Thank you for preserving his dignity. :)

Seriously though, my first thought was to wonder if Atti has arthritis or hip problems..... neither is uncommon in German Shepherds. Maybe he's older than I thought?

Love the new Joyful Jake photo.... he has one of those smiles that just radiates pure, unadulterated delight.

OONP, you should be proud of your boss! Despite all the work yet to be done, we have to start reforming our health care somewhere. And this bill will change the lives of millions of our fellow Americans for the better. I understand that the devil is in the details, but I also understand what is morally right.

Whew, I'm done now!

Tweety said...

Damn, he looks so damn good! Thanks for posting these photos, would definately rather look at these than pay attention to the crap that went on over the weekend.

The review embargo by Disney would explain why there were so few reviews from Showest Carla, thanks for that info.

I clicked on the photos on IHJ of Atticus and wondered the same thing about him Suvee. I than he is older than a lot of us thought. I'm sure Papa Jake is taking good care of him.

Thanks for that link to that Salon article Nancy. Not a perfect bill but it's the start of insuring millions of Ameicans w/o insurance.

Prince of Persia Impressions:

IGN

Monica said...

No spoilers:

The action is big. The effects bigger. And the storyline just interesting enough to keep you watching. Gyllenhaal -- probably not anybody's first choice for the Prince of Persia; although, to be fair, he's a hard character to cast -- serves the role just fine. And Arterton has sex appeal to spare. This movie will surely be compared to Pirates of the Caribbean series and it shares much in common. Perhaps the only thing missing is the equivalent of Captain Jack Sparrow -- Johnny Depp's ludicrous, but unforgettable antihero. By comparison, Dastan and Tamina are straighter and side-players like Kingsley and Molina unremarkable. But the movie is well-produced and sparkling with polish from beginning to end, and we doubt any potential shortcomings will stop moviegoers from seeing it and doing their part in adding another notch to Bruckheimer's already-considerable blockbuster belt.

Anonymous said...

^^Fingers crossed! :)

Anonymous said...

Nobody's first choice for The Prince? The Director and Jerry were very much wanting Jake to have the role.
Tho i can see why some of the Gamers and such may think of Jake as only Donnie Darko or "that guy in BBM"..which for some is something they would never see.
It'll probably be difficult for some but they will think he's fine in the role and they will survive it..ha.

bobbyanna said...

Jake worked too hard to be dismissed with such tepid reactions. I've seen rotten movies with rotten acting get hyped to pieces, and studio PR can puff up a mediocre performance until you might think it's the Second Coming. So they better do right by Jake. Or I'll hex 'em. LOL!

But I think it'll be just fine.

Anonymous said...

POP is supposed to be a fun summer blockbuster and that's what it's probably going to be. :)

Anon 8:44, I think he was referring to the fans. Jake was not the first choice for fans of the game.

I did mention the Gamers as being the ones who wouldn't be sure about Jake and I understand that.
Who did they want I wonder.
(wait a minute - a Persian actor?..ha.. I'd say..Name one!)
Did see someone on some site saying Orlando Bloom should of been the Prince because he's a great actor and Jake isn't a good actor.
..uh..wrong..

Did you hear what happened to Jake last Sat? He was in bar/restaurant and a thug asked him about Heath. I guess the conversation got heated and the guy was thrown out of the restaurant. Now the story is over the net.

Hope my post will not be deleted...

I felt very bad that now RW and her new boyfriend came out officially to celebrate her birthday. All articles related to this mentioned Jake (as the former bf) and how it is easy for her to move on. All I want to say is that for a woman afraid to make the final commitment, how quick it is to find a new bf. Thanks for the space.

Monica said...

Glad to see she moved away from Jake.

Why I changed my thinking in relation to her????? Not because the new boyfriend!

Thanks for the IGN link, Monica. Sounds very promising!

Jake's never going to escape the skepticism, apparently. But it sounds like he acquits himself well.

I didn't read the whole story because I didn't want to be too spoiled. But I was pleased to see that they also complimented the chemistry between Jake and Gemma.

Just looking over some stuff - someone saying she hopes Toth will treat Reese like the Princess she is. And a lot of the usual stuff and that he's been introduced to her kids.
Jake gave her a wonderful Birthday party. Hope she remembered that.
Its just all this they're holding hands..her new man..are they in love?
If he was just a pal kind of guy that would be o.k.
But there's a lot of this "Jake who?" He obviously cared and that's where the "sinking feeling" comes in when reading these things.

Monica said...

"Jake who?"

who is Jake?? Jake is a person who would never falsely cry in a event of AVON!
There were no tears in her eyes!

Do not read this in gossip blog.

Sorry UV, but I'm tired of seeing these things in relation to Jake.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (Movie Impressions)
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is all "popcorn flick," but I'm sure you suspected that long before I said anything. It won't be up for any "Best Picture" nominations, but I had a very good time watching it nonetheless.

UltraViolet said...

I agree that it's hard not to have a negative impression about Reese given what's happened. But let's not dwell on that or on the ridiculous events of the weekend.

Happily, there's lots of PoP news to distract us. I was just coming here to post that link, Monica. I consider these two descriptions of PoP very positive.

It's faithful to the game, the leads have chemistry and the main acting is good. I expect to be annoyed by the ancillary characters, so that's not a surprise.

You are finally going to get to see Brothers on the big scren Leonor! I love Jake in this role, one of his best. I hope you give us a review of it after you see it.

This one of my favorite photos of Jake as well. Great find UV on the smiley one, he has the best smile, sigh.

We are getting more reviews from Showest and they are mixed/positive. It's going to be released overseas first then here in the US so I hope all the GB peeps overseas give us their impressions!

I never thought Reese was the type that needed a man in her life all the time but I guess she is. First Jake when she wasn't officially divorced from Ryan (rebound) and now this guy after only a month or so after being with Jake for almost 3 years. He's probably rebound too.

I feel bad for Jake only because I think he was more serious about the relationship than she was.I won't even get into how bad I feel about her kids.

That blogger is unstable. He likes the attention he is getting, a lawsuit would bring him more attention. He should be ignored and hopefully he will slither back under his rock.

Yeah for the health reform bill passing!

But I'm happy, because the two longer summaries were mostly positive.

Verdeblusm, you're getting to see PoP eight days before us!

And Leonor, I'm so happy Brothers is finally opening. Hope you get to see it on the big screen.

Hello to both shebas and to Debbie, too.

OONP and everyone else who commented - I think we all want the blogger story just to go away. I hope people will let it just fade away.

I think we all want the blogger story just to go away. I hope people will let it just fade away.

Not this week anyway. It seems it's gotten renewed interest today with the various gay blogs/sites picking it up.

That guy's a nasty piece of work. He's now "published" a letter he claims is from Jake's lawyers. He loves the attention.

The gay sites seem to be siding with Jake on this since they seem to think this guy is a class-A homophobic douche.

The reason why the gay sites are picking it up is because Ted Casablanca wrote about it, also siding with Jake.

Those two pics of Jake in his leather jacket are drool-worthy!

I pre-ordered ny copy of Brothers from Amazon, I should be receiving it soon.

Thanks for the Pop reviews!

The "story" has made the rounds but from what I have seen so far, the guy is getting a big backlash. People are aware that he changed his story three times (or more, I did not waste my time reading his nonsense) and (sorry, but this made me laugh) some people are even complaining why Jake did not kick his ass into next week.....

I just pre-orderd my "Brothers" DVD (Import from Amazon UK) - it will be out on June 7th. PoP will be released here on May 20th, so I have the pleasure of watching two new films in 3 weeks....:-)

E! Gossip have updated their post with another statement from Jake's lawyers.

Update: Just in case our item wasn't clear enough, here are some more choice words from Gyllenhaal's rep about that alleged bar incident:

"Our client is taking such strong and immediate action because of the seriousness of the issue behind the allegation. He would never harm a woman, or touch a woman in anger. Such behavior is not only criminal, but personally abhorrent to him."

Anonymous said...

It looks like Jake is suing.

bobbyanna said...

I'm glad Jake's lawyers moved fast on this, & I'm sure he's truly pissed, but at this point, the continued reportage of "new developments" is just keeping the story alive. And it's such a non-story!

I hate reading nonsense on twitter, about a "bar brawl", etc. There was no brawl. It's a pretty simple non- story. Jake was harrassed by another customer, complained to the management, and they threw the guy out. That's it. Done.

It probably happens often to celebs in clubs. But thanks to the internet, the jerk tweeted all the gossip sites to make sure his bid for attention succeeded.

As far as I'm concerned it's over. The guy is slime and I wish him a boatload of really bad luck. Don't care if I never hear another word about it.

bobbyanna said...

^I know I "over-simplified," and the things that sicko said about Heath, and to Jake were truly reprehensible. But his strategy was to be deliberately provocative.
He's clearly unbalanced.Jake was wise and smart, and I'm sending him (((hugs))). But I still feel basically the same about the whole thing.

If we could all send him hugs the poor guy would be smothered to death. We feel for you, Jake. It's not fair that this has happened to him.

Cute story about a coffee shop used for filming LaOD:

With its rich chocolate walls, eclectic vintage furniture, sun-dappled window seats and prime corner spot in the North Side's Mexican War Streets--where young families take weekend walks and students contemplate art over iced Americanos--Buena Vista Coffee feels like a silver screen version of a neighborhood cafe.
Squint your eyes and Anne Hathaway is pulling espresso shots in the corner. Wait for the release of Love and Other Drugs, and you won't have to squint.

The Edward Zwick production, also starring Jake Gyllenhaal, filmed all over Pittsburgh last year, including at Buena Vista Coffee (Hathaway's character works at the coffee shop, and a steamy love scene was shot just around the block). Buena Vista's owners liked the space's Hollywood set decoration makeover so much that they kept much of it intact.

Had anyone seen this - like the last part of it..

For the past few months, Hollywood's been buzzing about Reese Witherspoon dating Creative Artists Agency (CAA) agent Jim Toth, a handsome man around town who was once engaged to a model. Toth doesn't personally represent Witherspoon, but she is represented by his power agency. (He reps top-tier talent like Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson and Tobey Maguire.) Lately, Witherspoon and Toth have been spotted dining at romantic Italian restaurants in LA, including Pace and Locanda Verde. There's no question about who's the star in this relationship -- unlike her last one, with a certain leading man named Jake Gyllenhaal.

(not sure if this went through..so forgive if its a double post)

And where's Bobbyanna? 2 Exciting Cannes Rumours:

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time
The Rumour: With the videogame adap due to hit cinemas later in the month, we wouldn't be surprised to see Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time popping up out of competition at Cannes. Gyllenhaal and Arteton should brighten up the red carpet no end.

Effect On France: Scimitar-waving parkour runners scamper up and down the buildings on the seafront, while porn filmmakers desperately try to work out punning rip-off names. “Prince Of Pork Her? Nah, too obvious...”

They list 19 other movies that might be there, as well, so it's nothing reliable. But it's fun to think about.

(waves to UV) See! Cannes. I had a feeling! Maybe it'll happen. I was planning to drop a "few" pounds so I could get my haute couture in time for Cannes...but alas... I console myself imagining they'll likely hide Jake at the Eden Roc outside Cannes, for all of two days,he'll do press, then walk a red carpet, smile, wave, etc... and disappear! The intimacy of Toronto for "Rendition" spoiled me...(cough!) At least the rope line was close enough to lean over and tap his elbow... if a person were so inclined :)

Thanks UV and FL for making this place a great refuge for Jake fans, especially when crap like that is floating around.

Jake has such a gorgeous smile as we can see from the stunning photo you posted from the LA Times photoshoot.

La, la, la, la, la. Did you post something about Toronto, Bobbyanna? I couldn't quite make it out through the green haze on my screen.

You're right, monica, but I think they'd not open it for any consideration of a prize. Years ago, I remember, there was this huge splashy blitz for Terminator III at Cannes, and they've done others since. It's strictly for marketing. Since Canne attracts a worldwide audience and PoP opens in Europe in May, the timing for a worldwide audience would be right.

Hi Monica. I don't know enough about Cannes to know how they react to these blockbusters. I'm sure the cognoscenti would turn their noses down at PoP, but I don't think Bruckheimer would really care!

Ditto-ing Bobbyanna - PoP wouldn't be competing. It would be just one of those special gala presentations.

Da Vinci Code opened the Festival in 2005 and was booed. Not everyone booed.

I see your point, monica. Even tho it wouldn't be in competition, I'd feel awful if Jake's movie got booed! And the media is merciless sometimes.

I think booing films has become a bit of a tradition at Cannes I'm afraid. Every year there is at least one movie that gets savaged by the critics there and earns open hostility. I think many critics go to Cannes now with the idea that they should boo at least ONE film. LOL.

Although, in my opinion, I think The DaVinci Code got booed specifically for the same reason that Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette" got booed, because there was a French component to the film and the french critics didn't like it and were vocal about their displeasure.

Still, I'd love it if Prince of Persia went to Cannes. I think I read, and correct me if i'm wrong, that the London premiere for POP is on May 9th. So i'm assuming that week (May 7th to 14th) will be the week that they premiere the film across Europe. The next weekend will be the kick off of the Cannes Film Fest, so the dates certainly correspond.

I hope they make this happen.

Another LAOD review from IMDB

The Op's concerns are valid but don't detract from the overall experience of the film. It was definitely too long and paced awkwardly, but some is bound to be cut before release. Anne is great and so is Jake, very good really but not Oscar worthy. Its a different style of filmaking a little bit and sticks in your head. There were many stand out moments in the film and lots of laugh out loud moments. But yes it is crammed full of information and subplots and layers but I found them all to be entertaining and believable.

Thanks, anon - one step ahead of you :)

I thought we needed to leave this post behind, so I made a new one, with the LaOD reviews that have come in.
