Happy New Year!

I hacked into another (totally public) Facebook account and found this great new photo of Jake, posted by photographer Richard D. Cole. Don't know where it's from or why it was taken, but there it is.

I didn't manage a year-end retrospective, but I think the whole Bear Grylls Iceland adventure was my favorite Jake story of the year. This was definitely my favorite post. But the whole ride was a blast, from the first news of it until the hilarious, excited tweets that erupted when the special aired.

It was wonderful to watch Jake's progress through nervousness, excitement, apprehension and fear to sheer joy. His sense of adventure and zeal for life were inspiring. And as you remember, it was the GIFt that kept on giving:

Monica reminded me of the Railroad Revival Tour, another unexpected treat for JAke fans and for Jake himself:

Please feel free to share your favorite Jake moment(s) from 2011.

Finally, I hope everyone has a celebratory night and a happy, healthy new year. Thank you to all for another fun Gyllenyear.

I'm going to steal from Paula C's post, which says it all:

Happy new days
Happy new dreams
Happy New Year!

A year of good food:

Good friends:

Maybe a new pet?

Another trip to the Oscars:

Perhaps another musical road trip:

More pickup basketball games:

But really, we just wish for days of fun, adventure, peace and happiness. So let's raise a glass and toast Jake's 31 years:

WWE+JG

Update: Jake snapped with Edible Schoolyard founder Alice Waters and some of the kids in the program:

Jake Gyllenhaal was one of several stars on a WWE special Tribute To The Troops". Jake taped a holiday message of thanks and good wishes. Messages from Nicole Kidman, Robin Williams, Bradley Cooper and McBongo, among others, were shown.

This autograph hunter seemed to catch Jake and some WWE types and other celebs on November 26, near the Millennium Broadway Hotel in NYC.

Hot and cold

NYC pap pics of Jake Gyllenhaal have been rare this fall, but he was snapped yesterday. Looks like Jake dressed for winter then de-layered.

Some new old photos found around the inter webs. I've never seen this one from the Jake/Paul Bettany photoshoot. Do we know why they were even in a photoshoot to begin with? I assume it was when Kirsten Dunst and Paul shooting.

I just like this composition:

U3

IHJ posted some photos of Jake Gyllenhaal at a restaurant with Bono and The Edge last year. The expressions are priceless.

Edge: "Who is this guy?"

Jake: "I don't know if I believe that..."

"Really, Bono? Really?"

"Okay, tell me more."

"Don't make me spit out my wine!"

"I love you."

"Next!"

You can Jake and Anne's arrival and some snippets from their press conference:

And here's an old interview with Jake and Anne from Today Australia. The first part seems familiar, but the "movie star" stuff seems new. But who can remember all of them at this point!

You can watch more of their arrival and a good chunk of the press conference here.

Further down memory lane, here's Jake on Conan, talking about Bono singing "Send in the Clowns:"

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope all the American GBers have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm grateful for the regular posters, occasional commenters and even the lurkers here. And, of course, for this guy:

Enjoy the day, your family and friends, wherever you are!

Video vault

Found this video of Jake Gyllenhaal at the Prince of Persia premiere. This guy's shtick seems to be interviewing people in corridors! But it's always fun to remember the PoP promotion:

Mesmerized by his cardboard alter ego:

Love the look he's giving:

And here's an E! video of the PoP LA premiere:

A brief clip of Jake at the New Eyes for the Needy event held in March:

New Eyes has that great picture of Jake lifting his glasses on their main page now. Smart people!

Band camp

Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted at Watch the Throne last night. No reports of him joining Jay Z and Kanye on stage. Apparently, they didn't need an extra accordion player. Or trombonist.

Here's Jake, back in the spring, taking a much needed break from the rigors of the Railroad Revival Tour:

Here's a brief cameo of Jake on the train - at about seven seconds:

And a photo I hadn't seen before:

Polarized

I discovered this behind the scenes shot of Jake from his photoshoot for the May, 2001, edition of Vanity Fair:

There was no other information - no anecdotes - but I decided to roll with the Polaroid theme. A couple of Jake Polaroids from the 2005 Toronto Film Festival:

Finally, the Polaroid shots from Love & Other Drugs. I wish they had included these in the DVDs, either as cards of some sort or on the cover art/DVD art. And I wish we got to see more of them. You know they shot dozens.

The Sexiest Farmer Alive

Who needs People Magazine?

Jake Gyllenhaal has been dubbed the "Sexiest Farmer Alive" by the people at Fashion Week Daily.

We know you're probably here because we're a fashion blog, but today we've got an EXCLUSIVE! Actor/Hottie/Farmer Jake Gyllenhaal chats...vegetables! Take that, Entertainment Weekly! Eat your heart out, Bon Appétit! Last night, designer Lela Rose hosted a swanky $1000-a-seat dinner party at her gorge Tribeca mecca to support Edible Schoolyard, which encourages kids to eat healthier and change their food habits. The most perfect man alive (the aforementioned JG) was a special guest, and we grabbed him for a quick chat pre-dinner to discuss veggies, farmers and besties.

It's a pleasure meeting you. You're one of our favorite actors in the world.

That's very nice of you!

[Chic sighs....catches breath] Tell us about your involvement with the Edible Schoolyard.

I've been involved with them for a couple of years. I'm titled by Alice Waters, the ambassador of the school yard. I got involved because the dinner table was always a place, since I was a young child, where we got to get together, and I actually got to know my family there more than any other place in the world. I grew up growing my own food in our family garden. One of my best friends is a farmer. It's been a primary focus of my life.

We love food!

I didn't realize that I grew up in the slow food movement. I see children who didn't know any of these things—that they can grow their own food and learn about vegetables when they are at a primary level. It was everything to me, so I wanted to be involved. Since knowing about this organization, I've done everything I can.

What's your favorite vegetable?

I'd say right now, after an extensive search over the years and living the wonderful life that I've had so far, and after tasting many, many vegetables...cavolo nero. It's like a really soft kale. You can eat it any form: cooked, raw...

We trust anything you say. Let's backtrack...How do you know a farmer?

I was raised in Los Angeles, but I spent my summers, since I was born, in Martha's Vineyard. My best friend, since we were little kids, lives there, and he's a farmer. His whole family farms. I know it might seem odd, but it's what I love more than anything. Being in gardens have been some of the most wonderful times of my life. Washing lettuce and watching things grow...you feel connected to the world. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything that connects you to the universe in the same way that planting a seed does.

That's so sweet! And now you've got a beard like a real farmer.

Seeds of growth!

You can read more about the party here.
