The Sexiest Farmer Alive

Who needs People Magazine?

Jake Gyllenhaal has been dubbed the "Sexiest Farmer Alive" by the people at Fashion Week Daily.

We know you're probably here because we're a fashion blog, but today we've got an EXCLUSIVE! Actor/Hottie/Farmer Jake Gyllenhaal chats...vegetables! Take that, Entertainment Weekly! Eat your heart out, Bon Appétit! Last night, designer Lela Rose hosted a swanky $1000-a-seat dinner party at her gorge Tribeca mecca to support Edible Schoolyard, which encourages kids to eat healthier and change their food habits. The most perfect man alive (the aforementioned JG) was a special guest, and we grabbed him for a quick chat pre-dinner to discuss veggies, farmers and besties.

It's a pleasure meeting you. You're one of our favorite actors in the world.

That's very nice of you!

[Chic sighs....catches breath] Tell us about your involvement with the Edible Schoolyard.

I've been involved with them for a couple of years. I'm titled by Alice Waters, the ambassador of the school yard. I got involved because the dinner table was always a place, since I was a young child, where we got to get together, and I actually got to know my family there more than any other place in the world. I grew up growing my own food in our family garden. One of my best friends is a farmer. It's been a primary focus of my life.

We love food!

I didn't realize that I grew up in the slow food movement. I see children who didn't know any of these things—that they can grow their own food and learn about vegetables when they are at a primary level. It was everything to me, so I wanted to be involved. Since knowing about this organization, I've done everything I can.

What's your favorite vegetable?

I'd say right now, after an extensive search over the years and living the wonderful life that I've had so far, and after tasting many, many vegetables...cavolo nero. It's like a really soft kale. You can eat it any form: cooked, raw...

We trust anything you say. Let's backtrack...How do you know a farmer?

I was raised in Los Angeles, but I spent my summers, since I was born, in Martha's Vineyard. My best friend, since we were little kids, lives there, and he's a farmer. His whole family farms. I know it might seem odd, but it's what I love more than anything. Being in gardens have been some of the most wonderful times of my life. Washing lettuce and watching things grow...you feel connected to the world. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything that connects you to the universe in the same way that planting a seed does.

That's so sweet! And now you've got a beard like a real farmer.

Seeds of growth!

You can read more about the party here.

it turns out I was sitting next to Jake Gyllenhal at a restaurant in the West Village today & had no idea. [i only know chef celebrities :|

Also, did the Fashion Week Daily reporter really say "We love food?" I think Jake really flustered him/her.

bobbyanna said...

Yes, LOL! "We love food!"

(sigh.) Why couldn't he just say Kale. Now I'll have to go to one of "those" stores to find it and try it. : )

bobbyanna said...

Of course, thanks to your picture, when I find it I can say, "Oh, look, cavolo nero!" And seem smart. : )

I can't tell you how happy this article made me. I clicked Gyllenbabble on my favs list and immediately felt a huge smile starting on my face.
I'll probably go back and read this post at least 30573093 times. And all the pics of Jake with everyone smiling, happy and blown away being near him are wonderful.
Jake, whatever is keeping you in NYC, I love it! Never ever leave!
TY again UV!!

The women were completely wonderful.

Sisters of the world Unite. Jake does indeed boggle the mind and we all love him for it.

Have a wonderful Friday and weekend everyone.

He does look like a farmer, LOL!!

I think the reporter was a bit flustered, and who can blame them. I love that he is so serious about the this wonderful program.

Yeah, Kale is a lot easier to find at the market Bobbyanna!

Souvlaki for the Soul, what a great name for that site! It must have been fascinating sitting around the Gyllenhaal family dinner table. I think food has shaped Jake's upbringing as a source of connection and comfort IMO.

I love seeing Jake out and about and especially at events like this but I sure wish he had another outfit.

Jake is watching Ramona because Mommy and Daddy are in Rome for the premiere of Hysteria according to the tweets.

I have my fingers crossed that SC will do well in Japan!

Paula C. said...

Someday Jake will be a great ( and hot) dad.
He must have tons of fun with Ramona.

Aw Uncle Jake is watching his niece. SO CUTE.

thanks for the photos from the dinner. I have to wonder if Jake has become a vegetarian? I have never had Kale, maybe I should try it sometime

I just don't like that Jake's pant. Well, it seems that everyone was having a good time.

I saw the pictures of Maggie on the red carpet in Rome. Nice dress!

Happy birthday, Matilda Ledger!

Glad to see Uncle Jake spending some quality time with Ramona wonder if this is the first time hes watched her for this long.

Yea Jake definitely needs to change his clithes i wonder if hes just has a few set of clothes with him in NYC or he just likes likes to wear the same ones he seems to do that with clothes.

Happy birhtday Matilda

Office of Nancy Pelosi said...

Cavolo nero, I will have to remember that. If it's anything like kale then I think I would like it!

Another request for Jake to change up his NY outfit of choice, please!!

I would love for a twicpic of Jake and Ramona to pop up!

Happy Birthday Matilda!

This woman saw Jake on the train today and snapped a pic, which I added to the post:

OMGOMGOMG I cannot get over how exciting it was to see my hubby today…. I couldn’t believe my eyes. He was lookin so fine reading that script on the train right in front of me :””)

Paula C. said...

Now, that's what I call a fine tweet, funny and with valuable information and a pic to prove.
First info, he´s definitely reading a script, yeahh.
Second info,he looks so good with the white t-shirt.
Third info, he only packed two pants to NY, the khaki and the cargo and I don't like both.

OT,I just saw The adventures of Tintin in 3D with my son and loved it, what a wonderful movie, brought me back to my childhood.

bobbyanna said...

Yessss! A bona fide picture! And he's reading a script!

Paula C. I understand. But I do think Jake has more than one pair of the khakis. He might even have a pair of jeans with him...Maybe.

It's cold, but brilliantly sunny here.I read that some parts of Conn. Vermont, NY, MA, are getting a dusting of snow! That is SO wrong!

Chica said...

Yay, he's reading a script! I was trying to figure out what train he was riding it's probably the Q or N . LOL at the guy sleeping next to him!

I have heard so much about the Adventures of tintin Paula C, I can't wait until it opens here.

They are expecting some snow later on here in NY Bobbyanna, isn't that nuts!!

Congratulations to the Cardinals!

Mary said...

Yea we havent seen Jake in jeans in ages hope he still owns apair:)

Nice pic of Jake good to see him reading a script.

Chica said...

Ack, it's snowing! I don't think we will be seeing to many tweets of Jake wandering around Brooklyn today.

Also the subways in the weekends are a bitch, with many not running or running on other lines due to track work.

bobbyanna said...

Good Lord, chica! I was thinking if NY got snow, it would be upstate! Never expected it in NYC.

Wonder if OONP or UV and others here are expecting snow?

Office of Nancy Pelosi said...

It's snowing here in CT, it's not sticking because it rained previously, blech.

And look, Jake did pack a pair of jeans!! I'm thinking that he has been hanging with America Ferrera and her husband, he is an up and coming Director.

Seeing Jake reading that script on the train, mabye they are working on something??

Anonymous said...

I wish the person was able to see the title on the script. It has been raining/sleeting here in Virginia. blah! I hate the winter.

I wonder if Ramona went bowling with uncle Jake (he should go to spin and play table tennis)

Lily

Paula C. said...

Lily, that would be a great pic, Jake and Ramona bowling:)

I only saw snow falling once in my life and was just a few snowflakes.

Extra said...

This weather is crazy, it's snowing like crazy here in NJ, what a mess.

Jake looks so relaxed and I love hearing about his involvement with the Edible Schoolyards and his love of food, farming and cooking.

Jake seems right at home in Brooklyn/Manhattan, wouldn't be surprised if he decides to move ti NY.

A new script, fingers crossed!

sass said...

Snow and rain mixed here now. Love to see this weather go away...weather channel says no more tomorrow. Snow blowing all over this morning...what a surprise. Love that Jake is still here and taking care of his niece. Happy Birthday Matilda Rose! I get teary when I think of her...but not for long cause I know no one close to her would appreciate that...anyway the tears are cause I miss Heath as usual.
love you all...reports are we had 1.5" + of snow in Central Park.

Nipping in quickly to say it looks like L&OD is on HBO tonight.

Just a little wet snow here but I think we're going to get more. Boo!

I think of Brooklyn Bowl as more of a bar/bowling alley, not a place Jake would take Ramona to hang out.

Third info, he only packed two pants to NY, the khaki and the cargo and I don't like both.

LOL, Paula C! I often wish Jake would dress up a bit more. I like his style mostly, but I think he could do with a bit of variety and a bit more elegance. Then I remember that he doesn't care what I think :)

Hope the script is for something good and something soon!

Sass, hopefully this snow will all be just a memory by Monday! Stay dry, everyone.

Loving all the Jake in NY news, I see he was with Sophie again. I don't the nature of their relationship but they sure look cut together:) :)

I was going to post that LAOD is on HBO, Jake and Anne are so good in this, too bad they didn't have the script to work with.

Caught BBM on Ovation Sass and it still packs an emotional wallop, even though they showed the edited version.

Hope everyone survived the surprise winter storm!

bobbyanna said...

I'm enjoying all the tweets about LAOD! Jake is making quite an imporession on people who are just seeing it! : )

The tweets are so much fun, Bobbyanna. Love people's reactions to Jake movies. Wish more of them would see them in the theater!

Jake out of the CZ and in Queens tonight?

just spent the eve on a barstool next to who I'm pretty sure is jake gyllenhaal. Very chill.

yep, NYC! The bar is in Queens--what's he doing in this nabe, I wonder

Also, this tweet made me laugh:

I'm in the exact opposite situation to Jake Gyllenhaal in Source Code because I really want everyone on this train to die.

Sheba Baby, ITA with you :)

Since I'm awake, I might try to catch the L&OD showing on HBO. Missed it earlier to watch the U2 documentary.

We finally have snow cover here, damn it.

Chica said...

He was in Queens!!! Of course it's probably not the part of Queens where I live but still.

It stopped snowing here and the sun is shining but it's messy out. I'm glad that I didn't lose power like so many have:(

Anonymous said...

There was more sleet and rain here than snow, but west of me got a lot of it (Virginia)

I think Jake knows his way around the 5 boroughs (I wonder if he's been to Staten Island or the Bronx?) like the back of his hand by now. It won't surprise me if he decides to either move there or at least have a 2nd place to hang out instead of with his sister.

I assume there is someone else to watch Ramona while Jake went to the bowling alley (I still wish he could take her bowling, that would be a cute pic)

I wonder if he would want to live through NY winters (where you can be literally buried in snow) as opposed to being able to go out in the middle of Jan wearing a t shirt or a light jacket and the only snow you'd see is in a snow globe (or in the mountains)

bobbyanna said...

Strictly a wild guess, but maybe Jake was at a bar called Dutch Kills not far from the 59th Street Bridge. Or not. Guy who owns it also owns Milk & Honey in Lower Manhattan.

We have brilliant sunshine here. For now. I may be forced to go for a walk. : ) but it's 33 degrees.

Mary said...

Yea UV you are probably right that it will be Ryan G but we all know who the sexiest man alive is:)

Chica said...

Dutch Kills in in Long Island City and I have been to that place! It's a good guess because it's not far from that food event Jake attended last year. Plus it nit far from Manhattan.

Monica said...

I know it's going to be a stake through my heart: Ryan Gosling.

He is sexy, but he's not the sexiest of the moment!

bobbyanna said...

Chica, Dutch Kills isn'tt far from the Five Pointz Grafitti building, too. It's less than a half mile up the street.

I've given up on the People Magazine Sexiest Man thing. I like Ryan Gosling well enough, but he really doesn't "do" anything for me.

If People Magazine wants to gain any credibility, they need to pick Jake as #1, and then end the series, because there is no one else like Jake. : )

Anonymous said...

People always picks someone who is "everywhere" at the time. They are making some sort of headlines or they are in a number of movies and are getting good reviews, which would be Ryan.
George and Brad have movies, etc. and always in the news, but they have already been, so they aren't going to pick them again.
They pick who they think is the "most popular" at the moment.

Paula C. said...

Like Anon said the choice is based on who is most popular at the moment.

There is no one sexier than Jake, but for me Gosling or Daniel Craig are going to land the cover.

Anonymous said...

As much as I like Jake's style, I do wish that he would dress a bit for an event like this. He is the Ambassador for the Edible Schoolyard project.

That said he does still drool worthy and i'm getting a kick keeping up with his NY advnentures!!

I have given up with People and the sexiest man alive campaign. We all know it's not about looks but how "hot" you are at the moment.

I would be surprised if Gosling wasn't their choice.

I love checking out the tweets about LAOD, it's always fun reading peoples reaction when they view one of his films for the first time.

I can't wait to first out the BO for the opening pf SC in Japan, I have a feeling that it will be a hit over there.

Philly got hit bad by the freak snow storm but not as bad as NJ, MA and CT, keep safe everyone.

UltraViolet said...

My ghoulish work schedule continues - hope everyone has a fun Halloween.

I also hope that the mass retweeting of any/all Jake articles stops. It's making twitter useless!

Also, the news that the Coen Brothers want to cast Justin Timberlake in their new movie made my heart sink this morning.

Oh, and anon from yesterday - I realize how People chosses their SMA. That's why I'm afraid it will be Gosling. And it probably should be. He's the Man of the Moment.

The only thing going against him is that neither Drive nor IDes of March has broken out at the box office.

I say this every year and will say it again when People fails to choose Jake again: They missed the moment when they didn't choose Jake in 2005.

Well it sure has been a horror here in CT, that snow storm caused more damage than hurricane Irene. Some parts of the state has the power back on but overall it was a disaster.

My power was off for a bit but it's back n for now.

It's too messy and dangerous for kids to go out trick or treating so it will be pretty quiet tonight here.

This is a good time to watch Donnie Darko:)

Happy Halloween!

Jake's had a tough time these last three years; taking time off for himself and hanging out here with his family, where he's loved, makes good sense to me. If only I could run into him, just once. *sass's fingers crossed*
