Outtake Jake

We wanted to make a new post but were unsure what to post about. Inspiration came, as usual, from Jake Gyllenhaal - via the inimitable Stephanie, who posted these Interview Magazine outtake pictures tonight.

These wonderful pictures of outdoorsman Jake were taken at the Golden Oak Ranch in Santa Clarita, California:

We encourage you all to keep commenting with news, thoughts and feelings about Heath. Heath, his family and friends, including Jake, are never far from our minds.

Beautiful, thank you.

Sometimes I think beauty is the only consolation in this bad old world ( still very sad today, and on some level always will be).

{{{Barbara}}} Beauty is some consolation, and think of all the beauty Jake and Heath brought us.

Today was a very sad day. I am going to try to go to sleep tonight without crying my way there.

Hi Sarah,

I'm glad you're up;)
I have the biggest lump in my throat, I'm nauseous and can't sleep. Tonight for some reason I feel worse...It feels like Heath is really gone.
Thanks for new Jake outtakes. He's all we have left now.
I miss Heath more than I can ever say...and his daughter. I'm sorry...it's too much pain to casually pass over some random unexpected postings, but I'm learning not to linger; my heart can't take it or believe it.
My rearing didn't prepare me for the Internet in all its glory.
love and hugs and more hugs.

Lovely photos, so beautful - thank you.

Attempted to watch BBM last night, can't do it yet, only got as far as Ennis getting out of the lorry and looking so lonely, I had to turn it off.

On another topic, I'd long been hoping we'd get Reese (and maybe Jake) over here for the Penelope premier, but there doesn't seem to be one, and it's released on 1st Feb, so no luck there, although I will be attempting to go and see it this weekend. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for the BAFTAs in a few days.

Nice to know Jim Sheridan's been understanding and decent about the shooting schedule, although I don't think there can be much left to shoot, so sad though, especiallly Jake goofing around with the photo of Heath early on in the shoot :(

Thanks for this post and the beautiful pictures of Jake, I think we really needed these pictures now.

Please to hear that Sheridan is giving space to Jake for grieving.

Loving these pics of Jake. And wow so sad about him on the Brothers set. :(

What a beautiful sight to wake up too, thanks so much.

I'm glad to hear that he is getting support from Sheridan and the crew.

Evening everyone,
Linking People magazine article here for ya... and missing Heath. Jake putting Heath's picture on his cell wall...made me weep for his loss...

The article written by Eric Patterson and posted on Theresa's site is beautifully written....TY again Sarah and Felicia for mentioning it here.

Jake Is Taking Heath's Death 'Harder Than Most

UltraViolet said...

Checking in to say thanks to everyone for linking to the People article. I hope this bit of information satisfies the vultures who need Jake to prove tot hem that he's grieving.

Poor Jake!

I wonder how much more filming he has to do for Brothers.

And {{{Sass}}} I wish I'd seen your posts before going to bed. I know exactly how you felt last night, for I had felt that way the night before.

As I was going to be last night, I flicked the TV on and HBO was showing BBM. It was 1:36, it had just started, and I stayed up to watch the whole thing.

So many moments took on added poignancy, but I was surprised at how much I was able to let go and just absorb Heath as Ennis.

I mentioned this to FL a few days ago. We always say how hard it is to imagine anyone other then Jake as Jack and Heath as Ennis. It's also impossible to imagine either of them acting with someone else. They really had that perfect, magical spark onscreen that made them believable and unforgettable.

UltraViolet said...

I forgot to thank get real in the last post for the link to the Brooklynite's view of Heath. I'll try to find it and link it again. It was really lovely. And such a nice contrast to the swirl of garbage that is being unleashed about Heath now.

I'm sitting here thinking about the People magazine article, and I can't help but remember the morning I was happily posting on Planet Heath; I think it was Planet Heath back then. There was one poster, on that thread, who was always asking, why we never saw Jake and Heath together.

Sure enough, they were together right at that moment.
Theresa called or was called by Heath; he was with Jake and Michelle and Matilda and others at the Farmer's Market in LA.
I laughed aloud at their cleverness. Heath told her that he and Jake saw each other and their respective families all the time, in spite of the clueless paps, because they just didn't know where to look outside celeb haunts.

I love and miss you so much Heath...
{{{{{{Jake}}}}}} My heart breaks for you and Heath's family.

I know what you mean Sarah about letting go and enjoying BBM...I haven't watched BBM yet, but I may watch 10 things later today.

I was surprised at how much I was a able to let go and enjoy Heath as the Joker in TDK trailer...My son was with me last night...I had to see Michael Clayton again...Thank God for senior rates;)
My son said "mom that's a bad ass trailer."
YOU GO Heath!!

"Heath Ledger Drug Video Discovered

One week after Heath Ledger was found dead in his NYC apartment, a new videotape has emerged, allegedly showing the actor doing drugs at a hollywood party.

Perez Hilton is reporting that the tape — set to be released exclusively by Entertainment Tonight and The Insider — was shot at L.A.'s Chateau Marmont back in Jan. 2006.

According to a source who has supposedly seen the tape, the tables surrounding Heath at the party are filled with drugs and he can reportedly be heard saying, "I'm going to get so much s**t from my girlfriend." When he's asked 'Why?', he responds, "Because we have a baby together....Matilda, Matilda Rose."

Ledger also allegedly talks about his drug use on the tape. "I used to smoke five joints a day," he says.

Though sources have confirmed to OK! that Heath had issues with illegal substance abuse during his brief life, the medical examiner in New York has not yet released toxicology reports from tests done during the actor's autopsy."

I remember the sighting of Heath, Michelle and Jake with a short blonde lady wasn't it. Could it have been you know who?. Just wondering really.

Anonymous said...

JP: That sighting at the farmers market in '06 was the one in BH, Reese and Jake were spotted at the one in Brentwood and that was on a Thursday.

I always thought the blode was Busy Philips, Matilda'a Godmother.

Anonymous said...

How funny. I thought it was Abbie Cornish...she'd made a movie with Heath and was new to the states. It would be like Heath to try to be a matchmaker.

Anonymous said...

An honest question, and I know there is no way of answering this but feel free to speculate...

Do you think that Jake will become a father-figure in Matilda's life now that Heath is gone? Or do you think that whenever Michelle remarries, her significant other will take on that role?

I can see Matilda and Michelle remaining close friends with the Gyllenhaal's given that she lives near Maggie and Peter, and Ramona is nearly the same age.

I can see Jake "checking in" on her whenever he is in NYC. After all, traditionally the role of the godfather is to "step in" when the real father dies.

Shondra,

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Anonymous said...

There's no way to know what Jake's relationship with Michelle...or Matilda is. I think the closer relationship was between Heath and Jake.

BTW: the video tape they intend to air is supposed to have been shot end of January of 2006, probably around the time of awards season when there were all kinds of parties...and all kinds of people hanging around.
No one has said Heath was shown using drugs.

The "incriminating things" he said were reported as: "My girlfriend is gonna kill me..." and "I used to smoke five joints a day..."

I am not excusing anything. But I am not judging either. I just wanted to put it in context.

Michelle's rep has now issued a statement saying that the rumor of their drive to Rehab is a lie as are other despicable rumors and allegations about Heath.

I never thought of Heath as some kind of saint. But nothing can alter the fact Heath is gone. Forever. And like a lot of other people here, I've been inconsolable.

I didn't know it was possible to feel such a deep sense of emptiness for someone like that.
My heart is aching, tonight. Hope I'll be ready to watch some of his movies soon. But not yet. I'm glad I have some place to come and share.

FL said...

I usually find that if your godfather/mother isn't a blood relation, they tend not to be as close as.

Godparenting is largely ceremonial in any case. The original definition of a "godparent" is that person chosen by the child's parents to ensure their child's religious education is carried out should they die.

Most couples, while estate planning, will appoint guardians of their minor children in the event of their death. Sometimes it's a godparent, most times not.

That being said, I'm sure Jake will make the occasional visit, send the appropriate birthday/christmas present to Matilda.

Anonymous said...

Felicia, I agree with your assessment of the godparent role today. I am a godmother...... and yes, I was told that my primary responsibility was the religious upbringing of my godson (boy, did his parents pick the wrong person.... a very lapsed Episcopalian!) I am also named in one of my closest friend's will as the guardian of her minor children.... but I am not their godmother.

Michelle at some point will surely have a serious relationship with another man, a man who will become Matilda's significant father figure. I don't doubt for one second that Jake takes his responsibility to Matilda very seriously, and will be a presence in her life in some way. I'm sure he and Michelle will come to some agreement over time.

Does anyone else remember Heath speaking very warmly of the Gyllenhaal family..... would have been in 2006, during all the Brokeback frenzy? I always wondered if that was one of the reasons he wanted Jake to be Matilda's godfather...... admiring the close family experience that helped shape the remarkable person Jake is, and wanting that kind of family sensibility for Matilda if something happened to him. How could he have ever known.......

Anonymous said...

I suspect that whether Jake will be a presence in Little M's life probably depends on how good his relationship with Michelle is, and we don't know that.

And also on where Michelle lives, and on if/when she finds a new partner.

I'm sure, like the rest of us, Jake will look for Heath in Little M's face, and see him.

I find myself wishing that Michelle would quit acting and take Little M out to a small town where she can be rised in peace. A fantasy, I know.

It's hard , too, with Heath's family in another country, so far away. I hope Michelle will do the right thing and give Heath's family generous access, but as a general rule grandparents have no visiting rights at all. It all depends on the surviving parent.

Hope this speculation doesn't bother people, it's been on my mind.I just hope Michelle can put aside whatever her issues with Heath were and give Little M a positive image of her daddy. B.

'Entertainment Tonight' pulls Heath Ledger party video after PR firm applies pressure

UltraViolet said...

{{{Bobbyanna}}} I hope you're getting some good rest tonight.

Barbara, your speculation was fine. I think we all wonder if Jake will play a big or small role in Matilda's life. As someone said, maybe you, it depends on how close Jake and Michelle are or will be.

But close or far, I think Matilda will know she has a protector in Jake. And it is sweet to picture Jake someday telling her about Heath and their friendship.

And suvee, I do remember Heaths saying something about what a great family the Gyllenhaals are. I'll see if I can find it tomorrow.

UltraViolet said...

Sass, great news about the video. It cracks me up that ET is saying they pulled it out of "respect" for Heath's family. Do they really think anyone is going to buy that?

On a much lighter note, someone on ONTD posted pictures from Jake and Maggie's yearbook.

It's one of those rare ONTD Jake posts where you can even read the comments without screaming!

Night, all :)

Adoreable photos, Maggie hasn't changed at all and Jake, well hasn't so much changed as grown into his looks.

Very glad the video has been pulled, there was absolutely no need for it whatsoever, it would have only added to the grief of those who loved him.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, ET won't run the video but they ran the teaser last night. It didn't show Heath actually doing anything but it was still devastating.

MSNBC also showed it and took ET to task for airing it.

Unfortunately that video is floating around and it will be seen, I'm hope I'm wrong.

Anonymous said...

It's airing in Australia.

Anonymous said...

Great, just in time for his funeral.

What scum.

Anonymous said...

I watched the teaser several times and it doesn't show Heath doing anything at all.

He's dressed in black (2006 SAGS) sitting on a couch, with other people. (blurred out) He seems ill at ease. Also looked as if he might have been eating something. He was definitely drinking from a regular sized bottle of what looks like beer.

What I actually heard him say variously was, "I'm not even supposed to be here..." "I am going to get shit from my girlfriend..." or something similar, and when asked why, he says they have a baby, three months old, and he tells them her name in response to their questions. He later says "I used to smoke five joints a day..."

I got the impression he stopped in at some random afterparty in the same hotel he & Michelle were at and probably didn't stay long. He sure didn't look like he was comfortably there for the night. And he wasn't taking any drugs.

The grainy, black and white video was shot without his knowledge. My guess, since they blurred out other faces,is that other well known people were also there and the videographer was out to make money.

I'm speculating that the pressure from the PR firm did include a boycott, and also, bcz with Batman getting ready to come out, there are advertising dollars and promos ET will NOT be getting, if they do this.

ET also had no counter-argument. ET had nothing. If they had actual pictures like they have of Amy Winehouse or Anna Nicole Smith, or others, then it would be "news" but all they really had, was Heath at an afterparty.

Penn, Bale, Gyllenhaal for Ledger film?

Sean Penn, Jake Gyllenhaal and Christian Bale have said they want to help finish Heath Ledger's last film, The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus, say reports.

It was announced last week that Johnny Depp would take over from Ledger in the fantasy film, but now three other Hollywood stars have reportedly offered their services to director Terry Gilliam.

A source told The Sun: "Heath’s character falls into a magic mirror four times during the film. It allows Terry to change the actor easily if he wants to.

"Johnny, Jake, Sean and Christian were all friends of Heath’s and would love to be involved.

"The director and other big wigs on the film are mulling over the idea, but it’s likely to go ahead in what would be intended as a tribute to Ledger.

"One of the main sticking points isn’t so much this, it’s how upset Ledger’s co-stars Lily Cole and Christopher Plummer are.

"The rest of the film crew are also deeply upset. Heath was such a lovely guy. Everyone is finding it difficult to continue with the project."

"What You Didn't See

The Hollywood community is still very upset at Entertainment Tonight and The Insider.

we're told that many are still upset because ET and The Insider made it seem like Heath was doing drugs in the video.

He was not, a person who has seen the full clip tells us.

Additionally, when the shows aired a preview of the video, they showed a clip of Ledger saying, "I used to smoke five joints a day for 20 years."

However, what they didn't show you was that afterwards, he said , "and that's why I got this tattoo [an M, for daughter Matilda] to remind me never to smoke weed again."

Here is an excerpt from a more detailed report (from AOL news) about how the Heath video "ET" was planning to air got stopped. (sorry for the length)

"After seeing a promotion for the show Wednesday, a publicist at ID, Ledger's public relations firm, called "Entertainment Tonight" and asked that the segment be pulled. The request was refused.

ID then composed a three-paragraph protest letter that it distributed to some 30 other public relations firms around Hollywood, asking them to tell their clients about what was about to happen. The circle included powerhouse publicists like PMK-HBH, 42 West and BWR.

The letter said "ET" had paid a large sum of money for the video to stir up an exploitive story about Ledger.

"For the sake of his grieving family and friends, his child and common decency, we hope to pressure 'Entertainment Tonight' and 'The Insider' to do the right thing and pull the spot," the letter said. "This is not journalism, it is sensationalism. It is a shameful exploitation of the lowest kind, to a talented and gentle soul, undeserving of such treatment."

Stars, studio executives and PR firms all called "ET" to register protests, said Kelly Bush, CEO of ID. The star-studded roster of Bush's firm alone includes Robin Williams, Sean Penn, Tobey Maguire, Mike Myers, Jennifer Hudson, Katie Holmes, Ellen DeGeneres, and Ledger's "Brokeback" co-star Jake Gyllenhaal.

Bush said the response was unlike anything she'd ever seen.

"I hope it represents a turning point," she said. "I think we have all heard from members of the media and members of the public that it's too much. Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are the top news stories when Darfur should be."

No boycott was threatened, she said. But when a television show that needs celebrities like living things need oxygen hears from so many powerful sources, a threat probably wasn't necessary."

I can't help but wonder if Jake didn't play some part in this incredible fight to protect Heath's memory.

WOW----Hollywood Farmer's Market. Very crowded. Today around 10:30. JAKE, HEATH, MICHELLE, MATHILDA, AND A VERY PRETTY BLONDE I could kick myself because I didnt have a camera!! They looked like great friends. Very low key. Jake was in the usual...t-shirt, cargo shorts, flips flops (very sexy), and yes the Blinde sunglasses were back!. Heath was in full beard and long hair ( gettin' ready to play Dillon, I guess!)--had on shorts, a t-shirt, and Aussie boots. Michelle lookin' really sweet and summery--Mathilda is beautiful and looked very happy to be with mommy, daddy, and uncle Jakey!! Didnt recognize the blonde woman who was with them, but she seemed to be very much with Jake--they were kidding back and forth. At one point he handed her some money and said " This doesn't grow on trees, ya know!" with a wink and a big laugh. He seemed so warm and loving. The comraderie with Heath was obvious too and very warm, whispering back and forth. We were in the same area with them for about ten minutes--no paparazzi was seen but ya never know--maybe a pic will show up in a couple of days. They just seemed to all be so bonded and friendly and easy together. IT WAS GREAT--I MEAN GREAT TO SEE JAKE AND HEATH AND MICHELLE TOGETHER--obviously they are close and really friends, not just Hollywood balony. Wow---I'm still reeling..... "

Good for Heath, for us and for all involved.
And yes,I'm sure Jake had a huge part in this operation, especially since they all have the same PR firm.
And though Jake is modest about his place in the world, he is aware of the power he and his family wield in that community as are his godfathers and whoever else his family is connected with.
Maybe this will start a movement out there to make these vultures sit up and take notice, cause change it is a coming'. Anything is possible if you just try. fingers xxxed.

Ditto.

I've mixed feelings about Heath's last film and the proposed solution. Firstly, the story originated in The Sun, which means it could well just be complete fantasy. Also, I really don't know how on earth I'd feel watching the film, at the moment I think it just feels sureal, strange and wrong, but with the passage of time, the chance to see Heath's last film, yeah, I'd probably want to.

But, I will say this, if this is how the choose to finish the film, Terry Gilliam will treat Heath's work with the upmost of respect and love, and I really can't think of four other actors I would want to do this - Jake, Christian, Johnny and Sean, as well as being friends and people that loved Heath, are all remarkable actors who would never let Heath's previous work down.

About Brokeback Kiss:

"I have to tell a story about how serious an actress Michelle is. The first kissing scene by the staircase, that’s the first kissing scene that we did. It was like the first week of shooting with Jake. So, the guys worked out and I was happy. The guys were exhausted from the different angles we shot it. Then we turn around to shoot Michelle’s reaction. So, we talk about how she was crushed, she was blank, she doesn’t know what hits her. It takes the rest of the movie to see how pissed she is, everything. And so the guys were down there sort of leaning on each other for her to look at and she wanted them to start kissing and mess around. She could hardly see them (laughing)! They were just there to help her. So they started necking and she was not happy about it. Then they started kissing and she was like, ‘Come on guys, I need it!’ I was very impressed. And when I see on the monitor her face, that one moment… Again, no dialogue. And it’s very hard to show what she thinks. But I just think, for one second it’s really worth it.”

Afternoon peeps:)
It seems as if unspeakable acts like this, have existed in Hollywood, since forever.

Danny DeVito, played a slime ball editor of Confidential Magazine, a gossip magazine in the movie LA Confidential starring Russell Crowe.
He paid fellow slime balls money, to entrap actors with drugs or having sex and then he would call the police.

Stings were initiated by this magazine, similar to the way Heath was lured to that drug filled hotel room, by his so-called new acquaintances. DaYUM.

Heath's honesty, perhaps his most endearing quality, is what they didn't expect. His remarks about his love Michelle giving it to him for even being there, were exactly what I would expect from a person not indulging in drugs, yet faced with a room full of drug users who were using.

I love you Heath.

UltraViolet said...

Ah, sass, I love that point. Even in this hdeous, sleazy attempt to discredit Heath, Heath's true nature manages to shine through.

I just saw that Michelle released a statement:

"Please respect our need to grieve privately," Williams said in a statement released on Friday by Ledger's spokeswoman. "My heart is broken."
...

"I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father," Williams said in her statement.

"All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day. His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up with the best memories of him."

Michelle's statement breaks my heart. Her description of Matilda growing up, looking exactly like her dad, as she begins to exhibit some of his character and personality traits, is bittersweet but lovely to read.

TY:)

This is interesting, about Jake hosting the party. Because Lainey got this from George Clooney's website

http://www.laineygossip.com/Brad_Pitt_Angelina_Jolie_Jennifer_Aniston_to_attend_The_Night_Before_Oscar_party_.aspx

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry. I don't ever go to Lainey's. She has been perfectly hateful to Heath. She said horrible things about Heath when he went to TIFF to promote CANDY.
And she only acknowledged his death with a very bitter, slap, not even saying his name.

I know she likes Jake, but right now, my heart is aching. The statement from Michelle was so beautiful. What a lovely, whimsical child. Heath was right...he really is living on in his little girl.

I think Lainey's list is the updated list of attendees. The one posted at 2:31PM is probably old.

I see Jake and Reese are still playing coy, they are listed seperatedly as attending and the rest are coupled up!

I can't see the point of arriving seperately since this is not a red carpet event.

I bet they arrive together.

Michelle's statement is heartbreaking yet so beautiful. My heart goes to her and little Matilda. :(

Good to hear Jake and Reese are part of the pre-Oscar hoopla! I hope things go smoothly for Jake finishing up Brothers.

From the zny times:

When Icons Die Young

FROM THE HEART Public reaction to the death of the actor Heath Ledger last week recalled the anguish over the passing of James Dean in 1955. The poet Thomas Chatterton, who killed himself at 17, was romanticized in the 19th century.

By JENNY LYN BADER
Published: January 27, 2008
A YOUNG man lying in bed seems at peace. You might recognize him, or not, as he is not in a familiar role. He is supposed to wake up but he never does, causing a surge

Heath Ledger passed away only Tuesday, but his transformation is already under way, from acclaimed actor to most-searched Internet term, from film star to cultural touchstone.

The blogosphere went into overdrive. In two days his memorial page on Facebook had over 30,000 members. The entertainment Web site TMZ generated over 74 pages of user comments. Hundreds of eulogies for the 28-year-old Australian appeared on The Sydney Morning Herald’s site.

What accounts for this need to pay public tribute? Successive generations have felt that impulse — the need to make sense of untimely death, and even justify it, by celebrating the dead young person in an outsize way, or, every so often, to attend the funeral of someone they don’t know.

When the actor Rudolph Valentino lay in state in 1926 at the age of 31, more than 50,000 fans showed up. In 1955, a later generation grieved the passing of the 24-year-old James Dean, who received two posthumous Academy Award nominations on his way to the pantheon.

In 1994, Generation X-ers, too, lost a 20-something artistic legend, with the death of Kurt Cobain. Mr. Cobain proved an unfortunate role model to some younger followers, inspiring a few copycat suicides and fueling speculation that there could be a wave of such imitations. This phenomenon, known as the Werther Effect, takes its name from Goethe’s “Sorrows of Young Werther.” The popular novel featured a hero who like Mr. Cobain, stirred fans both to dress like him and die like him.

When Marilyn Monroe died of a drug overdose three decades earlier, the overall suicide rate in the United States briefly rose by 12 percent. Fortunately, perhaps due to all the therapy and anti-depressants available in the 1990s, Mr. Cobain never had quite the Werther Effect that Werther had.

Star suicides shock us, raising the question of whether celebrities, underneath all their glamorous trappings, are just as miserable and depressed as everyone else. The suicides of the abject rarely, but occasionally, attract attention, too.

In 1770, the starving poet Thomas Chatterton killed himself at 17. His talents were not recognized until later, when the Romantic poets began romanticizing his literary brilliance and tragic death. Two of those who praised Chatterton met tragic early ends themselves — Keats by tuberculosis at 25, Shelley by drowning at 29.

As of now, the death of Mr. Ledger seems unintentional. No matter: the unintended death of someone with so much to live for captivates the public, too. Consider the mania surrounding Tutankhamen more than 3,000 years after he died at age 18.

In generational terms, the death of a contemporary most frightens the young. When one notable lifetime ends, that generation begins to end, too. The death of someone cut down in the prime of life brings home our own mortality. Maybe our rendering them immortal is our way of not facing that inevitability.

Yet, ultimately, the sudden loss of a young luminary offers a powerful message, not only about death but about life choices. There is the dilemma of Achilles, the Greek hero who learns from his mother that he has two options: go home and live a long life or die at war and earn everlasting fame.

He chooses fame, and upon his early death is mourned by mortals and gods alike. When a 20-something superstar expires, one cannot help but wonder how many celebrities make Achilles’ bargain with fame. In a way it is comforting, perhaps even life affirming, for the majority of human beings, nonsuperstars, to think they have chosen the other course.

Then there are the hard-core fans. One big fan of Achilles was Alexander the Great, who pretty much conquered the known world by the age of 25. He died at 32.

Mr. Ledger was originally offered the role of Alexander played by Colin Farrell in the biopic. Instead he will be remembered for being a leading man who is all things to all people from Casanova himself to Ennis del Mar in “Brokeback Mountain” to a literal knight in shining armor. In a way he will even be remembered for his courage, in a day and age when playing a gay role requires courage. And today he seems poised to conquer at least some of the known world in another way.

Thanks for the article. Just thinking. Heath might be uncomfortable being an icon, but he'd really hate being a cliche'.

I hate that they are associating his death with suicide.

Just saw this on IHJ apparently this was posted on ONTD, but I was unable to find it.

"I wanted to post this the second after it all ended, but as it was the day Heath Ledger died and there was chaos/tragedy/sadness everywhere, I decided to wait.

I live in NM where Brothers is currently being filmed and I went up to the Santa Fe area to get down for my birthday with some friends. On the 22nd we took a drive through the mountains and hey ho, we ended up in Glorietta the same day Jake, Toby, and Natalie were there filming (ok so we stalked, I'm sorry). After we begged and pleaded with security and showed them my ID to PROVE it was my goddamned birthday, they let us onto the set to watch a scene come alive. They were, however, incredibly uptight and confiscated my phone, camera, and even my iTouch (wtf I don't know why they did that) until we left the set so alas, I have no photos.

We watched them film a scene where Jake and someone else walked down a road, a very emotional scene it seemed like. It was awesome to get to see it happen, and watch Jake get into character. They did nine or ten takes of the scene from what I can remember. I didn't get to actually speak to him because he was busy, but we did get to talk to Natalie Portman - she was very cordial. She seemed surprised we got onto the set and wished me a happy birthday before she went into her trailer. OMG best birthday ever so far.

Around 3:30 they took a quick break from filming and even though we were totally scared out of our minds, my friends and I decided to approach Jake and maybe get an autograph. So we walked towards him while he talked on his cell phone and chewed on a stick, hovered like creepies, and then realized something was wrong. Jake stared at his phone for a long time, like he couldn't believe what he'd heard, stuck it in his pocket, and crouched on the ground. We just stood there like idiots, some five feet away, with no clue what happened because all of our phones were gone.

Jim Sheridan (the director) was standing a few feet away and walked over to Jake, crouched down next to him, said something very quietly that we couldn't hear, and helped Jake stand up. Jake simply wiped his eyes and made a beeline for his trailer, quickly followed by his assistant. We still had no idea what was wrong, but you could tell the whole cast and crew had found out - it was like some sort of dark cloud hovered over. Jim Sheridan grabbed his megaphone shortly afterwards and said 'That's it for today. We'll get in touch about tomorrow. Thanks everyone.'

We were escorted off the set by a security guard, who gave us back our phones and camera and stuff, and upon checking my text messages, I realized they had shut down for the day because of Heath.

In retrospect, I kind of wish I hadn't been there. It was like being the awkward friend witnessing a terrible, private experience - factor in famous, talented people and the death of a tremendous actor, and you have a very sad encounter.

The only reason I posted this was so ONTD could get an idea of how Jake reacted. He didn't say anything to anyone - he was very calm, composed, but obviously grief-stricken. I just wish I could have given him a hug and said something supportive.

Yes I locked this entry."

Michelle's words are just heartbreaking, and completely beautiful

His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up with the best memories of him.

Just made me cry again.

I think that it was Ok that you posted it. It is a locked journal but she did post it on ONTD.

The sadness never sems to end.

I don't think Reese and Jake are playing coy. All the other "pairs" are married couples. Jake and Reese are not married.

"In retrospect, I kind of wish I hadn't been there. It was like being the awkward friend witnessing a terrible, private experience"

I felt the very same way..... and I was only reading about this glimpse of Jake's grief.
I know it's not much to go on, but from this account, Jim Sheridan appears to be a kind man.....

I felt a bit uncomfortable reading that blog account but it rings so true to me.

I can't even imagine what Jake is going through. Michele's statement is heartbreaking.

It's not getting any easier.

Anonymous said...

How true! Not getting any easier. We haven't had "closure." When a famous person dies unexpectedly, tin the days immediately following, there's a serious grieving period. Even from a great distance,we at least had the ability to "share" the celebration of life that a funeral service or memorial service is. I wholeheartedly support the desire for privacy and the family's wishes to grieve in peace.
But Heath was loved and respected by many thousands of people. The fact that somehow that part isn't being acknowledged makes it harder to get closure. IMHO. As hard as it maybe, I think it would be easier if his family were able to make even a small accomodation to widen their circle of grief to include all the people who loved him.

Some information on a second LA memorial service for Heath.

His family was in attendance, but Michele and Matilda were not. No mention of Jake.

It sounds like it was a very moving, emotional service.

This was a different memorial than last time.

This one was held this past Saturday, one week after the original.

It doesn't appear as if Jake attended this one.

Morning peeps,
OK Sarah and we're off:) It's a beautiful day and we'll hit the warm 40 degree temp range to day too.
Go Giants:):)

NYC has been like Christmas for the last two weeks...so say the merchants..people are buying TVs like never before... and of course everyone is talking 24/7 nonstop about the game.

I'm off to my brothers' this evening with my bucket of wings...sending love and hugs to everyone here as we continue to mourn Heath...

I ordered Brothers from B&N...I can't wait. I know it won't spoil the movie for me and it will take my mind off Heath for a minute. I had no idea how imprinted Jake, Heath and BBM was in my mind and spirit.

I dreamed I was famous last night but can't remember if it was Heath, probably not, and was being chased by the paps. I woke up laughing...silly me...it helped just a little.
Oh Heath, I miss you so much.

This is a meandering post, so sorry if I'm bothering anyone. I have a very bad cold,so I have been "hibernating" and feeling sad.
Yesterday, I thought I'd try to watch something "uplifting" I went for Billy Elliot, and ended up n a puddle of tears, missing Heath. Today, I took another run and decided to watch "The Full Monty." Imagine my surprise when I watched the credits roll and saw Kate Ledger listed as production coordinator! So I went to IMDB and there she was, listed in a production capacity for all sorts of film and TV projects. The latest being two Harry Potter films. I'm pretty certain this is Heath's sister. I was also struck by the fact that Mark Ruffalo attened the memorial service for Heath. Apparently his wife is very close to Michelle Williams. And Abbie Cornish has been very present with the Ledger family. So many overlapping relationships!

Congratulations to all you Giants fans out there. I'm actually really happy for Eli Manning, for whom I've always had sympathy (Peyton's younger brother, all the hype and blame, etc.)

I'm sad that we didn't get our perfect season. And I'm especially annoyed that those whiny Miami Dolphins from 1972 have their perfect season record intact.

But I'm not as upset as I thought I'd be. Perhaps the whole Heath nightmare has put this into perspective. We'll see if that perspective lasts as I go about my daily life.
