The magic of cell phone cameras and French interviewers

They might not have perfect clarity, but they get the message across.

Remember the hair stylist/designer who blogged about seeing Reese and Jake at the Rufus Wainwright/Belinda Carlisle concert on New Year's Eve? He has put up a couple of photos.

This is probably an egregious violation of ethics, but then again, this guy took a camera phone picture of people he doesn't know!

You can wish it were clearer or closer, but in the end, you really see everything you need to see.

I found a really great feature on Rendition, with clips of interviews with Jake and Reese. Had to split it into two parts:

I laughed that they replaced Jake's version of the Streep/Sarsgaard scene with the scene itself. I think Jake must have mentioned that scene in every interview.

I love it when interviewers ask slightly different questions. And I love it even more when Jake reveals a little about himself. Yes, Jake, you are the subject of much analysis!

(You can click on the "two parts" links above to see a larger version of the videos, which are courtesy of Canal+)

Wow thank you UV the master of tidbits, and yes you do see everything you need to see. Lovely, thank you again.

Thank you.

Do you think, with the bluring in the photos, that if you got very drunk and then looked at the them they'd be perfectly sharp :D

Squinting away here - is that the ring we were all speculating about again on the ring finger of Reese's right hand ??? And why does Jake's shirt sleeve appear to be disappearing into Reese's head :o

Thanks for the photos UV, great fun!

Squeeeeeeeeee! Even though they are blurry, thanks so much UV. Off to watch the videos now, I love this blog!!

Awww! Lovely pics, if not blurry, hehe. We get the idea though. Blurry or not, J&R look very comfortable and cozy together. :)

Thanks also for the videos. I will have to go and watch them!

Going back to the previous post, love reading Jake labeled as "stunning". We knew that of course, but it is always great to see it written in print. He is stunning inside and out! BDH is lovely too and a friend of Jake's.

Btw, there was a sighting of Jake and fam at Babbo Restaurant in NYC for Christmas Eve. I love hearing Jake and fam sightings as I do J&R sightings.

I don't know if I believe any of the tabloid rumors but it is interesting. I personally prefer pics or legit sightings to flowery stories that say they are engaged. Reading a blog sighting of Reese in NM for Jake's birthday is legit to me. I find the other stuff is invasive and bothersome that so called "friends" or "sources" claim they "know" what Jake and Reese are doing or feeling. Actions speak louder than words, imo. Plus the tabloid crap is used as fodder in certain places and I don't like that for either J or R. JMO.

Anonymous said...

^^ Also have to say a huge thank you to UV for finding these pics and videos!

And finished the Zodiac Jake/RDJ commentary and it is great! They are so great together and I so want them to do a comedy. They would be hilarious!

UV!!!! You're a genius! An angel!!!
You are to Jake!blogging as Beckham is to soccer, and Tom Brady is to football. You're the Kanye West/Beyonce/Alicia Keys/Bruce Springsteen and Luciano Pavrotti of Investigative Jaking.
You're not a Scorcese...yet, but you're nearly a Speilberg! And certainly a Battali!
I love you.
There. I've said it.

I knew the movie rumor and the engagement story came from the Star and the NE, but here is more "info". Considering the source i wouldn't believe it but the NE does mention that they went to that concert on NYE and they did but i think they may have gotten the the weekend in NM mixed up, it says the wekend before New years, but we know that they were in L.A. the weekend before NY's becasue of the pics of them and the kids. They must mean the weekend before Christmas which would make sense.

I just saw that Shondra. First thought: Do I have to buy the Enquirer now?! LOL.

I understand your tabloid resistance, get real. I agree that blog sightings are more reliable. But some of the tab stuff has also been correct.

As far as other places using the tabloid stuff as fodder? I guess I don't want to limit what we post here because of what other places might do. Not that I want to help those places in their unending quest to mock Jake and Reese. But I don't want to let them dictate what we talk about.

I'm not sure if that's what you meant. And I'd hate to put you off - I don't want this place to be all about tabloid rumors, either. It was just something fun to fill the news gap :)

And hi, gr77! Haven't seen you for a while. Hope all's well.

Thanks for the kudos, Bobbyanna, though I think you give me far too much creative credit! But as Jake says, I'll take it.

Hello chica and sheba baby, as well as anons. Glad I (or rather, Romi Cortier!) could make your morning a happy one!

And Agent K, I love your drinking and picture-scoping idea. Working from home today de to the snow, so maybe I can try that this afternoon!

Also, I do think that's the ring we were speculating about, but I'm not convinced that that ring is new.

I love Jake's disappearing shirtsleeve. I like how close they are. I like blurry and schmoopy.

UV, I wasn't saying you shouldn't post the tabloid stuff at all. I really appreciate that all J/R info is posted here whether is it from a blog, tabloid, etc, etc. It wasn't about other places getting it from here. Or that that should dictate what you post. It was about these write ups about an engagement and the movie are questionable to me. That doesn't mean I am not interested in reading it or that it is false. It could all be very true. I love J/R so I am interested in anything about them. I just meant that I take a wait and see attitude about it all. I hope I haven't put you off. That wasn't my intention at all. I love this place a lot and really appreciate all the work you and FL do and everyone who posts here. :)

Shondra, this sighting has Jake in NYC for Christmas so I think you are right that they got the NM weekend confused.

UltraViolet said...

No worries, get real. I was trying to make sure we weren't putting you off! We're all too polite ;)

I have the same theory as you. I'm interested in it all, so I want to read it all. And it's pretty easy to sift through and separate the hope-it's-true sublime from the really ridiculous (Jake and Tobey fighting over makeup personnel!)

agent_krycek said...

Quick one, Reese is on the cover of Glamour Magazine over in the UK - haven't read it all, just a brief flick through in the shop - she refused to be drawn on Jake, but there was a comment about how well suited they seemed, and perhaps they'd form a perfect Gyllenspoon (or words to that effect, the shop assistant was glaring at me by the time I found the Jake reference and I got a bit rushed)

Anonymous said...

UV, I tend to agree that that ring isn't new. Sometimes I get the sense that the tabloids are playing "catch up" on the news or that they are trying to clean up contradictions in their own reporting. And I often get the sense that the tabloids get a lot of their "leads" from blogs.

The kudos are sincere, even if offered in a jokey way, UV, because honestly, I often think you do a much better, more up to date, more accurate job, then any tabloid I've ever read. And this blog that you and FlourescentLamp,(my other Angel!) created, gives a lot of other fans a chance to bring their discoveries to the party, too! One thing tho. I kind of think it's fun sometimes, tho I hate to admit it, to see affirmations in the "popular press" about the cuteness of Jake and Reese coupled up. It is a welcomed, effective counterbalance
to some of the other, narrower perspectives offered in cyberspace.

agent_krycek said...

And I often get the sense that the tabloids get a lot of their "leads" from blogs.

They definately do, blogs and websites, I've seen numerous instances of it, quite often it's not even rewritten, very lazy journalism. Recently a well known UK composer died, instead of actually researching and compiling a nice, accurate piece about him and his work, most got their info from Wikipedia, which included a load of rubbish about stuff he'd hadn't actually written, and reported it all as fact *roll eyes*

Anonymous said...

It's all good, UV! :D

bobbyanna, I totally agree that many of these taloids go right to blogs and pretty much copy and paste info. Very, very lazy "journalism" indeed. That is part of my issue that things like that become "fact" because a tabloid saw something on a blog and just put a half assed spin on it. But it is all interesting speculation. Guess we will have to wait and see what happens. I just enjoy waiting and speculating with you all here! ;)

Anonymous said...

UV, those pictures are rather blurred, but much appreciated Nevertheless. One thing I'm curious about. And yes, it is a prurient curiosity. I can see Jake's arm across the back of Reese's seat, by her hair. But the way she is sitting isn't that clear. Is that her leg? Which leg? And where is Jake's other arm?
They seem very affectionate.

Anonymous said...

You guys realize that the vast majority of the tabloids only reprint what other tabloids have already written. They're not offering any new information themselves.

People seem to equate the number of stories with veracity, when that simply isn't the case. Maybe a story breaks that tabloid editors (this is especially true with online gossip columnists)find interesting and/or cute. Then they reprint the story. They may use more than one tabloid story, but again they don't have any new sources that add anything to the story --- they're only adding their little spin to it.

First, I seriously doubt that Reese/Jake are seriously considering the Valentine's Day film. They may have been offered the part, but that doesn't mean that they accepted it.

Second, the engagement story is almost certainly coming because of the ring Reese was wearing in those photos (we speculated about it first, remember) and not because "insiders" are spilling secrets to various tabloids. I seriously doubt Jake proposed in Rome, but since that was the "first" tabloid rumor re: engagement and since the ring on Reese's finger appears to be an engagement ring, they combined the two stories with no corroborating evidence to suggest the story is anything but speculation.

My point is take anything a tabloid writes with a grain of salt. I'm willing to bet you that we are more informed about these two then any of them are.

Thats a good point, bobbyanna. And ITA. Plus, the outrage over the "made-up" stories is often amusing, given the source.

Agent K, thank you for taking your reporting duties seriously and risking the wrath of the store employees!

JP, I think we all know the tabloid stuff is unreliable at best. It's just fun, not to be taken seriously.

Hey, did any of you guys watch the video? Jake is really cute in it, I think. Gyllenbabble at its finest!

I love his answer about whether he's an analytical type. And his answer about the politics of a cast and crew from all over - the biggest issue was what to eat!

Reese's answers are a little flatter, I think. She tends to play things a little close to the vest in interviews.

"This is probably an egregious violation of ethics...."

Oh, UV, even if it is, I am not ashamed to say how glad I am you decided to share it with us! I probably should feel more guilty than I do, but can't help it..... I love seeing them together, even if it is blurry and schmoopy. A big thanks to you for making me happy! : )

Haven't had a chance to watch the videos yet, but that will be my treat when I get back home tonight from dinner w/ friends.

It is rather amusing how far behind the tabloids are on this story. "US" magazine is still including the "fact" that J & R met when filming "Rendition" in every one of their write ups. I know they aren't aiming to be "Time" or "Newsweek", but aren't the tabs interested in even a sliver of credibility? Guess not!

sass said...

Hi Sarah,
Jake, as usual, gives an almost painful, totally honest interview about his role; he shares his thoughts both personal and political about this character, and he share with us some of the sources he studied to prepare for his role in Rendition.

It seems from his interviews, that one of the constants in Jake's life, is his never-ending search for truth, about himself, about life as he experiences it and about his place in the universe.

Jake exposes himself more than most actors during his interviews. His search for his personal truth, his willingness to explore who he is and experience all that life offers, makes him my favorite young actor.

Through no fault of his own, Jake has grown, and is still growing, into an uncommonly handsome man. His looks--which as he has stated in interviews, he can take no credit for--remind me of the screen idols of yore. They are almost impossible to obliterate, so he uses all the tools in his acting arsenal, as did Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant and Gary Cooper, to make himself over into what ever his role requires.

However, I must admit, sometimes Jake does make me drool uncontrollably, when I try to make sense of what's on screen; for just a moment, but then I'm back enjoying him as whoever he's playing on screen. :lol

Unlike some of these newfound critics, who heap praise on Zodiac and almost none on Rendition...even Mr Fincher, who disappointed me, by pointing out some of what he considered flaws in this fine movie... I, who loved a very strange and unloved sci-fi movie, Blade Runner 20++ years ago, believe that Rendition, will be a movie remembered and referenced as years pass, and we become less involved in our failed Iraq policies of the present administration.
xoxoxo

Anonymous said...

A movie like Rendition is a record of a kind. Years from now, when all this stuff is a memory, people will see this film and they will look up "extraordinary rendition" and they will know that this story was based on real events. And that yes, we did that. So I really appreciate the respect all the actors gave to this project, and the integrity and the desire to be thoughtful and to get it right.

Anonymous said...

Jake's physical beauty - absolutely undeniable - is one thing. In addition he has a vitality and radiance which captures the eye, even in group pics like the Oscar nominees lunch. I had to look for other people - not for him: he just stands out. But even these qualities would be mere surface but for his integrity thoughtfullness and openness.

sass said...

I agree with everyone. Jake's integrity is at the core of his being and is evident in all his interviews and interactions with reporters and fans.

I just sat here enthralled as I watched the second part of the tape.
That Jake and the crew could only find differences in what food they craved gives me great hope about humankind.

So Sarah, Jake gives us another nugget of information; our world traveler has French friends he chats it up with.:)
We know so little about Jake or any actor really, which is why I try to take what I can from him on screen, and enjoy reading about him personally, or not, as happens sometimes, *grin*.
All ways, I remain happy and gratified to have known him in my lifetime.
I won't mention American Rendition interview tapes, but
your finding this French interview tape ,hit it out of the park for all of us. TY:)

UV, I thoroughly enjoyed the videos of the French interviews w. Reese and Jake. Jake is a sweetheart! So accessible and open and yes, the absolute definition of Gyllenbabble!

I think he makes a special effort not to be preachy. He seems to want people to reach a "right" answer on their own. And yet it was pretty clear to me he definitely has opinions and convictions.

Was deeply impressed with his comments and observations about Gavin Hood and his South African experience/perspective.

Actually, I found Reese surprisingly open in her attitudes about the political situation. She is a lot more progressive than I ever believed her to be!

In their own way, I felt each of them was attracted to the story because of it's deeply personal nature. The way individuals and families are affected by policies and decisions and events totally beyond their control. Affected in ways that alter their lives forever.

I was particularly impressed with Reese's interest in exploring what it would mean for her character to be part of a Muslim household. IMHO, that took real professional courage since it runs against the typecasting of her past characters.

The videos are real gems and I will watch them over again several times.

Anonymous said...

I so enjoyed the "Rendition" interviews with Jake and Reese. They both are such intellectually substantive people IMO...... neither strike me as a superficial lightweight.

I loved hearing Jake's take on why he was so attracted to playing Douglas.......relating to the silence of the character. His reference to actors who indulge in showy "ACTING" really struck a chord with me. Not to pick on any one actor, but.... as much as I loved the movie "Lars and the Real Girl", I was so put off by Ryan G's facial mugging. He never created a real person I believed in... I just felt like I was watching an actor "act" through the entire movie. (I know I am in a tiny minority here.)
Jake's quiet performance in "Rendition" was the polar opposite..... and, to me, showed much more skill and substance and emotional truth.

I know I will have to watch these videos again to digest everything.
Thanks, UV!

His looks--which as he has stated in interviews, he can take no credit for--remind me of the screen idols of yore.

There's a bit in BBM, when he comes back to camp and Ennis isn't there because of the bear, Jake is wearing the hankie round his neck, there's a profile shot of him, ever time without fail I'm just reminded of the film stars of the 1920s, it's difficult to explain but there's something beautiful and timeless about him in that shot.

BTW, going way OT, but I thought it worth saying, don't know if everyone has seen it, but after Johnny Depp's daughter was ill last year and was looked after by the staff at Great Ormand Street Hosptial in London, he not only invited Drs and nurses along to the premier of Sweeney Todd in London, he also, donated £1 million of his own money, got Disney to donate a further £10 million, he also flew his Capt Jack costume over and spent hours reading bedtime stories to the children in the hospital - what a fantastic bloke. (apologies for the very OT of that, but it's given me a very warm glow this morning on a very disgusting wet, damp and windy day in London)

Anonymous said...

I loved both interviews and agree with bobbyanna in that Jake isn't preachy but you know where he stands. And I assumed (wrongly)about Reese, her views not only on this subject but others I have found out are progressive. I'm finding out a lot about Ms. Witherspoon because of Jake!

Thanks so much for finding the videos, you guys are doing a wonderful job with this blog and I love visiting it.

Afternoon all,
I love this blog too.

Agent Kyrcek, I got less of a snowy weekend and Monday, than was promised by weather.com, but I can sympathize with you.

The BBM shot you mentioned is one of my favorites. I started to wake up to Jake as handsome, grownup, drop dead beautiful after my 10th BBM visit.
I'd been watching him on the big screen since forever. I saw him as cute, gangly, and maybe awkward; damn, talk about metamorphosis.

I know Jake will rock another beautiful sexy man, Broadway Joe Namath, who was one hot quarterback in my day. And, he was a quarterback--hello Ramo--who could deliver...not the caliber of Tom Brady, but who is. However, Broadway Joe did deliver the Superbowl, for us New Yorkers, just as he said he would.

Now, if only Eli Manning can make my day. But I digress:lol;)

It's good to know that Reese is politically active. I've read Naomi is pro-Obama, which should add fuel to the heated Gyllenhaal dinner table discussions.
I hope Reese can butt her way in; from what Jake has mentioned, it's every man for himself, when defending their opinions.

back soon.

I've wondered if Jake is caught between his mother and his s. other on the presidential front! I'm glad to hear that Reese endorsed Hillary.

Like some of you, I totally prejudged Reese and assumed she was a conservative. As soon as I heard that she had supported Hillary in the past, I couldn't object to the pairing! (Thanks for the news and the thumbs-up, office-of-pelosi!)

Thanks for the Enquirer update, Agent K. It appears as if I will have to buy another tabloid today. What a delicious image.

I just felt like I was watching an actor "act" through the entire movie. (I know I am in a tiny minority here.)

I agree with you, suvee, about Gosling and especially about Jake's Rendition performance. I think he suffered similar underappreciation for BBM. Heath got all the accolades for the showier part (an oxymoron, I know, since Ennis was anything but flamboyant).

But Jake was so natural, his performance so seamless, that it seeemed easy and he was not given credit for it.

Sass, I'll root for Eli right up until he meets Tom:)

I haven't heard that Reese endorsed Hillary. In fact during the promotion for Rendition she said that she likes to keep her politics to herself, although i'm pretty sure she does support Hillary.

No one else has mentioned this. But, again, it wouldn't surprise me if true.

When suvee commented on RG's over-emoting, strangely enough the first thing I thought of was Heath Ledger in BBM. I had always been a fan of Heath's - until BBM. And even in viewing that movie the very first time, after hearing how 'amazing' Heath was in this role, I couldn't get past the fact that he was so noticeably acting.

I quickly looked past him and his acting because that other guy he was acting with? Blew. me. away.

Anonymous said...

"I couldn't get past the fact that he was so noticeably acting."

I thought I was the only one who thought that.

Love the the way Jake is stroking Reese's hair.

I'm not so sure that Reese has endorsed Hillary in public. I know she has made donations to her campaigns for both Senate bids.
I also know that she has been asked about the topic in the past, she has always responded that she supports the idea of woman being our president. Reese is a really big supporter of woman and their causes. That's why she claims to have taken her role at Avon, that always been her platform in her movies, to not be female victims.

Anonymous said...

Reese has a long time connection to the Children's Defense Fund as does Hillary. Perhaps this is why she supports her.

after many looks, I've decided that I love this pic of J & R at the Rufus/Belinda concert. Nothing against Hillary at all, but I have to say I'm with Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal on this one. I'm a Barack Obama supporter. I will happily support the nominee of the party in November. This is totally off topic, but I just feel so bad about it. I read in justjared that Brad Renfro is dead...since he was known to have major problems with drug abuse, they are suggesting that as the pirmary cause, but aren't certain. They found him dead in his LA home. He was 25. Some of you might remeber him from his film debut as the you boy who hires Susan Sarandon in The Client. He was also in Sleepers with Robert DeNiro and Brad Pitt.
He was a promising young actor. What a terrible waste.

sass said...

I am also shocked by Brad Renfro's death. He's just 25 years old. He's too young to go like this.

Evening all,
Since we're on the subject of politics, I thought I'd dig up a NY Times article, about politics on Martha's Vineyard, Jake's summer home.
It's a fun read, and demonstrates in microcosm, what many Democrats are facing this year.

And I really like the picture of Jake and Maggie.

And thanks to sass for that NYTimes story. I remember reading it this summer and wondering if Jake would show up at any of the parties in support of Hillary or Barack.

And you know we always have your back here :)

The blurriness (is that even a real word?) only adds a lovely romantic, impressionistic quality.... it's like a modern Degas. And oddly enough, the fact that everything isn't clear and in focus only enhances the feeling of intimacy between them.

Had to quote that whole thing, suvee, because you phrased it so beautifully. As much as I'd love a clear shot, I agree that the way the photo came out makes for a different kind of beauty.
