On Heath

I know many people are anxious to hear something from Jake about Heath. Before that happens, if it happens, these past quotes might help.

From iMagazine:

In the end, Gyllenhaal chocks up his on-screen romantic chemistry with co-star Ledger to the simple bonds of trust and friendship that they formed while making the movie.

"For Heath and I, I think it's a friendship and a trust that as actors we were going to go someplace that we both were afraid of and we knew that we were," says Gyllenhaal. "We just trusted each other. I think in that trust was chemistry and there was a real connection in that. He was a great guy and we were just kind of friends from the beginning. We both admired what it took to play both the characters we were playing and we knew at a certain point we only had each other because we never knew how people were going to respond to the movie, so we kind of just joined up and said 'Fuck 'em, lets go for it.' And we did and I think you probably see that.

From EmanuelLevy:

Heath and I trusted each other enough to take risks. It was wonderful creating an intimacy with him. He made me feel comfortable; he made me want to be present, and that's the best thing you can ask for from someone you're acting with.

From People:

"Heath wears his heart on his shoulder. (With) that kind of sensitivity and strength his child will feel safe."

That second quote is especially wrenching. It also makes me laugh, which I need right now. Felicia probably remembers how it always bugged me that Jake says Heath wears his heart o his shoulder, not on his sleeve. Gylenbabble at its most endearing!

Many of you may have seen this article. It contains remembrances from people across the globe who encountered Heath. It just reinforces how special Heath was.

I also tried to find some shots of Jake and Heath that we don't see all the time. These are from the BBM screening at the Venice Film Festival. I love how Jake and Heath are almost mirroring each other in the last two. And how happy they both look.

I love the sepia tint, and the way Jake and Heath seem in their own little world.

Finally, this is one of my favorite pictures of Heath. I think he looks beautiful, and he has thatuniquely Heath gleam in his eye:

Good Morning,

I tried posting last night but I was having problems.

I went to Broome St. in SOHO and placed flowers in front of Heath's apt. yesterday after work along with a card from everyone here on gyllenbabble.

The crowd was small but respectful adn sad. So much love and admiration, i was an emotional mess. I still can't believe he is gone, my heart just aches.

I heard that there will be a private viewing today in NY and then a memorial service in L.A. and then his family will be taking him home.

I will post more later, i'm at work right now, i need to keep busy.

Afternoon UV and all,

Please tell me what time Ellen will have Jake on today?
I've never done the flowers in front of a person's home...I felt compelled to and so I did. I can never promise myself a good day but I couldn't not go down. I wish I could have seen you Chica but unfortunately I couldn't make it down until near 7PM.:(:(

I'm glad to hear Gibson at least apologized. He should be removed from the air permanently, but I know Fox Networks will never do that.

Heath, I love and miss you so much.

I'll try to catch up later...make my son give me the computer...I can't seem to find the Ellen site...brain damage:lol:lol
hugs and more hugs to us all.

Unfortunately, sass, he didn't really apologize for his despicable remarks. What he said was - he was sorry if his remarks offended anyone. Not that he himself was sorry over the vile things he said. He's a piece of shit.

Just got back from leaving flowers and a note from all of us at Heath's apt. on Broome St. Very surreal to say the least. There were crowds and lots of beautiful tributes, note, flowers, etc. One was a eye shaped piece of metal painted and saying "Heath, Andy Warhol would have loved you." I always find it surreal when people stand and take pictures at a memorial site I guess since going down to Ground Zero just after 9/11 and seeing people do it just leaves a strange feeling for me. I know they are dealing with it in their own way too. Anyway, everyone was just respectful and quiet. Some people went into the building and a delivery man as well. The clothing store next door was buzzing people in for business. Just life and mourning in NYC. Like Sass and Chica, I was glad I could go and represent us all and share our love and feelings to Heath.

Chica and get real - thanks to you both for going to Broome Street and sharing your experiences. Both of you, and Sass, have stepped up and in for all of us who couldn't be there.

Thanks to Stephanie at IHJ for uploading the video of Jake on Ellen today, the one Monica posted. That provided a much-needed smile.

That video of the Venice photo call is almost too hard to watch. Smiling, carefree Heath, just on the verge of the big, beautiful BBM phenomenon. Sob.

Also almost too much - those beautiful tributes from Heath's family. I cannot even imagine what they are going through with the spotlight on their grief.

Us has a few details about Heath's body being moved, if you can stand it. And TMZ has the actual video of the body being moved into the hearse.

Sigh.

Yep, thanks to Stephanie, as always, for giving to the fans like she always does. Where would we be without her?? she's an angel. (((Steph)))

evening everyone,
So sorry I missed you get real:(
One of our papers had a photograph of the inside of the loft apartments in Heath's building; each apt occupied an entire floor.

Heath was obviously thinking about having loads of run around space in the apt for his darling daughter.

Thanks fl for the information about Gibson. I couldn't visit yet, but I think I can imagine how non-apologetic he sounded.

Sorry I missed you Sass and Get real, maybe we can get together under happier circumstances.

According to reports there will be a memorial service in L.A. and the SAG awards will pay tribute to Heath on Sunday.

I saw that gibson "apoligized",

And yes UV, the Ellen video did put a smile on my face.

I'm glad they are taking him home to Perth. While maybe Heath would really be bothered by all this fuss, I still think he deserves to know how loved and respected he is. He deserves all of this and more. So he'll just have to put up with it.
I read that the Independent Spirit Awards Program is trying to develop a special tribute to him. Their awards program takes place the day before Oscars.

You are welcome, UV. Like Sass and Chica I had to do it for all of us. Sass and Chica, sorry I missed you guys. :( Yes it would be nice to get together under better circumstances.

I still can't get over the heartbreaking tributes from Heath's family. Seems like there will be a memorial in LA tomorrow. Saw Heath's family on one of the entertainment shows at the LA airport today and they were taking Heath out of the funeral home here today. :'(

Leave it to Jake to make us smile on the Ellen tribute. So freaking adorable he is shaking his booty! ;p Love it.

sass said...

Evening again,
Heath was and is all about love and it's fitting that all of us mourn him and celebrate his life and love.

I can hardly breath sometimes thinking that I won't see him and his beautiful daughter walking down Broadway or Broome or Lafayette or Spring or Bleeker or anyplace anymore.

Sometimes I window shop in Soho, when I can, and sometmes my son and eat cheap there after we leave the Angelica Theater, one of my favorite theaters.
I remember when I went to see Heath in Candy at the Angelica Theater, hoping it would have a long enough run to be considered for the Oscar.

I can't imagine the pain his family and close friends are in.
I pray God will bless and keep them as they come here, on this sad journey to take care of their beloved son Heath and bring him home to be with them, to rest in heaven for an eternity.

sass said...

UV and FL I know there is a part of me that would like to hear from Jake, but I full understand and appreciate why I may not.

When I put things into perspective, there are people who are good friends of Heath, like Joaquim Phoenix, Russell Crowe, Orlando Bloom, Ben Harper and his wife Laura Dern, and others who haven't issued any statements and are probably just devastated.

He was friendly with Deepak Choprah. And he and Djimon Honsou parted good friends as well after working together.

Like Jake, Heath seemed to "collect" people as he journeyed though life. I know many people must be reeling from this. As Kate Hudson said, they are still "trying to process it."

Reports from Sundance are that Naomi Watts totally broke down upon hearing the news, cancelled appearances on behalf of her film, and left. Other reports, are that news of his death cast a huge pall of sadness over the proceedings at Sundance.

We "knew" him as fans. And we are grieving and heartsick. These people worked with him. Knew him socially, called him friend, and they are reeling too, still trying to process it, numb and shocked.

I hope I don't sound crazy (!) but it is comforting to me to know these people are feeling the pain of this loss so acutely.

I also feel comforted, as I begin to really appreciate how loved and respected Heath was to so many people from the waitstaff at the neighborhood restaurants in Brooklyn, to the tattoo artist who hung out with him sometimes, to Ang Lee. He was a beautiful, remarkable lovely young man.

I am so very glad some of "our" people had a chance to go down to Broome Street to pay respects.

FL said...

Please forgive this bit of indulgence, but I just ran across a Heath interview I'd never seen before. What struck me in this interview was the description of Heath by the director of Ned Kelly as gentle, kind and sensitive, while earlier in the interview, the writer himself calling Heath unfailingly polite.

I mention this because as I was chatting with UV last evening while watching 10 Things... for the 500th time, I noticed in his scenes with Julia Stiles, maybe for the first time, how he seemed to have a gentleness with her. UV and I agreed that "gentle" seems/seemed to fit him.

This interview below is loaded with bittersweet observations...of things that will sadly never come to pass.

As for us, we always felt it improbable— Jake Gyllenhaal in Noe Valley? Wrong, we tell you. Wrong! As our tipster, an RE insider, notes: "J.G. is notoriously private and security conscious. Strangely so, actually. So I'd be somewhat surprised that he would buy a house with no protection from the sidewalk and so forth. He lives in a heavily fortified estate in LA that he's wickedly weird about people knowing about." Yeah, see. We knew it. So who bought the place? Google Executives product managers Arielle Reinstein and Todd Jackson. Not as hott, but we guess they'll do.

"Guys,
I have been reading this blog and would have to disagree with the majority of the assessments above. First of all if you look at the statistics on the current California housing market you will see that San Francisco is one of only a handful of markets to maintain increasing values even during what has been termed the worst housing downturn since WWII. San Francisco, unlike many housing markets benefits from an already short supply combined with the inability to effectively increase that supply in the near future (much like NYC). Furthermore, the San Francisco housing market is bolstered by the tech industry itself not just a couple of companies. While some might not believe in the long term success of every company there will always be successful tech companies in Silicon valley which produce enough wealthy young home buyers to sustain the limited resource housing market of San Francisco. That being said, it doesn't even matter because I have inside knowledge that it is Jake Gyllenhaal who is the highest bidder on this house anyways, and I don't think he is too concerned with cash flow. No public memorial according to Heath's publist. From the NY Times:

Actor’s Body Is Leaving New York for Burial in Australia

Published: January 26, 2008

The body of the Australian-born actor Heath Ledger was taken from a Manhattan funeral home on Friday, and police officers who had been assigned to the funeral home said the body would be flown to Australia for burial.

Mr. Ledger, 28, was found dead in bed in his apartment on Tuesday. A bottle of prescription sleeping pills was nearby.

An autopsy on Wednesday was inconclusive, and the medical examiner’s office is awaiting the results of blood and tissue tests before announcing the cause of death.

About 100 fans, reporters and photographers spent hours on Friday waiting outside the funeral home, Frank E. Campbell, on Madison Avenue near 81st Street.

The police set up barricades there on Thursday and posted signs prohibiting parking on Friday along a two-block stretch of Madison Avenue around the funeral home.

Shortly before 4 p.m., a plain wooden box was loaded into a hearse, and the hearse pulled away. Officers who had been assigned to the funeral home said the box contained Mr. Ledger’s body.

There had been speculation that a service would be held in Los Angeles. But Mara Buxbaum, the publicist who had represented Mr. Ledger, wrote in an e-mail message, “There are no plans for a public service.”

The Santa Fe New Mexican is repeating the TZ story about Jake on the Brothers set. But what is more interesting is this:

Another reasons stars love Santa Fe: TMZ, the site that broke the news of Ledger's death, made a call to The New Mexican's photo staff to hire a photographer to look for Gyllenhaal in Santa Fe. No takers. And it's unlikely any of the media, at least local media, will be hightailing it out to the closed set to bother anyone, least of all a man who's mourning a friend. That's one of the intangible, nonmonetary benefits of making movies in New Mexico. We may enjoy the occasional breakfast sighting of a star, but folks here value privacy.

UltraViolet said...

Forgot to add how awful it is to think of them trying to get a photographer to stalk Jake basically. You knew they wold do it, but it's stark reading it in black and white like that.

UltraViolet said...

About all that real estate story. I saw all that earlier in the week, before Heath died. And it serves as a great illustration of how Ted C. gets his "insider info."

Basically, anyone can send him anything, and he'll print it as his own. No need to fact check or double check or gut check.

His "reporting" this week on Heath's death should make anyone who is a fan of Heath or BBM seriously question any allegiance they might have to him. Hes a scumbag, impure and simple.

I guess it was done very quietly to avoid a mess with demonstrators, paparazzi, etc.

Still. If you assume they would have notified his friends, and also had to secure a place to have it, and transfer Heath from the airport and back again, It's just amazing that all of it was done and no one on the outside noticed.

One more thing...

According to TMZ, investigators in the Heath Ledger case are saying that there wasn't enough drugs in Heath's system to have given him an overdose.

At this point, they are focusing on the possibility that Heath died "natural causes," most likely from a heart attack.

It's a lot more common than people realize. Like I wrote, I personally know of three people (from 29 to 36) who have had a heart attack (two of them died).

Anonymous said...

Of course I meant...

"Heath died OF 'natural causes.'"

Anonymous said...

what happened to my comment? I just posted a comment, and it has vanished!?!?!?!

Anonymous said...

Good early morning Sarah and Felicia:)

Thank you for the links to the blog, to Teresa's remarks, and to the conversation about the possible benign results of Heath's tox screen.

It's wonderful and makes my heart exceedingly happy, to know that Heath's memorial service was held with the love and dignity he and his family deserved.

I was made aware of TedC's written diatribe about Heath and did read some of it. What a Disgusting human being.

Like I was told in the missive, I received from a close Gyllenhaal family friend, TedC is small potatoes and as such not much more than an an irritant, almost non-existent to the families of those we care most about; Jake and Heath.

They know about him and they know the names of all the blogs who listen to and support his wild accusations about Jake, and now about Heath.

TedC is toxic; he's poison to all who contact him, and he will all ways be that way.

He's not worth the ground Heath walked on. Heath was the kindest, most honest gentle beautiful soul that ever lived. He loved his daughter above all else, and was in my estimation an awesome dad. I love how he dressed Matilda for their walkabouts in Soho and all over...such originality. I was never as creative with my son's dress. I will miss him so much.
I feel privileged to have had the honor of knowing him since 1999.

I was finally able to see Michael Clayton today. It's been re- released because of its' Oscar nomination. It is a Fantastic film. I was on the edge of my seat as were members of the audience.

And who did I see in the credits for cinematographer, but Jake's godfather and or /family friend Robert Elswit.

He is cinematographer on two Oscar nominated film this year, Michael Clayton andTWBB; maybe he'll win and Oscar this year.:)

PS
Look what just fell in my mailbox...Rock on Elswit!

Private Memorial for Heath Ledger Held in L.A.
UpdatePosted Sunday January 27, 2008 09:40 AM EST
Originally posted Sunday January 27, 2008 01:40 AM EST

An intimate memorial for Heath Ledger, attended by immediate family and close friends including former girlfriend Naomi Watts, was held in Los Angeles on Saturday night just hours after the actor's death was marked at a New York event.

A discreet 30-minute service was held at Westwood Village Memorial Park, Australia's Channel 7 reports, during which Watts was "visibly upset."

Around 8 p.m. that evening, a small gathering of black-dressed mourners, including the Australian actress, was seen in the lobby of the Beverly Hills Hotel for a private event, a source said. Ledger's rep had said that no public memorial was planned for Los Angeles.

Earlier, about 1,000 guests at an Australian event in New York heard a message from Ledger's father, Kim Ledger, read by Australia's consul-general, the Melbourne newspaper The Age reports.

"Heath did not become an actor for the fame or fortune. He loved his craft and he loved helping his friends. He loved chess and skateboarding too," said the letter read to guests at the G'Day USA Australia Day Ball in Manhattan. "My image of Heath in New York is him with his skateboard, a canvas bag and his beanie. That was Heath to me."

But mostly, Kim wrote, "Heath is and always will be an Australian."

Kim, Ledger's mother Sally and sister Kate were in Los Angeles on Saturday awaiting arrival of the actor's body from New York, The Age reports. Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment on Tuesday. A cause of death has not been determined.

According to several Australian news reports, a memorial and burial in Ledger's hometown of Perth are also expected.

The Los Angeles memorial was first reported by Entertainment Tonight.

From Newsweek:

Charisma As Natural As Gravity
By Christopher Nolan | NEWSWEEK
Feb 4, 2008 Issue |

Heath Ledger, 28, Actor

Best known for his haunting, Oscar-nominated performance as Ennis Del Mar, one of the gay cowboys in 2005 ' s "Brokeback Mountain," Ledger was a massive young talent on the cusp of greatness when he died last week in New York. The native Australian, who is survived by his 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, had recently finished work on this summer's "Batman" sequel, "The Dark Knight," in which he plays a villain, the Joker. Christopher Nolan, the film's director, shared these memories:

One night, as I'm standing on LaSalle Street in Chicago, trying to line up a shot for "The Dark Knight," a production assistant skateboards into my line of sight. Silently, I curse the moment that Heath first skated onto our set in full character makeup. I'd fretted about the reaction of Batman fans to a skateboarding Joker, but the actual result was a proliferation of skateboards among the younger crew members. If you'd asked those kids why they had chosen to bring their boards to work, they would have answered honestly that they didn't know. That's real charisma—as invisible and natural as gravity. That's what Heath had.

Heath was bursting with creativity. It was in his every gesture. He once told me that he liked to wait between jobs until he was creatively hungry. Until he needed it again. He brought that attitude to our set every day. There aren't many actors who can make you feel ashamed of how often you complain about doing the best job in the world. Heath was one of them.

One time he and another actor were shooting a complex scene. We had two days to shoot it, and at the end of the first day, they'd really found something and Heath was worried that he might not have it if we stopped. He wanted to carry on and finish. It's tough to ask the crew to work late when we all know there's plenty of time to finish the next day. But everyone seemed to understand that Heath had something special and that we had to capture it before it disappeared. Months later, I learned that as Heath left the set that night, he quietly thanked each crew member for working late. Quietly. Not trying to make a point, just grateful for the chance to create that they'd given him.

Those nights on the streets of Chicago were filled with stunts. These can be boring times for an actor, but Heath was fascinated, eagerly accepting our invitation to ride in the camera car as we chased vehicles through movie traffic—not just for the thrill ride, but to be a part of it. Of everything. He'd brought his laptop along in the car, and we had a high-speed screening of two of his works-in-progress: short films he'd made that were exciting and haunting. Their exuberance made me feel jaded and leaden. I've never felt as old as I did watching Heath explore his talents. That night I made him an offer—knowing he wouldn't take me up on it—that he should feel free to come by the set when he had a night off so he could see what we were up to.

When you get into the edit suite after shooting a movie, you feel a responsibility to an actor who has trusted you, and Heath gave us everything. As we started my cut, I would wonder about each take we chose, each trim we made. I would visualize the screening where we'd have to show him the finished film—sitting three or four rows behind him, watching the movements of his head for clues to what he was thinking about what we'd done with all that he'd given us. Now that screening will never be real. I see him every day in my edit suite. I study his face, his voice. And I miss him terribly.

Back on LaSalle Street, I turn to my assistant director and I tell him to clear the skateboarding kid out of my line of sight when I realize—it's Heath, woolly hat pulled low over his eyes, here on his night off to take me up on my offer. I can't help but smile.

UltraViolet said...

Extra, thank you so much for posting that! What a great tribute to Heath. It's so wonderful to hear about Heath's charisma and creativity. And so, so sad to think about that screening that will never be.

The pics are heartbreaking and some of the comments are as well. Why are people so nasty even in sad times??

I'm not sure I'll ever understand that, anon. This week has brought out the worst in a lit of people, but also the best, mercifully.

Unfortunately, I learned about the fragility of life when my stepdad died suddenly one night when I was 19 years old.
From that time on I lived my life with that concept. Even so, a death of a young talented father with a two year old beautiful daughter breaks my heart.

{{{ to Jake pics on X-17 with Reese and family}}}

You can see how sad he is... thank goodness he has Reese and her children to turn too for comfort and love. He loved Heath so much...he said more than once how drawn he was to Heath from the first and how well they worked together...a match made in heaven.
Jake credited Heath in so many interviews with the wonderful acting experience he had in BBM.

Sass, you always have a home here, you know that! I am also happy Jake has Reese and family around him.

A couple more pics of Jake, getting coffee, from yesterday.

now that I've looked at the J & R park pics again, I'm so struck by how "empty" they both look.... they both just look like shells of people. Don't have any idea how well Reese knew Heath, but, clearly, she is grieving as well.

In keeping with the unverified portion of our title, a rumor that Jake was at the service:

I heard a rumor from a friend in LA that attendees included R. Crowe and Jake G and a director friend of his ( i can't remember the name ) were there.

No idea if it's true or false.

Thanks for all the updates and info, UV. Thank you and FL for this blog. I just get so frustrated and angry at all the nastiness out there about Jake in these new pics and about why he hasn't made a comment yet. Yes it would be very nice but he doesn't owe anyone anything. Just leave the guy alone! I really appreciate that he has Reese as a support.

And thanks for the info about Jake possibly at the memorial. I had a feeling there was more actors/directors along with Naomi Watts.

(((Thanks everyone here)))

Watched the SAG Awards. Thank God for Daniel Day Lewis. What an incredibly moving tribute to Heath. He dedicated his award to Heath and then singled out his performances in Monster's Ball and Brokeback Mountain, particularly highlighting the final scene in the trailer with the shirts. Heath didn't belong in some "In Memoriam" segment! The way they seemed to tag him on at the very end seemed almost dismissive. Helooked so entirely out of place.

I just feel certain there were a number of actors, directors, etc at the service. It seems a lot of trouble to arrange, for just fifteen people. Some report that there were fifteen people at the hotel for supper following the service, including Naomi Watts.
I am so glad she and Heath remained close friends. She seems very sweet.

For some reason, today has not been a good day at all. Feeling very down.

I'm so messed up today. totally exhausted...
The Sags are done. They will be rebroadcast tonight from 1100-0100.

The SAGS are done.

Best Picture...No Country for Old men

Best Supporting Actor...Javier Bardem

Best Female actor...Julie Christie

Best Female Supporting Actor...Ruby Dee

Heath's picture was last in the series In Memoriam.

Daniel Day Lewis received the Best Actor award. He dedicated his actor to Heath Ledger. DDL is a kind and gentle man...shy too, I think.

His speech was so tender and sweet. He honored Heath and his work so wonderfully. I don't know how he did it, he was so emotionally fragile.

DDL talked about, how inspired he was as an actor, by Heath's work on Monster's Ball and BBM. He is deeply affected by our beloved Heath's death.

Please excuse any typos...exhausted.

I love you all and hold you in my heart forever.

I worry about Jake and love him so much. He is only eight years older than my boy. I guess that why I have such a strong mothering instinct towards him, when I am not checking out how hot he is.

I am so glad he has someone to hold and comfort him tonight while he mourns and grieves his dearest friend Heath.

sass said...

Forgot to tell you that Ryan Gosling and his sister wore black lapel ribbons to honor heath.

Daniel Day Lewis:

"As long as I can remember, the thing that gave me wonderment, a sense of renewal, the thing that teased me with the question, "How was such a thing possible?" and then, "Dare you go back into the arena one more time, with longing and self-doubt jostling in the balance" It's always been the work of other actors, and there were many actors in this room tonight including my fellow nominees who've given me that sense of regeneration and Heath Ledger gave it to me.

In Monster's Ball, that character that he created seemed to be almost like an unformed being retreating from himself, from his father, from his life... we wanted to follow him and yet we're scared to follow him almost, it was unique.

And then of course in Brokeback Mountain, he was unique, he was perfect. That scene in the trailer at the end of the film is as moving as anything I think I have ever seen and I'd like to dedicate this to Heath Ledger. Thank you very much."

Someone on DC Forum tivo'd DDL's remarks.

agent_krycek said...

Wow, amazing and heartfelt comments from DDL - perfect.

Jake and Reese do look so sad, I'm just so glad he's got her in his life right now. In similar vein to my comments about TC, those that choose to post such hateful and vicious comments should really take a good, long look at themselves, rather then spreading such vileness.

This is a great moment captured for YouTube. Montel Williams of the Montel show is a guest on Fox News to talk about Heath Ledger and his new book, but he throws Fox a curve by asking that they not talk about Heath Ledger and instead mention the Iraq War soldier who passed on the day before after being killed by a suicide bomber. Montel said that we've lost 28 American soldiers this year already -- that's more than one for each day of the month. Are we becoming too used to this? I'm not, but it seems Fox News is. Looking at those photos of Jake with Reese and the children, is it just me, or does anyone else think Jake seems to have particularly bonded with Ava, most photographs she seems to be walking with him and chatting, I realise that Deacon is still little and Reese probably wants him with 'grabbing before he goes running off' distance, but Ava just always looks really comfortable and relaxed beside Jake.

Sorry for wandering off topic, but the DDL speach made me tear up again, and I needed something happier to talk about right now.

It would help if they were a bit more specific. March or April?? They don't know? How odd.

It may be The Untitled Moon Project aka Giant Leap, they announced that before the writers strike and it's on his IMDB page.

It can't be the Joe Namath movie, no script. It could be that rumored Valentine Day movie he was rumored to be in talks with along with Reese, that script I think is finished.

I remember last year when they had a charity lunch auction for Jake's "next film" as they advertised and a bit later he was doing Rendition.

In this case they seem to know that he will be filming in CT!!

To continue the lighter note.....

Ran across this the other day on the LA Times forum that reports on all the new movie deals and developments. Anyway, I immediately thought that this would be a great Jake project (and okay, maybe Reese too?)..... I'd love to see Jake in a comedy, and working with Sam (Jarhead) Mendes again!

Sam Mendes shifts to comedy
Director to helm Eggers/Vida's 'Place'

By ADAM DAWTREY

Sam Mendes will next direct an untitled contemporary comedy for Focus Features in March.

The low-budget project, previously titled "This Must Be the Place," is based on an original screenplay by husband-and-wife team Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida, best known as novelists and magazine editors.

It follows a young couple's journey around the U.S. as they search for somewhere to put down roots and raise the baby they are expecting. No casting has yet been confirmed.

Pic is being produced by Ed Saxon and co-financed by Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf's Big Beach ("Little Miss Sunshine"). Mendes will get a producing credit through his own Neal Street Prods. Focus will co-finance and distribute worldwide.

This movie will be the first Mendes has made for a studio specialty division.

Mendes is finishing "Revolutionary Road" for DreamWorks, starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Pic is due for release at the end of 2008.

Mendes originally intended his next directing project to be his first British movie, an adaptation of George Eliot's 19th century masterpiece "Middlemarch," which Andrew Davies is writing for Neal Street.

But after so much heavy-duty drama, Mendes decided instead that it was time to flex his comedic muscles with "This Must Be the Place."

Eggers wrote the novel "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" and runs the publishing house McSweeney's. Vida edits the magazine "The Believer" and has written novels including "Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name."

Austin doesn't live in Brentwood. But this is the new one from OMG. This is meant to explain why Jake is in Brentwood so much. Since these people are completely delusional and won't accept facts --- the obvious one being that Jake's girlfriend of one year Reese Witherspoon lives there --- they have to invent a new reality to correspond with their delusions.

Drink much kool-aid?

There speculation is beyond ridiculous. If they beleive that the relationship between Jake and Reese is fake and he is bearding, then he sure the hell wouldn't be visiting his "friend" in the same neck of the woods! Do they realize how ridiculous they sound?

They have been pushing this off and on since last April when it was reported that Jake and Reese were dating and they were seen driving to and from Brentwood, then all of a sudden he lives there too!!

Take it back to your blog, if you actually believed that crap, you wouldn't be posting here.

They have no respect for Jake nor Reese. Just anger and hatred.

They are angry because Jake hasn't made any public comments about Heath.

He emerges at the end of the week with Reese and the kids and they finally have lost what little of their minds they had left.

Instead of honoring Heath, respecting Jake and his private grief and at least have some comfort knowing that Jake is with the woman he loves and her kids, his family IMO.

No, they smear, lie spin and spew such hateful venom that it's hard to believe we are dealing with adults, pathetic beyond belief.

agent_krycek said...

After all, when was the last time there was even a credible report of Jake and Austin being in the same room?

It's coming up to nearly a year now, and yet still it persists, you really think they'd find something else to do after all this time, take up knitting, learn another language or something slightly more useful.

I wonder if the Conneticut thing is linked to UMP and was arranged before the writer's strike became so long running and started seriously delaying things maybe

UltraViolet said...

Okay, folks - we allowed the troll post to stand, and everyone's had a good vent. We all know that their "arguments" make no sense and do not stand up to scrutiny.

I had assumed I was beyond surprise at the things some people will say and do in order to denigrate Jake and perpetuate their own agenda. But in the wake of Heath's death, I was and am shocked by the callousness displayed. In accusing Jake of being heartless, they reveal their own lack of compassion. In accusing Jake of selfishness, they prove only their own.

It's hard to read, and even more annoying when it's brought here. But let's not get bogged down in it. Let's end it now.

I really hope all these posts get erased. I understand why the authors of this blog don't want these things mentioned. Because it goes around in circles and circles. We don't believe he is gay. The other blogs think, rather dumbfoundingly, that he is.

These two points are just irreconsilable.

In the past week I have discovered exactly where all the nasty posts come from. I recognize many of the names there from around the web and have noticed a good deal of talk about this site and other well known defenders of Jake (ie myself).

Personally, I think all the hate they throw is proof that deep down they know what the truth is. Otherwise, there would be no need to be so nasty.

These people are weird and paranoid. They remind me of some sadistic cult or something. Strange.

That said...

I'm beginning to think the Moon Project is further along than I first suspected. I remember hearing that the project was given a "fast track" and that the director had been working on the script for a while. So I think if it wasn't done, it was pretty close to being done.

With the strike almost over, it's a good bet that we'll hear more about it soon.

Also, I think Jake is finished his part in Brothers. This officially the last week of filming. He was suppose to finish his parts one week before the others. But maybe he was given the end of last week off and they rescheduled his parts for this week. Either way, this is the end of Brothers.

Anonymous said...

Thanks UV - it is beyond me why someone would use Heath tragic death for spreading hate towards Jake.
Sometimes I am trying to imagine what Heath, this shy and very private guy would think of all the buzz, articles, TV documentations about him....He would surely like the respect for his work, especially from his actor colleagues.
Good to know that he is on his way home and will rest in peace.

IMO JP is right that "The moon project" will be Jakes next film. It is the one project that Jake himself has confirmed."Brothers" is scheduled to finish filming on January 30. Perhaps we will get some more information during the next weeks. Doug Limans film "Jumper" will be out soon (Febr. 15), PR is over then and he has also the time to concentrate and work on his next project....

Anonymous said...

I think the Moon project will come out in the summer of 2009 (someone correct me if i'm wrong), making it a bigtime summer blockbuster type of film.

I'm assuming there will be special effects in this film (duh, Jeff), and that may require extra time in post-production. So the timing corresponds with Jake filming in March/April.

But still, the Conneticut location strikes me as kind of weird. I think I need to get to the bottom of this.

Stay tuned...

Anonymous said...

UV, yes thank you for that comment. I could not agree more. It is beyond me too, Gabbana. Jake has done nothing and his friend has died and this hatred spewing makes me sick to my stomach. Like this all isn't painful enough losing Heath but his friend, Jake, who we all love is attacked. Disgusting. Won't say anymore on the subject...

I really can't wait to see Brothers. I love Jake and Natalie and I really like Tobey. Plus it has a great director.

JP, I wonder about the Moon Movie too. Has the script been completed? And I do wonder about it being filmed in CT. I feel like they will have different shooting locations if it is as big a movie as I think. Will have to wait and see.

Anonymous said...

Keep is positive and don't engage, that's how to deal with all the recent blogs about Jake. Some are posting just looking for a fight, if you engage the topic will not end.

About filming in CT, here is an article about movies filming in the state. I'm pretty sure states like New Mexico & CT are working hard to have movies filmed in their state by offering studios tax breaks to film there. So instead of filming in Canada these states are working to keep the jobs in the US.

Filming In Connecticut Leads To Production Crew Issues
POSTED: 10:12 am EDT October 10, 2007
UPDATED: 10:21 am EDT October 10, 2007

Recent tax breaks have led to several movies being filmed in at least a dozen cities across Connecticut.
Connecticut's film tax credit has been so successful in luring moviemakers and famous faces that now there aren't enough production crews to do the work.
With that in mind, a committee of legislators, educators, union leaders and film industry professionals gathered at the capital Wednesday to try to script a solution.
They've dubbed themselves Hollywood East and their goal is to establish a solid work force made up of those who live in Connecticut.
In recent months there have been many celebrity spottings in Connecticut. There was filming for an "Indiana Jones" movie in New Haven and Leonardo DiCaprio shot scenes for one of his upcoming films in Thomaston.
The Hollywood East group strives not only to improve the work force but also to expand academic opportunities for an even bigger homegrown work force in the future.
In the next 100 days, Hollywood East is expected to make recommendations on how to create the training programs necessary to insure the jobs stay in CT.

Thanks Anon 12:28 PM, very interesting stuff - although I'll continue to hold out hope that, if special effects are involved in the Moon Project, they might just be filmed in the UK, London to be more precise - well, right outside my office or house to be properly accurate ;) (and his space suit is made of spandex - that's another requirement)

After being accused of being a PR person for Jake & Reese the other day - after pointing out the ridiculouslness of a particular post (If I am, why has noone told me, and why on earth am I busting my butt selling houses in North London) I refuse to take any of them seriously, they are ridiculous and look more and more so every day.

We Babblers who love Jake and accept him as he is, and accept his new love Reese, have no need to plot and plan, or wish and hope, for Jake and any one's picture to be published , as proof of a relationship; or for more of the same lame sad rumors to be published ad adnauseum by gossip persons intent on proving their worth to the world.
The old purveyors of gossip have lost their positions forever, never to regain past stature?? in this new world of Internet gossip blogging.
We can plainly see everywhere, that Jake has chosen Reese to be by his side now and for the foreseeable future.

We have had knowledge of her presence in his life since last March from various LA gossip blogs and forums, and from October after Reese's divorce when the divorce became final and they began to publicly date.

Most of us understand Hollywood PR machinations, but Babblers and most of the world consider this couple real, even as other disillusioned people publish dates of their imminent demise. They will split up after the Rendition Junket, or after Rendition DVD is released, or for sure after Valentine's Day.

And when has Jake ever had a fly-by- night relationship?

His last love announced to the world in 2004, that she was through with him, and then proceeded to tell us why; her career and her need to party hardy, "I'm a go out a night girl, he is a stay home at night boy."

We got the message, and still they were papped mid-summer 2005 in deep poolside PDA, a fun activity of lovers, which I've noticed Jake thoroughly enjoys when he is in love. Yep, His current love is not the first woman he's been affectionate with in public.

I suspect and hope Jake is in love with Reese Witherspoon.
Perhaps that's why Babblers aren't angry or full of hate for Jake and his love and her family and their dogs.

We have no need of anger, and vicious long winded diatribes; we are comfortable in our knowledge of what is Real
If sometimes we--me included--become upset and attempt, unsuccessfully, to talk sense to others who wish to propagate a non-existent relationship into one of substance, it's because of our love for Jake and our heart struck pain when we come across the hateful mutterings of the angry ones.

Wes Bentley worked with Heath in Four Feathers. He was having personal difficulties and asked Heath to help him out by accepting the part in Monster's Ball. Apparently, through all Wes's problems and difficulties over the years since, he and Heath remained friends. It's pretty clear, Wes really admires him. He issued a very moving statement that was featured on the Heath Ledger Memorial Blog.

http://heathledgermemorialblog.blogspot.com/

I thought you all might like to read it.

I've got something to say since everyone is talking about this and I seem to be the only one, surprisingly so, not talking about all these negative remarks.

Here's the thing. I think they finally get it. I think they finally realize that Jake and Reese are, in fact, a couple. It was something about all the sightings, including another picture with him and her kids, this week that did it, in my opinion. It just can't reasonably be denied anymore.

I've noticed this on a couple of blogs these past two days. Read what they are writing carefully. They aren't denying Jake and Reese are together anymore...

They are just MAD about it now.

On another anti-Reese blog today, there were two regular posters who even took shots at Ted Casablanca and mentioned that the reason he sent them a personal email regarding a question regarding Toothy Tile, was probably because he has been inundated with demands to reveal who he is. They called Ted C. a fake, and he is "covered in this mess he dug himself into." Many of them surprisingly even refered to Reese as Jake's girlfriend.

You see? They've even stopped making ridiculous statements like their management company is responsible for all the sightings of them, etc.

The only thing is that they seem to hate Jake all of a sudden. They are using this Heath thing as an excuse to crucify him. They don't know if Jake has spoken with Michelle and/or attended the LA memorial service, and given their track record with ridiculous theories I don't think it even matters.

They just realize he's straight now and they hate him for it.

After all, how many photographs and sightings can these people deny without looking totally kooky?

What's the step after anger in the "grieving process?" We know they've been stuck in denial for a while, lol. Now they seem to have moved on to "anger." I wonder when they'll move on to "acceptance?"

JP.

P.S. I can't believe how famous I am with those freaks. They all seem to know me, and yet I don't know any of them. Go figure.
