Jake Gyllenhaal has been dubbed the "Sexiest Farmer Alive" by the people at Fashion Week Daily.
We know you're probably here because we're a fashion blog, but today we've got an EXCLUSIVE! Actor/Hottie/Farmer Jake Gyllenhaal chats...vegetables! Take that, Entertainment Weekly! Eat your heart out, Bon Appétit! Last night, designer Lela Rose hosted a swanky $1000-a-seat dinner party at her gorge Tribeca mecca to support Edible Schoolyard, which encourages kids to eat healthier and change their food habits. The most perfect man alive (the aforementioned JG) was a special guest, and we grabbed him for a quick chat pre-dinner to discuss veggies, farmers and besties.
It's a pleasure meeting you. You're one of our favorite actors in the world.
That's very nice of you!
[Chic sighs....catches breath] Tell us about your involvement with the Edible Schoolyard.
I've been involved with them for a couple of years. I'm titled by Alice Waters, the ambassador of the school yard. I got involved because the dinner table was always a place, since I was a young child, where we got to get together, and I actually got to know my family there more than any other place in the world. I grew up growing my own food in our family garden. One of my best friends is a farmer. It's been a primary focus of my life.
We love food!
I didn't realize that I grew up in the slow food movement. I see children who didn't know any of these things—that they can grow their own food and learn about vegetables when they are at a primary level. It was everything to me, so I wanted to be involved. Since knowing about this organization, I've done everything I can.
What's your favorite vegetable?
I'd say right now, after an extensive search over the years and living the wonderful life that I've had so far, and after tasting many, many vegetables...cavolo nero. It's like a really soft kale. You can eat it any form: cooked, raw...
We trust anything you say. Let's backtrack...How do you know a farmer?
I was raised in Los Angeles, but I spent my summers, since I was born, in Martha's Vineyard. My best friend, since we were little kids, lives there, and he's a farmer. His whole family farms. I know it might seem odd, but it's what I love more than anything. Being in gardens have been some of the most wonderful times of my life. Washing lettuce and watching things grow...you feel connected to the world. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything that connects you to the universe in the same way that planting a seed does.
That's so sweet! And now you've got a beard like a real farmer.
Seeds of growth!
You can read more about the party here.

Car Talk
The sex scene between Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway has made this site's list of Top 50 Car Sex Scenes, coming in at #42.
Note: The site and the pictures can be NSFW; the commentary is not safe for thinking. And Jake is not the primary attraction for them. But he is for us!
Anne and Jake also enjoyed some auto erotica in a deleted scene from Love & Other Drugs:
Wish that one had gone on a little longer :)
Jake and Jennifer Aniston spent some front and backseat time in The Good Girl, though it wasn't R-rated:
Jake's also had some sexy photo shoots in cars:

"He's a star in the world."
Actress Beth Grant was the guest of honor this week at a Meet The Lady. In an interview preceding the event, she spoke about Jake Gyllenhaal:
You and Patrick Swayze had already been close well before Donnie Darko. Was this your last project together?
We saw each other afterward a few times on a personal level, but that was our last work together. That was so perfect. It was not just that Jake Gyllenhaal was doing the part, whom I'd been in love with since he was three years old. The first time I saw Jake he was running across my in-laws' back lawn to the pool, because he was best friends with my twin nieces, and I remember turning to my sister in law and asking, "Who is that beautiful child?" He just was magical, always, so generous and open. I remember the sixth grade show they had at the end of the year. There he was, this sixth grade boy, and he stood up and sang "The Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera. What a song for an eleven year old! I thought, this kid is a star. Whether or not he's going to be a movie star, who knows, but he's a star in the world, because he's luminous.
Don't you wish you had a video tape of that?
We do have it on video! My in-laws have it. It's just crazy, we looked at it one Thanksgiving, still before he became a star, and I thought it all over again. So, for me to be acting with him — and also with Buddy [Swayze], who in many ways was a hero of mine, because he'd been the first person from our acting class who'd really made it, and who'd been a big influence in teaching me to love and accept myself as a character actress — the role became kind of true to life. It was a magical experience doing that film, it really was.
Two words, Beth: YouTube. Or is that considered one word?
(That photo is in desperate need of a caption!)
I also ran across this old interview with Jolene Purdy, who played Cherita in DD. She also has nice words about Jake:
J-14: What has it been like to work with such costars, like Jake Gyllenhaal, Tony Oller, and Ryan Rottman?
Jolene: Jake Gyllenhaal is such a nice guy. When I wrapped [Donnie Darko], he said some really nice things to me like, "You should be happy with the work that you've done on this film. Think about the people that are bullied and how they're going to relate to you. A bully sitting in the movie theater watching will think, 'Gee, this is really how I make someone feel?'"
Someone who attended the NYFF showing of The Descendants grabbed these shots of Jake and friend before the show:
She said they were "adorable."

Family movies
Jake Gyllenhaal attended a New York Film Festival screening of The Descendants, George Clooney's new family drama.
I found these Gyllenhaal family videos from the premiere of Losing Isaiah in 1995. You can glimpse Jake in the background of the interview clip. Sadly, the photographer shooting the family didn't have the foresight to get Jake in most of the shots!

Saturday Night Special
In an interview, former Saturday Night Live star Will Forte listed Jake as one of his favorite guests on the show:
Q: After working on SNL for 8 seasons, which guest hosts did you enjoy working with the most?
A: Through 8 seasons, there were a lot of guest hosts I had the honor of working with. I would have to say Will Ferrell, Jake Gyllenhall, Jack Black, Josh Brolin, and, of course, Alec Baldwin.
That seemed like a good reason for a look back. And it is Saturday.
The ads got us excited for the show. But nothing could have prepared us for the monologue. SNL musical director Katreese Barns talked about Jake's performance:
Do you have a favorite part of the process?
Saturday night, when the sketches come together, can be really magical. Like when Jake Gyllenhaal performed his version of the "Dreamgirls" song - that was a really rewarding moment for me. It was a Thursday night when he had the idea to sing the song, and they called me down to rehearse with him. On Friday, we brought in some backup singers, and he started gaining more confidence, and then by Saturday night he blew me away.
It wasn't all singing. There was dancing, too!
And we can't forget the Bronx Beat:
Or all those little extras:
The Washington Post named Jake one of the "Most Surprisingly Funny SNL Hosts." Clearly, they haven't paid attention to Jake's interviews.
Jake has also appeared two other times. In September, 2007, he had a cameo in a now classic Digital Short:
And in the spring of this year, Jake was a surprise guest on Weekend Update:
Wonder when we'll see him next at 30 Rock?

"This is sex in the city"
Yup, that's Jake Gyllenhaal at a party for Sex and the City in 1999. He's pictured with Kristen Davis, one of the SatC stars, as well as Marcia Cross. Maybe they were planning a crossover episode with Desperate Housewives.
Jake's Prince of Persia battled it out with the SatC movie sequel on the Memorial Day weekend last year. Carrie and company eked out a win over PoP in the U.S. But Dastan was the worldwide victor.
He's definitely sexier!
Just because she's a desperate housewife and because it's a pretty picture, he's Jake with Felicity Huffman (and William H. Macy) in Hawaii:

Old friends
Sunday night saw the premiere of My Week With Marilyn, starring Michelle Williams as the Hollywood legend. Jake Gyllenhaal was in attendance, in support of his friend and former costar. Williams wore Christian Dior, while Jake sported his new favorite designer, CZNY.

Do glasses make the man?
We've finally gotten our first real glimpse of a bespectacled Jake Gyllenhaal and he doesn't look too happy about it.
A little happier - with the family:
If those photos hadn't been released, we would have had to make do with this pic of Jake from the Boffo party last week.
It's the world's most awkward photo bomb. It also looks photoshopped, but it's real. Jake has clearly found his NYC CZ clothing style.
Jake was also spotted jogging:

So jake gyllenhaal came to my school today...
Jake Gyllenhaal spoke to students at LaGuardia Arts, a New York City public high school specializing in performing arts. No photos have made it out yet. But a few students did post about the experience. (Random photos interspersed to keep your attention.)
so jake gyllenhaal came to my school today...
he came to talk to the drama majors, but me and my friend really wanted to see him, but we are art majors. so we went to the basements, and were like behind the stage where he was, but some random kind man was like “just go upstairs to the theater”, so we did.
we are standing outside the doors, with one opened only a crack so we could see through and take pictures and shit. then the door opens and the principal (who ive seen 3 times on 4 years!) just happens to come out! but she was cool, and was like “go in, sit in the back, and be quiet” so we did.
he was so marvellous. he had on green cargo pants, with a hole above the knee, and a white t-shirt. his stuffed bookbag was on the floor next to him. on his little table there was a full, un-opened jug of orange juice. he answered questions, and made jokes and told all these wonderful little anecdotes about actors he knows. oh, he was just too good.
also he said his only goal in acting was for people to be able to pronounce “gyllenhaal” correctly.
So...I met Jake Gyllenhaal today.
It was quite an experience. He came to my school to talk to the Senior Drama Majors. Lucky for me, I just so happen to be one. He was SO incredible. He was so funny and so insightful and so down-to-earth and just so KL;ASDFJ;LKCAS;JKLJKL;S;ADSF! He talked a lot about his work and the choices he’s made and gave us tons of advice for the future. Also, as Brokeback Mountain is one of my favorite movies of all time, I FREAKED whenever he talked about it. I feel that my obsession with that movie is even more complete now! I also got picked on to ask him a question, so I asked him about what it was like working with actors he had previously worked with or known (i.e. Anne Hathaway, Maggie Gyllenhaal). He said it was really difficult to try and shut out his feelings and ideas of the other actor, but regardless he always had immense respect for them and try to give it all he could. He also added that Anne Hathaway came to her Brokeback Mountain audition in her Princess Diaries gown (she had been shooting earlier that day)! He shared lots of little things like that. I just can’t get over how amazing it all was.
However, over the course of the 2 hours he was there, I did have a bit of a difficult time ignoring the overwhelming desire to take him home with me and love him forever.
Anytime you’re ready, Jake.
Also, just btw, I met Jake Gyllenhaal today with my drama class at LaG. He came to speak to us and answer questions. He was down-to-earth, funny, and generally awesome and I loved him as much as I thought I would. He is a beautiful human being and I told him so and I got to shake his hand.
It was amazing.
Jake Gyllenhaal came to my school today ! I jumped on his back for a photo
That happens to Jake a lot.
(Thanks to the tumblr posters who reported on the experience.)

Bad news, good news
Today, the Washington Post ran a sad story about the hole over the Arctic. They showed the scene above, taken during a 2005 visit by Jake Gyllenhaal and Salma Hayek to the Arctic village of Iqaluit. The actors were there to bring attention to the problem of global warming. Despite warnings from scientists and environmentalists, disaster still looms. The sad state of the environment did lead to something positive however. I discovered these wonderful pictures of Jake on a website for a company involved in the project.
I also found a brief clip of Jake and Salma, from the movie Everything's Cool, a documentary about global warming:
I don't think the movie got very good reviews. Has anyone seen the whole thing?
