Retro Jake

As Jake Gyllenhaal prepares to wrap End of Watch, here's another retrospective of his career:

Love the October Sky shots and the Brokeback Mountain interview snippets from Venice. A reminder of how beautiful Jake looked in the movie and the promotion.

There have been a lot of Jake videos popping up, not sure why. If you missed this one from last week, it's worth a look:

Back to the present - a shot of Jake on the EoW set today:

I'll fix those photos tomorrow. Just click on the set pic to get the full shot. Looks like Jake is in his dress blues and wearing a black ribbon over his badge.

Here's what the tweeter said:

Still dreamy with a shaved head & he's been smiling on set all day. My eggs are cookin'. #JakeGyllenhunk

This new retrospective was almost perfect.
When we have a Bluray or DVD with 8 hours of extras of Brokeback Mountain? On the anniversary of 20 years?

Anonymous said...

as I said I couldn't believe it's been 5 weeks already. Time sure flies. So I guess they are finishing things in Las Vegas. I can't help wondering what is next for Jake? Is he going to look into directing rolls?

Thanks UV for the vids

Thanks for the trip down memory lane UV.

Hope we hear soon about Jakes next project I dont want to see him idle too long.

I wonder if Michael Penas character is killed with theblack ribbon on Jakes badge?

Loved the videos! He's a beautiful young man. Still. : )

monica, I wonder about the extra footage from BBM, too. No matter what Ang Lee said, I know there has to be something. Watching the Aussie video, I think there might be even more Rendition footage than the deleted scenes on the DVD, as well. But I don't think there'll be any "anniversary edition" for it. Poor movie. And it's a very good movie.

I'm anxious to know what's next after EOW, too. : (

Chica said...

The first video was a really good retrospective of Jake's career, except they forgot to mention Moonlight Mile and Brothers!

There has to be extra footage from BBM, I find it hard to believe that there isn't.

Thanks so much for these videos, loved re-visiting some of the clips and interviews of Jake.

I was always disappointed that there wasn't more on the BBM DVD:(

We should be getting tweets/sightings of Jake in LV soon!

UltraViolet said...

This shoot has gone quickly. But we've gotten much more coverage of it and many more tweets/posts about it than I thought we would. It's been nice.

Speaking of time flying... it is fascinating to see Jake's career evolution. And they really did a nice job with this clip. Lots of gorgeous shots.

That BS about there not being extra footage or deleted scenes from BBM is so frustrating. They should release all of it. Maybe for the 10th anniversary?

Anonymous said...

maybe there will be a 'found' BBM footage like they found the 'lost' Honeymooner eps.

I'd like to see some of those deleted scenes or extra scenes.

It's such a special movie to so many, for me I'd like very special care taken of it an its integrity. And I don't think that would be spoiled if we fans see the extra stuff

Lily

UltraViolet said...

Agreed - it should be done right. Nothing slipshod. But it's bogus for them to claim that it would interfere with Ang's artistic license to reveal the extra footage.

Lots of chatter about Anne Hathaway being asked to join Les Miserables. I wonder if Jake is too old to play Marius? Marius is a bit of a wimpy part in places, but I'd love to hear Jake sing some of the songs.

I'm not musically inclined, so I don't know if Jake has the right voice for the part.

UltraViolet said...

Anne wouldn't be playing Cosette, btw. She'd be playing Fantine, the part originally played (I think) by Patti Lupone.

UltraViolet said...

A quick look at the actresses they are casting for Cosette makes me think Jake would be too old. Which he is, really. A pity.

Cool post about SC opening in China.

Office of Nancy Pelosi said...

Thanks for the trip down memory lane UV, they did an excellent job of showing the diversity of Jake's roles and how he grew as an actor over the years.

How does releasing deleted footage would interfere with Lee's artistic license? I would think he would be involved in any future blueray or DVD release of missing BBM footage?

The EOW shoot was quick, but as you said UV we sure were kept up to date on the shoot!

I think Jake is a bit too old to play Marius, Anne may finally get to do a musical, I wonder what happened to that Judy Garland bio she was supposed to do.

I would love for Jake to do a musical, The Damn Yankee movie seems to dead.

Office of Nancy Pelosi said...

Thanks for that link about SC opening in China today UV! I had know China had a limit on the amount of foreign films released there.

Jesse is an amazing fan!

UltraViolet said...

Maybe Jake can play the rebel leader. He has one great song, I think, and is older than Marius. Probably not, lol.

I thought I remembered some quote from James Schamus about Ang thinking the movie was exactly as he wanted it. So we had no need to see anything he didn't include. Just poppycock!

I hope SC does well in China. And way to go, Jessie. Superfan.

Love the retro on Jake video was pretty much near perfect, the glimpse of a very young Jake from OS, he looked about 12!

Jake has done a good job in selecting roles over the years, even though some critics would beg to differ.

Jake has been linked to several musicals over the years including Rock of ages and Damn Yankees, hopefully he will get ti do one soon!

I don't see how adding deleted scenes to a DVD would effect BBM, it's not like they would edit the deleted scenes back into the film!

Loving all the EOW Jake tweets, looks like we are finally getting some decent Jake tweets again:)

The story about Jesse and Moon/SC shows the real power of online fandom!

UltraViolet said...

Aww, apparently RDJ and wife are having a baby. Congrats.

Reviews for The Ides of March are coming in. Good but not great. Some praise for Gosling, some say he doesn't quite take hold of the role.

It all still makes me wistful.

I read some of the reviews of Isles of March too, they are mixed. Makes you think what Jake could have done with Gosling's role.

Congrats to Robert and his wife!

UltraViolet said...

Chica, it definitely make me sigh to read that RG didnt quite capture the character. I wish Jake had gotten to take his swing at it. Another tweeter saw Jake getting coffee. And apparently tonight is the wrap party:

Heading to the End of Watch wrap party! It's going to be a powerful film! Check it out:

I was just going to post those tweets, thanks!

EOW wrapped in L.A. but he will be filming in LV according to the tweets.

I would have loved for Jake to have been in Idles of March, I remember how excited everyone was when he was attached to it.

UltraViolet said...

Yeah, somehow it went from Jake doing a reading to not even doing the play, and then mot getting the movie. I always tell myself it's worse for Chies Pine, who actually did the play.

Sigh.

According to Ben Lyons, the movie will be released next fall, Lily.

More tweets from the wrap party:

Jake gyllenhall winked at me #wet

I really love when paparazzi have to be all up in the mix and I can't get my vat from the damn valet #whitegirlproblems

I'm at a stupid wrap party :( I'll be done in like an hour

Hot guy from eastbound and down is here. "I'm westbound and down"

Jake gyllenhall totally wants me though... Didn't pretend to not know his sexy ass

Totally pretended I didn't know who America Ferrera was, even though I've seen sisterhood of the traveling pants eighty times

Wonder if the paps got Jake, if they were really there.

bobbyanna said...

I watched SC again last night(!) and I was just thinking. Jake would have absolutely nailed the role in Ides. I've seen several RyanG movies, and he and Jake just don't seem to project the same kind of energy level, IMO. That's not a criticism. He is just a different style actor. Yes, I remember reading about Chris Pine doing the play in Pasadena, UV. It had to be a bitter pill for him.

Congrats to Robert Downey, Jr. and his wife!

Anonymous said...

Thanks, UV. I can't wait to see this movie. Maybe this will be the stepping stone to Jake directing. He certainly learned a lot doing camera shots.

Lily

UltraViolet said...

It will be interesting to see what Jake will do next. He didn't seem all that eager to jump into directing, more like a future shot. But he does surprise us.

Cute account of someone seeing Jake at Urth.

Monica said...

It was a surprise to read the reviews on The Ides of March.

UV, next year Chris Pine will release one of the most anticipated films of 2012: This Means War, where he and Tom Hardy destroy New York City with Reese's chin. It will be epic!

Office of Nancy Pelosi said...

Jake and Ryan are two different types of actors so it would be interesting to have seen what Jake would have done with the role.

I forgot that Pines did the play in L.A.

Love the after party tweets, if the paps were there, we will be sure to see the photos.

What a cut story UV, I admire her for playing it so cool!

Jakes been called a lot of things but vain is a new one.

UltraViolet said...

I always love it when anons post such helpful links. So thoughtful.

bobbyanna said...

Agree, UV, and I always hate the "anonymous sources" who criticize Jake with vague references to imaginary character flaws.

I doubt seriously if his name ever came up in this CAA contrived "lunch." This is another invention. Something to sell magazines.

It follows a familiar pattern. There really isn't anything to publically rebut. I'd bet Reese has moved passed all this, as she continues to create her new reality.

Maybe one of Taylor's "friends"
( her thwarted PR team) is still bruised about their aborted attempt to make Jake her Tabloid Special of the month.

I don't read this garbage, "Anon."
Who ever said it. is so far out of touch with reality it's laughable.

Extra said...

I see the interns are busy @Us Weekly, it must be fun making up shit based on a few pics and sightings.

Monica said...

I read about this last night and I was angry, but at the same time remember that it was Jake that put himself in this situation.

Chica said...

If I remember correctly, Taylor and Reese knew each other before Taylor had those few dates with Jake.

They make it seem like they just "met", I remember Reese taking Ava to Taylor's concerts while shewas still with Jake plus they both have homes in Nashville.

More BS from the rags like how she just met her current husband Toth but in reality she has known him since she was married to Ryan, Toth was her agents gofer for years at CAA .

Monica said...

Chris Fischer is bald!!

I wonder if Jake will attend Chilmark Road Race this year!

Anonymous said...

Reese has only been at CAA since Feb of 2007.

http://www.filmsy.com/news/reese-witherspoon-fires-endeavor-hollywood-agents/

Jim Toth has been at CAA all along. I don't think there is any evidence that she knew Toth back when she was with Ryan or that he had been in her circle that long. Certainly she must have known him while she was dating Jake though.

Viv said...

Don't care about the two women. Jake has moved on and looks really relaxed and happy recently. This all I care about. LOL

Waiting Jake's next step. :)

I agree with you, Viv. But it's annoying to see these stories coming.
And will going back with the music that Taylor Zzzzwift wrote about him. It will be a shame.

Regarding the US weekly article about Reese and Taylor trasing Jake and callinfhim vain they said it is all false they said his name did come up but nothing bad was said their just trying to sell their mag with those stories.
