New PoP photos/NY Times Performers of the Year

Update: Jake and Tobey Maguire were photographed for the NY Times Magazine's 7th annual Great Performers in Film, for Brothers:

Thanks to Carla for the heads-up.

Found a new still of Jake Gyllenhaal from Prince of Persia, as well as three set pictures:

Jake looks interested in the first picture with Jerry but on the second, I think he's ready to move on!

I think a couple of these shots (the second and fourth) are from videos we've seen but I hadn't seen the stills before.

In case you missed it from the last post, Jake appears in a video done for the New York Times, discussing the performances of the decade.

A brief description of Jake's Source Code character from the man himself:

Gyllenhaal recently told ComingSoon.net exclusively that "'Source Code' is a kind of sci-fi thriller based in different time continuums. I play Colter Stevens and he's a helicopter pilot who finds himself in a very unlikely and disoriented situation."

According to previous reports, Stevens is part of an experimental government program to investigate a terrorist incident who finds himself in the body of an unknown commuter living and reliving a harrowing train bombing until he can find out who is responsible for it.

So much news and excitement lately on the Jake front....:-)

I don´t take some of the choices for "Best of the decade" too seriously. (Eddie Murphy in "The Nutty professor"?- Worthington must be on drugs....) I remember Jake saying that he would have loved to play the role of Ryan Gosling in "Half Nelson".

And I agree, UV I have always thought that Jakes and Heath work in BBM were equally excellent.

From the NY Times magazine:

Jake and Tobey

Some of the photos are too intentionally artsy but most are great IMO.

He looks so yummy in these pics, and he does look ready to move on in the second one, ha, ha!

Love Jake in b&w. Watched the video and read the comments on the previous thread. The question regarding the best performance of the decade is tough and certainly subjective, obviously just their opinion.

The pics from the Pop junket looks realy cool!

Looks like LOAD is having screenings already:

Contrary to popular critical belief, I don't think you can say Heath as Ennis was the performance of the decade without saying that Jake as Jack was, as well. Jake's BBM performance was equal to, if not superior to Heath's, IMO.

I agree.

Jake looks delicious as the Prince. ;)

I also agree - they both were equally great, each character stands on its own. I also have a place in my heart for The Joker as one of the best performances of the decade. Heath imbued him with so much, made him more than a two-dimensional comic book character, gave him soul.

But it's true there are so many, many great performances over a ten year span, it's hard to pick only one.

Jake does look delish, I really can't wait for this film. I'm loving the story idea more and more. I think it will have something for everyone - I'll see the romantic time period and sets, and story of Tamina and Dastan, and also Danstan's history, and action - others will love the action and relationship to the game. :)

Great site from NY Times!

Totally agree with you UV.

Thanks for the Pop Pics and the Black and White ones, I love B&W pics.

Tweety she wrote this just before her LAOD tweet, seems she liked it.

Great picture of Tobey and Jake! I enjoyed the whole series. Couple of cute Maggie pics, too.

Jake as a helicopter pilot!

Sad announcement: There's not one single Whole Foods store in Montreal, anywhere or in the province of Quebec, for that matter! They are all in terminally chic Vancouver. LOL!

Screenings for LAOD already? That is one enthusiastic tweet!

Thanks for the heads-up on the NYTimes photo, Carla. I had hoped Jake would be in the magazine, et voila! It's fun to look at the other photos. I like the Jake one, but I think I could have liked it more, I don't know.

I saw a notice for the LaoD screening but assumed it was a mistake. I wish we'd get a few more reports from it. Glad the one we got was positive, though.

No Whole Foods in Montreal? Mon dieu!!

Well I think he may have found a place for his caffine fix!:

Mallergies: RT @TamyEmmaPepin: Jake Gyllenhaal spotted by @herbymoreau at Old Montreal's Olive et Gourmando this morning. Rumors say he's shooting a movie?

UltraViolet said...

Yeah, it's hard to find the Jake tweets among all of the ones for the Vampire Weekend video. The video description sounds like chaos :)

This article talks about the Montreal shoot a bit, naming some of the other actors and the studio where it will be shot.

More on the Jake/video connection:

http://anthemmagazine.com/story/1779

Wow, I had no idea those guys were making cameos in this. That’s an impressive line-up!

Yeah, it was cool! The planets just aligned and everybody happened to be around. Most of our phone calls were successful and we were able to grab those guys for the video. I’ve been doing this for a long time and from my own experience, it’s a rarity.

I’m assuming they were already fans of the band then?

I certainly can’t speak for everybody, but Joe Jonas and Jake Gyllenhaal were through connections of mine. I was making calls saying, “Hey, I want to get some people to come down and be in this video!” One of my friends was like, “Oh, I was just with Jake and he was listening to the new Vampire Weekend record.” The next thing you know, there he is. I don’t think he even knew what he was doing, but he absolutely slayed it and was a lot of fun to work with. He did a great job in the video and brought a lot to it, which was fantastic.

I hope people tweet in English.:(

A lot of news and information on Jake to digest :) :)

People can debate on which performances were the best of the decade but in the end it's everyone's own personal choice. Hell, I can't think of one myself, lots of great performances but to just choose one is hard.

Love the NY Times photo of Jake and Tobey and the series of other photos at the link.

Jake looks older and a bit rough around the edges in the video and in the photo, I like the look!!

Love all the Pop photos, Disney really knows how to market their movies.

The comments on the LAOD screening have been really positive, yay!!!

You can hit the translate button on the tweet page on the right Bobbyanna for the Jake in Montreal tweets!

PoP hair does weird things to the shape of Jake's face. Some angles make it look fuller and downright beefy and other shots make him look long-faced, with a big chin. I have a feeling if there's a sequel his hairdo will undergo a subtle, more consistently flattering, adjustment. Loving every new peak, though. The build-up is steadily gaining momentum.

I think that photo of Jake and Tobey is the first time that I actually see a rememblence between them! Jake looks hotter imo, love the leather jacket.

I'm looking forward to the Vampire Weekend video, it sounds wild!

I love how the cast of SC is shaping up.

Loving all the Pop sneek peeks too JoAnn!

Another rave for LaOD. On IMDb. This is a first-time poster, so s/he could be a ringer. Hope it's authentic:

Just saw “Love and Other Drugs” last night at a preview screening in Pasadena. I don’t know what I was expecting, maybe just another idiotic rom-com, but this movie is original, funny, unbelievably sexy, and really moving. And it’s about something. Have to admit I’ve never been much of a Jake Gyllenhaal fan, but here – as a slick Viagra salesman – he’s not only charming and witty, he’s also got this new, warm, strong and quiet leading man thing going. Anne Hathaway meanwhile burns up the screen, and not just because she’s naked half the time. Even when she’s dressed you simply can’t take your eyes off her. I thought she was good in “Rachel Getting Married,” but in this one – as a free-spirit arty girl with early-onset Parkinson’s – she’s very funny and really hard-core. My guess is another nomination will be coming her way. What else…? Josh Gad, who I recognized as one of the correspondents on The Daily Show, is the potty-mouthed younger brother. Sometimes it feels like he’s a refugee from a Judd Apatow movie, but he’s also sweet and innocent. Oliver Platt, who’s always good, is in it, too. And Judy Greer has got some funny stuff but she seems underused (like maybe they cut part of her story?)

I’m the big know-it-all who always predicts what’s going to happen next in a movie, but this time I was always surprised. One minute I was laughing hysterically and the next I found myself wiping tears away. Some people will compare it to “Jerry Maguire” – which I think is a truly great movie – but this one has real depth to it. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a comedy show a relationship with this kind of intimacy and authenticity. I don’t know how else to say it – I really believed these two people were in love, and so was I.

One of the FB posters mentioned before seeing the movie that it was unfinished, so maybe they'll tighten it up.

Might Jake get a nomination for a Golden Globe in the muscial/comedy category?

He might if the film gets good reviews. Hopefully he'll get some type of push next year unlike this year with Brothers.

That's a nice thought, brothers spy. Fingers crossed the buzz is correct.

New PoP featurette, new post :)
