Tudo vai ficar bem

On Friday, everything will finally be okay for Monica and the rest of Brazil. They will finally find out:

Hopefully the movie will be an explosive success, not a bomb:

Behind the camera

Jake Gyllenhaal has been doing double duty on his recent films. He's operating a camera on the new movie, End of Watch. Jake and co-star Michael Pena are acting and filming in documentary style. Radiant Images, a camera rental unit, posted these photos of Jake at a recent test shoot.

That last one is trippy.

Apparently, Jake is "now an experienced SI-2K Nano camera operator." So he has a career to fall back on!

And as we know, Jake was a quasi-producer on Source Code, persuading Duncan Jones to helm the movie. Here are a couple of old/new interviews:

It's fun to see the reviews and reactions piling up on twitter, as Source Code is newly rented/streamed/purchased or seen again. The debate over the ending continues, with some interesting discussions out there.

I hope End of Watch is received as well and is as thought-provoking.

July Source

That's Jake, arriving at something called the Andrews International Training Center in Burbank on Thursday. Not sure if he was there for training for End of Watch (or, you know, to be a security guard). Or that could be where the Battle of the Badges was held.

Still no photos of Jake boxing at that Badges event!

Yes, it's been months since Source Code was first shown at SXSW. But I think this is the first extended video I've seen from the SC press conference:

Love Jake's line about Chicago. It's always fun to watch the interaction. I wish someone had posted the whole event.

We also have a few "new" interviews. First up from SXSW:

I don't remember this interview, all about the SC game that went nowhere. But it's fun to watch Jake interact with the interviewer:

This is a German interview. Lots of time but not necessarily any different questions, unfortunately:

Man, Jake's German Dubber is awful!

Bro time

Jake Gyllenhaal spent some time with brother-in-law Peter Sarsgaard in Los Angeles on Sunday, noshing and jogging. The usual family activities.

The jogging pictures were sort of uninspiring, but I do like these two optically illusional shots:

Jake looks half cyborgian there.

An old Jake interview from the Source Code junket, with some new questions. Interesting perspective on whether Jake feels proud of his work:

Back - sort of

Sorry for the lack of updates recently. Bear with me - hope to be rolling again soon. Thanks to everyone who's been posting sightings, articles and other fun tidbits. Keep them coming!

In the meantime, finally: a photo of Jake at the LAPD Medal of Valor ceremony:

You might have seen this - an interview Jake did when he was in Berlin:

I thought this was a nice quote from Vera Farmiga about Jake. She was a little standoffish about him in some interviews, but this made me smile:

Her limited time working with Jake Gyllenhaal created a bond that remained even after he left the set. "Working with Jake Gyllenhaal was effortless," she says. "He's easygoing, he has an incredible sense of humor, and he's a good sport. He has a warmth and a humor and a relaxation about the process, and a confidence that you just draw upon. It's just a pleasure to be around him and to invent with him."

Found these two old photos of Jake on tumblr. Not sure where or when either was taken, but I thought they were cute:

October Sky Flashback

It seems like October Sky has been running on cable frequently these past few weeks. Here's some vintage footage of Jake at the OS premiere, including a snippet of him with Jamie Lee Curtis:

(Cinecanal)

I've caught the movie a couple of times recently and am always reminded how good Jake was, how watchable and how compelling.

In more recent old news, here's a brief Source Code interview with Jake and then Michelle:

And a couple of random shots I found. I don't remember seeing this shot of RDJ grabbing Jake's arm. Looks like he doesn't want Jake to leave!

And I just like the framing of this shot, from a Love & Other Drugs LA premiere:

Arts and crafts

Jake Gyllenhaal spotted in Los Angeles yesterday:

In case you haven't heard, Source Code comes out on DVD July 26th in the U.S. This art is better than the movie posters:

Found this on tumblr. Not sure if it's a poster or if someone made it, but I love the composition:

A couple more shots of Jake watching the Railroad Revival Tour from in front of the stage this time:

More from the Source

Jake out for lunch in LA on Monday:

Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted with his mother, Naomi Foner, in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Here's a shot of Jake in Berlin, at the Bild offices. Thanks to Monica for the find.

Celebratory and contemplative

There's a new interview with Jake Gyllenhaal in Australia's Herald Sun, conducted sometime in the past week. Jake is asked the usual questions about Source Code but also about recent world events.

Having been politically active in the past, for environmental and civil liberties causes as well as former presidential candidate John Kerry, Gyllenhaal won't be drawn on his personal reaction to the US military events of the past week.

"My opinion matters very little but to be here, I have seen a whole number of reactions," he says of the mood in his homeland right now.

"It's hard to speak for everybody and that's what makes America so extraordinary. It's celebratory and contemplative at the same time."

Having played a US marine in Jarhead, a pilot in Source Code and a cop in the coming drama End of Watch, Gyllenhaal says he takes the portrayal of serving men seriously.

"I think even as this whole thing with Osama Bin Laden comes out and people start to think what an extraordinary job these Navy Seals did, to portray someone who does a job as significant as they do accurately and with respect, I find that to be a great responsibility," he says. "I always feel pressure when I am doing it and try to do as much research as possible."

With the 10th anniversary of Moulin Rouge approaching, Baz Luhrmann recently reflected on the fact that Gyllenhaal and the late Heath Ledger were the last two considered before he ultimately decided on Ewan McGregor as his leading man. After all these years, Gyllenhaal remembers the near-miss fondly.

"It was an honour to be seen and heard and listened to by Baz," he says of his audition. "He is a great filmmaker. I remember it as a very nurturing, huge growing process for me as an artist, which says a lot about Mr Luhrmann."

Given McGregor's surprising vocals in the film, surely Gyllenhaal is harbouring musical talents too?

"Oh, it's not hidden," he says, laughing. "And I'm not even necessarily sure it's a talent, but I would love to do a musical one day."

Resourced

Source Code opens in Australia today, so we're getting some down-under press, including this interview with Jake for the program Sunrise:

You can listen to this podcast to hear the reporter gush about how dreamy Jake is. (It's the March 22 show.)

Here's another video interview with Jake, this time for a New Zealand outlet.

This new SC promo still from IHJ shows that Jake was playing above his age grade:

A couple of loose gems from Jake's railroad adventure. First up, after the San Pedro show. Guess he had time to pack a football!

Small but fun photo of Jake on the New Orleans dinner cruise:

The poster described Jake as "very, very nice! and just as attractive as he is in every photo and movie!" Aww.

Another photo of Jake on stage in New Orleans (thanks, Monica) and one of him with the boys in the band:

If you're in a voting mood, head to PopSugar to vote for Jake in their Top 100 Stars poll.

Laissez les bons temps rouler

Jake Gyllenhaal is continuing his rock and roll idyll with his musical idols, taking in the sights of New Orleans (Riverwalk and steamboat cruise) yesterday with Marcus Mumford and other band members.

And today, he's enjoying the tunes at the New Orleans Jazz Fest, where Mumford performed. Jake with Mumford band member Winston Marshall enjoying the Avett Brothers:
