This day in American Political history:

1998 - President Clinton impeached. After nearly 14 hours of debate, the House of Representatives approves two articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton. Five weeks later the president was acquitted on both articles of impeachment.


1980 - Jake Gyllenhaal is born. During the summer of 1997, 16 year old Jake finds himself seated next to 17 year old Chelsea Clinton at the Martha's Vineyard home of Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen for the 51st birthday dinner celebration for Chelsea's father.

This day in Aeronautical history:

1972 - The Apollo lunar-landing program ends on December 19, 1972, when the last three astronauts to travel to the moon splash down safely in the Pacific Ocean. Apollo 17 had lifted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, 10 days before.

1980 - Jake Gyllenhaal is born. Sometime later his name is attached to the "Untitled Moon Project" whose synopsis reads: An action film centered around one crew's expedition to the moon during a time of frenzied interest in lunar colonization.

1924 - On this date the last Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost manufactured in England was sold in London. The Silver Ghost, a custom touring car, was introduced in 1906, and was called by some the "Best Car in the World."

1980 - Jake Gyllenhaal is born. Later does a photoshoot inside a very old car.

1783 - Charles-Julien Brianchon is born. Brianchon was a French mathematician who published a geometrical theorem (named as Brianchon's theorem) while a student (1806). His last work in mathematics made the first use of the term "nine-point circle."


1980 - Jake Gyllenhaal is born. Goes on to play the role of a mathematician in the film, Proof. I think they were going for the math-geek look with those eyeglasses. I think they failed miserably.

Perhaps they should have considered this look.

1972 - Warren Sapp is born. Sapp is the retired longtime defensive nosetackle for the Tampa Bay Bucs and runner-up in the most recent installment of Dancing With The Stars.

1980 - Jake Gyllenhaal is born. Goes on to play football. In October Sky. And looks scary mean as a football player.


And does some dancing of his own. Where he looks both goofy and suave.





1989 - Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics begins NBA free throw streak of 71 games on December 19.

1980 - Jake Gyllenhaal is born. In Los Angeles. Because of the location of his birth, it is predetermined he will be a lifelong Lakers fan.



1984 - On this date, Wayne Gretzky, 23, becomes the 18th and youngest NHLer to score 1,000 points.

1980 - Jake Gyllenhaal is born. And in 1992 was forbidden by his parents to take a role in Disney's popular children's hockey film The Mighty Ducks, as the shoot would keep him away from home for two months. It would be another 16 years before he would get the chance to work with Disney.


1994 - Los Angeles Dodgers trade John DeSilva to the Baltimore Orioles and receive John O'Donoghue.

1980 - Jake Gyllenhaal is born. To the shock and dismay of Dodgers (and Cardinals) fans everywhere he goes on to become a Red Sox fan, to the delight of Sox fans everywhere.

1154 - On this date in 1154 Henry II is crowned King of England. On film, Henry II was portrayed by Peter O'Toole in The Lion in Winter.

1980 - Jake Gyllenhaal is born. In 2008 he begins filming on the classic epic, swashbuckling, action-adventure movie Prince of Persia in which he portrays Prince Dastan. And shows us just how far those biceps have matured.
