Get them early

Jake Gyllenhaal and Alice Waters appeared on the Today Show this morning, with children from the Hunters Point Boys and Girls Club in Berkeley. If you didn't wake up in time or if you had to leave the house, the clip is above.

Jake was named an ambassador for the Edible Schoolyards program in December. Last fall, he helped the kids at PS 216 in Brooklyn launch their own garden.

Good to see Jake putting his hoe where his mouth is. Or something like that...

Here's a video about Alice Waters and the ESY program. Jake appears just after the one-minute mark:

It's great to see Jake's rapport with the kids. Very nice report, even if Jenna Bush is not the world's best reporter.

Aww, UV. I cut ol' Jenna some slack. LOL!!!

That was a great segment for a really great program. You can see how effective it is in the faces of the kids. And yes! Jake is wonderful with kids. Really, really wonderful.

When I was a little girl...long ago in another century... my father and I had a vegetable garden which eventually became my garden! I was selling carrots in the driveway when I was 8! LOL!

Oh, so you started young, Bobbyanna. Hee. But that is a nice memory/experience to have.

I loved the kid who said there must be something wrong with you if you don't like carrots!

As for Jenna, she has what I call "stupid voice." She just sounds dumb. I can't get past it.

This blogger saw the segment and decided to choose Jake as the Boyfriend of the Week :)

Thanks for posting this so quickly UV! He rally does have a wonderful rapport with kids, they are adorable.

Jenna Bush is annoying, but it was easy to ignore her and just concentrate on Jake, Alice and the kids.

This is such a wonderful program, I wish I had a garden, sigh.

From twitter:

Breakfast burrito with Jake Gyllenhaal, well, not really but he's sitting across from us. He's cuter in movies, is that mean?

I would love a garden, too, tweety. But I'd need a gardener! I do not have a green thumb.

Whoa, EARTHQUAKE!!! we got a it of a jolt here in NY, my building was swaying!

It registered at 5.8 in DC, that was scary.

Thanks for posting the segment, I'm so glad Jake is involved in this and it also is connected to what the First Lady is involved with.

We supposedly had it here, too, chica, but I didn't feel anything. There are a lot of very funny tweets about it. This might be my favorite:

Ha, ha! That pretty much sums it up although it was a bit unnerving since I never experienced anything like that before.

it's back to normal here!

UltraViolet said...

Oh, I'm sure it would be unnerving. Glad everyone is safe and back to normal. Well, you know, for NY :)

Surprising that there was nothing here in CT, glad everyone effected is Ok.

I love this segment, Jake is very serious about this movement. It's great to see the kids so excited about growing their own food and better nutrition.

It is really cool, OONP. And sad when you think of the options available in some neighborhoods.

There have been a lot of funny twitter mentions of Jake/TDAT. And a sighting, from FB:

So my immediate, totally geologically sound thought was, 'Oh, then of course California is about to detach into the ocean, and I am going to die at Intelligentsia, next to Jake Gyllenhaal.' And I was suffused with a feeling of peace over a life well spent.

I wish Jake Gyllenhaal hung out at the 7-11 brewing counter, so I could enjoy my coffee next to him, too.

Amani Starnes he's very friendly. you should be sure to make small talk before you both perish in awkward silence.

I'm glad I stopped by, I had no idea Jake was going to be on the Today show with Alice!

I've been real busy so I need to catch up but it looks like all Jake has been doing is filming EOW!

This is such a great program and the title of the post is perfect, get them early. Children should learn that there are healthy alternatives to junk food and although it's difficult for inner city kids, this program will help so many communities.

Jake is so wonderful with these kids in this clip.

They say PA was hit with the earthquake but I didn't feel a thing!

LOL! The twitter/FB comments were fun, UV! Wonder if Silverlake Girl had her chance... ;)

I laughed at all the comments referencing TDAT and Jake rescuing pple on Twitter, too. Even Adam Levine, who was performing in D.C. said he was getting a "Roland Emerich-y" vibe.

Ah, I love that boy's comment about carrots:) What a wonderful org. for Jake to be involved in, makes me so proud and happy:)

The tweets about the quake and Jake are so funny, just glad that it wasn't a major quake.

We felt the quake here in VA (well of course since the epiicenter was about 84 miles south of DC area)

it was a weird feeling like a wave passing beneath my feet. I thought it was a plane passing overhead at first but I was on the phone with customer service and the woman goes "whoa what was that an earthquake?" and I said yeah.

I'd love to be with Jake and make small talk just in case this was IT.

Looks like the Ben Lyons segment will be on E tomorrow. They showed some footage, with Jake in a dress shirt. This tweet probably explains. From yesterday:

Season_Kent: Attended first Quinceanera today - onset for my new film #endofwatch - we had 5 on-camera music numbers- So fun!

E showed footage of Jake dancing with Anna Kendrick (I think) at the end of the news. Hopefully we'll see a little of that tomorrow.

Happy to know that all of you are well.

Jake is so adorable on Today Show.

"RT @MarvinRMillora:reh w/ Jake Gyllenhaal/Anna Kendrick 4 a new movie today then got a call 2 perform at staples center tonight>> yea dude!!"

Edible Schoolyards is a great endeavor for Jake to be involved in, he is so enthusiastic!

What a contrast from what he looked like earlier in NY with hair vs bald Jake!

Thanks for the heads up about E and the Lyon's behind the scenes with EOW.

I wish I remembered where I read that Jake and Ben's family were friends ( From Naomi's side of the family in Brooklyn/LES) but I have to think that is why he always seems to be the one from E that interview Jake!

Hi Sheba - Ben and Jake definitely have a connection, lol. Maybe one or the other will mention it sometime.

Mary, everything is working for me, too. Maybe you can try another browser?

New post with the "new" yearbook photos.
