"Did you see that?"

Update: Jake at the Lakers/Spurs game on Monday night:

Last photo tweeted by Jeanie Buss, Lakers Executive Vice President:

Jake Gyllenhaal courtside. His new film looks good - Prince of Persia with the long locks.

Looks like someone bought himself a new hat over the weekend :)

After a totally unexpected on-side kick led to a touchdown and turned the Super Bowl around for the New Orleans Saints, the real excitement happened: Disney aired a 30-second spot for Prince of Persia, starring Jake Gyllenhaal:

The ad opened with a beautiful shots of Gemma and then ran through some familiar scenes:

Best part of the ad? "GIVE ME THE DAGGER!"

Some reviews are in. Television Without Pity gives the ad a thumbs-up:

With this video-game movie, simple seems the best way to go, since its longer trailers have only made this look like a convoluted mess. In only 30 seconds, this trailer got across the fact that Jake Gyllenhaal is in it, he has a knife that turns back time, and the special effects are jaw-dropping. We're in.

The USA Today AdMeter currently ranks the PoP ad 44th (Alice in Wonderland is 31; Shutter Island 37; Robin Hood 39; Wolfman.)

You can vote in a poll on the movie ads at the Star Ledger.

The cover art for Brothers can be seen on Amazon - and you can pre-order, too! It's odd that they have the date listed as 2008. Yes, that's when we wanted to see it, but we didn't get to!

Thanks for the heads-up, Mary. Nice shot of Jake - I'll add it to the post :)

Thanks, mary & UV.

Very nice looking DVD cover...How nice that Lionsgate decided to use the blurb about it being "Oscar-worthy..." Too bad they didn't think of that six months ago.

It's a brilliant sunny day! I hate contractors, but I'm still going to be happy. Just for spite.

Chica said...

My office is moving to a cheaper space and it's chaos here today!

I like the DVD cover for Brothers. Jake's performance was certainly Oscar worthy, Lionsgate really dropped the ball with the film.

Love all the stills from the trailer, thanks!

UltraViolet said...

Ugh - good luck with the move, chica. Always fun. And to you, too, with the contractors, bobbyanna!

Two of the tweeters who saw Jake over the weekend apparently work for an Austin radio station. They saw Jake but didn't get a picture:

Jake Gyllenhaal was hanging out in Austin this weekend, and Sara and Cassiday saw him on South Congress Saturday. They acted like total stalkers about it, and Cassiday even asked him for a photo, but he turned her down.

Would have been fun to hear them talk about it on the radio.

Also, apparently Jake had coffee at Juan Pelota Cafe this morning. It is attached to this bike shop, which seems connected to Lance Armstrong.

Tweety said...

Agree with TV without pity said about the Pop trailer, but not whit Shutter Island, I liked that trailer.

Very nice cover work on the Brothers DVD. I hope it finds a wider audience when it is released.

Coffee at Juan Pelota and lunch at Enoteca! And yes he is a handsome man, not boy!:

photosmashing: Jake Gyllenhaal is at Enoteca right now. He's a handsome boy afterall.

Yay for the Saints. First time watching the superbowl it was fabulous towards the middle and end.

Probably the PoP trailer gave them the 'courage' to go the extra yards to win. The fact that I've discovered its a rebirth of a team and a city is too good for words.

Love the DVD cover and look forward to lots of eggs and extras.

Yes, ladies and gents, that was Jake Gyllenhaal at Home Slice and Enoteca. He's in town David Modigliani's 30th birthday.

Where are all the pictures of Jake with David? No pictures, didn't happen.

That Brothers pic of Jake is gorgeous and thanks for the PoP stills UV.

There are no pics of Jake from this weekend period, except for the twicpic taken of him with friends at that restauraunt.

Mystery solved. From all of these tweets and posts, it sounds like there's a big group celebrating. Hope they're all having fun.

UltraViolet said...

Forgot to say you're welcome for the pics, anon. I'm happy Jake is so prominent on the cover though I do feel a liittle bad for Natalie. Let's hope Jake figures as prominently in the bonus features.

UltraViolet said...

Spamming but I thought this was cute. From one of the tweeters who saw Jake at Enoteca:

oh_steph @onelegatatime TRUTH. All the waitresses were starstruck.

Yes mystery solved, I hope they all had a good time.
Looks like he is headed out of TX:

I saw it and so did most of America! The Superbowl was the highest rated show in history, beating out the last episode of M.A.S.H

Watched the video of the trailer posted, I'll never get tired of it, four more months!

Looks like Jake is headed home after celebrating over the weekend with his friend. I remember the talk about David's documentary Crawford a few years ago. I never got to see it.

bobbyanna said...

Shondra, if you go to hulu.com, they are still running "Crawford."

You can see it there for free.

Glad Jake had a fun weekend with friends, fellow filmmakers, and foodies!:)

So great to see Jake with Chris having fun- I have missed those pictures.

The ad was fine but too short - I don´t care about the nay-sayers anymore - the "not persian" argument is absurd - this is not a documentation, it is a video game and Jake does exactly look like the prince.

No sign for a release date for "Brothers" over here - I have given up hope and will have to wait for the DVD.

Josie said...

The trailer was quick, but the fsct such a large audience saw it is awesome!

I agree Carla, the non-Persian complaint is getting old, he isn't playing a historical figure.

Look, it's Chris! Good to see them hanging out.

I realy liked Brothers and loved Jake's 's performance. I hope more people get to see it when it's realeased.

suvee said...

Nice to see you, Chris!

Looks like the 3 amigos really were together in Austin..... the MV amigos, that is. :)
Bet it was fun weekend for them.

UltraViolet said...

Updated to include new photos. Looks like they had fun!

And yes, it's very cool that the Super Bowl audience was so huge.

bobbyanna said...

Love these game pics! Always great to see Chris.

I've discovered that Rendition is finding an audience since it's been on HBO, etc. and out on DVD, and I know that Brothers will do well, too.

You're right. It's great that the huge SB audience got to see the PoP trailer.

Today is Eldest Daughter's birthday! I tell people she is my sister...:) We were chatting while she walked to the subway. I She's usually at work by 7 A.M., but she has a new man, so she is less of a work-aholic:)

Office of Nancy Pelosi said...

Chris!!!!! I have a bit of a crush on that man, it's good to see him again.

The audience for the Superbowl was huge, I can't believe the numbers!

That is such a great shot of Jake on the cover of the Brothers DVD, so much better than my least favorite cover of a Jake movie: Zodiac.

The three amigos from MV, that's too funny Suvee, hope they had fun!

David Belle, parkour founder, on working with Jake:

CinemaSpy: You have now worked on three English-language Hollywood films as the stunt or parkour coordinator, and appeared in two, Babylon A.D. and Femme Fatale. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is one of the most anticipated films of this year. Did you work closely with Jake Gyllenhaal? What are the important things to be aware of when you are working with actors that have little knowledge of stunts or parkour? How do you train them?

David Belle: The idea is you move around with the actor to see where his limits are. How much can he do? I can do this. It is up to you as the coordinator to determine where those limits are and whether he needs to be substituted with a stuntman, whether it is a risk that he can handle or not. Unless he is really comfortable with it, it is probably better for him to be substituted with a stunt guy. Now, in the case of Prince of Persia, Jake prepared himself well physically and he was able to do a lot of stuff himself. ...

CinemaSpy: With the success of parkour on the big screen, you then also began taking acting lessons. You have worked with and been on sets with actors like Jean Reno, Antonio Banderas, Charlotte Rampling and Michelle Yeoh. Are there any actors that you particularly admire?

David Belle: First of all, I would like to just say that I have enjoyed working with everybody that I have worked with, and I would love to have a repeat experience with any of them. As far as actors I would like to work with in the future, Hugh Jackman, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt—who doesn’t like Brad Pitt? With any of them, I would like to have the impression of evolving, of moving forward, and then I could learn something from them. They are all pretty good in action but I would want to feel that I am growing. That would be magnificent.

Jake is looking great in all these fantastic pics. :D

Thanks for all the details of his trip, UV. Sounds like he was busy. :p

Also, thanks for the Brothers DVD pics! Glad to see Jake gets in the front.

The PoP commercial is great. Thanks for the parkour info. Seems Jake was well prepared and that is impressive coming from the founder.

Bobbyanna, happy birthday to your daughter! Suvee, glad your mom is doing better and happy birthday to her!

UltraViolet said...

Hi get real :) It has been a fun few days - for us and Jake!

Aww, happy birthday to suvee's mom and bobbyanna's daughter! It's also Carmen Miranda's birthday :)

A whole slew of Jake photos from last night. Some of them are priceless. If I have time later, I might have to do a captions post!

Some other tidbits from Jake's weekend, from Facebook:

1. He rented a Prius and was deemed "a very nice dude."

2. He was spotted on the Zilker Trail.

3. He and David apparently enjoyed the pecan pie at Enoteca.

4. He "was very nice and tipped over 20%"

5. He played basketball at a local gym "with a big crew and said they were just playing among themselves. but i watched him play for a while. he's a shooter, not a driver, pretty good at boxing out and he really does have this boyish demeanor about him."

(Note: I deleted my earlier post because I found a better link for those pictures.)

(Yesterday was Lana Turner's birthday. I'd recently watched Madam X. Such crying!)

"Chris!!!!! I have a bit of a crush on that man,..."

OOMP, monica, suvee, etc. etc. anyone else who has a crush, you have EXCELLENT taste! I saw him in person in Toronto when I went there for Rendition, and Chris is gorgeous! Put another way, if Jake asked him to look after me, I wouldn't mind a bit.

UltraViolet said...

Thanks for all the tweets and the patience :)

Interesting that Jake is doing some PoP press. Wonder who else is getting to talk to him.

This sounds like one of the tweeters from last night:

Bonus: Jake Gyllenhaal was in attendance last night. He stood in the balcony right above us and watched the show from there. I'm so glad I didn't notice him until the very end of the show because otherwise, I would've been so distracted. But he was rockin' out and having a fantastic time. Yes, he totally fanboyed over them. At some point, he was screaming and clapping louder than we were. So cute (and yes, he's soooo gorgeous in person).

Another tweeter reported, slightly resentfully, that Jake got to go backstage.

For Valentine's Day, Moviefone lists the 10 Screen Couples We're Psyched To See in 2010:

Jake Gyllenhaal & Gemma Arterton
Starring In: 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' (May 28)
Why We're Psyched: This fantastical video-game adaptation about a sixth-century Persian prince who must save the world from a dastardly nobleman is obviously an effects-heavy popcorn movie. That's all well and good, but what we really want to see is said prince (a buff, insanely hot-looking Gyllenhaal) trade quips and, ah, other things with Brit actress Arterton (Bond Girl from 'Quantum of Solace' who will also be seen this year in 'Clash of the Titans'), who plays his plucky -- and gorgeous -- princess companion. Talk about striking visuals...

UltraViolet said...

Thanks, sheba baby :) I hate E! too but sometimes, you have to sit through them.

The tweets referring TDAT keep coming; some of them are pretty funny. Hope everyone's home and tucked away from the snow. We didn't really get much here, despite the dire forecast. I'm not complaining!

UltraViolet said...

Stephanie posted new Jake pics on the IHJ forum. And I accidentally posted them until I realized she asked us not to repost anywhere.

He's with a shaved-head Peter, and it looks like he's wearing a new/old ring. He looks good :)

A few tidbits tonight. An article about an Indian actress who has a small role in PoP:

I didn’t even know the film’s story. Whatever we had to do was explained to us on that particular day. They asked me if I knew how to put mehendi and when I said yes, I was asked to put it on Gemma Artenton, the lead actress.”

Having shot for around four weeks for the film, Ambika is in awe of the set which was created in Pinewood studios in London. She got to interact with the film’s lead actor Jake Gyllenhal of Brokeback Mountain fame. “We broke the ice and he kept us engaged — he’s really funny,” she reveals.

Interesting that they didn't let the actors in smaller roles have the whole script/story.

David Bergstein is up to more tricks. Just freaking find a way to get Nailed to the public, David.

New LEGO photo.

Sheba baby said...

Wow, Peter looks so different with his head shaved. Jake looks good and zi see the return of the pinhy ring, I don't think he has worn it since BBM/Jarhead promo!

There is one set of pics where she is wearing 3 rings, all on her left hand. It's in the Lakers game pics from last year. One looks like a signet ring, one a gold band and the other I think was gold with a cluster of tiny hearts.

Good to see him with Peter, love the video of Maggie, never realized how funny she is!

Reese is tiny; no way a ring of Jake's would fit her.

Maggie didn't actually mention Chris by name, monica. Newell on "dropping a $200M franchise on the shoulders of a sleepy-eyed 27 year old who has barely thrown a punch in his career was a massive gamble "

"Yeah it is, But I have known Jake since he was little and I'd seen this quality on screen. He's not John Wayne, who's a massive block of wood. Jake - you can see into him. He has a very soft and gentle side. He's an action hero made in heaven"

Interviewer to Jake, Do you worry that swords-and-sandals epics are tough to pull off.

Jake - This is not a swords-and-sandals epic. it's definitely not that.None of us wear sandals in this movie. I made a conscious choice and it was very important to me that I did not wear sandals. this. This is a huge, classic epic, filled with real characters. It has those wonderful old-school elements you love about film and yet at the same time it's right there on the cutting edge.

It is a very good read and I wish I was able to share it all with you.

Oh, Ginny. Thanks for the info! "An action hero made in heaven" is a great quote. I'm sure IHJ will have the scans soon.

Agent K - are you out there with a scanner? :)

Bobbyanna, I look forward to reading that article with breathless anticipation. Hee.

Leonor, I'm not sure what you mean about the youtube videos.

Hi, Shondra! :)

Actually, I've read about half of it now, and pages 214-215 are really fascinating as far as insight into how Kavanaugh "picks" movies to produce, finance, etc.
Part of me wanted to slap him :)
I haven't had a chance to get much farther. I hope brothers spy and sag actor get a chance to read it, too.
