Mystery solved

Ciao, Italia!

From IHJ:

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard married at a small chapel on the grounds of the luxury hotel Masseria in Brindisi near Rome, Italy. There were about 40 guests including Maggie's brother Jake and Reese Witherspoon. 5.2.09

Congratulations to the newlyweds!

And thanks to IHJ for solving the puzzle and posting so quickly.

Congratulations to the newlyweds! I love destination weddings.

Just want to say, Brindisi isn't near Rome, it's way south, on the heel of the boot, on the Adriatic side, so they really went out of their way to evade the media. And they were reasonably successful. It appears they really weren't bothered. Much:)

Congrats to Maggie and Peter...very romantic.

A wedding in Italy sounds delightful. Best wishes to Maggie and Peter.

And I see Naomi and Stephen managed to be civil (they're standing a couple of feet apart in one picture).

I'm glad Maggie and Peter's wedding wasn't papped too badly.

When I first saw the pictures, I thought Reese wasn't there, but I'm glad to read that she was.

Jake does love that hat, doesn't he? :)

I noticed that, as well, Bobbyanna. Either there's another town called Brindisi that is near Rome or that info is really off. Looks like not knowing geography is one of the requirements for being a pap caption writer!

And LG, I know you've been away. There were pics of Reese in Milan taken sometime this past week. So we knew she was in Italy and assumed something was up!

I love destination weddings, too, FL. Especially when there are pretty pictures :)

Thanks for the post. It's wonderful to hear that Peter and Maggie were able to slip away and have this romantic wedding relatively undisturbed. Also that the family could be together. The timing couldn't be better.

Congrats to the happy couple and well done to IHJ. It's something we all wanted to see - the family happy.

Congrats to Pete and Maggie - what a gorgeous place, just looking at the hotel and location on google, it's stunning (and nowhere near Rome!). Shall we place bets on when the first 'Reese under pressure to wed Jake after his sister's wedding' story will appear ;-)

Congrats to Maggie & Peter!

A truly romantic place - I hope they enjoy their stay and somne days of vacation.

I am missing Reese in those pics?? Perhaps we will get some more during the next days.

Lol - Brindisi near Rome.....

I had a feeling Maggie and Peter were getting married this weekend instead of next to throw people off when Reese was spotted in Milan!

Congratulations Peter and Maggie!

I csn see Ramona in the last picture in the children's seat! I hope the whole family enjoy there time together.

Yeah, they did choose a place way off to get married and it looks like the 40 guests including Reese weren't bothered.

Jake sure loves that fedora!

Brindisi is a beautiful location to get married, congratulations to Peter and Maggie!

Jake, please loose the hat!!

UltraViolet said...

I don't mind the hat. It's a wedding in a fun location; Jake obviously wanted to distinguish himself a bit.

From everything I've been reading, it does seem like a beautiful place to get married. Or just to visit. And of course, I keep humming this.

I'm glad the happy couple got a mostly private celebration. But I wouldn't mind some extra-wedding photos :)

I thought they might do the old bait and switch, and it would be Reese and Jake who got married. And Peter and Maggie were already married. Hasn't Jake let it slip they were already married? Great post. Maggie and Peter make such a great couple. They are both indie darlings, and seem to be perfectly matched.

The Apuglia region has interestng architecture. There are these little round houses. The area on the coast is developing as a tourist destination and it's fairly new on the scene. (Organicand vegan are"in" at the resort where they stayed.)Bet they are developing their own "Sustainable Food Project":))

I think the word "masseria" has something to do with "farming" or land? It is used almost generically throughout the region. (I've been Googling and researching the region.)

Brindisi is famous in ancient history as the place where Spartacus hoped to escape from Rome after the Slave Revolt. He gave all his treasure to pirates but they hung him out to dry...in a manner of speaking.

My grandfather came from Montepaoune in Catanzaro which is like the arch of the boot. There is a lovely resort area there now in a city called Soverato. I've never been to the South, aside from Naples, Sorrento and Capri, but one day I intend to trace my roots. I love it that they all seem so fond of Italy.

Maybe our Italian Gyllenbabblers can also tell us more about the area...and also be on the lookout, etc.:)

Congratulations to Maggie and Peter.

Massaria in southern Italian (Campania region) means farm house/out house but each region has it's own variation of words so Masseria could mean the same and I know somebody who moved to Lecce which is just down from Brindisi and they say it is beautiful and love living there.

Sorry I meant "out house" as in a small builing on some farm land.

Best wishes to Maggie and Peter!

I remember Jake saying that his family acts like a big Italian family so I guess getting married in Italy makes sense. I was scratching my head at first when I heard the rumor!

Yay!!! I adore Maggie and Peter, what a lovely couple. I love the picture of them kissing even though it's stalkerish. I usually don't like Jake in that hat but here it suits him.

Congratulations!!

With that hat on, Jake reminds me of Al Pacino. Not because he's in Italy, either. It's that hat, and his look.

Monica said...

He is very beautiful and stylish with this hat!

Echoing all the oohs and ahs over the pics and the general romance. It's very swoon-worthy.

Thanks, Verde and anyone else for keeping an eye out for any Italian stories on the newlyweds or the acting-like-newlyweds...

New pics, new post :)
