Hello, Congressman!

Jake Gyllenhaal attended some kind of event for something charitable or important in Los Angeles today. I couldn't pay attention to anything except how gorgeous he looks. Oh, and the fact that he has two crutches today.

Herewith, a preview of what I hope politician Jake looks like in Nailed:

Nice shoes, but he looks like he's in pain. He misses his sneakers!

Back off, Maria. You have your own fake politician at home!

Sigh:

Oh, and here's the info on the organization Jake was supporting:

The Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC) employs young men and women to work in and improve the environment and at the same time receive work experience, training, and continue their education. Utilizing City funds, LACC provides the labor and materials to construct your garden.

ETA: This picture of Jake leaving the doctor's office, with two crutches. Well, technically three. As you can see, he can't let go of his PHONE :)

Ooh, handsome Jake, doing good works.:)

But the two crutches are a bad sign. I hope he gets better soon.

Funny comment about Maria ,UV.

FluorescentLamp said...

Maria's all swoony over him. I see it in her calm demeanor. She's not fooling ANYone!

He looks lovely. One of his new Steven Alan button downs perhaps? Nice to see that great big Gyllenhaal smile. :-)

I'm going to hazard a guess (which is all we do around here, lol) and say he didn't want to slip on the grass/uneven turf. Reese probably told him to be careful!

But man, he looks gorgeous. And happy!

Girls you rock!
I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened my Wireimage approximately 10 minutes ago...to Jakey's pics...and called on you for help.:lol
Jake is such a giving person, but then his parents taught him to see after and care for persons other than himself.

I think doing good works and helping others, keeps Jake/others grounded and sane, when all of Hollyweird, sometimes inspite of itself, strives to make you oh so crazy.

I often think how Jake's parents, and how they raised him, how they gave his Bar Mitzvah in a homeless shelter, when they could have had a much more lavish affair...the teachings stuck. It worked. Good for Jake.
Thanks to you both again for the information on this organization; now I can go back and preuse his pics again and again.

I hate that he is still on crutches, but he is one tough sob...as my granny would say...tough in the ways that count.
luv you all,
xoxoxo

I see what you mean by Maria Shriver...but how can she resist.

And thanks for reminding me: Jake plays a Congressman in his next movie; suits look so good on him. *sigh*

Damn, he looks good!!! Oy!

I'm not alarmed by two crutches. I attempted to wrestle with one crutch,& two is much better bcz the weight is more evenly distributed and you can totally stay off the injured foot/ankle.

I think he might have been chastised by his doc to take it easier which he maybe hasn't been doing enough of.

It appears he had to do a lot of walking with this event. I think the crutches are for when he is doing a lot of walking and will be on his feet alot.

Jake is silly to have worn regular shoes, tho. Bet he was ready for some Advil or Motrin when he got home! I like how, when he was coming up the stairs at that event, you could see that he'd ditched the crutches. :)

suvee said...

My, my.....Maria is looking a bit fangirly, isn't she?

I wonder if the LACC promoting growing city gardens didn't strike a responsive chord with foodie Jake. I really like that he isn't a "what charities can I support just so I can appear to be a concerned citizen" kind of actor. You know that if he's there, it is something truly personal and important to him. He really is an authentic, good man.

And, yeah, I bet those dress shoes are painful. :(

Anonymous said...

He was part of the program. He spoke at the event. More Pictures at WireImage. He's way prettier than Ahhrnold.

FluorescentLamp said...

Thanks, anon. I think if you look at our post on the front page of the blog you'll duly note that we've got it covered - why we even linked to the LACC. We're resourceful like that. ;-)

UltraViolet said...

From the good news/bad news department.

Look: Jake not in avian plaid!

Bad news: Don't look at the shoes!

Also, if you live in Richland or Lexington counties in SC, keep your eyes pealed.

I was at this event today, it was the annual scholarship luncheon for the LA Conservation Corps held near downtown Los Angeles. Jake introduced two of the scholarship winners, one of which he befriended while researching a role for an upcoming film. Very cute in person! :)

UltraViolet said...

Thanks for the report, anon. Did Jake mention the film? We're always eager for the details.

Like, how did he look? :)

Just playing catch up here, I'm officially in love with Pedro, what an angel he is, and my, Jake can so work a suit (although the crocs he's wearing in the other photos, the sheer horribleness of those even outdoes the Jake power of making everything look good) Off now to redrool at the suit photos.

gyllenspooner said...

I'm liking the suit much better than the plaid. Jake looks good, but slightly uncomfortable.

Anonymous said...

He's worn that suit before I think. Was it to Cannes Festival? It looks real good on him.

Anonymous said...

Me thinks he looks great! Don't get the 'he looks uncomfortable/in pain/does-not-look-well' comments I see in some places.

chica said...

What a wonderful sight to wake up to: Jake in a suit and looking great and no plaid!!

Little concerned about the crutches, I hope it's on the mend, Nailed is supposed to start shooting on 4/14!

Good to see him supporting a wonderful cause.

gyllenspooner said...

I don't think he looks bad or upset. He just seems a bit uncomfortable. Probably because of the ankle not being 100%.

bobbyanna said...

When I injured my foot, I had to "plan my moves." especially if I went somewhere that involved a lot of walking, standing, stair-climbing, the parking, etc. And the pain is no joke. It was hard to rest comfortable.

If he sprained it, it might be more painful and take longer to mend then a simple fracture. The frequent visits to the docs might be for some kind of physical therapy or treatments.

He may look a bit tired, but all in all, he looks gorgeous...as usual. I wonder. Will I ever get tired of looking at pictures of Jake!

Pedro and his videos make me smile too, FL!

josie said...

Seeing him on crutches is a bit jarring after seeing pics of him on Tuesday w/o them but he looks good, although a bit tired and he is supporting a terrific cause!

agent_krycek said...

Just found out Peter is apparently filming in Central London at the moment. I shall do my duty as a Babbler and attempt to track him down this weekend and hand over a strongly worded note for Jake, instructing him to rest his foot, seek treatment for his plaid/bird infested clothing addiction and, most importantly, NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER BE SEEN IN CROCS AGAIN!

FluorescentLamp said...

CROCS are an assault against humankind no doubt. Yet, somehow I don't mind seeing them on The Gyllenhaal.

I think Jake has always had a bit of tree hugging, earthy crunchy thing going on which he managed to keep fairly well hidden until recently. The multiple avian plaid flannels, the CROCS - oh yes, it's all coming out now. :-D

I'm counting the days until we see him out at the garden shop wearing his best Farmer Brown overalls. And Wellies. And a straw hat. And a sprig of alfalfa stuck in his teeth.

I'm not sure about it , but if Flynet say the truth (http://www.flynetonline.com/2008/03/no-more-crutches-for-jake/)
"When asked about how things were going with Reese, Jake responded with 'Hilarious", this should be the first time that Jake- although indirectly- admit that he and Reese are together.
What do you say about it?

Here is a very brief and annoying video of the paps filming Jake as he gets in his car at the Doctor's yesterday. They are told to get lost by what looks like parking attendents and Jake is seen gatting in the passenger side and putting the crutches in back, but briefly you see a blonde woman with a running jacket on. Now if it was Reese X17 would say so, but if it was one of his PA's, wouldn't she be driving and Jake sitting in the back?

http://x17video.com/celebrity_video/jake_gyllenhaal/x17_xclusive_jake_gyllenhaal_l.php

BTW: The blonde looks like Reese from the side.

Hey all

OMG so much Jake goodness I can't handle it, LOL! So loving all this activity.

Does he look gorgeous in that suit or what? That smile always gets me every time. So good to see him supporting such a good cause. Rock on Jake! :) Maria was fangirling big time,,hehe.

I will forgive the Crocs and just have to say it must be injury related. Yeah I have to tell myself that, lol. ;) Just hope he heals quickly. Guess he is needing the crutches for support.

Okay, I can deal with the LumberJake shirts but I have trouble with him wearing them all the time. Once in a while, yes, every day, no. Glad summer is coming and it will be short sleeve shirts, and hopefully some shirtlessness, all the way, baby! ;p

Pedro's videos always make me go...aww. So glad he had another nice experience seeing Jake. Love hearing that.

Thanks all for the links, videos, info, etc, etc.

agent_krycek said...

I'm counting the days until we see him out at the garden shop wearing his best Farmer Brown overalls. And Wellies. And a straw hat. And a sprig of alfalfa stuck in his teeth.

Well, he did admit on Jonathan Ross that he'd like to be a farmer so you might not be too far off!

get real said...

Thanks for the link, Extra. It looks like Jake is in the drivers seat. Maybe the blond, who does look like Reese, but not sure it is her, may have helped him get there. If it was his left foot that was injured he can still drive. Good for the parking attendant to reprimand the paps.

agent_krycek said...

It could be Reese, looks to be her build, but she's well shielded by her hair and by the parking attendant man, the paps might well have not noticed her, the clip is only 5 seconds long, and again, these are the chumps that identified Urth cafe as The Ivy the other week, so I wouldn't expect them to spot her.

Office of Nancy Pelosi said...

I checked the video, and it really quick but if it was his PA that looks like Jake, then she should be the one driving since you would think that she was there to help him. This blonde looks like she is going to sit in the back.

Wasn't it X17online that had that video of Jake and what I thought at the time was his assistant because she wasn't identified? Well when the video was posted again and you actually heard her speak, it sounded like Reese.

It could be that Jake and Reese are playing Cat and Mouse again with the paps, it could explain why the attendats shooed the paps away, they sure didn't do that on Tuesday. If it was Reese and she was waiting in the car, she may have told them to get rid of them, it would explain why the video is so short!

I obviously have too much tim e on my hands at the moment....

Office of Nancy Pelosi said...

Whoops! I meant the PA that looks like Reese, not Jake!

FluorescentLamp said...

I think people are under the misconception that Jake keeps a full-time personal assistant on his payroll. I don't think he does. The former PA, the blonde, was his PA during the Zodiac shoot. He's had other PAs during other film shoots as well, most notably one of Kirsten's best friends was his PA on BBM.

agent_krycek said...

Bit more info on the event Jake was at (sorry, it is from Perez - hangs head in shame)

I saw Jake (Gyllenhaal) today! It was at a scholarship luncheon for LA Conservation Corps near downtown Los Angeles, and I was surprised to see Jake Gyllenhaal as a special guest presenter. He introduced two of the scholarship winners, both who overcame some crazy ass odds to graduate from high school (one had a crack dealing mother, abusive father, grew up in foster care and was a drug dealer at 15 but has completely turned his life around due to this organization). Jake befriended one of the students while spending time at the LA Conservation Corps researching a role. Oh yeah, Wilmer Valderamma, Rapper Xzhibit and first lady Maria Shriver were there too. Pretty cool, and for a very awesome cause.

Love how the others are just an after thought, the girl has her priorities right ;-)

sass said...

Good grief, TY UV and FL, a girl can't take a minute off on this injured Jake watch:)Love the new pics you posted after I left last night:):) though I hate that he is still not well.
I hope he's getting the best treatment and is getting better.
It looks like he is adding gadgets with each doc visit; he really was overdoing it a bit last week walking the green market with Reese. But what's a young athletic man supposed to do?

At least he didn't pair his Crocs up with his birdie flannel shirt.

Glad he is smiling still. Yeah, I heard him tell the paps that his relationship with Reese is hilarious yesterday. I didn't think about him talking about it at all...the comment cracked me up...you know how he said in an interview that he thinks of phrases and word to inject when he is on junkets etc. to keep him from going nutso...I thought that was what he was up to when he said hilarious.

agent_krycek said...

Wasn't it X17online that had that video of Jake and what I thought at the time was his assistant because she wasn't identified? Well when the video was posted again and you actually heard her speak, it sounded like Reese.

I've never been able to figure out whether it is Reese or not, but, I've just gone and had another look and noticed something I'd never noticed before, right at the beginning the, err, larger gentleman in the hat is actually shielding the girl in the white top, you can just make out her saying something to Jake, and then going out of shot - in that brief bit they're both standing on the same level and she is exactly the same height as Reese, I'm pretty sure the blonde PA woman is taller, having seen her in a car with Reese.

Anonymous said...

Agent K I have never doubted that it was Reese in that video even when it first came out.

gyllenspooner said...

I think the blond was Reese, and yes x17 has misidentified her before.

I haven't seen the blond PA in a while --- I think he kept her around during the whole 'are they or aren't they' phase of the Reese-Jake relationship. You know, to throw people off. But she's no longer around. How long do people stick around as PA's anyway? It seems like a demeaning type of job with no future.

Also, if it was his PA, she'd be driving and he'd be resting his ankle. He likes to drive when he's with Reese. Therefore I think it's Reese.

After all, these two are together like everyday now, is it so hard to believe that they were together again?

Verdublusm,

Yes it was the first time Jake acknowledged Reese as his girlfriend.

P.S. Am I the only one who liked the CROCS?

shondra said...

Ooooh! Another video mystery, I feel like Nancy Drew!

I looked at it and it has to be Reese, if it was a PA she would be sitting up front, not Jake. (If he needed help).

And no way that was some random chick wandering by because of all the confusion going on around his car, and also the blonde is clearly going for the car door.

I agree that Reese was in the car waiting and when the paps followed him and descended like vultures she probably had the attendents tell them to get lost.

Thanks for the link to Perez (yeah I know), I love the persons description of the event.

PS: That was Reese in that video last year.

Anonymous said...

I don't think Jake's "hilarious!" comment was a direct response to the "How's the realtionship goin'?" I think it was his general comment or observation on the papparazzi's behavior. I watched it three times and that's the impression I have.

agent_krycek said...

I'm sure it's Reese at the car as well, and as for X17 not identifying her, if they can't tell what cafe he's walking out of with the sign right behind him, I've no doubt they can completely miss Reese.

extra said...

Also, they were following Jake from the Doctor's office to his parked car, no Reese. Once they got to what I assume is the parking garage it looks like the parking attendents descended on them right away, even putting their hands up in fron of the cameras, too quick for the dumb paps to notice Reese quietly slipping around to get in the back door.

That said, once she got in and they drove away, you would think that X17 would have posted that unless they are leaving that for another day like they duid the pics from Sunday.

gyllenspooner said...

This all brings up an interesting question:

If I were a speculating woman, and you all know that i'm not ;) I would ask myself why Reese would go to the doctor's office with Jake?

Is it possible that Jake's doctor's visit had nothing to do with his foot at all?

Just saying.

Discuss.

gyllenspooner said...

Question: are blood tests not required before a wedding?

Office of Nancy Pelosi said...

Oh Gyllenspooner you are making this too much fun! I remember last year when they were having fun with the paps with the going into that Medical building seperately stuff!!

They could be doing that now, if it was something, um serious I would think they would go to a private Doctor's office, not a place swarming with paps.

But then again it's all so odd, last week we see them together at that Farmer's Market and he has his foot is clearly injured but he is walking around, then he has one crutch, then the next day he has none and is limping, then we see him in that garage and from lokking at the video he isn't limping but his sneaker is untied indicating he can't lace up, then WHAM! we get him on two crutches and smiling as he leads the paps to the garage where he is parked.
The crutches could be all part of it but I jsut don't know.

And I don't care what anyone else says, that is no way his PA or she would have been waitng in the drivers seat to drive. There is a possibility since he did have an event later on but if she was there with him at the Doctor's office then she was useless since it looked like he was driving himself, so I chhose Reese, and them playing with the paps again.

gyllenspooner said...

I don't think they were "playing with the paps" when they came out of the medical building last year together...

Well, you don't want to know what I think they were doing there --- it would require a parental notification label. There may be children reading this.

gyllenspooner said...

...But I think it was related to [whispers] sex.

UltraViolet said...

Apparently Jessica Biel will be in Columbia tonight for a Nailed party. No word on whether Jake will be there, as well.

I'm giggling at all the speculation. And really giggling at FL's description of FarmerJake.

Also, I decided I don't hate the crocs.

UltraViolet said...

Oh, and I forgot to say that I agree with the anon who posted that "hilarious" was not Jake's answer to "How's the relationship going?"

I think what he said was "You're hilarious."

And I do think that's Reese with him in the video, though I'm surprised she wouldn't be driving.

Anonymous said...

Question: are blood tests not required before a wedding?

California does not require a blood test before marriage. Not many states do anymore.

Anonymous said...

They said Jake befriended one of the scholars when he was researching for a role, does anyone know which role that could be. Do you think it's for Nailed.

bobbyanna said...

I agree, it is definitely Reese slipping into the car. I think she chose the backseat, bcz it was easier to execute slipping in unnotice with the building people shooing away the paps! The paps should start being ticketed. They were on private property.

I also think we're kind of passed all that PA stuff ...for the time being...I'm just glad Reese is taking him in hand about this foot injury. I can just see her getting all "Mama Bear!"

I forgot. They were going to that bldg. a lot last summer. At least three or four trips we know of. I thought maybe it was related to counseling, maybe helping the kids, the trauma of divorce, etc.
but maybe not. Maybe it was for...
(whispers)ob/gyn...or maybe they both have the same dermatologist...

I also think it's possible that Jake needed to get his regular medical check up for insurance purposes for his next movie. And she went with him just because. Does she really need to have a reason LOL!! If it were me, and he was getting ready to go to North Carolina to portray a sexually predatory Congressman with Jessica Beil as co-star in some movie, I'd be inventorying and cataloguing every inch of that man's body!:)

The movie could have been Brothers.

chica said...

I would be surprised if Jake showed up in Columbia tonight with his foot and all.

I love all the speculation here today, and I agree that is Reese in that video.

FluorescentLamp said...

More on the speculation train/5 second X17 video.

Could Reese merely have been opening the back door of the car NOT to get in but rather to make sure his crutches were laid out across the backseat? We never saw anything in the vid after that so we don't know if she got in the backseat (though I doubt it since the crutches were there) or if she went around to the passenger side of the car (which I assume).

Several years ago I used to shuttle a colleague to work post ankle surgery. While I drove and he was a passenger our routine every single day was: he hobbled to my car on his crutches, got in, I took said crutches and laid them out across the backseat, drove him home and did the whole process in reverse.

suvee said...

I bet that's Reese in the Medical Bldg. x17 video. It would help explain the vigor with which the garage attendants are going after the paps. I'm sure taking care of her man is something Reese takes seriously! Wonder what kind of patient Jake is..... brave and stoic or a baby? :)

As for those horrible crocs, I assume they are pretty comfy for an injured ankle. But they might just be Jake's fashion homage to friend Mario Battali...... who is known for his trademark orange crocs. :)

bobbyanna said...

LOL!! Suvee! I forgot about Mario's orange crocs! FL, I think your description about Reese is very plausible, indeed.

BTW: Watching E! tonight, The Daily Ten. Since I have never in my life watched Howard Stern, how would I have known Ryan Phillippe was on with him and discussed "The Break-Up."

Ryan apparently said they were just too young for marrriage. Right. But when he was asked, he said he was happy for Reese, wished her the best, and thinks Jake is a "good dude." So there.

UltraViolet said...

Ooh, Bobbyanna. Did they play it on the Daily 10? I've been dying to hear someone ask Ryan about Reese and Jake. God bless Howard! I'm not a fan, but I do love that he asks these questions!

gyllenspooner said...

So Ryan still likes Jake, hey. Am I the only one who thinks some people are too hard on Ryan?

He made a mistake, but I don't think he's bitter about it all. He doesn't whine and act all childish the way Ethan Hawke did or others.

You realize though, this is officially the first time someone with inside knowledge has confirmed the relationship.

UltraViolet said...

Exactly, gyllenspooner, which is why I asked Bobbyanna for the details. I always kind of figured it would be Ryan who did. But I am curious about what exactly was said, if it was a direct confirmation.

gyllenspooner said...

Hopefully we can get a transcript of what he said exactly. I doubt he wanted to dwell on it too much, but you know how Howard can be.;)

get real said...

I just turned on the Howard Stern replay (I am a Howard fan) and it was just on the Ryan interview. Ryan did say Jake was a good dude and seemed to really mean it and that he was a good guy to the kids. Really nice.

UltraViolet said...

Thanks, get real! I hate to harp, but can you tell me exactly what Howard and then Ryan said? Did you take it as a "Yes, Jake is dating my ex" confirmation?

I ask only because the Haters will.

UltraViolet said...

Also, damn it, am I going to have to think well of Ryan P now? I find him dull and boring and kind of stupid. But I might have to reassess...

bobbyanna said...

LOL! UV, I have similar problems with Ryan. I think of him as a sour, self-absorbed, humorless, emotionally immature, conceited little boy of 32. But I am not a Ryan Hater. No, really.
Where can we find this interview? Is it possible to re-listen to it, Get Real?
Ryan said Jake was good with the kids???!!!!! OMG. I bet they are gonna get married.

Anonymous said...

I find him the same way bobbyanna. Not to mention a story he's brought up during his movie promotion rubs me the wrong way.

He said that after he graduated from high school, he contemplated serving in the first Gulf War (1990-1991). He would've graduated in 1992. I was wondering if he perhaps meant something else and I was misinterpreting, but it really seems like he's making stuff up for promotional purposes.

get real said...

Okay, they are talking about him working with Clint Eastwood and how the tabloids/blogs have gotten crazy in the last few years. So Howard says, yeah I see Reese with Jake Gyllenhaal in pictures on the beach all the time. Robin (Quivers - Howard's sidekick) says it that hard to see and Ryan says no, honestly he isn't jealous. He says he loves Reese and that he is happy for her. Artie (Lange, another sidekick) says it would only be harder if the guy wasn't good to the kids but that Jake seems like a good guy and Ryan totally agrees and says, twice, Jake is a good dude. Howard says I would keep an eye on Jake and Ryan laughs and says why because of Brokeback and Howard laughs a bit and says yeah jokingly. Ryan was like no. Ryan seemed very genuine to me. Howard's joking was a bit annoying but I don't think he meant it in a bad way, just kind of funny. I love Howard and he was always supportive of BBM. More importantly Artie, who I love but can be homophobic was the one who said Jake seemed like a really good guy. And Ryan was just very cool and again genuine about wishing Reese happiness and he said she was and that Jake was a really good guy.

Bobbyanna, if you have Sirius, the Stern show is on channel 100 and today's show reruns at midnight.

UV, I was surprised that Ryan did seem okay. Robin loves Jake btw.

gyllenspooner said...

I think we should all make a resolution: I think we should ignore the haters and stay away from their web sites permanently.

After all, there are really very few of them. So we know they are not representative of Jake fans generally. And in all honestly, their sites aren't that much fun. They are simply boring and repetitive with the same stupid thing. Then there is all the negativity and bitterness. All they do is attack Jake, Reese, us, anyone who doesn't agree with them.

When i'm there I think to myself shouldn't "fans" of Jake actually, you know, like him? It's weird. Also, I can't imagine that they are having as much fun with all of this as we are.

That's why I like this place so much. We have fun here. We are respectful of each other and have a good laugh every now and then, *cough* plaid shirts *cough*.

These past two or three days have been so much fun here --- just speculating and acting silly. I bet you we have a much better time discussing Jake here then they do elsewhere.

I strongly support your policy UV of not talking about other sites or people, and I hope i'm not crossing the line here. But I have vowed never to visit any of those sites ever again. I will never respond to anything they write on neutral sites. I will pretend they don't exist.

I can't imagine any intelligent person could deny what's right in front of their face. If they so choose to continue to deny it, it's because they are trying to hurt our feelings or are too bitter about it all. The problem is theirs, not mine.

Therefore i'm not going somewhere i'm not welcome.

Thanks for listening. Feel free to erase if you feel this post is too inflammatory.

gyllenspooner said...

get real,

Thanks for that. I don't know, but to me Ryan sounds like a good guy.

bobbyanna said...

Anon 9:58, I get the impression he might say anything he thinks you want to hear. I'm not a big Ryan fan. There is something...unreliable and fickle about him...IMHO. I just wouldn't want him in my foxhole!

UV, they didn't play any of Howard's show on the Daily Ten. I just got that brief piece of info.

suvee said...

"Also, damn it, am I going to have to think well of Ryan P now?"

Well I'm in the same boat, UV. I've never had a particularly good impression of him until now. Guess he just earned a re-evaluation on my part.

I'm really thrilled that he spoke well of Reese, and most importantly, Jake. Good for him...... a lot of ex-husbands would not have done the same in Ryan's position. I think Ryan publically giving J & R his "blessing" sends a message that's hard to ignore.

TY, bobbyanna and get real!

UltraViolet said...

Thanks for the details, get real! I'd love to hear a recording of it, but I don't have Sirius.

It's annoying that Howard felt the need to make a BBM joke, but I'm glad Ryan didn't take the bait.

And it certainly sounds like confirmation to me. Not that we needed it. And not that the haters will acknowledge it. But I love it!

And I'm not going to delete your post, Gyllenspoon. I agree - we're all better off not engaging them. That includes here. So we'll leave it at that.

Ryan annoyed me with his "I wanted to kill myself" hyperbole about the divorce. If it's true, he shouldn't say it, since he has kids who might hear it. And if it isn't true, then it's clear he shouldn't say it.

But I give both him and Reese props for handling the divorce with class, and for always putting their kids first, it seems. And now, I have to give him props for being kind about Jake. Good on ya, Ryan

"I think we should all make a resolution: I think we should ignore the haters and stay away from their web sites permanently. "

I have weaned myself off them - one by one. They're so predictable. Same lame "jokes" (Will and Grace: yawns...) and comments. I'm sure there are only a handful of them but they jump from board to board, copying and pasting. A new sets of pics sends them into orbit - which can be quite entertaining, :D. But their negative energy is ultimately unpleasant. I also enjoy the way they have to keep putting the "break up date" back... and back... and back....

Let them stew in their own venom! It's sad.

If I have offended anyone, please accept my sincere apologies. Obviously, I'm not a fan of Ryan's. But I realize there are some people who like him and I respect that.

UltraViolet said...

No need to apologize, Bobbyanna. You didn't say anything that bad!

Oh, and Gyllenspooner, I forgot to say thanks for the nice words about the blog. It's been a fun week. And evne if none of our speculation comes to pass, we will still have fun.

Because being a fan of someone's should be FUN.

I also enjoy the way they have to keep putting the "break up date" back... and back... and back....

I can see it now. "They are only going to stay married until the Golden Anniversary release of the Rendition DVD!" :)

You are welcome, guys! Sorry it was a kind of jumbled, run on post. Was trying to write it from memory, lol.

"I get the impression he might say anything he thinks you want to hear."

Me too. This Howard interview for example.

"And if it isn't true, then it's clear he shouldn't say it."

He said that after the divorce he wanted to kill himself and couldn't get out of bed for 5 months. After their divorce there were pictures of him out at night clubs. Is this the real reason why he dislikes the paparazzi? Because it makes it harder for him to lie about his whereabouts?

There's this dishonesty about him and the fact he can be so without feeling guilty about it. It's hard to take anything he says seriously.

Btw, Reese will be on American Idol's Idol Gives Back to highlight the work being done by the Children's Defense Fund. It's an organisation she's been involved with for awhile now.

I know nothing about Ryan other than what I read here and there. But he was good in 54.

Or maybe it was the music. Not sure.

That being said, it was lovely to hear he had nice words to say about Jake. Then again, who would have a bad word against him??

Pedro's videos always make me go...aww. So glad he had another nice experience seeing Jake. Love hearing that.

This sounds very intriguing, where can I watch Pedro's videos??

agent_krycek said...

That was nice to here that from Ryan. I'm not particularly a fan, quite honestly I've never been that aware of him before the Jake & Reese hook up, plus he's got that pouty mouth thing going on that irritates the living daylights out of me, but I have always admired how Reese & Ryan have handled their breakup, and the fact they always put the kids first - for whatever Ryan's sins may have been he still wants to be and is a major presence in his kids life.

Anon 4:39 - the link to the Pedro video is in the comments on the last post here, or it's on IheartJake in the Gyllenhaalics section.

Hey there agent krycek, thanks for the directions to the Pedro video, I found it and it's superb! Loved it, thanks a lot!

I think Ryan's "depression" after the split was linked to the very harsh press he got and not to losing Reese, as he implied. I'm pretty sure of that.

It can't be easy to be in the middle of a firestorm like that, for anyone.

That being said, I still think Ryan has tried to make things right with both his kids and with Reese. I think Reese and Ryan should be strongly commended for how they have handled a bad situation, and I think it's the reason their kids seemed to have adjusted well to the whole situation.

No matter what else happened or happens, he should always be praised for that.

I suppose Ryan also confirms that Jake spends a good deal of time with his kids. He seems to be suggesting that Jake is good to them, which is good for Jake.

This just seems to be a clip from Ryan's inyerview, we need to find the transcript!

Don't you think it's a little passive aggressive for Ryan to (1)go on the Howard Stern show and (2)talk about Reese and Jake's relationship??
He went on the Howard Stern show once before and she was very upset by it. Secondly, the fact that he talked about it at all is not something she would like. I also hate to be a cynic but in my opinion the reason he spends so much time with his kids is so he won't have to pay child support and for good publicity.
Can you guess that I don't like Ryan??

shondra said...

I haven't heard the interview but it sounds like it was Howard that brought Jake and Reese in regards to the media, etc.

Reading what get real posted a few of Howards sidekicks Robin and Arnie made a few comments as well.

Afternoon peeps,
I turned on my telly this morning and watched Ryan's interview on Good Morning America.

It occurred to me that I have never seen much of Ryan, on television or anyplace; he has had few movies to promote.

I thought, after his excellent turn in Gosford Park, that he would get a chance, but it took Clint Eastwood to bring him back to the forefront of acting.
Ryan's career was stalled, but with this movie, Stop-Loss, he may have a winner.
He comes across as charming and affable, especially when he talks about his children, and his astonishment at having an 8 year old daughter.
This morning he told the interviewer...I didn't recognize that person...that he was doing well now, that he and Reese just got married too young, and that he was looking forward to his future.
Back soon... off to read and Jake:)

Ryan is on Conan tonight. I like that he says positive things about Jake. Just goes to show us once again, how inaccurate most news reports are, on actor and celebrities that we know and like.
xoxoxo

gyllenspooner said...

I think "Stop Loss" looks pretty good myself.

BTW, I think Ryan can act in a selfish way sometimes, but I think he genuinely loves his kids.

agent_krycek said...

I can't agree Anon 10:07 - I don't have much of an opinion on Ryan, he never really figured on my radar before, but from what I've seen he's always struck me as a hands on dad who loves those kids and wants to remain a strong presence in his life, and Reese wants him there as well, Jake is not a substitute dad. Given the earning potential of a Hollywood star, not to mention Reese's earning power, I very much doubt child support enters into the equation at all.

Well, it's a certain little lady's birthday tomorrow, will we all be wearing hats, just in case ;-)

I agree, Agent K. Ryan has always been a hands-on father. I don't think you can fake that kind of thing for too long.

If you go to Ryan's IMDb board, there's a link to download the Stern interview.

One little thing: Ryan says Reese seems happy. That made me smile :)

And yes, we'll all have or party hats on tomorrow. Hope it's a good day for all!

Ryan Phillippe: Jake Gyllenhaal is "a Good Dude"

sass said...

OMG FL, I'm speechless...love your hat!
Ryan's Jake's a good dude quotes are dropping in my mailbox right and left.
I am glad he's taking the high road, since he is the only person talking about the cause and effect of it all, and most especially since they have two beautiful kiddos.

Hey peeps,
Reese is how old tomorrow?
xoxoxox
Fun all round here... 24/7/365:)

I remember the rags last year trying to stir up crap between Jake and Ryan. Not that I needed confirmation that it was BS, but it's nice to hear that Ryan is Ok with Jake and Reese and with him and his kids I should add, thanks for the link UV!!

I hope everyone has a Happy Easter!!

bobbyanna said...

I hate to sound cynical, but really, what is Ryan supposed to say. "I can't stand Jake. I hate the idea of him being around my kids. I get very jealous of him building a relationship with Ava and Deacon?" I think Ryan saying Jake is a good dude is probably the most neutral thing he could say.

It wouldn't surprise me if he felt very insecure about another man spending quality time with his kids. That would be the normal reaction.

My other point is that when Reese and Ryan announced their break-up, the negative reports were about Ryan.

Everyone seemed to know that he hung out at clubs, liked to party with his posse, and he cheated. Apparently it was common knowledge in H'wood.

There were reports that: a)he had his own apartment, b)they lived separately, c)he was seeing Abbie Cornish, d)he cheated when he was in Toronto shooting Breach, and Reese rushed there with the kids to "clean up" the PR mess and pose for pictures.

The general impression was she was doing everything she could to keep their problems OUT of the tabloids, and hoping for a reconciliation, and he just wanted it to be over.

So it would stand to reason, that on the advice of his management, he'd be open and honest and share what he could in public, to improve his image.

So he says things in public like, Abbie had nothing to do with our break-up. She is a friend. Reese and I were just too young. I wanted to kill myself. I stayed in bed for five months, etc., etc.,etc.

One minute he is saying he was married to "the highest paid actress in Hollywood..." the next he gets defensive and sensitive with Howard and crew and says, "I do pretty well myself!"

I just take what he said about Jake with a grain of salt. I believe he is being honest when he says he thinks Jake is a good dude. I believe he is stating the obvious when he says Reese "seems" happy. But I don't really think he is celebrating or comfortable with any of it.

At the risk of generalizing, or speculating,(!) I just think he's one of those guys who resents it when things go well for his Ex. No matter how good his life might be, he will look at the glass half empty, and Reese's as half full.

He just seems self-absorbed and petty to me.I say this based on nothing at all! But to be fair and balanced, I think he is a very involved, hands on loving parent. He loves his kids. And he wants the world to know that. That is no small thing. So I do respect him for that. He is just not a guy I would ever date.

If this subject is off limits or out of line in any way, please feel free to delete it. I just wanted to "explain" my thoughts on Ryan...since he started it! :)

Reese had a pretty unhappy life. There were rarely pictures of them out together as a couple like there are of her and Jake.
Thanks LG.

Narcissa said...

"Wikipedia's featured article today is about Reese."

Maybe because it's her birthday?

I've noticed before that whenever Ryan gives an interview, the bulk of it tends to be ignored, while the press jumps on his brief references to Reese.

bobbyanna said...

God point, narcissa. I guess he is going to have to keep working really hard to define himself, not in the context of his relationship with Reese. Clearly, there was a professional imbalance there. He is an individual and as time passes, people will look at him differently then they have in the past.

Anonymous said...

When Reese does interviews, people know what they are not allowed to ask. Maybe Ryan needs to stop rehashing his break up and move on. Set some ground rules.

office of nancy pelosi said...

The producers of Stop Loss can't be to thrilled that the focus is on Reese and also Jake instead of the movie he supposed to be promoting.

Happy Easter and don't eat too many jelly beans!

Narcissa said...

Against that, there is the possibility/risk that if Ryan does not mention Reese in his interviews, the press will completely ignore them.

josie said...

To be fair, it was Stern that bought up Jake and Reese, not Ryan.

That said he did talk about the reasons why the marriage failed. He has appeared on the show several times before and he always talked about Reese and himself and the kids. He should really concetrate on promoting his movie and tell the interviewer ahead of time : no personal questions.

Although he did say nice things, I do think Ryan shouldn't have commented and made it clear Reese was off limits to talk about, as Reese has clearly done about Jake in her recent interviews.

Happy Birthday Reese. And those are some cute piglets.

All of this promotion from the ex has made me appreciate Reese's interviews all the more. Her main purpose is actually about the movie she's promoting, not detailing why their marriage broke down. Why does that need to be made public knowledge anyway? Leave it between the two parties involved.

What cute pics and her stomach is noticible there too, just saying!

Don't be too hard on Ryan. I am sure Reese still cares about him, and wishes him good. no matter what he is her children's father. keep things between them is good. but saying some good words to Jake and Reese, no harm done.
