Wild Thing

Looks like we won't have to wait too much longer to see Jake Gyllenhaal and Bear Grylls taking on Mother Nature. The Discovery Channel has scheduled Jake's episode to kick off the new season of Man V. Wild on July 11.

MAN VS WILD will test how Gyllenhaal measures up to unpredictable and unforgiving Mother Nature. For two days, Bear and Jake embark on a survival experience neither will forget, to an Icelandic landscape dominated by mountains, huge glaciers and some of Europe's most active volcanoes. Jake will have to go where Bear goes, eat whatever Bear eats, and on occasion even take the lead, if he's going to cope with some of the worst conditions known to man. "For me, it's all about discovery," said Gyllenhaal.

Said Bear about the experience, "The wild is always very revealing -- not only physically but mentally. You've got to smile when it's driving horizontal hail and be able to face your fears and just get on and do it -- and on both of those accounts, Jake came up strong."

In what one hopes was a less intimidating excursion, Jake attended a U2 concert in Anaheim on Saturday:

He does look like he just saw a bear in the second one!

Jake looks more at ease with Mr. Grylls in Iceland than trying to get to his car after the U-2 concert!

Thanks for the airdate for Jake's episode, I can't wait!

bobbyanna said...

(((Tweety))) LOL!

Yeah, it looks like he was having trouble seeing. I think they were shining lights in his face or something. That has to be very annoying.

UV/monica, thanks SO much for the pictures and news. I'm SO excited to see this even tho, before he and Jake teamed up, all I ever knew about Bear was his name, and that he did ridiculously dangerous stuff...and had gross eating habits. : )

UltraViolet said...

LOL, Tweety. It's true. He looks grizzlier, too!

I had the same impressions, Bobbyanna. Guess we're about to learn more.

I added a few more new pics - yay! And granted, this is from a Discovery Channel publicist, but still:

Its a great Ep folks!

The first picture shows that Jake was having a great time!

Love the name of this post, LOL!!!

That has to be annoying ( the paps ) glad they didn't get any good pics.

I never heard of Bear Grylls until Jake filmed this episode, can't wait until it airs!

Well I've marked my calendar for July 11th. I can't wait to see Jake on Man Vs Wild tackling the wilds of Iceland

Sitting in the seat Jake gyllenhal was sitting in five seconds ago #dying

Just saw Jake gyllenhal at Urth cafe #speechless #whatthefuck #mylifescomplete

Found a link on Twitter to an Article about Peter writing and directing "Born to Run" and speculation that Jake will star:

"With Gyllenhaal frequently spotted running across the Hollywood Hills, sometimes in the ‘barefoot shoes’ made famous by McDougall, one might consider him a definite possibility for the lead (incidentally, he is also about to appear in a celebrity episode of Man vs Wild with Bear Grylls).

"Chris McDougall himself has contributed to the mystery over which of the actors would feature:

"They’re keeping that one a bit under wraps for now, but [Jake's] involved. I’m not sure in what sense. But I will tell you that this dude is in unbelievable shape. We went up this mountain pass and this guy just blazed on by."

"Sarsgaard is currently looking for funding for Born to Run, which will be produced by Kathy and Frank Marshall. The aim is to shoot through the winter in Sierra Madre, Mexico."

Nothing new said...

That's all information that has been linked here, just strung together by Kate/WDW to make a "news" article. Nice to see it all in one place, but there isn't anything new in the piece.

Paula said...

I just love the first photo of Jake and Bear posted, what an incredible adventure!

Well the news about Peter and this film in news to me Nothing new, thanks Bobbyanna!

I can understand why Peter would be a bit nervous about having him star in something he will be directing and writing as well, but I can't see Jake in the lead. I've seen pics of McDougall and I can see Peter playing him.

Maybe Jake will help raise cash for the film.

UltraViolet said...

I don't remember that quote from CM about Jake, but the stuff about Peter and the movie was in the link Monica shared a few days ago. It will be interesting to see how Jake is involved.

But really, this is the kind of movie I want to see Jake making, not Born To Run. This headlinemakes me sad:

George Clooney's 'The Ides of March' to Open Venice Film Festival

I'm going to have to work on forgiving George for not hiring Jake.

BTW, Just Jared had bigger photos, so I put those in the post.

Well we certainly hear all kinds of rumors about what Jake's next project might be. It would be nice if Jake was part of the "Born to Run" movie, it certainly is something that is right up his alley. Be nice to work with his brother in law on his directorial debut. But I guess, like all the other rumors we hear, time will tell what Jake will be up to next.

Love the nod to the Troggs and Jimi Hendrix, Wild Thing!!!

The segment should be fun as long as Grylls doesn't drink his own urine, ewwwwww!~~

Jake does look like he was spooked by a bear in the garage/parking lot photo!

The Born to Run rumors sounds like the other sports rumored Jake movies : The Lance Bio and The Namath movie, we will find out soon I guess if Jake has any part in it.

Who wrote this article? I don't saw it on wet dark.

I remember this quote from the CM, Uv. I think he spoke in an interview or something, but this was after that trip of Peter and Jake to Leadville.
Well, I don't want to see Jake in that movie. I want to see Jake in other films, such as quoted above by UV.
I hope it's a great movie. George Clooney is a great filmmaker.

Last night I saw Bronson with Tom Hardy. Extraordinary performance.

bobbyanna said...

monica, the story I found was linked on twitter several times and I'm not sure, but it might have been Ain't It Cool news.

I'm sorry I didn't acknowledge your link from a couple of threads ago. This article seemed more focussed on Jake's involvement so I posted it.

UV, I feel bad about Ides of March, too. (They filmed some of it right here, a few miles from my house!) George is a fine filmmaker and I'm a fan, but I'm very disapppointed. I wish he and Jake could have done this.

bobbyanna said...

Oops. It was bleedingcoolnews.com, not "Aint it cool news."

Jake in an AFI Membership video.

And here's a snippet about Jake from Richard Kelly:

Elsewhere in downtown Los Angeles, a trio of name directors gathered at the L.A. Live Regal Cinemas for a “Coffee Talk” about their careers. “Donnie Darko” director Richard Kelly moderated the conversation, which also included “Zombieland” director Ruben Fleisher and “Salt” director Phillip Noyce.

Fleisher, whose sophomore feature “30 Minutes or Less” opens this summer, noted the challenge he faces with his next production: “Gangster Squad,” a period piece set in 1949, which is set for an all-star cast topped by Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin. Fleisher began pre-production on the project last Monday.

“The most successful actors are successful because they know their success is reliant on empowering the director,” Noyce told Fleisher. “That group you’ve got, they’re going to empower you.”

Kelly—who is currently developing his fourth feature, “Corpus Cristi,” about a soldier returning from Iraq—recalled working with a 19-year-old Jake Gyllenhaal on “Donnie Darko.” “He’s an old soul and would challenge me on every line of dialogue,” Kelly said. “The more you can invite the actors into the process, the more you can give them ownership of the characters. They can help police you, in a good way.”

Kelly asked Noyce, the oldest of the three filmmakers, if filmmaking “gets better” over time. Noyce answered in the affirmative. “Making movies is like drinking mature wine,” he said.

Also, Stephanie has new photos of Jake at Ammo today on IHJ.

I watch Man vs Wild, I really loved the episode with Will Ferrell!

Not to excited about the possible involvement with Born to Run, like you UV along with Bobbyanna and Monica I would have lived for him to be in Ides of March, too bad that didn't work out.

I liked Kelly's description of Jake as an old soul, I think I have heard that description of him before.

I'm off to checkout the AFI clip, thanks UV!

Thanks for the video of AFI, UV.

UltraViolet said...

De nada, Monica.

And Leonor, yay! You finally get to see Source Code. I hope you enjoy it.

Sass, it's kind of fun that we're getting Jake news. I thought we'd be in more of a drought.

Extra, I think someone else has said that about Jake. Interesting for someone as young as Richard Kelly is/was to say it.

UltraViolet said...

A little more from Bear Grylls:

He joked: "I have a rule not to take anyone who is fitter or better looking than me but I kind of let that slide and ended taking the fittest man in Hollywood."

Bear had to be "less reckless" after promising Jake's sister that he wouldn't take any crazy risks but admitted they still encountered some extreme situations.

He explained: "We hit these crazy storms. They were the worst storms they've had in Iceland in ten years. There was a jumbo jet blown sideways across a runway meanwhile I was up in this mountain with Jake being blown about like tumbleweed.

"For me it's great to take along someone who is really up for it like that and be able to push him as well."

And from Twitter tonight:

c_johns @mo_charmer he looks real nice in person. Real nice.

c_johns Jake Gyllenhaal just gave us beer advice. No one I'm with is phased by this.

That is great news Leonor, finally!! The movie is worth the wait.

Thanks for the heads up on the Man vs Wild episode with Jake.

Not being a beer drinker, I certainly never heard of Shark Beer. So I googled it and this is one image I got

http://www.maletis.com/pdf/BrandprofileLandShark.jpg

Jake is a beer afficiando? I'm glad he is passing his knowledge along. I wouldn't mind him passing along some of his foodie knowledge to me, like where the best places to eat are. going on a food tour with him would be awesome (of course I probably would be too excited to eat myself, but I'd be glad to watch him eat)

Oh, fun tweet, Bobbyanna. I wonder if Jake will like the movie. I saw it the other day and didn't love it. I was disappointed, given all the raves. But it's not terrible.

Lily, I think the tweeter said that Jake was just kidding around. All in good fun. I do remember he once said Stella Artois is his favorite beer.

Hi, Sag Actor!

Monica said...

I don't drink beer. Lately I'm just drinking water and juice.

I have not seen Midnight in Paris.

according to imdb tv listings SNL will be showing jakes appearance tomorrow night

sorry for the triple post:)

UltraViolet said...

No problem, Mary. Is this his hosting appearance or the brief Weekend Update bit from this year?

Chica said...

I've seen Midnight in Paris, the best thing in it IMO was Owen Wilson! I'm not a fan of his but I liked him i this.

bobbyanna said...

I plan on seeing 'Midnight' in spite of not beng an Owen Wilson fan. I'm expecting an 'homage' to Paris mostly, with some literary conceits thrown in for good measure. I do like Rachel McAdams.

I saw Cameron Diaz's bit on The Graham Norton Show, and she was very clearly, (cough!) very impressed with Bear Grylls. Now comes the announcement she's to do a survival episode with him. : )

Congratulations NY on the gay marriage vote!!

bobbyanna said...

That is a great find, UV! And yes, tweety, he is dorky-cute.: )

I'm just a little thrown by the date. I thought he did the Homicide episode in '94. He looks different in this picture.

Whatever, he definitely did the awkward adolescent thing well, and I'm not familiar with "growth spurts" since I had so few of them! LOL!

Chica said...

I think you are right Bobbyanna. He was 13 when he did the Homicide episode in '94 and he looked a lot younger than this pic.

He appears to be about 16-17 in this photo which would date this photo around '96-'97. Perhaps the person that posted it got the date wrong?

It's a cute pic (thanks UV!) but doesn't cousin Marika resemble Natalie Portman or is it just me?

mary said...

you are right chica he definitely looks older than 14at least 16/17

i thought the same thing when i saw the photo

bobbyanna said...

Yeah, I'd say 16-17.

"...doesn't cousin Marika resemble Natalie Portman or is it just me?"

Not just you. I thought it was Natalie for a second!

UltraViolet said...

Yeah, Jake doesn't look 14 really. But there was very little info on that tumblr post, so who knows?

We have a new post, finally :)
