At long last, Brothers?

Well, maybe a bit longer. According to Coming Soon, Brothers has a release date:

Lionsgate has set a December 4, 2009 release date for the Jim Sheridan-directed Brothers, starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman.

It's a long time (more) to wait, but maybe this means they do have awards hope for it?

Also, I'm hoping this isn't just a retread of last year's 12/4 release date rumor. Of course, that never made sense, since 12/4/08 was a thursday. But it's a Friday this year.

In honor of a good friend:

Hope you're smiling brightly somewhere tonight, Mollie.

I guess I'll just reply to myself :)

Since it's a slow news day, this is a funny post. But I'm including it for this semi-sighting:

My friend saw them (Jake and Reese) out getting coffee the other day and said they were just super low key and cute. Which made me happy.

Thank you so much for the Brothers news UV, I am really looking forward to that and really hope they keep to that date.

I hope this news is true UV, Decemeber is a good time to release this film instead of the rumored August release date.

Thanks for posting the news and for the link to the sighting!!

Fingers crossed!!! I hope this date is legit, I really want to see this movie.

Clicked on the link, love reading about the sighting but I love the cupcakes even more! Reese is a cutie and I love that she is so involved with the fight against breast cancer through Avon.

Oh please let this news be true! I'm dying to see Jake on the big screen again.

Catching up on the yuumy Jake pics and video from Pop and all I can say is WOW!!! He looks amazing and the footage that they teased us with looks really good, can't wait!

I love reading all and any sightings of J&R, thanks!

Since they mention Lionsgate in the article, I think it means that it will open in December. That would be an excellent time to open this type of movie if they are looking for Oscar buzz.

Thanks for the link to the "semi-sighting" of Jake an Reese!

That b&w photo of Jake is one of my favories as well

That's me, not enough coffee yet!

A poster on IMDB said it will open wide 4th Dec, that was posted before the comingsoon article.

Looking at the posters history all they seem to post is when films are opening.

Sorry link did not work, try again IMDB

Thankfully, finally a date for Brothers, been looking forward to this for ages!

Ah, this indeed is good news. If it's opening in December, then maybe it can screen at the London Film festival!

Great news ! I'm really looking forward to this movie. December is also a very good time for the awards season.

then maybe it can screen at the London Film festival! I'll certainly be keeping my eyes peeled just in case, would love to go if they do screen it there, not just because of the chance of Jake being there, but because I want to see the bloody thing!

And so it begina. This site says the date is 12/9.

I wish Variety would confirm a date.

Also, I dno't think I've seen this before: Jim Sheridan discussed the movie a bit.

SS: And tell me about your next film Brothers, which you’ve competed already. It’s based on a Susanne Bier film is that right?

JS: Yeah, Susanne Bier. It’s hard when someone has made an original movie as great as Susanne Bier…

SS: She was one of the dogme directors wasn’t she?

JS: She was one of the later dogme directors, she wasn’t one of the originals. But definitely a dogme director, like you know, handheld and edgy. But I thought it was a movie that should be seen by a bigger audience so we put a few stars in it and hopefully we’ll get a few people to see it…

SS: What is it about?

JS: It’s about the affect of the Afghan war on an American family. It’s got Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman, and a man who’s in Ireland at the minute, Sam Shepard, who’s amazing in the movie, great actor, and great fun to work with. They were all fun to work with; they were all easy to work with.

Forgot to say thanks for the support!

Also, I've been trying to figure out if Brothers can still play Toronto and/or Venice if it's waiting for a December release. BBM did that. Any other movies wait that long after festival season?

Of course, London works well for our Agent K and other UK agents :)

I wish Variety would confirm too UV. Hopefully this is some kind of confirmation and the official word will come from Variety soon!!

Thanks for the link to the Sheridan interview.

Well here's another one (if I'm not being to forward) (((((UV)))))

Thanks for the Brothers news. Now if they'd only give us a date for Nailed.......

UltraViolet said...

Never too forward, Sheba :) Thanks to you and to Josie.

Someone needs to bump into Jake and ask him if he knows anything about Nailed. And Brothers. And what movie he's doing next!

bobbyanna said...

I'm on it, UV. I'll call him tonight...

(Don't you dare wake me up!)

suvee said...

Let's just say that I'm not inclined to get overly excited at a rumored release date for any Jake movie at this point. I did enjoy reading J. Sheridan's comments about Brothers..... thanks, UV.

This may be a bit late, but it's no less sincere - ((((UV))))

UltraViolet said...

Bobbyanna, you're so good to us. The things you volunteer to do... in your dreams :)

Thanks, suvee :) And I'm not setting any stock in the date, either. But I'm hoping!

At least one poster on Nikki Finke's site had the same initial thought I did when I heard about this project: Young Blue Eyes

josie said...

Hmmm. I don't know about Jake, I can't really see him playing Sinatra. I also can't see Leo in the role as some on the site suggested.

A little inspiration from Jake? Reese at UCLA practicing softball in bird/t-shirt:

Scorsese may want Leo because he is his current "muse', but Nikki Finke updated her story and claims that Johnny Depp name has vome up!

according to movieweb brothers wont be released till dec 9 so who knows what the ral date is guess well just have to wait and see

UltraViolet said...

Yes, we posted that above, anon.

And Jake and Reese might dress alike, but Reese's bird shirt is much nicer than any of Jake's! The whole no plaid part helps a lot.

I don't know if Jake would make a good Frank, either, but he'd be better than diCaprio, I think. Johnny Depp could probably do it, if they aren't going to do young Frank.
