Training ground

Looks like we know what the train station will look like in Source Code. The Jake Gyllenhaal movie will film at the Ottawa train station in March. The station was selected for its "futuristic" design: "Built in 1966 and designed by John B. Parkin & Associates, it won a Massey Medal for architecture in 1967 and was named by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada as one of the country's Top 500 buildings of the last millennium."

The story in the Ottawa Citizen also indicates that Ben Kingsley will star in the movie. So Nizam and Dastan will reunite. The question is whether Kingsley is playing his usual villain.

Can Jake Gyllenhaal save our train station?

Found this Lego picture - I don't think we've seen this box before.

Sweeet! And Ben Kingsley, too. Shaping up to be a nice project.

I bet Jake did train research in Long Island.

Montreal is lovely in the Spring! LOL!

This is good news. I love glad Jake's projects attract top quality people. All the tweets I'd seen up until this point, have been about Jake replacing Tobey Maguire for Spiderman. I know it's not true, but the very notion of it is not appealing in the least!

Ben!!! I didn't expect that bit of casting, good news all around.

I can see why they chose that train station, it does have a futuristic feel to it!

Nice find on the Ottawa Station photos. Showcases the structure much better than anything on Flickr.

I'm not all that excited about Ben again. It seems like every third movie made has Ben Kingsley in it.

This is a gorgeous location - very sci-fi looking. What a beautiful train station! :)

It was a nice discussion about Edith Piaf. :)

Ben does seem to turn up in every other movie, LOL!! Cool pics of the Ottawa station, love how this movie is shaping up so far.

The chatter about S4 and Jake is just plain silly, plus he would be too old right now even is he was still interested (I hope not!).

They say they are going to re-boot the franchise, again to explore Peter Parker's teen years. I think they should pull the plug on the whole franchise at this point, S4 was crap.

I loved the Piaf discussion too!

I agree, FL - Ben Kingsley isn't much of a draw. It would be nice to see someone different, though I have no idea what the role is.

I wasn't excited when I first saw pictures of the train station, but these ones looked cool.

I watched Speed again the other night. I'd forgotten that Beth Grant is in it. Here's a great interview, where she goes through her most notable roles.

This is the kind of interview I'd love to see Jake give! Here's a brief excerpt, though there is more on DD:

But back to Donnie Darko. It’s now 11:30 p.m., I’m weeping thinking of Jake doing the part, I can’t wait to meet the writer, and I have no one to call because it’s too late at night. I look around and realize I’m standing in the middle of my bed. I had actually stood up in an effort to try to express my enthusiasm for this thing. By the next morning, I was like a hurricane blowing into the room. I knew exactly how to do her, because she was like my P.E. teacher in junior high. I even wore this funny little pointy bra, because I remembered that was the way she dressed. [Producer] Sean McKittrick told me later that as soon as I walked in with all that energy, they knew they’d found Kitty Farmer. Which is kind of embarrassing, because I wasn’t quite in character yet, I didn’t think. Richard said he didn’t want her to be shticky—which is always such music to my ears, because there’s a fine line between taking it to the edge and going over the edge. He said, “I want to take it as far as it can without going over.” And I thought, “That’s exactly what I just ordered from the universe!” So I read the Sparkle Motion scene: “Sometimes, I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!” Except I got the words mixed up and said, “Sometimes I doubt your commitment to miracles in motion!” They laughed hysterically because I’d screwed it up, and I said, “You have to give me this part!”

I like Ben Kinsgley and I am happy to know that they will work together again. But I would have chosen Gary Oldman.

A dream to see him work a day with Jake.

I love Sir Ben, but I'd love to see Jake work with ((((Gary))))also. :)

LOL! Priceless. And you're right, too! But I like him. Altho, I think Gary Oldman'd be even better.

Does anyone else have trouble when they click search on Twitter? I can't get mine to search for Jake!
(Not only Jake! it isn't searching period!)

Bobbyanna, Twitter is working for me, try again. Love the train station pics!

I don't mind Ben, but Oldman would be way cool!

I think the people talking about Jake as Spiderman still get them "confused" because they "look so much alike". No to both.
And as said if it goes to teenage years Jake couldn't be in the movie even if he was Tobey's twin.
There are still a number of people to be signed for Jake's movie, including the leading lady.
Gary was on Conan's show last night. Reading reading Daniel R. said he was so helpful to him on "Harry Potter"

Remember reading I meant to say.

Wow - Jake on the cover of the Ottawa newspaper!

Ben Kingsley - it would be great if he plays a good guy for a change. It gets boring seeing him always as the villain. But I will always have a soft spot for him because I loved him in "Gandhi".

I have read the Spidey rumours, but after the mess that was SM3 I am happy that Jake did not get the role. Perhaps now a young unknown actor will get a chance. And why should Jake be even interested anymore? He has some interesting films coming out and will start working with a great young director soon.

UltraViolet said...

Are you in Ottawa, Carla? I agree, Ben needs to play a good guy.

Gary Oldman doesn't work for me, Bobbyanna. We are picky!

Updated the post with a new Lego pic, at least I think it's a new one.

bobbyanna said...

My earliest recollection of Gary Oldman was in The Professional, where he was evil incarnate, and then when he was Francis Coppola's Dracula.

Ben Kingsley was brilliant in Gandhi. But I also liked Sexy Beast, Suspect Zero, Schindler's List, and the House of Sand&Fog. Those were some pretty powerful performances.

Makes you wonder who, from the next generation of actors under50, has the ability to be both a lead and a serious character actor.(hard to believe Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt, Edward Norton are mid to late 40's as is Robert Downey, Jr.)

I got Twitter search working, thanks, Tweety.

"Are you in Ottawa, Carla?"

No, I am in Germany, but I saw the scan on the main site - isn´t that the cover of the "Ottawa Citizen"?? Thats why I am impressed.

Gary Oldman - some kind of love/hate "relationship". "The Professional" comes to my mind (love Jean Reno!!) and has anyone seen "Romeo is Bleeding" and "The Fifth element"? He is some kind of "whacko evil".

I have to admit that someday I would love to see Jake playing such a character.

UltraViolet said...

I thought you were German, Carla, so I was confused. Yes, that is the front page of the newspaper. Big news in Ottawa!

I would also like to see Jake play a real bad guy, a true villain. Someday, we will, I'm sure.

Ben has become such a ham, but the script is kick-ass so I won't complain too much. Great choice of train station for S.Code, the pics are great!

BBM and Zodiac have been making a lot of best decade film lists which is great.

Love reading the interview with Beth Grant UV, DD is the film that made me a Jake fan.

Now Peter is going to be in a comic movie, what great news Monica! That should be a different experience for Peter that's for sure.

I like that LAFCA list, agree with most especially BBM , Zodiac and LOTR but Sideways? Really??

Thanks for link Monica, I have to think of an interesting Pop question for Mechner!

This is a no-spoiler zone! Leaving spoiler space does nothing, because you inevitably see the spoiler when reading the next post.

That was me above...

I'm surprised none of you took me up on my offer for "The Source Code" script. It is an excellent script and I have a lot of high hopes for this film.

I also have the script for Love and Other Drugs.

brothers spy said...

Ooops, sorry UV. It wasn't a major spoiler, just a character description.

UltraViolet said...

Not a big deal, but more info than I wanted to know and other people might feel the same so I deleted it. As always, if you want to discuss the movie in depth, you can go to our Jake spoiler blog.

Brothers Spy, a lot of people have already read the script, and it's readily available online. So I think anyone who wants to read it either has it or can get it.

UV,

Oh I didn't realize that. That explains it. It's still really good though and I think Jake has a winner here.

But I also have The Love and Other Drugs script if anyone is interested.

Watching again Batman Dark Night! Never tired of watching this wonderful film that should have entered the list of best of the decade posted above.
But it is in other lists!

Heath is perfect! I love him!
I miss him!

Me too.

I saw Inglourious Basterds yesterday. Amazing film!
Best of Tarantino after Pulp Fiction.
I have two favorites for this year: The Hurt Locker and Inglorious Bastards!

UltraViolet said...

The LA Film Critics movies are an odd assortment. Always happy to see BBM and Zodiac on the list, but Mulholland Drive as the best film of the decade? I don't think so!

I'm not really interested in Inglorious Bastards (I refuse to do the kre8tiv spelling), but I guess I'm going to have to see it for the Oscars.

Thanks for the info on Peter, Monica. Speaking of casting news... new post.
