All Aboard?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Michelle Monaghan will appear with Jake Gyllenhaal in Source Code, and Vera Farmiga is also in negotiations to join the cast:

Farmiga will play a hands-on communications officer controlling Gyllenhaal as he travels through time and space. Monaghan is a woman on the train with whom the man is involved romantically.

(Photo strip shamelessly stolen from The Film Stage. It's too late for me to try to make one of my own!)

Not sure how I feel about this. I wasn't crazy about Monaghan in Gone Baby Gone. And she doesn't match what I've heard about the character. OTOH, I loved Vera Farmiga in Up in the Air and The Departed, so I'm happy about her involvement.

A blog also posted some cool photos of the train station that will be used for filming:

She would not be my choice, but I'll give a vote of confidence, especially after reading about the last work of Michelle Monaghan in the cinema.

I am very happy with the choice of Vera Farmiga.

Great cast!

I pictured someone like Christina Ricci for that part not Michelle Monaghan, but a big yes for Vera!

I like they way this cast is shaping up. The Ottawa station looks perfect, great photos!

Thanks for the updates, UV. I like Vera a lot, too, OONP! Michelle, meh. I remember seeing her in Eagle Eye. Is'pose she'll be fine.

I wonder how they will handle Jake's character. As I understand it, he's an experimental special force type soldier Vera is managing, and he has to inhabit the person on the train?

So does that mean there will be a second actor for that character as well? Or am I missing something...(I'm dense sometimes.:))

suvee said...

Another big yes for Vera..... love her!

And Michelle M. is okay as far as I'm concerned. I thought she was fine in Gone Baby Gone...... that was pretty much Amy Ryan's movie anyway IMO.

Thanks for the casting update.

Ricci, Zooey Deschanal even Chloe Sevigny were the names floating around my head when I read the script. Michelle Monaghan was ok in Gone Baby Gone, maybe they decided to cast against "type" for the role.

I saw Up in the Air and Vera is fantastic so she gets a big thumbs up from me too!

Thanks so much for all the updates UV.

PS: From the previous thread: Brothers spy, I read the Source code script but I would love to read the LAOD script. You can send it to me at: jsjnsn2@gmail.com.

TIA!!

Not feeling Michelle either but I love the other cast editions. Thanks for posting the updates for this film so quickly UV.

OT: As you know Haiti had a devastating earthquake yesterday. It's one of the poorest countries and the damage and loss are massive. Please if you can donate any amount that you can to the relief effort through globalgiving.org:

If you can't, please send prayers to the people of Haiti. NY has a large Haitian community, most live in Brooklyn. Several co-workers have family there and they have not been able to contact them.

I don't mind Michelle Monaghan too much. She wouldn't have been my first choice, but she's okay. I often feel she's not been given the right vehicle for her talent. Maybe this will be the one.

Interesting choice of Vera Farmiga. Not only are they going against type, but going against gender for that particular role. I like it.

Also, that second b&w pic of the Ottawa Station, with the circular ramp, is truly a find. I can't get over how 50s it feels yet the station didn't open until after '66. Very cool.

Yesterday, after enjoying Batman Dark Night, I tuned into a channel that was showing a special about Kirsten Dunst.
I don't like her, but watched because of some new images of Jake for me.

In addition to beautiful images, I knew he was a strong influence for her, especially in the choice of such films as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It was good to know.

Brothers spy, I read the Source code script but I would love to read the LAOD script.
Me too. monicabrok@hotmail.com

I don't really want to see Jake with Chloe Sevigny again. For some reason, I always get a weird vibe from her.

Thanks for the continuing info about Source Code.

UltraViolet said...

I don't think of MM as being "edgy," which I thought was one of the character descriptions. That said, I'd prefer her to both Chloe Sevigny and Christina Ricci.

Your laugh for the day: Jake and Kate Hudson?

The news from Haiti is awful. The part of Boston where I grew up now has a large Haitian population, so I always feel a connection.

UltraViolet said...

Oh, I forgot to say that it's very cool they changed the gender of Vera F's character. Thanks for that info, FL.

mary said...

yea i find that hard to believe i just read yesterday some where that shes back with owen wilson again speaking of casting for source code seems that paul rudd has too

mary said...

i meant to say has joined the cast too

FL said...

Hmm, hmm, hmm...Paul Rudd you say? There are only 4 main characters in this film. I wonder...

Hmm...

mary said...

maybe i read it wrong was on imdb

mary said...

sorry i read the wrong article

FL said...

Dang. I was just getting used to the idea of Paul Rudd as XXXXX.

I really spoke a little too soon. There are two other characters pivotal to the story though not as central as the 4 already mentioned. Paul Rudd could have been an interesting choice for either, though he wouldn't have a lot of screen time.

bobbyanna said...

Thanks for the address, Chica! What a nightmare. They probably need everything, fresh water, food, hygeine products, clothing, etc.

I'm still wondering if there'll be two actor's playing Jake's character...Paul Rudd? IDK.

Kate Hudson? Eww! I actually got knots in my stomache!
OK. She and Jennifer Aniston, and Reese, are all really friendly, and Jake and Reese have partied with her before.

Meeting up for drinks with friends, going to a holiday party,I'm glad if Jake's out with friends and not all broody and solitary. (Hollywood's a friendly town.)I don't see Jake with Kate. I really don't. No. Uh,uhh. Just no. I mean...whatever! I respect his choices. I respect his choices, I respect...:(

There are certain plot points to Source Code that could be viewed as spoilers, so please be careful what you post. If you're unsure, best not to post it.

Sheba baby said...

Michelle isn't edgy but I liked her in other films so I'm ok with her casting and I love the casting of Vera. Thanks for the news that they changed the gender of the character Vera will be playing FL!

The pictures of the train station are amazing, very cool.

I had no idea that Jake influeneced Kristen in her decision on doing Spotless Mind Monica, I love that film. Kate should have won a AA for that role.

Horrific news out of Haiti, my prayers to them and their families.

Sheba baby said...

I forgot to add: thnaks for the link Chica, they will need all the help and support.

PS: Kate and Jake? I guess we are going to get stories like this. There was this blog that suggested them a few weeks back. It's none of your business but just, no.

Before the Grazia magazine story, there was this :

http://www.heebmagazine.com/blog/view/2450

UltraViolet said...

Nope, none of our business. And nope, I don't want her with Jake. :)

Monica, do you know what the Kirsten Dunst program was? I'd love to see it. I watched the E! THS on Reese just for the Jake mentions. And I wasn't a real Jake fan for most of the time he was with Kirsten, so I like seeing that old stuff.

I'm sure you've seen all the stories on Jake looking forward to his PoP action figure. Dolly Darko cracked me up.

Anonymous said...

From all Jake has said he would be looking for someone who would be in a relationship that led to marriage and a family..or at least kids..he wants kids..has always said he does.

bobbyanna said...

Kate and Jake have socialized in the same circles before,IF it really happened, and they're both flirty types.Jake's been flirting, and dating, and dealing with women hitting on him almost half his life. I'm glad he gets the attention!:)it doesn't bother me at all. Not at all. Really.

(Madonna went to dinner with friends in NYC. Sean Penn happened to be dining at the same place. He went over to her table, briefly, to say hello. For the next few days, gossip bloggers were saying they had a secret dinner together and might re-unite, etc. That's why I said IF it really happened.)

This one last thing: Kate's life generates a lot of media attention, and Jake's not into that stuff. When Kate's seeing someone, it always winds up in the media, with lots of insider, "anonymous" chatter, and She doesn't seem to mind. In fact sometimes she encourages it. (I'm being nice.:))

Anonymous said...

Jake was getting a lot of media attention when he was dating Reese and also Kirsten (a big star at the time). It's non of my business but maybe it's better to date someone not as famous next.

Paula said...

Michelle Monaghan is an interesting choice, not one I would have made but I have seen her in a few movies and she is a good actress.

I like the choice of Vera Farmiga!

The photos posted of the Ottawa station are amazing.

None of our business but just say no to Kate Jake!

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti, thanks so much for the link Chica.

UV, I think the name was Biography of the Space Channel.
The program showed some images of Jake in premieres. They showed also some images of him with Dunst.

If you visit the site of Dunst, find some pictures of Jake are not in the gallery of IHJ.

I remembered one thing: Vera Farmiga worked with Heath Ledger in Roar.

Shalom Sesame

Every episode is a blend of different elements: the street story of muppets and actors on “Rechov Sumsum”; animations created for this series; short documentaries about children in Israel; segments with American celebrities such as Debra Messing, Jake Gyllenhaal, Cedric the Entertainer and Christina Applegate; and relevant segments taken from the Sesame Workshop libraries.

I think it will be great!

Babblers all,
I don't mind MM, i just don't remember her as good but Vera Farmiga is a good actor whom I loved in departed. GO Jake!
Thanks for this post:)

• They may have split, but Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon agree about one thing: They both still like Lamill, a coffee house in Los Angeles's Silver Lake neighborhood. On Sundsay, the actor brought his dog Atticus to meet a friend for coffee on the patio, while Witherspoon brought her kids Deacon, 6, and Ava, 10, the next day to have lunch with a girlfriend. "They were sitting inside, eating, laughing over lunch," an onlooker said, "It looked she's a doting mom who didn't have a care in the world."

Hi Sass!!!

Michelle is OK, but the Vera casting has me really excited!

I'm really looking forward to this film, thanks for the updates.

Once again it's a kind of Reese is so happy now she got rid of Jake. The slant on this whole thing is that he wasn't worth having around and after almost 3 years she finally realized that?
As people live in the moment no matter a break up or anything serious you can still have fun moments but that doesn't mean things aren't difficult.
I think it's got to be a bit strange for both of them after all they always made such an effort to be together even if it meant a lot of travelling or even just spending a day or a few together then back to whatever work wherever they were.
Maybe she needs someone older an executive type or something that doesn't particularly want to be "esp. serious".
Jake needs to find someone who wants a family as much as he does, who will love him as much as he loves them.

The Hollywood interview... Director Jim Sheridan
The pairing of Maguire and Gyllenhaal is a stroke of genius, not just because of their similar features, but the convincing emotional shorthand they share. It's difficult to fathom that Leonardo DiCaprio was an initial contender for Gyllenhaal's role. "I had talked to Tobey and Leonardo for a few years about making a movie together," recalls Sheridan. "Leo was off doing something and Jake, I had always met Jake at Chateau [Marmont] around the pool, a lot of the time with Heath [Ledger].

"We became friendly; he wanted to do something with me and Natalie was the only one I didn't know. The boys knew her and asked Natalie and that was it."

Office of Nancy Pelosi said...

Thanks for the link to that article Monica. I did here that Leo was attached as well as Reese. Time passed and they went on to other projects. It was suppose to be Leo and Reese as Sam and Grace, but they never got around to casting Tommy yet. Would Sheridan cast Jake, Tobey or maybe Heath??

I read that Jake and Heath were looking to do another movie together. The Chateau Marmont, the place for parties, events and deal making! I wonder if this was around BBM promotion and PR?

Too bad thst Brothers didn't get the buzz that it deserved, I think it woulld have helped if it played a few festivals.

Tweety said...

I must be the only one here that actually likes the casting of Michelle! I think she will be fine plus it looks like Vera Farmiga is on board, yes!!

Love that interview with Sheridan Monica. I can't picture Leo in the role (Sam). Love the bit aboout Heath and Jake, thanks.

How can that be? I thought Jake was friends with the owner, Mario Batali!:

incognitocoffee: Saw Jake Gyllenhall get denied a table last night at Mozza
about 3 hours ago from web

UltraViolet said...

Hee - I saw that, Tweety. Maybe Mario figured if Jake couldn't be at ping pong (where apparently Peter Sarsgaard made a surprise appearance), then he shouldn't be allowed to dine!

Another Jake restaurant sighting, but from weeks past.

Thanks for the interview link, Monica. It's great to picture Jake and Heath hanging out at the Chateau Marmont pool.

I can't, however, picture Leo and Tobey as Brothers. Glad things worked out the way they did.

bobbyanna said...

"I had always met Jake at Chateau [Marmont] around the pool, a lot of the time with Heath [Ledger]."

This made me smile.

Thanks for the interview, monica!

That tweeter is mistaken. Jake denied???

Oops. Forgot. Tobey, Jake and Natalie were perfect casting. They made "Brothers" work. So was Sam Shpehard and Mare Winningham and the two little girls.

I was also happy and in tears after reading about Jake and Heath.

One more thing: Michelle Monaghan worked with Robert Downey Jr. in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

I love hearing about Jake and Heath hanging out. :')

I can't picture Leo in this role. It was all about Jake!

Still trying to catch up on all the Jake-news. Have been busy and out of the loop. Hope to change that soon, lol. Thanks to all for all the Jake info!!

And had to say I really like Vera Farmiga! Great actress and I think she and Jake will be great in a movie together. :)

And my thoughts are with the people of Haiti. Such a horrible tragedy and they need all the help they can get. I donated yesterday.

Reading about Jake and Heath at the pool made me really happy.

Heath was so young when he made Roar, still in his teens, I think. I like the idea of Vera and Jake trading stories about him.

Chica said...

I love reading Sheridan's interviews. So many interesting tidbits. I think someone posted here a while back about Leo being attached to Brothers, glad it worked out the way it did.

Love reading about Heath and Jake hanging out , put a smile on my fsce, thanks Monica.

Maybe the restaurant was full or close to being full and they had people ahead of Jake.
Maybe it did happen, maybe it didn't. Doubt if it had anthing to do with him being Jake -I'm sure he survived.

Many thanks for the American Red Cross link on your home page. I just used it to donate.

A co-worker of mine and his wife are Haitian.... as of this afternoon, he still had not been able to reach any of his family. Thankfully, his wife's family survived.

It was said in 2006 that Jake and Heath were going to film Sea-coast or something this way

I wonder if either Reese or Jake will participate in the Haiti Relief telethon George Clooney is putting together?

I don't expect Jake at the Golden Globes. They already announced the presenters.

Tobey will probably be there with his wife and the producers, and the people from Lionsgate. Jim Sheridan didn't get nominated either, so he may not go either.

Love how the cast of Source code is shaping up.

That's terrible, chica. And it's even worse when you realize how many people are going through that pain.

Glad the Red Cross link is working - I used it myself. One of the very few bright spots in this is how technology is helping. The numbers from the cell phone texting donation option are staggering.
