Sneaking a peek

Edited to add
: Empire Online has a couple more exclusive images from PoP. Me likey!

According to EW: For a sweet, glossy copy of the photo and other exclusive first looks, be sure to pick up this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly.

Check. Sweet and glossy gets delivered right to my door. But EW neglected to say there would be writing all over the sweet and glossy and that none of the background art would be included.

I guess that's the point. It does embiggen to huge proportions if you click on it.

In other news, how does a month and a half pass without me knowing Jake's made the big time? And by that I mean - 36 Across from the NYTimes Crossword on 6/8/09.

How cool is that!

Wow thanks for the scan FL, Jake loks mighty fine.

I wonder if Disney is saving all the artwork suvee described for roll-out later. This is a great action shot, but the other artwork sounds much more magnificent.

FL said...

But I do love the way his hair looks in this shot.

FL <---hair obsessed.

Thanks FL!!! Love how he looks but you right FL, Suvee's descriptions of the artwork were great.

Love the hair too!

Oh, how cool that Jake was in the NY Times crossword!

Have a great Friday everyone...super hot here.

Thanks for the scan FL, he looks sexy and badass!! I hope Jake saw that NYT crossword, that's awesome!

I just thought of something. Maybe Jake is growing his hair out so they can out the extensions in and they will dress him up as the PoP for ComiCon. I think it would be awful to make him do that. I hope that won't happen.

Thanks for the post, FL and greetings from across the pond. What a great site to sign on to see! This is a less magnificent shot than suvee described, but it's also very cool.

So I'm visiting London a year late for Jake sightings, but I did chuckle as we passed Whole Foods and other Jake spots.

I'll be away for Comic Con but I do hope Jake makes an appearance!

Oh, and yay for the crossword! I've been waiting and waiting for Jake to be in the NYT puzzle. It's only the Monday edition, but it's a start :)

Sorry about the weather at the moment, it's been dire since Wimbledon! Probably going to save the Aussie's in the Lords' Test Match (sorry, going into cricket land here).

And remember UV, there are more places in London then Notting Hill and Kensington ;)

Jake looks looooovely as Dastan, thanks for posting :D

IMO, the EW PoP photo is a good "first look" shot..... Disney wants to sell the tough action hero thing to those 12 year old boys!

FL, loved the NYTimes 36 Across find...... made me smile. Thanks!

MV and London?!?! I'm officially jealous, UV. Have a great vacation. :)

Yay for nice guy & nice dog sighting!

No problem on the weather, Agent K. It wasn't half bad today. Would have been even better if we'd gotten out earlier instead of lazing around. But it is vacation!

Sadly, it rained on some of our Cotswolds adventures, but not all of the afternoon. And I've finally seen Chipping Camden! Always loved that name.

Thanks for all the bon voyages :) I'm having a wonderful time.

I like some Coldplay songs but I don't think I'd want to see them live. They seem boring. Hope Jake enjoyed the show, though.

I'm off to France tomorrow, and I won't have a computer. But I'll be checking in :)

Have a good week, everyone!

Wonder if he's going to be in LA for a while because of Comic-Con. Tho there's not a big to-do for POP. They seem to be moving it along slowly in the same way they did "Pirates of the Caribbean".
Also since Reese has started filming again it seems he waits until things are settled. Then we'll be seeing reports and probably pictures of them in Philly.
If his next movie starts in the Fall (we hope) there will be things connected to that he will be doing.
Oh and it will work out fine with Iron Man 2 out in early May and POP toward the end of May.

bobbyanna said...

Thanks for the scan, FL. Love his look. I was smiling at the NYT crossword: "Jake." Very cool, and no last name necessary.:)

UV I'm hoping to do the UK and France next year. Have a great time. I'm with suvee on the "offcially jealous" roster.:)

Right now I am ready to collapse. Did brunch for 12 today and the last company finally left five minutes ago...!

suvee said...

Brunch for twelve, bobbyanna? That just might do me in! I did make a cold pasta salad today..... not the same, I know. :)

Thanks, tweety, for the Jake+Atticus sightings. I'd so love to see a new Atticus pic...... he appears to be such a great dog. But I'm probably biased..... I was a German Shepherd mom for 14 years.

OT (this in only slightly Jake related): my book club just read Columbine by Dave Cullen. It's a powerful and disturbing book. But it is also an incredibly well researched and comprehensive accounting of that tragedy. I recommend it.

Anonymous said...

Have a great time in France UV, hope the weather is better than the UK.

chica said...

Good morning Suvee,

I have read Columbine by Cullen. The book is a disturbing account of the events, very well researched as you said and written. I highly recommend it as well.

Speaking of authors Frank McCourt who wrote Angela's Ashes passed away here in NY yesterday. Anyone who hasn't read Angela's Ashes or his follw-up, Tis, please do. Heartbreaking, touching and sad are just a few descriptions of his memoirs of growing up in Ireland and New York.

RIP Francis, God bless.

Have a wonderful time in France UV.

Action figures and Lego's...yeah! My nephew is a master at Lego's and I bet a few PoP ones will get to him next year. ;)

So nice to hear of Jake and Atticus out and about. :D Hope we see some new pics of them together. It's been a long time and they are so cute and sweet together.

I am a fan of Coldplay so I think it is very cool that Jake was at one of their concerts.

UV, hope you are having a great time in Europe! FL, thanks for all the updates!

I saw Dave Cullen interviewed a few months back on the Rachel Maddow show about Columbine. He sure worked a long time on it. Sounds like a very thought provoking book.

RIP to Walter Cronkite and Frank McCourt. Both will be very missed.

Hope everyone has a decent Monday. I am tired after a busy weekend.

Anonymous said...

Action figures and Lego's...yeah!

What's this then?

bobbyanna said...

I remember very vividly, feeling absolutely wrung out by "Angela's Ashes." I read "'Tis" as well. Frank McCourt was a lovely man.
Columbine is on my list, but I have to mentally/emotionally prepare myself for it.

I think Ben Bradlee famously said that journalists write the "first rough draft of history" and I thought of that when I heard about Walter Cronkite.

He was very "old school" as far as dedication and integrity, (a very good thing!) but very forward thinking in realizing and appreciating the value of the internet.

I wonder. Is Atticus perhaps becoming a "country gentleman?" put out to pasture in Ojai? I bet he's thriving!

Wonder what Jake is doing lately?

suvee said...

Oh my. Now that is what I call an "OMG, I have to see this movie!" poster. This so makes up for the disappointing Brothers poster.

If you enlarge, you can even see the silver bead in his hair.

Monica said...

Good night, bablers!
Amazing!
Is much better than I imagined!

FL said...

suvee, does this look like something you may have seen previously? Earlier today I went back and reread all your impressions and descriptions from the artwork and hoped this was one of "yours". But it doesn't seem so.

suvee said...

FL, this poster photo is new to me. But it is much closer in tone and look to the style guide photos than the EW sneak peak pic, which seems a bit sanitized to me.

The hair and especially his facial expression in the Empire poster photo are very reminiscent of some of "my" photos. The red of the scarf is different though... the color has been intensified. Artistic license, I suppose. :)

Anonymous said...

This might sound "sick" but I'm obssessed with that tiny glimpse of body hair peaking out of his chestplate. Jake! Damn, he's hot.

Anonymous said...

Just wanted to add that on a couple of gossip sites, some people are complaining because they didn't pick a real Persian to be the Prince. Duu-uhh!

chica said...

I enlarged the photo Suvee, thanks!! These may not be the only poaters, probably teasers. I love the look of the posters, and he looks amazing as does Gemma, just wow!

People have been bitching since day one about Jake being white and shouldn't have been cast. If they actually played the game or seen pictures of Prince of Persia you can see that Jake looks like the character.

Anonymous said...

Ben Kingsley has his own poster too!

Nicole said...

The poster looks great. He looks so damn sexy....

People should stop complaining about Disney/Bruckheimer for not chosing a Persian actor. The movie is an adaptation of a videogame, and Jake looks like the character in the game. BTW,nobody in HW would really consider an unknown actor for such a big role.

Anonymous said...

Interesting is that the gamers mostly don´t complain - they are seeing the similarities between the Prince and Jake.

But all of them mention the fact that they are obviously going with the Warrior Within-look.

Ben Kingsley looks scary.......

Anonymous said...

Remember no matter what actor is going to play a role of a comic book character or game character there is the "He's all wrong" I won't see the movie - how dare they, etc. from some. Robert Downey, Jr. was all wrong for "Iron Man" - The Matrix will be a flop..it goes on forever.
If they want a "Persian actor" have them name one.

I like the look of his hair better in that second, more dramatic poster. It is shorter and more uneven. While I've always preferred Jake with shorter hair, it's a really good look for Dastan.

Sir Ben looks wonderfully evil and sinister! The posters for the three main characters are very intense.

"Probably the same morons who complained they didn't pick a real cannibal for Silence of the Lambs."
Poster JoeAnn, this made me laugh outloud. Sums it up well.

sheba baby said...

They are definately going for the Warrior Within version of Pop/Dastan and me likey too!!!

The hair, his profile the dramatic dash of red all perfect. I love Gemma's poster too even though it kinda looks like a perfume ad, LOL!

I wish some people would stop with the he ain't Persian shit. He looks like the Video game version of Prince of Persia, geez. Ben looks really creepy/scary there, I wonder if Alfred Molina has a poster as well?

Thanks for the Love and Drugs update monica, what an interesting choice to play Jake's brother!

I see the silver bead Suvee!!!

FL said...

I wonder why that peek of Jake chest/belly has been photoshopped and filled in on that new comingsoon.net poster. Interesting. The earlier poster wasn't PC enough??

Cinemablend

"If you're attending San Diego Comic Con later this week, you may have noticed that, for some reason, Disney has decided to forgo any presentations of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, their adaptation of the popular video game starring dreamy Jake Gyllenhaal and his abs. But even without that particular marketing bonanza looming, Disney is cranking up the gears for the Prince of Persia marketing. In the last week we've gotten the film's first official still, a series of teaser posters, and now, courtesy of Coming Soon, the first image of Sir Ben Kingsley as the film's villain.

Am I the only one who thinks maybe this means there will be something Persia related at Comic Con after all?"

I was thinking the same - fingers crossed!

POSTERS!!!! They look awesome!! So exciting...woohoo. Things are really gearing up. :D

Jake looks so much like pics of the video game character. Chica, I get totally annoyed at folks who are saying he doesn't look right for the part. Hello...he looks just like one of the games Daston's.

Gemma looks beautiful and Sir Ben looks appropriately scary.

I have a real feeling Jake/PoP will have something connected to ComicCon.

Thanks for all the info everyone!

Well there is. But it's more to do with the graphic novel than the film.

From Variety:

Things have changed so much that some stars and filmmakers actually have to be discouraged from attending the convention when they have nothing to show or the timing interferes with the strategic rollout of the film's publicity campaign. After announcing Zachary Quinto as the new Spock in 2007, J.J. Abrams wanted to tout "Star Trek" the following year, but the studio convinced him the release was too far out. Likewise, Disney sources claim they were contemplating a big debut for Jerry Bruckheimer's "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" with first-time attendee Jake Gyllenhaal, but decided to follow "Trek's" example since the swashbuckling adventure doesn't open until May 2010

Jake will be joining Reese and the kids in Philly by the weekend. They will be there all summer, Ryan has arranged to stay with near by family in Delaware so he can see the kids as scheduled and so that the kids can spend the summer with Jake and Reese as well.

All HW divorced couples with children should take a lesson from them.

Not making up facts. Owns a place in Hockensin/staying with family same thing. The bottom line is that the kids will be spending most of their time in Philly with Reese while filming, lot easier for Rian to be stationed in the Phillt area instead of schlepping back and forth from L.A.

Reese will be away from L.A. for awhile filming, all Summer. That's along time to have a nanny watch them and a long time for them to bbe away from their father. The arrangements were made months ago.

You can look at any graphic novel from a movie and the characters have the look of the movie characters but they rarely resemble them. (If that makes sense).
Why? I don't know. I'm sure there's a reason.

Anonymous said...

Maybe it's because few actors care to be "immortalized" as one character in print. Hopefully, most actors want to move on and play other roles. The ambiguity suits the creators as well.
