Let's talk about Jake!
Timely, topical and totally unverified information about Jake Gyllenhaal

That's some bad hat, hairy!
Clearly, Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton and Mike Newell lost some kind of bet and were forced to scout Prince of Persia locations in tragic chapeaux. Really, Mike has the worst of it, as he's sporting what looks like a bridal veil as a shawl, as well as the most ridiculous hat. But Jake is proving true to his word that he can't find gear to fit his huge head. Gemma looks all right.
Both Jake and Gemma look much better - and sexier - in this shot from the big PoP group photo.
Thanks to Monica for letting us know about some recently posted Disney videos promoting PoP. Here's one featuring Gemma:
Here's another good shot of the royal duo:
I'm sure you've all seen this Disney promo for the PoP DVD. You can't watch it and say that Jake was anything but a real trouper in shilling for PoP:
More from the Leadville 100 - you can spot Jake in this photo, once you embiggen it. He's to the right of the "Two Hour Parking" sign:
The Telegraph Herald of Dubuque caught a glimpse of Jake at the finish line:
Too bad Jake isn't looking at the runner in the photo. And that they don't have a larger version of the pic!
If you want to catch a glimpse of Jake filming at the finish line, watch this video.

Movie or madness?
Days later, it's still unclear if Jake Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard, Chistopher McDougall and others were in Leadville, Colorado, for film research or just for fun. Though the book's publisher, Knopf, denied any knowledge of it, rumors were rampant that they were in town for a movie version of McDougall's Born To Run.
Brandon Fuller, who brought us the first photo of Jake in Leadville, saw Jake again at the start of the race:
Actor Jake Gyllenhaal was standing in front of me on the start line with his Flip camera shooting some video. Another crew was over further with some big lights. I gave Jake the head nod…what’s up. He responded.
If you want to read a detailed account of the grueling race, Fuller's blog provides it. He also has a lot of photos, including the one of Jake above and below:
Until I read this account, it had seemed like Jake and company did an admirable job of staying low-key:
Jake Gyllenhaal and another big star that my non-movie-star, non-fanboy head can't identify, and a small crew of others who seemed to be producers and/or directors and movie technician guys showed up and followed the race. And I mean they really followed it. They lived in Leadville for a few days before the race, they didn't sleep much or at all during the 30hr race, and even at night, I ran into them again at Fish Hatchery aid in the middle of the night. Mostly they watched, but I think they helped at times too.
They didn't seem to be filming any final footage of anything. It seemed to be tons of snippets. I was standing around with a random runner and friends at Twin Lakes. Jake G's star-friend was taking photos of us with a huge camera. It was only later that I noticed he had a small shotgun-mic attached. So he was taking movies and over-heard everything we said!
The director guy, of course, had to have a special chair that couldn't look like anyone else's. And of course he parked his glorified ass in it, apparently unable to stand amongst normal folk. LOL And he had to have guys handy to write anything down in case he said something important, like, "gimme a bigger latte manana" or something like that.
Ouch. I hope there wasn't too much of that posturing! It's interesting that they were there a few days ahead of time and that they pitched in at times.
Just a note that the man posing with Jake is, I think, Ken Chlouber, founder of the LT100 and the person who gives out buckles to finishers.
There are links to photos and videos in the Fuller blog. You can get an idea of the kind of effort and insanity it takes to run this race. It's easy to understand why it would intrigue Jake.
Also, if they are making a dramatic movie and not a documentary, and Jake is going to star - there is apparently a strong shirtless running tradition :)
Belated congrats to Brandon Fuller for finishing the race and thanks for the photos!

Born to Run?
Updated again: A couple of photos of Jake in Leadville, courtesy of twitter:
Update: Yup, Jake is in Leadville:
After leaving the assembly, we heard rumors of Hollywood stars in the mix. Turns out Jake Gyllenhaal of gay cowboy fame was up in the rafters in a big beard and hat. We haven’t figured out his role in this yet but the lowdown seems to be a Born to Run movie in the works. They aren’t filming the movie right now. I am thinking they are doing some scouting and maybe some “day in the life” stuff so they can then portray it in a film? Seems silly since its such an event in itself and doesn’t need to be acted in my opinion. Anyway, here is a back shot of him. He is in the hat with backpack.
And from another blogger:
Not sure what's going on with this race. I personally didn't guess that Lance Armstrong would try again, but he destroyed his own record in the LT100 bike race a week ago. Not sure why all the famous people are in town. Sitting here in the Provin' Grounds coffee shop just after the start of the LT100 run, and the star of Donnie Darko, Jarhead, Rendition, Jake G, and some other famous notables, have been sitting around the couch hunched over maps.
We know Jake is an avid runner, as well as a Bruce Springsteen fan and impersonator.
But rumor has it that Jake is in Leadville, Colorado, this weekend, attending the apparently legendary Leadville Trail 100/Race Across The Sky.
Jake is allegedly accompanying Christopher McDougall, author of "Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen. According to one blogger:
Jake Gyllenhaal was at the pre-race meeting in disguise of sorts. Actually, he blended very well with the trail crowd with a big beard. I think they are making a movie. Kind of cool.
And according to another tweeter, Jake was spotted at the Leadville 100 with McDougal scouting for a move of the book.
I know nothing about this kind of running or the author, though that tweeter doesn't seem too fond of him! Guess we'll find out pretty quickly if this is a true sighting or another case of mistaken identity - the race is scheduled to start at 2:45AM MDT!
Let's complete the post with what we know are actual Jake sightings: He was photographed by an enterprising blogger at the Chateau Marmont last week:
Here's a nice shot of Jake in Chicago for Source Code filming:
We know Jake spent much of his summer on Martha's Vineyard, where the Obamas are now. Here's Jake a few years back on the island. This was posted in February 2005. Not sure when it was taken:

Love and Other Trailer Drugs
Updated to include our first shot of Jake on his motorcycle. He had lunch with his father and rode his bike to the restaurant.
We've gotten a second trailer for Love and Other Drugs. A trailer a week sounds like a good plan - this can be our new drug:
The new trailer reveals a more of the movie's more dramatic themes. And it shows Jake Gyllenhaal's character in serious ladies' man mode:
Nice to see Fox getting its LaOD act together. Now we need a poster, some official stills and a few festival dates!

Back from vacation
Jake Gyllenhaal's break from the paparazzi is over! Jake was snapped taking his niece to a birthday party in Los Angeles on Saturday.
The best thing about being back from vacation for me is being able to watch the Love and Other Drugs trailer on my 32" monitor!

Apple Trailer
So I guess it's now called Love *ampersand* Other Drugs. Okay.
Yet the not quite live website for the film shows it as Love *and*. . . Okay.
Either way, Love & Other Drugs. . . Love and Other Drugs, we now have the Apple trailer that Gecko Movies uploaded to YouTube making it easier for us to access whose computers hate the Apple site. I suggest watching the trailer in the full-screen mode. Oh yes.
Before the Apple site froze me out, I was able to get a couple of screen grabs I thought were interesting.
I wonder if Zwick and/or the costume department demanded that Jake wear the super azure blue contacts on this film because I don't think I've ever seen his eyes look this crystal before.
Also, probably a Jake set demand - notice the box of Corn Flakes he's eating? Organic. Naturally.

Trailer Time
Updated with a couple of scans from this week's Entertainment Weekly.
Now with actual trailer. Enjoy.
Until we get the actual trailer to pore over, can we just take a moment to gaze upon the screencaps Stephanie made and wonder what the hell ET was thinking by putting their big ugly "Exclusive" label over Jake's face?
And his back?
And on his hair?
And on his...refrigerator?
