Object Lesson

It's the dog days of summer for Jake Gyllenhaal news. Even Men's Health had trouble coming up with anything new: Jake on a Best Bodies list. Where's the news there?

But as they say, if you can't beat them... Let's take a look at more Jake soaking up the sun. It is summertime. And we all deserve a little virtual vacation.

After all, it will be time for this soon:

Might as well enjoy the view while we can!

Photo evidence that Jake is back in LA - here he is, leaving a grocery store yesterday:

More photos here. Merci!

Great pics - it's winter here down in the Southern Hemisphere so I enjoy a virtual trip to the beach!

I'm mystified with these lists and how they consider seven other guys "better" that Jake!

I've always liked the 'surfer' set! :)

UltraViolet said...

Glad to give you a bit of summer, anon! I'll have to revisit this post in about six months!

I always wonder how these lists rank anyone above Jake, bobbyanna! Love the surf pics. We could do with some more of those.

I'm curious what Jake's actual ranking was. With PoP and Mel's meltdown, it's surely higher than his now.

Jake in the sun, partially clothed.

Can't beat that! Fun post, UV.

What a great post to wake up to! Love all the pics and it certainly is getting me into vacation mode which is coming up next week!

Jake in his swimming trunks are my favs snd I will never understand Jake's standing in some of these polls, are they blind??

CT was hit with another storm so these photos are a bright spot on a rather gloomy day here, thanks UV!

I love these Hawaii surfing pics - those shoulders, yum! :)

It's raining here, too, OONP! Severe weather alerts since last night, etc. But it isn't cooling off the 90 degree weather. I hope we don't lose power...again.

OT: I just heard that Master Jazz musician/singer Al Jarreau collapsed onstage in France last night and was rushed to the hospital. He's in critical condition, ICU. I loved his music, especially in the 80's. If you are interested, go to YouTube and check out "After All."
Hope he pulls thru. There's still a lot of music for him to make.
(Just thinking. The 80's brought us a lot of good music of all kinds!)

UltraViolet said...

Gloomy day here, too. So it's nice to see someone having fun in the sun!

Bobbyanna, that was surprising news about Al Jarreau. I can't believe he's 70!

bobbyanna said...

I know, UV! I was surprised too.

There's some Oscar buzz for Natalie Portman's new movie, The Black Swan, opening Venice FF.

Chica said...

Al Jarreau's condition has been upgraded to stable. Jarreau has always been one of my favorite singers, loved his smooth, sexy sing style. Hope he gets well soon.

It's pouring cats and dogs here in NY!

bobbyanna said...

Here, too, Chica!
And still muggy.:(

Thanks for the update on AJ!

Reading feedback about Jake in LAOD, from people who 've attened screenings is making me very impatient!!

Jake back in L.A., this tweet is from Santa Monica:

Love all the Jake beach photos, hope he is keeping cool and wet in L.A.!

Hope Al Jarreau recovers soon.

This site has new pics of Jake from yesterday, sure IHJ will have them soon.

Tweety said...

Thanks anon, he really is rocking that werewolf look!!

The buzz about the Black Swan has been great Bobbyanna. It's a psychological thriller set in the world of ballet, not your usual plot nowadays. Darren Aronofsky is one of my favorite directors.

UltraViolet said...

Thanks for the tweet, Tweety, and for the photo link, anon. Thought about doing a new post, but the photos aren't all that sunny. We'll keep the beachy post for now. Still good to see Jake again.

UltraViolet said...

Oh, I added a pic and the link to the set in the main post.

bobbyanna said...

Thanks for the link and the new pics. Good God! I hope he's not preparing for a role with that look!

Monica said...

^^Why not?

Does anyone know if laod is a big production?

UltraViolet said...

Monica, I'm guessing Bobbyanna isn't a fan of Jake with that much facial hair!

I don't know the budget on LaOD, but it wasn't an indie pic. Regular budget Hollywood flick, I think. BO Mojo doesn't have a budget listed yet.

This site has LAOD's release date as 11/24, which is a Wednesday:

Just saw a comment on the box office and "Salt"..where it says after the final take for the weekend it looks like another hit for Angelina. Possibly 35 million.
O.K....
I know POP was a Disney deal but apparently the first week for Salt is called a hit and the first week for POP..which was kinda close to that..was a flop.
Hmmmm.

I'm sure Jake will be shaving eventually. Of the movies we know he has been talking about neither one of them would call for the look he has now.

Movies do open on a Wed. And Nov. 25 is Thanksgiving. The studios like to have their "important" movies to open close to a Holiday.

bobbyanna said...

"Monica, I'm guessing Bobbyanna isn't a fan of Jake with that much facial hair!"

You're right, UV! This look is definitely at the bottom of the pile.

Monica said...

I have no problem with facial hair. Not if it's for a movie.

Anon 2:37, I believe they are comparing with the budget of the film. For this reason they are saying it is a success.
Good for Angie.

Extra said...

I sorta like scruffy/beardy Jake in these pics although I do prefer him clean shaven (thanks for the hot beach photos UV!)

I wonder if he is preparing for a role, he looks really buff.

Salt sounds like a success, i'm looking forward to seeing it.

I hope we get news on the LAOD trailer soon!

Anonymous said...

I like Angelina. There was nothing against her.
"Salt" did cost (with help from tax credits) 110 million to make.
There was a lot of publicity about the movie.

Looking forward to the POP DVD and knowing people will watch it who didn't go to the theater.

LAOD will do well I'm sure, but it will have a more adult audience. They won't be taking their 10 year olds. An R means no one under 16 or is it 18. Anyway, it also being out at a holiday time am sure there's some "family" type movie going to be out at the same time.
It also won't be in 3D (2-3 dollars more ticket price) or shown on I-Max.
(I know - too bad!)
But with Oscar talk that'll be fine.

Either one of the Movies being talked about, Namath or Damn Yankees could be why he is getting "back in shape". Both are athletic roles, tho of course more with the Namath movie. Not a whole lot of baseball actually played in the musical. (tho guess they could show more baseball scenes). The character of Joe in that doesn't do a lot of dancing (only one song & it's at a club).

It's depressing reading summer review stories that mock PoP and/or Jake. I know objectively that it was a disappointment, but I hate the exaggeration.

And it just sort of bugs that Jake/we were deprived of that triumphant box office success. Regardless of whether you think PoP was worthy, there are so many bad movies that make a lot of money. Would it have killed the universe for Jake to be in one!

I watched a little of the Bourne Identity tonight and would love to see Jake get a shot at a movie/franchise like that. Don't know if anything will ever come of his meeting with Stephen Gaghan, but the projects floated around that meeting sounded pretty cool.

Would be nice to get some word on a new project for Jake.

Carla said...

It happens often with Jakes projects that shootings are starting very soon after we get the confirmation that he is involved. See LAOD and Source Code.

On the other hand we read about projects like "Moon project" or "Damn Yankees" or "Namath" but it seems they never become reality.

Jakes films post-BBM were not very successful - neither at the Box Office nor with the critics. "ZODIAC" got excellent critics but was overseen by the audience and during the awards race.

POP was a failure in the eyes of the "Business" but hopefully it won´t hurt Jakes carreer.

But nevertheless - it is time for a successful film again - I am counting on LAOD and "Source Code".

There are movies that are never going to have a big audience.
At one point every teen horror movie that was out (not counting Twilight of course..which isn't really horror)was #1 and made money. Now it's kind of "iffy".
At one time Westerns did well at the box-office..rarely now.

Once again, you look at a list of movies Johnny Depp made and I guess you could say for some of them they barely registered at all. His career didn't seem to be in any kind of trouble.
Some of Jake's movies automatically are not going to be movies that have "wide appeal". but he goes with his heart and what he wants to do at the moment.

Jake is considered one of the best actors of his generation. There are young actors who are mainly there for their looks and they will not have the range of acting Jake has and some of them may have big hit movies but they won't have a career like Jake does.

Also because Zodiac didn't do big business just meant that the audience wasn't interested in seeing a movie about a "serial killer" and for some of them they'd never heard of that time in Calif. history so no-matter who was in it they weren't interested. They missed out on a great movie. Maybe some have seen it since on DVD.

Hurt Locker was the first Oscar winning movie that didn't even make the top 10.
Then there are movies that do big, big money - it's the movie to see, the blockbuster, but if you ask people if they "loved it"..many will just say it was o.k.
A small picture many loved that didn't do huge business happens too.

Every big star has had movies that didn't do well. Political movie at the end of 2007 with Meryl and Redford and Tom C. I looked it up - it made 15 million in the U.S.- period! and with worldwide it made a total of 63 million...

As far as movies being made it takes a while from the time they are sold to actually get them done 90% of the time. Sometimes it will be years.
I rem. seeing a list some years back of movies that were attached to actors and there would be 5-6 mentioned and I rem. how years later someone else got the role of one of them.

And why couldn't Jake pick one of those actual blockbuster movies to do? Maybe he wouldn't of wanted to.
He felt POP would be fun, he was familiar with it - and he did have a great time with it. I'm sure he's disappointed it didn't go over 100 million in the U.S. but i don't think he'd think then it wouldn't of been worth making.

Jake is not an exception when it comes to actors and roles mentioned for them and they don't happen immediately or at all.
I do think tho the working on both Namath and Damn Yankees is still in progress.

In Other words - Jake has an incredible list of movies he has done in his career before age 30 there are actors out there who will never have that in their whole career.
Don't worry about his career. He will act as long as he wants to and bet he will be directing too.
He will also get some more Oscar nominations.

(((UV))) I feel your frustration! All I'll ever concede about PoP,is that it underperformed in the U.S. I'll never ever consider it a failure.:)

I think the "Business" is kind of ambivalent to PoP. The cumulative BO of $322M in a little more than a month, quieted most of the so-called "industry" badmouthing.

And PoP's the most successful videogame movie adaptation out here, beating Laura Croft.

Don't let snotty, know nothing "film industry critics" upset you. They speak with authority, but with no credibility. They're like sheep. Dumb. This was a bad season all the way around, which works in Jake's favor, actually.

The real "suits" don't blame Jake for PoP. (It's cast was it's biggest strength. Watching Inception, the FX were far superior to PoP...without 3D.)

"I watched a little of the Bourne Identity tonight and would love to see Jake get a shot at a movie/franchise like that."

Oh, so would I!!! He needs to keep "redefining" himself like Matt Damon and Tobey have. Lately I find myself "casting" Jake in lots of movies. I think LAOD will put Jake in a whole new category.

I want to see "caper " movies, spy thrillers, and smart romantic comedies, too. I want good, original stories. Those seem to be in short supply in H'wood. Everything's a remake or a sequel.

If PoP proves to be the worst decision he ever makes, Jake is in great shape! He always does an excellent job. Always.

Last night,Jarhead, Moonlight Mile, and Donnie D were all on TV. I constantly hear people referencing TDAT, too.:) Jake's body of work is impressive, he works with great directors, and his movies are interesting, in some cases, classic. I know you know all this. I just needed to hear myself say it...again.:)

Oh UV and Bobbyanna, I echo your feelings. The BO here for Pop was disappointing but it did well oveseas and I certainly don't consider Pop a failure.

There has been so many movies this Summer that have underperformed so far including SA with Cage, another JB/Disney production so I don't think HW is pointing a finger at Jake anymore.

He has such an impressive resume so far for an actor his age. I too wish that he could land a franchise like Bourne, look what it did for Damon.

Saw Inception yesterday and was blown away, I could easily se Jake in Leo's role.

These photos make me want to go to the beach, and I just might depending on how I feel after finishing up my chores!

There are actors who have defined themselves and its the same type of movie over and over and pretty much the same character (without it being a franchise) so don't esp. want to see Jake do that.
Harrison Ford has played the same character in Star Wars and Indiana Jones but he has done all types of other kinds of movies too. I think that's the type of career that would be great for Jake.
Annie
Johnny Depp didn't do Pirates until he was in his 40's. That was the first time he played the same role again in movies.
Jake still has time to possibly have a role that will be done more than once if he wants to do it. He'd have to like it as much as he liked POP.
But he's already defined as an actor willing to do something different and to take a chance.
And being multitalented. He's a great comic actor, great at drama, great at action and hope sometime to show he has talent as a singer and able to do musicals.
And how about sometime some stage work.

bobbyanna said...

"But he's already defined as an actor willing to do something different and to take a chance.
And being multitalented. He's a great comic actor, great at drama, great at action.."

Yes.He's already defined himself as a really fine, exceptional actor.

To me, you've just given an excellent description of his "range," challenging himself with variety.

It can be both good and bad. Good because it gives an actor the chance to stretch, sometimes bad for filmmakers to get a handle on, because ot's hard to categorize.

What I meant by "redefine" was something broader that includes what you've just described. Certain roles are breakthroughs into a whole different genre.

Maybe it's just a matter of semantics, but when I said he needs to continue to redefine himself, I was talking about getting rid of the perception of Jake as the young, Indie, Art house, angsty Man-child.

I think of movies like Rendition, Brothers, and probably LAOD, as Jake continuing to transition into more mature roles. With movies like PoP, he is going into more commercial action movies.

Not many people ever considered Jake as an action hero before PoP. Now they will. PoP has redefined him as far as public perception. It expands his opportunities.

Robert Downey Jr. redefined himself with Iron Man. Now, Mark Ruffalo is going to be the Incredible Hulk! LOL! Who knew!

I honestly don't care if Jake ever does a franchise. It would have to be pretty special like Bourne. I'd like to see him kick butts,or see him play an anti-hero like Danny Ocean,or even a bad guy. Caper movies, romantic comedies, etc.

I don't know if it's true, but I sometimes hear that certain guys like Matt D or Leo get first look at certain scripts. Hopefully, Jake will get his chance.

I'm really enjoying this discussion. But the sun is finally shining...:)

UltraViolet said...

I don't want the blogger types to get to me, Bobbyanna, but I also can't ignore the lingering perception from PoP. It's a punchline now, and so is Jake for some people. It's very disappointing that this is how it turned out.

I read a blog story about the new A-list, and they said that you'd have assumed Jake would be on it after Brokeback, but that he's had 5 box office disappointments in a row. As silly as I think it is to lump PoP in with Rendition for BO, the perception is there. (Also, I guess they think Jarhead or Proof came out after BBM.)

Jake needs a movie to perform above expectations - I hope LaOD is the one.

Don't know if this charming tweeter is on target or not, but Jake may be back in NYC:

Anyone wants me to punch Jake Gyllenhal? He's two tables away. (@ The Breslin w/ 2 others) http://4sq.com/2J2rfd

bobbyanna said...

"I also can't ignore the lingering perception from PoP. It's a punchline now, and so is Jake for some people. It's very disappointing that this is how it turned out."

Honestly haven't seen this type of thing. Glad I haven't. I can't believe it's really, really widespread or credible. Everyone I've read said he did a good job with the action sequences, the stunts, and the acting. 90% of what I read complimented him even if they didn't like the movie.

"Jake needs a movie to perform above expectations - I hope LaOD is the one."

I agree, UV. It's as if he's 'on the brink' and just needs that little extra jolt to get him up there.

There are so many different versions of the so-called "A List" I don't put as much weight or credibility in it as I used to.

UV, I'm reminded of an observation a wise old man told me long ago: time :

"Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one."

I sometimes find it comforting.:)

I think as long as Jake's got projects in the hopper, and he's working, there's order in the universe. He is definitely getting respect for his work.

I will admit I was surprised that Pop wasn't as successful as I thought it would be here. It had all the elements of a blockbuster and i certainly enjoyed it.

For whatever reasons why it didn't do well here: PG-13 scaring off the family crowd, the fact that it was based on a VG, the lame-ass Disney promotion towards the end, etc.

The most important thing is that Jake likes to take chances and do all types of films. He proved he can play an action hero and LAOD and SC will prove that he can tackle any genre.

In USA Today a while back they had a couple pages showing each movie that was out with a short comment about each. They gave Jake praise for doing a good job with the role but weren't that crazy about the movie.
I haven't heard any jokes on the late night shows or anything like that about Jake.
Mainly I heard a lot of jokes about Sex and the City. That is the movie that has been put down by so many.
Wal-Street Journal review said he was hoping Jake would be up to this role and he was glad to say he was. Praise for him in the movie.

Maybe some internet sites might be saying things, but they'd be the ones that would be doing it no matter what.
My friend's sons went and they thought it was fine.
If it had just been PG do think parents may of taken their kids tho know some did anyway.
And still say as soon as some people heard it was from a "video game" they had no interest in it.
As has been stated there is not One Actor who hasn't had a movie that did not do well - even the most famous and most popular.

My surgery was at 11:45 on Thursday, I was released from hospital at 11:00 on Friday!! Sent home with Percoset.... which has come in handy. And I'm back home in time for Mad Men!

Thanks to everyone for your concern and well wishes!

Monica said...

Aww, very good Suvee.

At this moment I'm watching Mr. and Mrs. Smith with my favorite couple Brad and Angie. She is the most beautiful woman in the world. And he's hot!

I think all these are critical for Jake is because he was one of the biggest bets of summer and unfortunately there was not the success that everyone expected.
They are citing Proof, Rendition and Brothers just to pass the idea that films starring by him are failures, but they know that these types of films could hardly have become blockbusters.

Just look when actors like Brad Pitt act in these kinds of movies. I do not remember that Burn After Reading was a box office success.

Nobody can not predict when a film will be a success. I think Johnny Depp could not imagine the success that POTC has become.
Neither Jake and Heath imagined the success that Brokeback Mountain did.

POP is the first big blockbuster of Jake. For me it was a wrong bet, but I think it was an irresistible proposal.

This here is bringing me down. Something to put a smile on our faces: Perfil

I told that I concluded my studies at university? I still have some parallel courses, but the main was completed.
I still do not know the date when the big night I will receive my diploma, but I am so happy and anxious.

You guys whine more than any other group I know. Honestly, it's depressing reading this blog, always complaining about something that hasn't gone Jake's way.

Suvee! Yay! So glad everything went well. I hope Mad Men didn't disappoint. We put up some hot Jake sun photos to help you in your convalescence :)

Monica, congrats! I thought you were close to finishing. That's a great accomplishment.

Great video - those shots of Jake in Maui are so gorgeous. And I love the Palm Springs stuff, too.

As for the PoP/Jake mockery, it's probably because I do so many Jake searches that I see more of this stuff. It's nothing as bad as late show jokes, of course. Just a lot of "Since Prince of Persia, now Hollywood knows (insert negative comment)" or "Jake Gyllenhaal in PoP showed everyone that (insert negative comment/joke)."

UltraViolet said...

Some comments from Duncan Jones in a story about the search for the Next Big Director.

No more confirmation of Jake in NYC. I've been wondering if he'll attend Chelsea Clinton's weeding, which is supposed to take place on Saturday, I think, in New York.

Will be interesting to see who the guests are, in the end. And how many.

Carla said...

Suvee, glad to see everything went well and good to see you back!

Congratulations for passing your diploma, Monica!

It is true that every actor/actress has some failures and some shitty films during their career.

I always liked that Jake was involved in so many interesting films and challenging roles when he was very young.

BBM was the highlight and people expected great things.

Unfortunately the respect towards Jake faded away a little bit after "Renditions" failure and the fact that Jake was more present in tabloids than on filmsets.

And the reactions when Jake was presented as the Prince in PoP were not positive. But I have read - although the US Box Office was disappointing - that some people changed their minds and admitted they were wrong and that Jake did a fine job.
Unfortunately PoP has not the reputation and the good reviews like "Iron Man" or "Batman".

I am sure the little setback won´t hurt Jakes career - if LAOD is well recieved by fans and critics it will be a big step forward again and Duncan Jones second film is eagerly awaited by his many fans and followers.

Interesting comments from Duncan Jones, thanks for the link, UV. "Source Code" is an original film with a good script and as we can see with the success of "Inception" filmgoers are interested and willing to reward a little bit spirit in filmmaking.

I did not know that C. Clintons wedding takes place in NY. Lets see whether Jake is invited...:-)

Anonymous said...

The Day After Tomorrow was considered a hit - people still rem. it. That was his first jump into "big time movies".
If you see all the negative coming from sites that would make fun of it no matter what as I'm sure they do with every other actor and actress in their roles. There are blogs out there who all they do is the negative. That gives the impression everyone will see those then making it seem like everyone has that impression. That isn't what the majority of "mainstream" critics have said about Jake.

Iron Man and Batman were two different types of movies.
Maybe it just wasn't the time for people to be interested in desert movies at the moment. Five years ago, maybe.

If Jake was not giving a good performance in any of his movies then I think he would be losing respect.
Could it be that the main talk might be that Jerry B. really hasn't come up to POTC since the first one was out.

"Rendition" was a tough movie and very few, if any, of the movies dealing with Iraq have not been "hits" at the box-office.
It was pretty much a given that none of those movies would be a hit.
The one with Meryl, Redford and Tom C...it dealt with that type of thing..and it was considered a real "flop" considering the people in it. But they're still working..ha.

You never know maybe some might of liked how Jake did his role in POP and thought this movie or that might be good for him. I'm sure any scripts for him haven't dried up.

Awww! Thank you, FL!

Fritatas remind me of grandma! She used a cast iron frying pan and the 'big event' was the turning the fritata, which sometimes went well and often did not! Obviously we weren't flipping cast iron! LOL!

My mother switched to lighter fry pans later, but it wasn't the same.

We used fresh chopped basil, ricotta cheese, and sometimes thinly sliced pepperoni sausage. But we always used Pecorino Romano cheese!

Chris flipped his so effortlessly it made me jealous. LOVED his smile at the end!

UltraViolet said...

And clean nails this time! He seemed a little more relaxed, too. Loved the "I'm not nervous" while flipping.

Yeah, Monica, Duncan was definitely coy about Inception. I got the sense that he didn't love it the way others did, but he was deliberately vague.

Cute video of michelle, Heath and Jake. Such happy times.

Welcome back Suvee! Happy to hear that your surgery went well.

Chelsea's wedding is getting a lot of attention, I hope Jake was invited!

Jones is a bit iffy about Inception, I would think he would really like that film.

Chris!! Thanks FL, I wish he had his own show on the Food Channel!

((((Heath, Michelle & Jake))))

Yes, thank you for the link to Heath Michelle and Jake, Monica. I hadn't see that clip before. They all look so very happy.

Nothing beats Jake on the beach to beat the blues! I was on a mini-vacation, nothing spectacular: Atlantic City, the Beach, etc but it sure does the mind and body good to get away!

Congratulations Monica, what a incredible accomplishment!!

So glad that your surgery went Ok, Suvee and it sounds like your recovery time will be speedy!

I'm getting realy anxious about any news on LAOD, they should be announcing the films that will be at TIFF this week and I hope that LAOD is on the list.

Thanks for posting Chris' latest video FL, that looks really good and easy to make. And yes i'm so glad his nails were clean this time::))

I love Chris's videos too. :)

Congratulations to Monica, and glad you're now back at home recovering, Suvee!

I'm wanting to hear more about LaOD. :)

Boo - no LaOD on the list for Toronto.

bobbyanna said...

I was disappointed too, UV! But then at the bottom of the first page of the release I saw this:

"The complete lineup of today’s announced titles is being updated below (please check back as it continues to grow). "

Maybe LAOD will get added on. I know in previous years they've sometimes done that.

I know.:(

UV, most movies that are on that list are indies, and I think laod is a big production.
Fox probably has other plans for the film.

I was just noticing just today that FOX released the official poster of NEVER LET ME GO, the trailer a few weeks ago and the movie has release date on September 15.
We need to have a little patience with the studio that everyone loves to hate.

Toronto is a mix of indie and bigger budget movies. LaOD isn't that big a production; it's definitely the kind of movie that has played Toronto in the past. And there was speculation that it would be among the films selected.

It's disappointing mostly because it would be an opportunity for lots of Jake interviews, photos and press.

Even though Venice seems a less likely venue, maybe there's still a shot there.

Bobbyanna, I saw that the list would be expanding, but I assumed that LaOD would be in the initial press reports, if it were an actual selection.

After the Brothers debacle, I'm very wary of studio promotion. Let's hope Fox does a better job for LaOD.

bobbyanna said...

UV, LAOD is exactly the kind of movie that's screened at TIFF. They do a good mix of international and USA;Indie and studio-backed; art house and commercial. I've been to TIFF several times, and I felt SO sure it would be screened that I'm still 'in denial.'

I'm counting on Fox to do a better job that was done with Brothers. At least Ryan Kavanaugh, who's really branching out these days, won't be involved in LAOD.

UltraViolet said...

I have the same hopes for Fox with LaOD, Bobbyanna. But it's disturbing that the date is still listed as TBD on their website.

The LA times had a story about Ryan K again. He has a very good publicist.

For himself.

Under the heading of completely unsubstantiated specualtion:

Maroon 5 is appearing live at the Beacon Theatre in NYC tonight. It will be broadcast live at 9 PM on Fuse TV. So maybe there's a possibility Jake IS in NYC and going to the concert?

I might try to check out the show on Fuse.

It thought about Jake attending the Maroon 5 concert at the Beacon too Bobbyanna. There was that tweet of him in NY a fe3 days ago....

I really hope that LAOD is eventually added to the TIFF list, there are other festivals but I was sure that it would be announced today.

Great to hear from you Suvee in that it went well. Hope Jakeing speeds up your recovery :DD

Hugely disappointing about TIFF but then Fox had better deliver. Is LaOD being released around your Thanksgiving season? That may deliver a decent BO then. The combination of Annie and Jake is too irresistable. It will be a delicious movie. Both cool, heartwarming, loveable dramatic actors and I've absolutely no doubts whatsover about the power of their performances.

I just Hate waiting :/

Thanksgiving is Nov. 25.

Well. Youngest daughter tweeted that she's headed to the Beacon for the concert. She's a marketing consultant for Fuse right now.
Don't know what kind of seats she has or whether she can go backstage. Maybe I'll see her on TV! LOL! If I were to even suggest she be on the lookout for Jake I would get such an eyeroll I could feel it from here.
Ugh! Children.

Duncan Jones on Source Code:
Man Made Movies

bobbyanna said...

Thanks monica! I really enjoyed Duncan's interview.

I'm wondering. Does anyone think maybe Duncan saw some similarities (maybe just a few) between SC and Inception and that's why he was so...quiet about Inception?

FL said...

Or maybe he just wasn't blown away by it.

What are the similarities?

Monica said...

I don't see similarities with Source Code.
Duncan Jones was boring that day on Inception. I remember someone saying he was jealous of the talent of Christopher Nolan.

Anonymous said...

Someone saying something about probably what someone thought (whatever i said - ha) doesn't mean Duncan is jealous of Nolan. I would think he would admire him.
Maybe the movie just didn't grab him. There are people out there who haven't loved it.
Sometimes too maybe first reaction has to have time. Lot of folks say they have to watch it more than once.

If LAOD doesn't make it to Toronto just means it didn't make it.
Would be nice but as said it has already had viewings and a buzz has already been created.

bobbyanna said...

"What are the similarities?"

I have no idea, FL. I know just a little about SC, and I saw Inception last week and I'm still trying to figure it out!:)

But if SC's about traveling back and forth in time, and about explosions and action sequences, maybe some scenes might feel similar. I don't really know. I'm just speculating about Duncan's reaction to Inception.

UltraViolet said...

I don't know Duncan's tweeting style/history to know what he was trying to do or say about Inception. I got the sense that he didn't like it, but I found the coyness annoying, so I didn't really bother to try to figure it out.

There is apparently a screening of LaOD in Kansas either tonight or this week. Someone on FB posted that she's going. Hope we get to hear some reactions.

Monica said...

Jeffrey Wells was disappointed with the list of Toronto. He expected to see laod, The Tree of Life and other films.

Monica said...

UV, from FB:

Saw movie premiere tonight of "Love and Other Drugs" - Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal - funny but little too much Anne Hathaway sans clothing. Was borderline "skinamax".

UltraViolet said...

Yeah, I saw that, Monica. Hopefully we'll get some more reaction on FB, twitter or imdb.

New post.
