The pictures are amazing FL, thanks!

I know the 5th pic of Jake is from last year, but the last pic of Jake and Chris, is it recent? I love it!

Congrats to Carla/Germany and Happy 4th!!!!

Thanks for all the good wishes!

Its madness over here and we will be celebrating the whole night.

Happy 4th of July for everyone here- enjoy your time with family and friends!

That last pic is a nice pic, isn't it? It just happened to find me...like magic. :-)

Carla, congrats on Germany getting into the Semis! How exciting!

Off to prepare fruit kebabs. Yum!

Yummy, loved all of those pictures especially the Jake ones. I'm so glad he's giving us all a break, even though I can't get enough of him, it's all of us that need to sleep sometime :D

Ooh and well done Carla to Germany who beat England soundly and continue their march to the final. They're looking good. My heart though now lies with Spain so it's going to be a cracking match. Well done Germany and Spain.

Happy 4th July in the USA. Hope like Jake you all have fun and celebrate in style. Be safe.

And again congratulations Carla!

Thanks for giving us a touch of the Vinyards on this July 4th weekend FL, love the last pic too::))

I will be at my in-laws tomorrow for a dip in their pool and plenty to eat. I will be making some potato salad tonight for my contribution, I love it when we aren't the host of a barbeque!!

Congratulations Carla on Germanty advancing !!!

Have a happy, fun and safe July 4th!

Perfect 4th of July post, FL! Splendid photos of the beauty of MV, of Chris' garden bounty and of course, Jake! Makes me proud to be an American. :)

Just curious, when was that last photo taken?

Carla, congrats on Germany advancing!

This is such a beautiful post! Thank you, FL!!

Congrats, Carla!

I love this post, it's just perfect!

Love the pic of Chris and of course of Jake (and Chris?) and I guess I will join the chorus of when was the pic taken?

Congratulations Carla, you must be so excited!

Thanks for the July 4th wishes Sheba, hope everyone has fun and please be safe.

Suvee, I honestly have no idea when that last pic was taken.

UltraViolet said...

I was at the beach today, but not on Martha's Vineyard, damn it. The vistas were not nearly as magnificent.

Congrats to Carla and the Germans :) Condolences to Leonor and the Argentineans :(

Leonor, you might have seen this, another Jake interview. I haven't been able to translate much, but I think they allege that Jake and Reese's break-up took place over the phone. Have we heard that one before?

Not MV-related, but this tweet made me laugh:

Jake Gyllenhal! I love you! I love you so much I learned how to spell your last name!

I think a little more love/practice is in order!

Sheba baby said...

Happy birthday America! Have fun and be safe everyone.

I love these photos FL, love the 5th pic and the last one.

Congratulations to the German Soccer team Carla!

That is a funny tweet UV!!

Monica said...

UV, I remember reading this story of the phone in some tabloid, I think.

sweet tweet.

Unknown said...

Yes UV, months behind I read that separated for telephone. Jake only confirmed in an interview that, partly, Internet and the gutter press were rsponsables. Though only partly, Jake said.

Paula said...

Happy 4th of July everyone!! Be careful, don't jump into the water unless lifeguards are on duty, watch the little ones if you are at a pool, don't drink and drive and leave the fireworks to the experts!

These photos have a calming effect on me FL. MV is so beautiful, hope Jake is having a relaxing break.

Chris at the market and Jake and Chris watching the boats, what great photos.

Anonymous said...

Can't quite believe Jake would tell anyone why he and Reese broke up.
The press and internet doesn't sound like that would be a reason to break up. He understands those things.
A simple they weren't going anywhere with their relationship.
Sounds about as good as anything.
But that's just basic specualtion.

Maybe it was a misinterpretation of who wrote it!

Happy happy happy
Congratulations, Rafa Nadal!

UltraViolet said...

Yes, congrats to Rafa!

Hope everyone had a happy Fourth/fun Sunday.

A couple of Vineyard tidbits:

Hilarious that my bff Corey is stalking Jake Gyllenhaal all over the Vineyard this week. She claims he "just keeps running by." Right!

Sam can die happy. He was sandwiched between Jake and Maggie Gyllenhall to watch the fireworks at the neighbors' party.

Lucky folks!

Carla said...

I hope everyone had a happy 4th of July!

Congratulations to Senor Nadal!

And again thanks for the good wishes to our football team!

Looks like Jake is enjoying is summer holidays with family and friends. Since everything has slowed down it is now time to watch all the interviews, news concerning PoP again in a relaxed mood...:-))

Had a brief power outage this AM. Very brief thank goodness, bcz there's a heat advisory and it's already 84.(F)!

Wonder if Ramona enjoyed the fireworks! When my kids were toddlers the noise frightened them. We had to watch from a distance. "No booms!":)

We had a nice 4th. Hope everyone else enjoyed it. Watched "Match Point" last night on DVD, and kept wishing Jake had played the Jonathan Rhys Myers role. "Match Point" is "A Place in the Sun" + "Fatal Attraction".

Bet Jake is grateful he can stay put for a while and just hang out.

Guess who forgot to put on enough sun screen today at the beach::((

I think I have a legit reason to extend my holiday! I hope everyone enjoyed their July 4th. Sounds like Jake is having a relaxing time on MV.

Thanks so much for these beautiful pics taken on MV FL. I really love the pic of Jake in his white swimming trunks and the pic of Jake and Chris:)

I love your description of Match Point Bobbyanna. I can see Jake in that role. Match Point is one of my favorite "recent" film of W. Allen.

bobbyanna said...

A Spanish tweet said Maggie Gyllenhaal was mistaken for Kirsten Dunst.

Kirsten has a boyfriend. Pics on her website June 19th. He had sunglasses on, dark brown hair, scruffy, so I can see where someone might think he was Jake. I never would...but it could happen...from a distance.:[

I do that a lot, imagine Jake in different roles. I can think of at least two re-makes I'd like to see him do with Natalie Portman.

Both are such classics people would probably scream, "NO!" LOL!
(OK, I'll tell: Roman Holiday and The Way We Were.)

If he does end up doing Damn Yankees, I want Zoey Deschanel to be Lola. Just the right mix of saucy, worldly, and comic timing, plus she sings! Jake's agent should call us, I bet there are a lot of great ideas here! LOL!

Sheba baby said...

I hope everyone here that is in the East coast is keeping cool, it's brutal out there!

Hope everyone had a fantastic 4th and I hope Jake is enjoying his visit to MV.

I can't imagine anyone mixing up Maggie with Kiki, LOL!!

I never got to see Match Point when it came out, sounds like something I should check out.

Jake/Zooey= Damn Yankees, sounds great to me too Bobbyanna!

Anonymous said...

I like Zooey too but Lola, as we've seen her, is not girlish but a woman who is a "temptress". Penelope Cruz comes to mind and we have seen great pictures of she and Jake together. We do know she could do a musical and think it would be fun for both of them.

bobbyanna said...

Ouch! Josie! Hope you're feeling a little better. YOu probably need the rest of the week off...:)

Well, the temperature finally 'dropped' to 86. It was 98 at one point today. Unbearable.
Definitely a day to be indoors.

UltraViolet said...

Waah - I really don't want to go back to work tomorrow! And it's going to be blazingly hot and humid. Boo.

Glad you got your power back, bobbyanna! And Josie, sorry about that sun damage. Definitely think you need to stay home tomorrow.

Not too much info today, but Jake did apparently shop at this person's store:

work started off soo horrible almost got ran ova twice when i did carts then some lady tried to shop lift ... bt it sure turned around after my break when Jake Gyllenhaal showed up to my work haha everyone was going nuts.. it took all that i had nt to laugh @ their reactions. O how I love my job and this Island ;)

Not sure where this tweeter worked or if this is from recent experience, but he tweeted the drink orders of celebs who've come into his bar:

Shirley Jones = Chopin dry martini Jake Gyllenhaal = local, craft brown ale Rush Limbaugh = double absolut mandrin w/splash of sprite

glad everyone had anice fourth i did saturday we we were at borders and my daughter found they they had the 2011 pop calendar for salei didnt think it would be available till august so i had to buy it and also i read some where on another blog that hallmark was selling a pop christmas tree ornament ill have to check it out on my day off imagine we can have jake on our tree this year :)

UltraViolet said...

Thanks for news on the calendar, Mary. Will have to take a look at it.

And Josie, I hope you've stayed home to recover from the sun :)

UltraViolet said...

Okay, we'll see if this posts. This is exciting - from Duncan Jones's twitter:

I show my directors cut to producers tomorrow! Eek! Cross your fingers it goes well!

We'll cross them, too, Duncan!

bobbyanna said...

LOL! I can almost picture him, walking into the store with his head down, with that little smile of his, trying to appear all inconspicuous and natural. I think he gets a kick out of the excitement he's causing, when it's sincere and unexpected...and manageable.:)

UV, it is just horrible. It's already 94 in NYC! They're predicting triple digits today. We have a heat advisory..whatever that is... here in Michigan.

Never heard from suvee. Was wondering how she enjoyed the Steve Winwood concert with Santana. They're coming here soon.

I just missed Eric Clapton. Wish I'd known he was going to be here.
I bet the outdoor concert venues will suffer from the heatwave. It's not much cooler at night.

Tonight I'm watching Zodiac. Or maybe Rendition. I ought to watch TDAT to cool off. Rendition definitely raises the temperature...and not just because of the locations!:)

UltraViolet said...

Okay, I think I deleted all my repeat posts - we'll see if this shows up now. I had added it to one of the repeats but then deleted it:

This is a cute non-Jake LaOD-related story. From Jamie Reidy's Facebook:

At The Grove. Ran into George Segal, who is playing my Dad in LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS. I hadn't met him on set, so that was a thrill. He told me, "give your Dad my best!"

Sadly, for me, it reminded me that George Segal will be in LaOD.

Shouldn't we be seeing a trailer soon?

UltraViolet said...

Bobbyanna, I can't imagine going to an outdoor concert in this miserable heat. Ugh.

I haven't watched Rendition in a while. Or Zodiac. Both good choices :)

Chica said...

Thanks for the news on the Pop calendar Mary!

It's hot as hell here in NY, 100 degrees, yikes!

Love the MV/Jake tweets and I love his choice of beverages too (Can't picture Shirley Partridge drinking a dry martini, LOL!)

Hopefully we will be seeing a LOAD trailer soon and I take it that you don't like Mr. Segal UV:)

FL said...

I'm actually enjoying this "miserable" heat. I figure since I don't dig ditches, build houses, do any sort of outside manual labor for 8-9 hours a day for a living, I'm happy with this weather. It's those long (short) cold days of winter I find miserable. Enjoying this now for it won't be with us for forever. :-)

UltraViolet said...

Monica, I saw that E! Brazil is showing a Behind the Scenes special on PoP on Sunday.

Doesn't seem to be airing in the U.S. You'll have to let us know if there's anything new or noteworthy :)

And no, Chica. I'm not a George Segal fan. His presence makes me think "cheesy, made for TV dreck." I'm hoping he is in only a few scenes!

suvee said...

Bobbyanna, the concert was great! The weather here is actually cooler than normal (sorry to those of you who are suffering!), so the outdoor venue was perfect, in the mid 70's. Well, except for the fact that it rained during all of Santana's set. God Bless whoever invented rain ponchos!

I haven't seen Steve Winwood since the early 90's, but I swear, his voice sounds like it did 30 years ago. That man can sing! His set was a really nice mix of his solo work, Traffic and Spencer Davis songs. The crowd went absolutely nuts at the opening chords of "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys". My only complaint..... he only played for an hour. :(

And I defy anyone to stay still during a Santana concert! They were incredible. I could have lived without Carlos' Obama bashing and frequent reminders that he was at Woodstock, but whatever. They played for 2 hours, so we got our money's worth.

And the rain stopped just about literally at the end of the concert..... perfect timing for an awesome fireworks show!

bobbyanna said...

Chica, my kids checked in with a NYC "report," too! The subway platform's like a blast furnace. Can't breath.

Suvee, glad you enjoyed the concert and fireworks in spite of the rain!I'd have wished for more SW, too.

Mary! A 2011 PoP calendar! (Squeeee!)

FL, You're right. For people who're indoors it's fine. But I worry about power outages.(Like Philly and parts of NYC) That would be horrible. Unbearable.

Winter's gloomy, daylight hours are short, and the below zero temps are depressing. Winter gets old real fast for me, too.

But if there's a power failure in Winter,at least we can bundle up. I love it until the temps pass 90. Can't physically handle more than that.

UV, I'm loving your FB finds!
Maybe tonight I'll look for my VHS version of "Body Heat." I'm in a mood for suspense thrillers and tales of murder.:)

BTW: OT Omar Metwally, who was in "Rendition" with Jake, has a movie coming out called "The City of your Final Destination." Trailer looked very interesting. Sir Anthony Hopkins,(Proof) Laura Linney, and Charlotte Gainsbourg...who was in "I'm Not There" with Heath.

bobbyanna said...

Moonlight Mile will be on Starz at 10:45 PM. This is pretty rare even for premium cable. Don't know if it's on where you live, but I'm posting it anyway. :)

Cathy E said...

Maybe tonight I'll look for my VHS version of "Body Heat."

I haven't seen that in ages - Kathleen Turner was great in it, wasn't she? :)

UltraViolet said...

Oh, I wish I'd seen your post earlier, Bobbyanna. But watching now. It's been so long since I watched this movie. Jake is so good in it.

Suvee, that sounds like an amazing night. Glad you enjoyed it, despite the rain.

I ♥ these Vineyard style flags, Happy post 4th July festivity, Ultraviolet!!

UltraViolet said...

Hi Kendra! FL found some pretty cool pics! Very festive and flag-y :)

I'm not feeling so festive. Just finished watching MM, and the end really made me cry this time. Not sure why it affected me so after all these viewings. Just good acting, I guess!

Chica said...

MM is a tearjerker and such a good movie.

Glad you had a good time at the Santana/Winwood concert Suvee!

I avoid the subways on days like these Bobbyanna, I take the express bus to work!!

FL said...

As I watched MM last night I came away thinking how much better he would have been in that role had he played it right now. Another role I thought he was totally too young for. And I also noticed the same facial tics/expressions that he had in Booobla Boy.

Joe Nast is not one of my favorite performances of his.

FL said...

Great soundtrack though! :-)

bobbyanna said...

"As I watched MM last night I came away thinking how much better he would have been in that role had he played it right now."

Yes! Thank you! I watched the movie last night, love everyone in it, love the music, but felt the same way. MM has always been 'not quite there' for me, and you've named it.

Maybe they thought his "post-adolescence" looks helped strengthen the impression of his character's fears about telling her parents? Youthful, vulnerable, not quite a man yet?

Or something.:)

Jake held up well in his scenes with Hoffman and Sarandon. They could have easily overpowered him. And there was a little of that sense, but it worked for the storyline. I can just imagine what a high he had working with them.

UltraViolet said...

Maggie is in Good Housekeeping with Emma Thompson. It's a fun read with a brief Jake mention:

I like to cook. I put Ramona to sleep, put on an album, measure everything out, put it in bowls. I used to cook the way my parents cooked: They’d have a dinner party, and they’d still be cooking when their friends came over. When I cook that way, I have a terrible time. I can manage making salad when I have people over — anything else, I just can’t manage it. My brother [actor Jake Gyllenhaal] is an incredible chef, a really gifted chef, and he can cook that way. I can’t do all those things at once!

Also found this tiny tidbit about LaOD, from that Cine Expo event a few weeks ago:

Clips for Vampires Suck and Love and Other Drugs both won strong reactions from the crowd. Vampires Suck is a Twilight parody, while Love and Other Drugs is a dark comedy starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. Director Edward Zwick sent a taped message to play before the Love and Drugs clip.

Wonder if the intro clip mentioned when the damned trailer is coming out!

suvee said...

ITA about Jake being too young for the Joe Nast role in MM. I've never warmed up to that movie, and I think that's a big reason why.

And even though I think he was too young for Proof and, to a lesser extent, The Good Girl, I'm not bothered by it in those films. For some reason his youth is not as distracting in those 2 movies (to me).

I'm impatiently waiting for the LaOD trailer, too!

Back from my extended July 4th vacation from V. Beach, hope everyone had a great holiday!

I ate and drank too much, probably the reason I came home today instead of Friday as planned:(

Thanks for all the tweet/FB Jake updates, hope he is enjoying his down time.

I'll join the chorus that Jake was too young play Joe Nast. He held his own up against Susan and David, but I thought that he was miscast in the role.

Can't wait to see the LOAD trailer too, thanks for the link UV!

UltraViolet said...

Firmly in the minority, I guess. I love Moonlight Mile. I do think Jake was too young for the role but it doesn't bother me when watching the movie.

I think he more than holds his own with his co-stars. He has several scenes that are among my favorite Jake scenes of all his movies (the dinner table scene with Dabney Coleman, the "confession" scene with Ellen Pompeo and the courtroom scene). And I adore the bluelight scene with Joe and Bertie in bed.

I've seen the movie many times and always enjoy it.

Monica said...

In my opinion he is perfect as Joe Nast. And I do not think he was young for the role.
I think those expressions and age was consistent with the character, which was lost in the middle of the whole situation.

UV, thanks for the info. I will do everything possible to see the program about POP.

Thanks for this great information about laod. I think in August we will have the first images and trailer. They should start talking about the movie, because so many films that will debut only in December already had their first images released.

Cathy E said...

I was surprised by just how much I loved MM. I didn't think Jake was too young at all; I thought he was perfect. I had rented it, and I had to watch it again, I think twice more.

I loved Susan Sarandon's role too, and Ellen Pompeo's. Bertie's mourning someone too. It's a very striking film, where she's stuck in time, the jukebox playing songs from 3 years ago or something. They really captured the sense of loss and grief, but not in a melodramatic way. There's like a breaking of silence - phones ringing, radio blasting. These are just some of the things that stood out to me. When Joe comes to Bertie's place, and the moonlight scene, are so well done, as well as the courtroom scene, and Jo's anger/grief. I love it; I really should buy a copy for my collection. And it was filmed in Massachusetts! :)

I hope everything is Ok by you Mary. Heard that there was an earhtquake yesterday in the afternoon in L.A./San Diego/Palm Springs area.

Jake was a bit young for the role of Nast in MM IMO, but he gave such a wonderful performance, but I am curious like you FL on how he would approach the role now that role now.

All quiet on the Jake front it seams, hope he is just relaxing and kicking back.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the interview with Maggie in Good Housekeeping

thanks tweety for your concern im fine but it was pretty scary for a few minutes it was a pretty good jolt i was talking to my son at the time he lives he san diego he didnt feel it ut he was in truck at the time it was a 5.4 earth quake which is pretty big it was centered in borrego springs which is only about 40 50 miles from where i live

I did like the imagery of this tweet from yesterday:

Carissajaded: My best friend saw Jake Gyllenhall running shirtless on the beach. I don't think I've ever been so jealous.

I also loved what Maggie said in the GH interview that UV posted last night:

I like to cook. I put Ramona to sleep, put on an album, measure everything out, put it in bowls. I used to cook the way my parents cooked: They’d have a dinner party, and they’d still be cooking when their friends came over. When I cook that way, I have a terrible time. I can manage making salad when I have people over — anything else, I just can’t manage it. My brother [actor Jake Gyllenhaal] is an incredible chef, a really gifted chef, and he can cook that way. I can’t do all those things at once!

She really IS old school isn't she? Album? Bless. But the part where she mentions Jake entertaining/chatting with his guests while still preparing and cooking touched my like-minded heart. <3

bobbyanna said...

Awww! FL you and Jake are social chefs! Maggie sounds like my sister-in-law. Very organized and methodical. Easily distracted. Love it that Emma Thompson and Maggie are friends.

Found this post on FB from three hours ago:
"Great night with great company. Jake Gyllenhall sighting at film festival. I LOVE SUMMER ON MV!"

I don't think we're going to see anything much at all from LAOD until PoP has run it's course.

I hope they'll at least start strategically leaking pictures from the movie on the internet by August, tho.

FL said...

If they're saving LaOD for a TIFF premiere, would there be trailers this soon? Won't the trailers come after TIFF? How did that work with Rendition? Was there even a trailer? LOL

FL said...

Just in case anyone was wondering what Jake saw last night at the MVFilm Festival...

Bill Cunningham New York

Chica said...

Love that interview with Maggie from GoodHousekeeping, I can certainly relate to her regarding preparing to cook for guests ::))

That is a lovely image: Jake running shirtless on the beach, sigh.

Thanks for the FB sightiong of Jake at MVFilm fest Bobbyanna!

That looks like a really interesting documentary on photographer Bill Cunningham, thanks for the link FL!

I do remember trailers for Rendition FL, but you're right, I remember seeing them after TIFF.

Monica said...

TIFF? I remember the first trailer for Rendition came just before the TIFF!

I think if laod is all that some people are saying, this movie probably will go to the Venice Film Festival as with that movie with George Clooney. Except that Fox has other plans for it.

FL said...

I think it could do both, Monica. TIFF and Venice. BBM did. We'll see.

Oh hey Chris and new facial hair.

UltraViolet said...

Entertainment Tonight had a "first look" at Rendition at the beginning of August, 2007. I think they had the official website up before Toronto, as well.

So far, we haven't seen anything from LaOD, not even a photo!

I'd love it if LaOD plays both Venice and Toronto. Someone blogging about the telluride FF mentioned it as a slight possibility.

That documentary about Bill Cunningham looks very interesting. Hope Jake enjoyed it.

Glad the earthquake didn't get you, Mary!
