Capital climes

Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon continue to make the most of Reese's location shoot. After watching the Red Sox beat the hapless Nats, Jake visited Reese on set, where the cast and crew have been working long hours into the night. Perfect time for a snack. And some Starbucks :)

Sigh...I'll be sad when they leave D.C. for Philly. I hope the Philly Tweeters are up to the task.

I'm sure they'll get a little break in between D.C. and Philly since it's so close to July 4th.

P.S. The news outlets are reporting that Farrah Fawcett just died. Poor thing suffered so. So sad. RIP

Oh, man, that's so sad. Obviously it's been coming, but still. Thanks for letting us know, FL.

Oh, this is funny. The "other guy" who had his screen caps posted on SimplySensational is actually the owner of the Washington Capitals, and the guy who saw Jake and Reese the other day at the Four Seasons.

Jake Gyllenhaal and me. We are everywhere together it seems, Father’s Day at the Four Seasons and last night at the Nationals game.

Maybe I can join his posse? Jake, Lance, Matthew and me. :-) Click here to see our photos. Thanks Simply Sensational. Too funny.

Wow, Jake and Reese's PR team is getting some high-powered people to support their "campaign." :)

I heard about Farrah earlier. She suffered so much.

RIP Farrah.

SQUEE!!!!! I adore them in DC!! Seriously this has been awesome. :D It will be sad when they leave.

Really sad news about Farrah Fawcett. RIP.

These latest on-set pics are great. I love Reese's jeans jacket with the white dress and her hair, and the hugging pics. Jake looks wonderful, and so glad he's a Red Sox fan!

So sad about Farrah Fawcett. :(

What sweet, loving pictures! And I love the picture of them at Rita's, they are so lucky!

I will miss them in DC as well, they seem to be really enjoying themselves while she is filming.

Farrah passing away was not unexpected, but still sad.

RIP Farrah

I was so giddy when I saw these pictures today, they look smitten and totally in love. Thanks so much for posting them, it helped with the news today regarding Fawcett and Jackson.

A double shock today, first Farrah and now Jackson. Farrah isn't a shock may she rest in peace but Jackson, stunned.

I grew up listening to him and the Jakcson Five.

A great talent but obviously his personal life and and his bizzare behavior will tarnish his legacy.

bobbyanna said...

I'm just stunned. Farrah and Michael Jackson both in the same day! Farrah was a brave sweet person and she went thru a lot. I liked her.

I was a Michael Jackson fan back in the 70's and 80's. Saw the Jackson Five perform, back then, and he was with them. They put on an awesome show. Off the Wall, and Thriller were two of my favorite albums. After Thriller, he began to change and became more and more eccentric. Too much so for me.

It's sad, but most of us will remember the Michael from the past 15 years, with his sordid scandals and his bizarre appearance and behavior, but he was undeniably the pop culture icon from that era.

The pictures you've posted in this thread are lovely. They look so sweet together. I just gotta find a word to replace "adorable". I'm open to suggestions...:)(sigh.)

FL said...

Oh maybe I was too cold in my dismissal of Michael Jackson's passing. We grew up together Michael, his brothers, and I. Still have and can still sing every lyric to every song from their first 6 albums and Michael's OTW and Thriller. I don't know if I'm proud of that or maybe it's more like those lyrics are ingrained in my brain...Bennnnnn (my favorite song about a rat)...

I loved the Off the Wall album, though in my case, the Off the Wall 8-track cassette - remember them?

I remember the near hysteria leading up to the release of the Thriller album. So much so that my best friend and I had to leave work early that day to get over to Strawberries when they opened at 10am to get it before it sold out.

But it was about then that our paths diverged, Michael's and mine. This wasn't the same boy I grew up with. When he started carrying Emmanuel Lewis around everywhere I thought "Yeah...something's not right here."

I was such a fan of the first half of his career, shame about the second half, where his real life overshadowed his undeniable talent.

FL said...

Farrah and Michael Jackson both in the same day!

And someone just reminded me how the legendary Groucho Marx's death was overshadowed because he had the misfortune of also dying on August 16, 1977. The other was Elvis Presley.

suvee said...

I'm already prepared to like this James Brooks' movie..... I will always associate it with the great bounty of Jake and Reese photos, sightings and tidbits we have been spoiled with this past week or so.

And as much as I love J&R hugging pics, my favorite from this latest set visit has to be the next to the last one in this post. Just look at the expression on his face......

I hope to do another PoP update tomorrow night. And as bobbyanna so insightfully observed, it really does help when one has a..... um...... fondness for the subject matter. :)

The news about about Farrah is so sad, even though it was expected. And Michael Jackson..... I was never a fan of his, but what a shock!

paula said...

Such sweet, loving pictures of J&R. It obvious they are devoted to each other. I think these are my favorite pictures of them.

Such sadness today:

I grew up listening to Michael and his brothers. Loved them and their music. I used to run out and buy all their albums and every issue of Right On magazine that they appeared in.

Michael was clearly the star of the group, i liked his Off The Wall album better than Thriller much to the dismay of my friends.

As I got older and Michael got more wierd and started to seriously creep me out, I became less of a fan, he had become a sideshow. Such a talent and died too young.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and children. RIP

And Farrah who from all reports was a sweet loving soul. She suffered so much, may she rest in peace.

bobbyanna said...

I guess I lean more to Off The Wall, too, paula. But, yeah. The Jackson Five were THE big thing musically back in the day.

Now that I think of it, we had J5 albums, too. Vinyl.
Yes, FL. Cassettes. Audio cassettes. :)

FL said...

And to make it worse, I think Michael Jackson broke Twitter!

UltraViolet said...

Yeah, Twitter is definitely having issues. We need you back, Twitter - Jake is probably only in DC for a few more days.

Such a weird day. Like most people, I've had no use for Michael Jackson in recent years. But you can't look at those old pictures and see that sweet young kid and not feel bad/sad at the course his life took.

I don't think he ever even had much of a life, for all the fame and wealth he acquired and all the strange and damaging addictions and predilections he developed.

When you look at the damage that Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal's son (and all of O'Neal's kids) have suffered, then look at the pain Michael Jackson endured and inflicted, it's hard not to wonder if fame is worth it.

UltraViolet said...

Speaking of the price of fame... it probably includes getting your photo taken at a red light.

This sighting is much happier.

The LA Times ran a story about the New Oscar Math, and Brothers was listed as a movie whose wildcard AA chances increased with the new 10-nominee policy.

Finally, I think someone above said something about loving Reese's look and I have to say that I adore that white dress she was wearing last night. Nice choice, wardrobe!

agent_krycek said...

I'm finding this all quite weird, I grew up with the Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson, never a particular fan, but I've bopped my stuff down the school disco to the music etc, but other then feeling sad for his kids, this isn't impacting on me at all, whereas when we lost Heath I was in pieces for days, can still get a bit weepy about it these days.

Back O/T, seriously, who sticks a camera in someone's face while their stopped at a red light

All good news about Brothers, really looking forward to this.

shondra said...

Love all the set pics and sightings, we are getting spoiled! I think there is going to be a break in filming and then it Starts again in Philly.

Looking forward to your Pop update Suvee, thanks so much!

Wasn't a fan of Jackson but he was an incredibley talented but troubled man. Condolences to his children and family. RIP

An angel is now with real angels as Jacklyn Smith said yesterday about Farrah's passing. RIP Farrah.

get real said...

I am still in shock over Michael Jackson. FL, your post about him is exactly how I felt.

I Was a huge fan during Thriller and Off The Wall. Broke the record of Thriller because I listened to it over and over every day. Sadly he just got stranger and stranger as time went on and I lost all interest. He was a true talent though, just had a disturbing way of being too childlike. Such a strange and sad childhood, despite the fame.

And a RIP for Farrah Fawcett. So talented and such a beauty. What a battle she faced and I hope she is at peace now.

On topic, why would anyone think they would get a good response from Jake or any other celeb when they shove a camera in their face at a red light. *shakes head*

Glad to see the other sighting, from a while ago, was better.

It sounds like they are wrapping up in DC filming. Probably be off for the July 4th holiday and then off to Philly. I just hope that we get just as many twitters/pics and sightings, we were spoiled this week.

Not a fan of the 10 BP nominees but if it means that Brothers has a shot then I may change my mind! Thanks for all the updates and links and I'm looking forward to your next installment Suvee!!!

Such sad news yesterday about Farrah and Michael. With Farrah we all knew it was coming but it was still very sad news to hear. She's at peace now,she suffered so much.

Michael was a shock. I wasn't a fan but he was such a talent and died way too young, such a troubled man though.

RIP Farrah and Michael.

Okay..... more "impressions" to pass on.

First, I discovered that about 1/3 of the photos are backgrounds only...... desert shots, buildings, etc., no people. So that reduces the total number of Jake pics. :(
But even these photos are gorgeous, and I will include their descriptions in a future comment if you all want.

- another absolutely breathtaking picture is a close up, shot from the shoulders up. The shot is taken from slightly below Jake's face. He is not looking directly at the camera, but looking off to the left of the frame (FL, it's a partial left profile!). A very quietly intense expression on his face. His hair is in disarray, stray strands falling over his face. One of the strands of hair falling over his left cheek has a silver bead in it. His facial expression looks very similar to the shot we saw previously where Dastan is kneeling in a crowd, so this might be from that same scene. It's just a very powerful photo because it's a perfect example of how incredibly expressive Jake's face can be..... and it's primarily through his eyes. In this photo he is the essence of defiance and pride, with a heroic soul. (sigh)

- this next photo I'm including mainly because it answers all questions about his hot, hot body. It's a green screen shot. He is in what I've come to think of as "standard" Dastan clothes: metal vest/breastplate, the leather pants and boots we have all drooled over, maroon scarf worn as a belt, all kinds of leather straps, cuffs on both arms. He has a scimitar in each hand. His hair is off his forehead, blowing back off his face, and his expression is all business. Definitely a "don't f**k with me" vibe. It's a straight on shot, he's looking at the camera. His body is amazing! It's definitely not over bulked up, steroid looking muscles. Insane arms, narrow hips, thighs that are not too big and not too small...... everything is just right!

That's it for tonight. I'm trying to keep these comments to a decent length, and not post a freaking book.

Looooove it. :) I hope we'll get to see a little something. The description sounds gorgeous.

These photographers are being very kind to me, lol. I can't wait to see these.

Here's a question, suvee, are there any other cast members in these pics with Jake or are they all solely Jake?

Once again, I can't thank you enough for bringing your impressions over to us. As you've said before, it helps that you're fond of the subject matter. You've been painting the most beautiful pictures for us. :)

suvee said...

FL, there's only one pic that is not just Jake...... it's a long shot of Jake and Gemma on horseback in the desert.

I imagine that different licensees will have different selections of photos, depending on their product requirements. Our marketing strategy is pretty much tied to the action/adventure hero aspect. Dastan is the focus. Now that I think about it, that probably holds true for many of the other licensees as well.

You have a way with words - and Jake. Are you writing the copy for this thing, because you should!

Definitely a "don't f**k with me" vibe.

It's only a year away, right? Less than that now.

Sigh.

Thanks for the observations re: steroids, as well.

Hope you're resting up for more, suvee :) Thanks again.

There was a twitter yesterday that Jake and Reese were going to get a tour of the White House, but the tweet mysteriously disappeared. Looks like Jake did go to the Newseum, though.

We've got to hand it to Reese Witherspoon, who's still in town filming that rom-com we keep telling you about. She sure must be nice.

The actress and boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal stopped by the Rita's Italian Ice in Adams Morgan on Wednesday afternoon (both ordered the lemonade flavor, if you're interested). Then they agreed to the staff's request of a $1 donation for pediatric cancer research, even signing those paper lemons that go up on the wall. Easy enough.

But it was Witherspoon's next move -- ordering enough Italian ice for the entire crew of her film -- that went the extra mile. She arranged for it to be delivered to the movie set around midnight.

In other Reese/Jake/movie news, Gyllenhaal and six friends went back to Oyamel, site of a cast party earlier this week, for dinner Thursday night (sans Witherspoon, who was working). Co-stars Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson toured the Newseum with Gyllenhaal yesterday afternoon.

Your descriptions have been amazing Suvee, sheer poetry! Wrist cuffs, the silver bead in his hair, has me going swoony this early in the morning.

Wow Suvee, it does help that you are very fond of the subject matter!

Breathtaking descriptions, his hair, his costume, expressions are so vivid, you really should write!!

You observations about steroids are much appreciated since there was so much chatter!

I was wondering also about other cast members as well, sounds like it's just Jake/Dastan, which is a good thing, lucky girl!!

Thanks so much Suvee, you have made a lot of Gyllenhaalics very happy.

Welcome back, Leonor! And thanks as always for the kind words. Forgot to say welcome back to Rosa above, as well.

For the first night in a while, I hadn't found any links to sightings. Some tweets I'm sure you've all seen, including one calling Jake "impossibly gorgeous." But no details.

But,alas, it's not a washout. I found this short clip of Jake and Reese leaving "God of Carnage" a few weeks back. Love "Jack's" move and the little smiles/laughs exchanged.

And while we wait for more of suvee's poetic picture painting, someone made up their own PoP PoP trailer from the footage we've seen so far. It's not bad, though there's no voiceover.

Silly but fun.

suvee said...

It occurs to me that I have neglected to give an "inventory" of the PoP photos I have access to. I'm reluctant to divulge too much (I am trying to be sensitive to the proprietary nature of this material), but I thought some information would be helpful.

Most of the photos are static poses...... no parkour shots, and very few true action shots. There are some green screen shots, all with Jake in the same costume I described previously, in various poses.

There are a series of photos of Dastan in the desert...... one is a close up of the same scene that opens that YouTube "trailer". He is standing on the summit of a rock cliff and is wearing this amazing long brown coat, decorated in a beautiful sort of inlay paisley-ish pattern. Same v-neck white shirt we saw in the U.K. pics.

One of the shots in this series is a close up of Jake, semi kneeling with his left arm resting on his left knee, sheathed sword in his right hand. In this pic you can see a large, intricate silver link bracelet (I had to enlarge to 800%!), His hair is unkempt, but it pretty much is in all the pics. I actually like it 'cause it adds to the authenticity. I hate pretty "Hollywood" hair in period films where it is totally incongruous.

Another desert pic has become a personal fav of mine. I hope I can do it justice. Full on shot, Jake facing the camera. He is wearing the standard leather pants, with a short sleeve white top. His head is covered in a black head scarf that drapes down to cover his neck and some of his chest. The maroon scarf is wound around his head as a band on top of the black scarf, just above his eyes. Very dramatic, and really frames his face quite nicely! But it's his body language that kills me. His legs are apart, left leg slightly bent, weight on the right leg.... it's just a very casually sexy pose. His head is down turned ever so slightly, his mouth is just barely open (be still my heart), his eyes are sleepy and hooded. For some reason every time I see this photo, the first thing that comes to mind is, "You talkin' to me?" :)

Please keep in mind that these descriptions are filtered through my personal lens. When I say his body looks totally non-steroid, that observation is based on my definition of what steriod bulk looks like. Same goes for the interpretation of facial expressions..... it's what I am seeing. Others might have a totally different take.

I will probably do one or two more of these posts..... but at some point I'll just be repeating myself. There aren't that many photos, and there's only so much that's different or notable between them.

Anonymous said...

I'm glad to hear the hair is unkempt, also. Don't want the helmet head look.
