People Gets It Wrong Again

For the fifth consecutive year, People Magazine has chosen the wrong Sexiest Man Alive. It's clearly Jake Gyllenhaal. And it has been, since 2004:

Click for 100 Sexy Men In A Minute - it does take the whole minute to get to the best :)

Nothing against Hugh Jackman but come on already! I clicked through the list online and there are some that I agree with like Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem and Blair Underwood but no Jake!!!

UltraViolet said...

Apparently, Reese talks about love - interpreted by JustJared as talking about Jake - in this week's Us Magazine.

And hello to Sass! {{{Sass}}} from the last post.

Thanks to Monica for the Will Smith tidbit - that was funny. Posting again, In case anyone missed it:

"Then, Herald film critic Rene Rodriguez told Smith that Gyllenhaal is the uncle of Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal," the actors. "Once again, without missing a beat, Will said: Man! You should freeze some of that sperm!"

As for the Brothers dates on IMDb - it would be great if it opens that soon. It does make the Cannes premiere seem unlikely, though.

UltraViolet said...

I think they left him out completely last year, too, josie. It's crazy, I tell you!

Wait a minute.... Jake is No 100???!!! I've never seen a poll for this, has anyone else? And I've never heard of lots of those guys. But we did get warning recently in another poll that Robert Pattinson was about to become Flavour of the Month. :D

Anonymous said...

I love that they picked Hugh; he's one of my favorite actors. But, Jake has a long career in front of him, and I have no doubt that he will grace the cover of People as the Sexiest Man Alive one day. I'll enjoy the wait. Reese was lovely on ET, down-to-earth and a good sport, the only person who could make a flashing Rudolph nose look elegant. ;)

I'd love to know how they come up with 100 Sexiest Men. That list is full of FAIL. And why are they using a Jake pic four years old?

And why is there no U.S. release date other than "2009" on the Brothers IMDb page?

Questions questions.

UltraViolet said...

No, Narcissa, that 100 list isn't in order. I think it's an honor they ended it with Jake. Saving the best for last, you know :)

I know I'm old because I don't get the Robert Pattinson thing at all.

I wish they'd used a more recent picture of Jake, too. But at least they didn't use that awful one from a couple of years back.

The list is terrible, though. And I like Hugh Jackman - he seems like a great guy. But I don't find him sexy.

Anonymous said...

at least they didnt pick zac efron cant stand him dont know why

FL said...

Oh anon, look again. Zefron is in that video montage of 100 Sexy Men, near the beginning. The key word there is MEN...Zefron is still a boy. Blech.

Anonymous said...

i know hes on the list i met at least he wasnt number one

Anonymous said...

Well they did leave the best for last but why the old pic? I don't get the Robert Pattinson thing either, it must be my advancing age too!

What a cute quote from Will Smith!
bobbyanna mentioned on the previous post that there was a US poll about who would make the best husband and Jake was winning, go vote!!

Didn't get to wave to Sass in the previous thread!

Yes Reese was so adorable with the Red nose, she is so cute and goofy.

Anonymous said...

Great post!

Of course the sexiest man is Jake! Sheesh!

I don't find Hugh Jackman that sexy either. I also wonder if they were influenced by the fact that he has a big holiday movie coming out(Australia).

I did love him in the clips I saw of him as Peter Allen, but he's no Jake!

UltraViolet said...

I really think People missed the boat in 2005 - that was Jake's breakout year - Jarhead was just out and the buzz on BBM was strong. They were fools, and chose McBongo instead. Idiots.

Oh, if you need the direct link for the Us poll, it's on theire homepage.

UltraViolet said...

Also, Wikipedia has a February release date for Brothers in the US. And a December 16 UK premiere date. Does anyone know if this is recently added info?

Anonymous said...

Yes the list is a major fail for the most part and there are tons of newer pics of Jake flaoting around, sigh.

LOL, UV about Jared and US magazine, thanks for the link to the US poll.I have a feeling that that information on Brothers on Wiki may be dated.

Anonymous said...

Hugh Jackman is a nice, good looking guy, but sexiest man alive?? We are biased, but after reading some of the comments on other sides we are not the only ones surprised. And I will never understand how someone can call Zac Efron "sexy"...I am sure our man will be on the list at the latest in 2010...:-))

If they want to present "Brothers" in Cannes they are not able to release it in Europe before this date and also not able to show it in Berlin - according to the Cannes rules. And I don´t believe (or better hope) that the February release date is true - we all know what a January/February release date usually means for a film. As long as I don´t hear anything else official I believe the producer (??) who talked to Jeff Wells told the truth about a summer release date.

Anonymous said...

Nothing against Hugh or any of the others on that list but Jake is by far the SEXIEST man alive, you need only look at the pics you posted UV, and for me the older Jake gets the sexier Jake gets.

Monica said...

Good night, babblers!

I prefer my list of sexiest man!:D

UV,thanks for the link to the US poll. I voted!

It is not confirmed the presence of Brothers in Cannes. The producer said he wanted to include it in the Festival.
Maybe he has changed his mind about the Festival. He may want that the movie has its premiere in Berlin, to be held in early February.
And February is a good time to debut films, because there is no big competition like in the summer.

Anonymous said...

"And February is a good time to debut films, because there is no big competition like in the summer"

Sorry, but I disagree. Usually, when a studio bumps a movie's release date it is a strong sign that the studio does not have faith in its success. Once the producers realise there is zero chance of getting Oscars out of a film, there's almost no point in supporting it. And it needed to be Oscar-bait, since the commercial prospects are limited without awards attraction.

"Brothers" is ready for months why didn´t they market and release it properly? And I don´t believe the "Jake was not available" story.

Sorry, I don´t want to sound so negative but after the "Nailed" fiasco I had so much hopes for "Brothers"....

Monica said...

...when a studio bumps a movie's release date it is a strong sign that the studio does not have faith in its success.

I agree with you on that. I also think the studio did not like the movie.

Monica said...

But that does not mean that the studio is right.

Anonymous said...

Will People magazine ever get it right? I like Hugh Jackman but I don't find him sexy at all.

I have a feeling that Sheridan wasn't too happy with Brothers, I thought I read somewhere that he wanted to do some more editing or something.

Just voted for Jake in the Us "husband material" poll (talk about a no-brainer!)...... he's leading at 68.62%.

This is how I know I am old..... not only do I not see the sex appeal of Zac and this new guy, Robert.... I don't (and never have) understood the Leo D. lust factor. To each his own though.

You're right UV..... People left Jake off the "Sexiest" list last year too. What's wrong with them?! Although, they do seem to favor "older" men for their "Sexiest Man Alive"...... maybe after PoP they will see the error of their ways. :)

Anonymous said...

WTF, People Magazine, WTF?!?! Whatev, Jake is still tops on the list with us! ;)

I do love Hugh Jackman and a lot of the guys on the list, but Jake is obviously my main guy and should be near the top!

That Will Smith tidbit is very cute! Although your link here, UV goes to JustJared, not the Will Smith article.

Wonder what Reese has to say about Jake. :)

Anonymous said...

As for the Brothers news....:/

"This is how I know I am old..... not only do I not see the sex appeal of Zac and this new guy, Robert.... " I had to L.O.L. ! suvee. At least you guys got his first name right.:)

The 100 men aren't in order. I agree with UV. They saved the best for last on the People slideshow. I just shake my head.

I like Hugh Jackman. I like Matt Damon, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Will Smith, etc. etc. etc. I like Leo. I adore Clooney. OK? But Jake is the Sexiest Man Who Ever Existed In the History of the World. I mean...there's Jake. Then there's everyone else.

I console myself with the fact most of their choices are in their 30's or 40's and Jake will get it next year, definitely. Just in time for the hype for PoP....uh...did anyone notice if Jon Hamm was part of the slide show????? heh.

Anonymous said...

Oh my...... I've got it bad for Jon Hamm!

I think I need to watch that video montage again. :)

Reese has the 60 Seconds interview in Metro today (free London newspaper), nothing specifically about Jake, (metro.co.uk) but...

Would you get married again?
I don’t know. I don’t think about it much.

Well, why would she be thinking about marrying again, I'm sure this one's for the long haul ;-)

I heard that even Jackson's wife had a chuckle over the choice! Handsome, yes but I don't find him sexy. I think it will be different for Jake when Pop comes out.

I have a feeling we are going to be hearing the I don't think about marriage much and i'm not marrying anytime soon from Reese during this press junket!

Jake should be wrapping up filming soon, we need an updaye from bs!

These answers to the marriage question are vague enough not to be a lie or a denial. Reese is a polite, Southern girl who is putting us off in a nice way.

I can't imagine how they pick the sexiest man but they are short-sighted and wrong.
Hopefully when Jake's sexy body emerges in POP he will be considered our sexiest man by People's Powers that be.

OT..Please forgive me...I post this because I miss you, I find it hard to post for nearly 2 out of three weeks of this therapy and I can't stop muttering to myself as I leave to go shopping. :lol:lol

As a single mom, I've become convinced since the financial meltdown this year, and in particular since September, that my long-lamented budget process is just as good as any Investment Bankers financial manipulations.
I can't believe how fast and loose our money was played with by those Masters of the Universe.

Mitt Romney's op-ed piece in WAPO "Let Detroit Go Broke," is the most cruel, most ill advised solution to this crises I've read yet.

What about people my age who worked hard, and who should according to him, should lose some, if not all of their retirement benefits which includes their health coverage.

Thank God he isn't President.

Sharing an article with Heath, TDK mentions, and a positive Jake Reese mention...Hope this isn't in repeat mode.

I don't think the story about Reese transferring her daughter to a new school are real recent, as in this year. This is a recount of various comments she's made about papparazzi harrassment and how it affects her kids, probably over the past two or three years. She is sharing her collective experiences. It's true they do stalk kids at schools and that should be illegal. There's a report Jennifer Garner has a stalker! She had to get a restraining order.

UltraViolet said...

Actually, the comment is from this Parade Magazine article about Reese. Some highlights:

"Do I need men?” actress reese Witherspoon asks. “I don’t think it’s about needing men. It’s about love.” ...

I ask if she worries about her children’s safety. “After my second baby, I was scared,” she recalls. “It’s hard to protect your babies from the press and all the people out there wanting a part of you. It made me hibernate a little bit more. I got very ‘Mama Bear’ and protective. You give birth, and worry and guilt come with it. It’s a natural part of being a parent. But for me, the most difficult part is seeing my children being followed and harassed. They’ve been treated terribly. They were shouted at in their Halloween costumes, photographers screaming, ‘You don’t look scared!’ We used to take our daughter to a wonderful school, and she was so harassed that we had to take her out. I hope not to live in this place forever.
...

Since her divorce, Reese’s long friendship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal, 27, has garnered increasing media attention. A year ago, as she and Jake starred together in the film Rendition and her divorce was being finalized, the media speculation about their romance heated up. When Jake’s in Los Angeles, he reportedly stays at her home. Recently, Jake, Reese, and her kids have been spotted together in London and Paris, leading to questions of possible marriage.

“Family is all we have in life, but I don’t know how I feel about marriage,” she tells me. “Obviously, I’m not far enough out of being married to think about doing it again. You sort of reconstitute your family. You find a family, with people who come into your life for a reason.

“I definitely still have a capacity to love,” she continues. “Someone said to me once, ‘No matter what breakup you went through or what new love you find—the love you remember, like the love you now value, is yours. Whatever love you once gave to somebody else, it doesn’t go away. Even if it is only remembered love, it belongs to you.’”

Reese smiles.

“Things change,” she says, “but your ability to love remains intact. Oh, I have a lot of hope for love! I do!”

Anonymous said...

I'm really confused, Jake wants to be a father he has said.

She doesn't even know if she wants to get married, so I guess this means no kids again? Or kids and not get married, which is fine

Anonymous said...

let me rephrase that

Does Jake still want kids of his own? and would he be with a woman who is not sure she wants more kids?
Maybe Reese isn't planning to have more kids, I thought Jake wanted to be a dad one day

UltraViolet said...

She doesn't say anywhere that she doesn't want more kids. I don't think you can infer anything major from this interview. It's all pretty vague, which is the point.

Reese isn't going to tell us if she's planning to get married, because that's all anyone will focus on and she/they will be hounded about it.

I think she essentially says that her family has been restructured and, I infer, Jake is part of that. But again - vague, so you can interpret it any way you want.

Anonymous said...

I really understand this part
She hasn't been divorced for that long, I am sure she and the kids are still adjusting.

“Obviously, I’m not far enough out of being married to think about doing it again"

UltraViolet said...

This picture supports my two rings theory. You can see it looks like one in this photo.

I really do think it's The Return of The Rings that has looked like one ring all this time.

Anonymous said...

There are no quotes saying that she doesn't want any more kids, she just says that it's too soon after divorce to think of getting married again, just like she has been saying during the PR for Four Christmases.

From what I gather, the press were probably not told to refrain from personal questions so they ask about Jake and marriage, but she is just being cagey and giving general anwers/quotes to maintain some kind of privacy.

From where I sit the situation is this: Jake and Reese are living together by all reports and she seems fine with that for now and I assume he is as well. She doesn't want to go on record as saying that but that's what I think. All the marriage talk is from some who think they should be married under the circumstances, but like she said and I agree it's a bit too soon to think abiut remarrying.

She seems to be talking mostly about the kids, holidays, and shared custody as a tie-in with her movie. IMO the talk about Jake and the kids and the custody arrangements are taking away from the movie, it's barely mentioned which must be frustrated.

She will get a lot more of this next week when she does the talk shows with talk of chicken coops and not marrying anytime soon, etc.

And boo-hiss on People magazines list, major fail!!

Anonymous said...

it does look like she is wearing two rinhs on her middle finger. Jake used to wear two rings on his pinky finger with some writing on it. I can't tell if there is writing on hers, but they are similar. And what are the odds that twice she seems to be wearing similar jewelery. Do you think that "mysterious" poster on IHJ that dissappeared after dropping that little tidbit waas telling the truth??

It would explain some thiongs like why are most the interviewrs so far asking her about marriage and she has to deflect and spin like a politician with talk of a man making her a chicken coop, about opening up to love and being hesitant about remarrying, etc. It seems a bit much especially while promoting a movie.

If she was just simply dating Jake or they were just living together, like reported than they wouldn't bring it up. Could it be that they have heard something and they are trying to get her to slip up????

UltraViolet said...

Extra, these are The Rings that were one of the first clues Jake and Reese were a couple. FL noticed them a looong time ago and put two rings and two people together :)

Anonymous said...

Ahhh, yes! RingWatch! I think her publicist probably told interviewers they would be limited to one question about personal relationships. Or something like that. They do that sometimes. Limit the number of questions on a subject.

They will tell the media "she is here to talk about her movie so you better make it relelvant to that or you're toast!" It's almost unavoidable, given the subject of her movie, not to talk about her divorce...which leads to talking about getting married again...which leads to Jake.

UV, she sure has a way of phrasing things. Clearly her "family has been reconstituted" is saying Jake and Reese + kids are a family! :) :)

I think she handles the media really well. She has a lot of poise, and she's very intelligent, and media savvy. Jay Leno is always nice to her. I bet Letterman will be, too. Ditto Regis and Kelly. Now Ellen is a different story. Ellen may tease her, bcz they're good friends.

Sass!!Good to see you! I live in Southeastern Michigan, and I can tell you this has to be one of the most depressing places in the country right now, bcz of the auto industry crisis. Funny. A lot of Republicans in Michigan supported Mitt Romney bcz of his father, who was an auto industry exec before he was our governor. I think his daddy would whup his butt for those comments. There were people in Michigan who would have supported McCain if Romney had been on his ticket... he still would have lost.:)

Anonymous said...

Oh man you two are good! I never picked on that. Or the charm of his that she wore briefly last year. I think the cagey answers and her vague answers may frustrate some but I think I understand where she is coming from: public image vs her private life.

There has been so much talk during this press junket about her being a down home country girl, family oriented, etc which she is but she is also a single mother living acording to all reports with a man and her children with no hurry to make it legal. I have no problem with that but others might so she and her people throw the press a bone and are vague.

I took the restructuring of her family as including Jake as well and that was a s far as she is going to go IMO to confirming that they are probably living together.

And she did start wearing those rings in late September if I remember. Good detective work UV and FL!!

Hi sass!! Good to hear from you, I hope all is going well.

Mitch Romney can go to hell as far as i'm concerned. What a nasty hit piece in WAPO. And yes, thank God he isn't president!!

Lemon said...

Ya know, Jake is one of those men who gets sexier as they get older. With each passing year he's getting more and more handsome. I'm pretty sure he'll top that People pole soon.

Concerning Reese, I've said it time and time again. She's a old pro at handling the press and anything she says in these situation should be taken with a grain of salt. She knows exactly what to say and how to charm the press.

Anonymous said...

I agree that Jake gets better and sexier as he gets older. He should have been higher on the list and nothing against Jackson, but sexy?? Um, no.

That's one of the things I like about Reese Lemon too is that she is PR smart. And I agree with you UV about the restructured comment, she was talking about Jake.
Great detective work on the rings, we need AK to weigh in now on this!

Sass/Bobbyanna i echo your sentiments. It's really bad here in Philidelphia, the econmy is in the toilet. Things are going to get a lot worse before they improve but i'm happy that Obama won, I think he gets it unlike jackasses like Romney.

PRINCE OF PERSIA: The Graphic Novel

The Prince of Persia universe is one of the best-known and best-selling gaming brands in history. With 10 games and over 10 million copies sold, every new installment becomes one of the most popular releases in the gaming world. This fall the new "Prince of Persia" video game will be released and in June 2010 Disney will release Jerry Bruckheimer's hotly anticipated film version of "Prince of Persia" starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Sir Ben Kingsley. On September 2, 2008 First Second Books introduces PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE GRAPHIC NOVEL ($16.95; paperback original) from series creator Jordan Mechner.

Written by Iranian-born A.B. Sina and illustrated by the husband and wife duo of LeUyen Pham and Alex Puvilland, PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE GRAPHIC NOVEL is an epic feast for the eyes and mind. Two parallel storylines interweave the destinies of two princes who live 400 years apart. Guiv's tale takes place in the 9th century while Ferdos lives in the 14th century on the eve of Genghis Khan's great Mongol invasion. Love, war, corruption, power, and mysticism connect the timelines across centuries, providing new insight into the legend of the prince and asking if he is human or a universal archetype.

Deeply rooted in Iranian history and mythology, and brimming with links to the games, it is above all a thrilling adventure.

I always thought one of the rings that Jake used to wear was a gift from his mom..... and it had an inscription..... something about light and dark. Anyone else remember that?

I also inferred that Reese's "reconstituted family" included Jake. :)

We've missed you sass..... glad to hear from you!

Look. For those of us who care, everything points to an eventual wedding and more kids. They live together. They are a couple. They take trips with the kids. He flew home for Deacon's birthday! Ava sits on his shoulders to watch fireworks.

If those media people are looking for more confirmation beyond Reese admitting she is in a relationship to that guy, Cojo, they will have a long wait. She is saying nothing. I bet Jake will keep mum, too. These two are more into chicken coops then red carpets. LOL! I think definitely think they will marry. And I definitely think there will be more kids. Gyllenbabies.

Access Hollywood and all these other news stories are saying that Reese doesn't want to marry Jake. I think it's wrong, if it's true she said that, to be saying it in public when he isn't even there to defend himself. I cannot believe she is being so negative about the relationship. It scares me they might break up.

Anonymous said...

I think you are confusing no marrying to not curently looking to make their union permanent which has been her stance since her ET interview last week, nothing new. And I think Jake knows her feelings on the subject so i doubt that he is surprised, they are both smart, mature adults and her reasons for hesitation makes a lot osf sense, Jake has himself a real speacial women IMO:

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Reese Witherspoon may be happily involved with Jake Gyllenhaal. But though the handsome, blue-eyed actor has been spotted with the blonde star and her children in locales from LA to London, she isn’t currently thinking about making their union permanent

http://www.accesshollywood.com/reese-witherspoon-talks-jake-ryan-and-why-shes-proud-of-her-career_article_12273

BTW: Othe news outlest are reporting the same, she isn't ready yet.

Anonymous said...

I don't know what shows you are watching but the one's that I watched tonight did not say she had no intention of marrying again but that she wasn't ready, she is a bit leery, not sure etc. I think you are a bit confused.Check the google alerts, they are actually quoting the Parade/Us/People quotes correctly for once.

Not ready and no rush, IMO.

Anonymous said...

1. They might be taking their time in the relationship, adjusting the kids to a new family and a possible step-father

2. Reese is probably just being careful what she says to the media, to protect her children, and act as a respectable mother and parent

We don't know anyones private relationship, but divorce is a real life altering event, and she has cause to wait for marriage again

Hope to see pics of Jake soon.

It may be a generational thing. I don't ever really like anyone's legs or feet in those clunky dark colored gladiator type shoes or boots.
my mom was unhappy with so many of my youthful style choices; that must be my problem. I love everything about Reese's look but the shoes. :)
Lucky Jake: he's so in love with a bright accomplished woman with heart. They both look totally happy.

Now, before I melt into a huge ever-spreading Jake/Reese lovey-dovey gooey puddle, I'm off to my Oncologist's office, thinking about all my babbling friends.
love to everyone if I don't get back tonight... or for a while.

{{{Sas!}}} You take care and come here and babble anytime :)

I saw Quantum of Solace last night and was amazed at how brief Gemma A's appearance was. I think yuo said you didn't like the other Bond actress, sass, but I liked her more than Gemma. Didn't really like the movie, though.

I hope Jake makes a slam, bam, modern action movie someday. It would be so much fun to see him running and driving and shooting!

Forgot to say yay to Reese going to London next week. I assume that Graham Norton is not a show that would air an interview taped weeks in advance?

Hi Sass! Hope all goes well, hugs and positive thoughts are going your way.

Saw QAS as well and it was just Ok. Was surprised how brief Gemma's part was.

If I remember correctly, the Norton show either tapes the same day or the day before airing.

My linking skills are non-existent, but I thought you might want to know about this. It looks like Jake will be finishing just in time. This doesn't sound good for Reese's next film project, tho.:

"LOS ANGELES – The Screen Actors Guild said Saturday it will ask its members to authorize a strike after its first contract talks in four months with Hollywood studios failed despite the help of a federal mediator.

SAG, representing more than 120,000 actors in movies, television and other media, did not specify what led to the impasse, saying only that... "management continues to insist on terms we cannot responsibly accept." A SAG spokeswoman said she would not comment further.

SAG's national board has already authorized its negotiating committee to call for a strike authorization vote if mediation failed. The vote would take more than a month and require more than 75 percent approval to pass.

SAG is seeking union coverage for all Internet-only productions regardless of budget and residual payments for Internet productions replayed online, as well as continued actor protections during work stoppages

But the AMPTP said it was untenable for SAG to demand a better deal than what writers, directors and another actors union accepted earlier in the year, especially now that the economy has worsened.

Earlier this week, the producers' group said it had reached its sixth labor deal this year, a tentative agreement on a three-year contract with the local branches of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts, accounting for 35,000 workers.

The stagehands alliance accepted Internet provisions that were modeled on agreements with other unions, the producers group said.

Actors in prime-time television shows and movies have been working under the terms of a contract that expired June 30, with the hope of avoiding a repeat of the 100-day writers strike which shut down production of dozens of TV shows and cost the Los Angeles area economy an estimated $2.5 billion."

I can't remember a November being this cold.

That is not good news for the industry, looks like Disney dodged a bullet, this could get real ugly.

Reese looks like old Hollywood in the premiere pics, very classy, definately channeling Grace Kelly with that look. I predict the movie will do well.

And yes to her doing the Norton show in the UK next week!

Morning everyone

If all calculations are correct, Jake is due for a hair soon!

I wonder what kind of hair cut he will do after POP and will he shave his prince scruff

{{{{{Morning babblers,}}}}}
Reese did project old Hollywood glamour. I want to see Solace again but I don't know when. If this buzz keeps up I may see it later today.
Oh no, not another strike, please! This is not the best time to strike, but a strike never has a "best" time. If it has happen it will.

I lost my emotional investment in a few of my favorite TV shows last strike. One of my favorite shows isn't as good as it was, or maybe it's me and the show is good, but I don't like the episodes this season.
I'm happy for Jake; his movie is on track.
Fingers xed:)

OT
Pictures of the lovey-dovey Obama's give me a big big happy smile, similar to pics of the lovey-dovey Gyllenspoon couple:). The Bidens aren't far behind in the lovey dovey department. It seems like we may have fun and good times in the White House with these two obviously in love couples, and not a moment too soon.
love you all,

Hmmm. It seems that press conference that Reese did last Saturday that yielded the Parade magazine article, USA, People story quotes were "cleaned"up a bit. This exchange here shows that she let some things slip as she was being cagey and vague. The 1st slip up is cute, shows where her mind was, but the rest confirms they are happy with the way things are, etc:

IT IS the moment Reese Witherspoon has studiously avoided, the slip of the tongue that sends the Academy Award-winning actor almost diving under a table to hide her embarrassment.

"I usually take movies based on scripts and who I'll be working with," she says earnestly of her latest comedy, Four Holidays.

"And the main reason I did this movie was to work with Jake."

Problem No.1: Four Holidays co-stars Vince Vaughn.

Problem No.2: Jake Gyllenhaal is the boyfriend Witherspoon has so carefully steered clear of mentioning for the past half hour. She cringes visibly.

"Oh my God, I am so embarrassed," she says, emerging from beneath the tablecloth.

"The main reason I wanted to make this movie was to work with Vince because he's so funny and so great."

Then she is quick to regain some composure.

"Jake is funny, too," she adds.

"Am I not talking about Jake? Jake, Jake, Jake."

And, having opened what she refers to as "this can of worms", 32-year-old Witherspoon then has little choice, but to allow a few tidbits to escape.

Divorced from actor Ryan Phillippe, with whom she has nine-year-old Ava and five-year-old Deacon, Witherspoon met 27-year-old Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain, Jarhead) when they co-starred in Rendition (2007).

After keeping their romance under wraps as long as possible, Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal were photographed holidaying in cities such as Rome, but neither has spoken at length publicly about the relationship.

Witherspoon doesn't plan to start now, but does reveal she and Gyllenhaal have "no other plans than just to be happy".

"We're very happy; all is well," she says, and by now she is the confident, in-control movie star again. Does Gyllenhaal get on well with her children?

"Um, yeah. I mean -- yeah," is all she will say.

SO so funny!:D:D:D

This is delightful! Jake is clearly on her mind. Bet he will really enjoy this gaffe! So their "plan" is to be happy. I like that. Great answer.

This does give us a bit of insight. Especially when she talks about being a real structured person, and now she is more flexible and open. Does this mean Jake turned her into a "loose " woman?? :) :) :)

Oh bless Reese, that's hilarious :D

I SO wish there was a video of this interview. I'd give anything to see her expression when she realizes she's called Jake's name!!!

UltraViolet said...

That is priceless, extra! Thanks for posting it. I don't know that it was necessarily at that press conference, though. I'm pretty ure the Parade interview was a one-on-one. I think it would have come out if Reese had let that slip in front of a bunch of reporters. Plus, it says she hides under the tablecloth in embarrassment.

But hee - wherever she said it! I bet Jake will tease her about it.

Jake, Jake, Jake indeed.

I'm glad their "plan" is working out. Happy is good.

UltraViolet said...

Oh, I agree, Bobbyanna. I'd love to have seen that slip of the tongue on video!

I'm putting my fingers in my ears and ignoring the strike talk. La, la, la, la, la.

"Am I not talking about Jake? Jake, Jake, Jake."

Bless her heart. But who among us doesn't understand having Jake on the brain (a lot)? And yeah, I have a feeling she's in for some teasing from Jake.

Thanks so much, extra! What a wonderful find.

A strike should be avoided at all cost, with the econmy in the crapper it would a disaster.

Most don't want to strike, hopefully cooler heads will prevail.

Yeah, she has Jake on the brain, LOL!!!

I forgot to add to my above post that Alan Rosenberg , pres. of SAG is nuts if he thinks that the members will support this strike with this economy.

AMPTP contract was more than fair, and there is no reason why SAG members shouldn't except the same, the strike will be voted down, period.

PS: Reese is hot, funny, sexy, and is one smart cookie, Jake is one lucky dude!

If there is a strike will POP shut down :(
They are so close to being done filming

Anonymous said...

Thanks! When this popped up on goggle alert this morning i thought to myself: the girl ahs it bad and who can blame her!

I wonder how many slips she will have next week when she does the talk shows. She seems so happy and relaxed and i noticed it with Jake too when he was here last month.

I think PoP will wrap just in the nick of time. According to what I read, it sounds like it will take SAG officials a little time to communicate with the membership on what's at issue, then they'd vote on whether or not to strike. If they do vote to strike, they will then set a date certain for when they will walk off the job. I'd like to say that it will probably be about 30 days, but I'm not too sure. sag actor, what do you think?

Anonymous said...

Sorry to spam. Just wanted to add that I almost wish Reese hadn't tripped with the newspaper reporter. Maybe now she will be on her guard. I wish she'd have slipped like that on national TV.:)

Anonymous said...

If a strike is authorized then a set date will be given to members to walk off the job, probably after the holidays sometime in January.

But I doubt that members will vote to strike, there is very little support for strike. I sure the hell ain't voting for it !

Pop is safe, if filming is on track according to brothers spy, then Jake and crew should be done around 12/3.

PS: Alan Rosenberg is a jackass, worst Pres. of SAG evah!
