SMA

Jake Gyllenhaal apparently does make an appearance in People's Sexiest Man Alive issue. They got the cover wrong for the eighth straight year, but this is a nice shot of Jake:

Gyllencrazy posted these Hollywood Elsewhere clips the other day. A few clips from an End of Watch Q&A at the Screen Actors' Guild after the L.A. premiere:

Over the wall, Beautiful Man!

Jake Gyllenhaal stars in The Notebook. No, not a remake of that treacly movie. The Notebook is a local London magazine, and Jake is the May cover boy. It's a recycled picture, but there are some fun tidbits in the interview.

Q. It seems like Dastan has a bit of Indiana Jones in him. Was that your intention?

A. Oh yes, definitely, along with Dennis the Menace and all the rest. I like that Dastan’s a mischief-maker, a bit of a curmudgeon, that he nearly always thinks he’s right and that he’s quite sarcastic and wry and above all very cheeky.

Q. You’ve played characters based on real people, but where do you begin with a fictitious 6th century Persian prince?

A.There’s lots of pretentious research I could tell you about, but it really did start with the accent and also with projecting my voice. For a movie like this to be successful, you need a grand scale to everything, a bigness, something theatrical. I worked with a voice coach, and she brought in these ancient texts. I would stand at one end of the pool in Los Angeles, she’d stand at the other end, and I would shout things like, 'Over the wall, men! Over the wall!' It was like doing theatre. It put a bit more fire inside, made me feel a bit more like a warrior. There was a lot of physical work too.

Q. You never thought about getting a stuntman to do the difficult bits for you?

A.[Laughs] No, I always want to do as much as I can myself. And I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to fight sequences. I want to get every move down perfectly, and I refuse to accept anything less than that.

Q. You’ve made some big films, but it seems like Prince of Persia is on a different scale…

A. I just thought, 'Wow!' Even during the rehearsals, when I got to see pictures of what the production designer was planning, it has just blown my mind, everything from the amazing costumes to these huge sets and the locations in Morocco. And it’s not just the size of the film and it’s not just the scope, it’s also the detail in the costumes and sets.

Jake also made People Magazine's Most Beautiful People list:

JAKE GYLLENHAAL
He plays the adventurous – and buff! – Prince of Persia this summer, but off-screen the actor, 29, is a regular guy who doesn't need much to make him happy. "I feel my best after a home-cooked meal with family and friends," he says.

Jake Week in Review

It was a hectic week for Jake Gyllenhaal fans, punctuated by three beautiful new photos. Tomorrow will be the Brothers premiere. But before that excitement, let's review the week in Jake. The big news of the week was People Magazine's choice for Sexiest Man Alive. For the 5th straight year, they got it wrong. But they did make up for it slightly by choosing a new photo of Jake:

I hear People put someone else on the cover, but here's the real sexiest man alice: Jake Gyllenhaal.

The week began with an InStyle photo of Jake - and a stunning photo it is:

Friday brought a gorgeous new poster from the Prince of Persia:

We also got new Brothers photos and I found bigger versions - just click:

And even better, clips - especially, The Kiss:

Of course, the week isn't over yet. Who knows what the day will bring...

Happy Thanksgiving!

New Jake pic - leaving a Thanksgiving party in London. Thanks to Stephanie/IHJ!

We didn't quite get it together for a Thanksgiving-themed post, but here are a couple of favorite Jakes to be thankful for:

There's a fun poll on which celebrity couple you'd want to spend the holiday with. Current standings:

Jen and John — They're so funny, I'd probably laugh my way through dinner.
22% (236)
Reese and Jake — Even overseas, I bet they go for a traditional holiday feast.
45% (476)
Fergie and Josh — I'd love a cozy turkey day in North Dakota!
6% (67)
Heidi and Spencer — I want to hear all about the wedding!
2% (16)
Beyonce and Jay-Z — Maybe B can teach me the "Single Ladies" dance.
17% (181)
Ashlee and Pete — I want to meet the baby Bronx!
8% (89

A couple of People tidbits:

Most Romantic Vacations

JAKE & REESE: LONDON
They've cozied up in Morocco and watched fireworks in Paris – and in October, Gyllenhaal (on a break from filming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) accompanies girlfriend Witherspoon on a very intimate London shopping trip. The twosome stopped in Myla, the chic lingerie store that created Sex and the City's infamous pearl G-string.

Shh! Not-So-Secret Couples Who Intrigued Us

REESE & JAKE
Just five months after she split from Ryan Phillippe, Witherspoon quietly stepped out with Rendition costar Gyllenhaal in March. And while they haven't made public declarations of love, the two have traveled the world together, getting cozy in London, Morocco and in Paris, where they spent Bastille Day with her kids. "He's very supportive," she told Vogue. "I'm very happy in life."

Thanks to Jake for being Jake, to FL for being a great co-conspirator and to all of you, regular posters and lurkers alike, for making this a fun, safe place to be a Jake fan.

People Gets It Wrong Again

For the fifth consecutive year, People Magazine has chosen the wrong Sexiest Man Alive. It's clearly Jake Gyllenhaal. And it has been, since 2004:

"A true artist and a really good guy"

That's how Brothers producer Ryan Kavanaugh described Jake Gyllenhaal to People magazine. After all the inane gossip of the past weeks, it was nice to hear someone who knows Jake describe him the way I think of him.

And it was fun to hear Kavanaugh's view of Reese and Jake :)

Since Jake didn't rescue us from The Post That Wouldn't End, I figured I'd just start a new one, despite the lack of news from the Nailed set. No new pics, either, so here's a late addition to the Malibu Park photos from a couple of weeks ago.

I won't be mad if I wake up to find new Jake pictures, sightings and happy news. Until then, post away with your thoughts on Jake's artistry and/or humanity.
