Jake, Jake, Jake

In a recent interview , Reese Witherspoon revealed more than she intended when explaining why she made Four Christmases:

"The main reason I did this movie was to work with Jake."

Problem No.1: Four Holidays co-stars Vince Vaughn.

Problem No.2: Jake Gyllenhaal is the boyfriend Witherspoon has so carefully steered clear of mentioning for the past half hour. She cringes visibly.

"Oh my God, I am so embarrassed," she says, emerging from beneath the tablecloth.

"The main reason I wanted to make this movie was to work with Vince because he's so funny and so great."

Then she is quick to regain some composure.

"Jake is funny, too," she adds.

"Am I not talking about Jake? Jake, Jake, Jake."

Don't be embarrassed, Reese. It's totally understandable that you've got Jake on the brain.

Reese is not alone. When asked what she would have made her first priority if she'd been elected Vice President, Sarah Palin seemed wistful:

"I was really looking forward to negotiating with the Prince of Persia. Also, too, the precondition was total nakedness."

When pressed for details, the governor's spokesman murmured something about a "buildup of arms" and "hidden weapons." And by "nakedness," the governor apparently meant "transparency." Reporters were also assured that Governor Palin knows the country is now called Iran and is not a monarchy. And that sand monsters are not real.

Two budding superstars were in the same boat as Witherspoon and Palin. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, stars of the new blockbuster film Twilight, revealed the reason they took roles in the emo tale of bloodlust:

"I just couldn't pass up the chance to work with Jake."

At the reporter's confused look, they acknowledged that Gyllenhaal isn't actually in the movie. "The producers tricked us. It happens more than you know. How do you think they got Pacino to do 88 Minutes? He was Jake-faked."

That is pretty much the only thing that could get me to see Twilight.

Finally, new old Jake, Jake, Jake:

Thanks to Monica for the heads-up on this video clip of Ben Kingsley talking about working with Jake - for real:

Sir Ben Kingsley has revealed what it is that makes Jake Gyllenhaal "so good" as the Prince of Persia in upcoming film, The Sands of Time.

Sir Ben said that Gyllenhall, who plays lead character Prince Dastan, brings a natural confidence that is perfect for the role.

The Donnie Darko star's character will face his nemesis Nizam, a nefarious and scheming monarch, played by Sir Ben.

Good morning, babblers!
UV, this interview is so funny!

I agree with the bobbyana, should have a video that moment!:)

Sir Ben Kinsgley about Jake:
POP

That's wonderful!:)

That's very insightful. Using Jake as the carrot to entice actors onto projects.... hmmm. Guess that confirms how well-sought-after he really is.

Loved Reese's slip and allowing us to see her happiness being in that situation. She seems smart, grounded and level headed. Let's hope that they learn from what's happened around them and from each other.

It's been nearly 3 years now so the honeymoon period should be over and yet the magnificent obsession for Jake has not waned, not one little bit. Jake, Jake, Jake indeed :DD

sheba said...

"a lovely effortless confidence"

that just about sums up our Jake.

BTW That split screen picture, is that Jake and the real Prince of Persia (Iran)? they look like spooky twins (you know, when someone wants an actor to play their life story they choose a more handsome, younger similar looking person).

Jake's an enigma, wrapped up in sexiness and sprinkled with hundreds & thousands of ideas - hmmm.. all this food talk is making me hungry.

sorry to double post.

UltraViolet said...

Thanks, Monica - I embedded the video in the post in case people can't get the ITN video to play.

I've been dying to hear Ben talk about Jake;so glad it's so genuine and complimentary.

Indeed, Sheba, that is Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran. Jake made a cameo in an SNL spoof video (done by Andy Samberg and Fred Armisen from SNL and Adam Levine of Maroon 5). It's hilarious - you have to check it out. They show that split screen, but Jake also pops up in person :)

Jake and the real Prince of Persia, I remember that SNL skit, it was too funny! Thanks for posting UV and thanks for the link to Ben's comments about Jake monica, "effortless confidence", what wonderful comments!

Reese has Jake, jake, jake on the brain! Love the little glimpse of their lives, but i think bobbyanna might be right in the previous post that she may be a bit guarded now.

UltraViolet said...

Yeah, it definitely would have been more fun to see Reese slip up on Letterman or Regis. Maybe the jetlag will get her on Graham Norton!

Great stuff! LOVE hearing Sir Ben say such wonderful things about working with Jake! Very exciting. :D

So cute that Reese has Jake on the brain! LOL, Jake, Jake, Jake. :p

I was just at Barnes and Noble so I had to look at the People issue. Jake gets a tiny picture with a quote. From Emmy Rossum! WTF. Talk about out of date.

And the quote is something about how Jake can talk politics or make fart jokes. I think they could have come upwith something better than that!

Off to buy more crap...

sheba said...

Thanks UV, unfortunately, I can't see the video as it's unavailable outside the USA. But I've seen a glimpse of it on E! and wondered why bearded Jake poped up again on SNL. Now I know.

BTW The fart jokes and politics do go hand in hand anyway, don't they? :DD

The 100 greatest movie characters/Empire Magazine

38. Donnie Darko

"I hope that when the world comes to an end, I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to." Donnie Darko

Played By: Jake Gyllenhaal
Film: Donnie Darko

Why He's On The List: And you thought you had the weight of the world on your shoulders when you were in high school. An upgrade on the rebellious teen, throughout Richard Kelly's scorching debut Donnie remains just enough of a mystery to stay intriguing, without ever being alienating. Is he mad? Or is something trying to tell him something beyond our comprehension? Most still don't have the answer when the credits roll, but this troubled kid's journey is one we're happy to watch again and again.

Finest Hour: Burning down the house of 'motivator' Jim Cunningham, which serendipitously exposes him as a pederast.

I would love to see Reese slip up on Kelly and Regis or Norton, Jake, Jake , Jake, LOL!!!

Loved Ben's comments on Jake, what a class act, botBen and Jake.

Is it safe to assume that Reese must be in NYC now? I half expected to see J & R pics this weekend.... thought he might make a quick trip over. But I realize that wasn't a realistic expectation on my part since she will be in the UK this coming week.

OT: I never took Blogs 101, so I'm somewhat ignorant of blog protocol..... I don't understand who deletes the "This post has been removed by the author" comments. Is it the owner of the blog, or is it the person that posted the comment? Dumb question, I know, but I'm confused! (I always assumed it was the blog admin, but the word "author" confuses me.)

At least he'll be home for Christmas. ;)

Yes, Jake will be finished with Pop soon and back home!

Love her slip-up, definately Jake on the brain and who can blame her. I love Ben Kingsley and love what he had to say about Jake, can't wait until 2010.

Ha, using Jake's name as bait, sounds good to me!

She will be making the rounds on the talk shows this week, should be interesting!

Just saw Reese on Regis and Kelly

1. talked about the farm, her chicken coop
2. She is spending Thanksgiving in London
3. The kids don't like her signing
4. Kids church holiday play

general stuff, very general

She had on a purple like dress, and a big ruby like ring on her hand, and a gold band on the other

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the info!

I like how she has planned the PR/interviews for "4 Christmases" - means some private time together in London for them. I don´t think Jake will get free time until they are finished with shootings - especially with the strike possibilities.

By the way - "4 Christmases" is getting very bad reviews - lets hope it will be at least a box office success.

I like what Ben Kingsley had to say about Jake - I always liked him since "Gandhi" and felt bad that he decided to be in some really shitty films....

UltraViolet said...

Thanks for the report Google Blogger. Looks like Reese was on GMA, as well. Did anyone catch that?

I love it that Reese and Jake will have a London Thanksgiving.

Great clip of GMA, googleblogger! Thanks. It seems like Reese is throwing off a kind of sexy, vibe lately. She looked lovely and girly with Diane Sawyer.

I'll be running around a lot today. I'm headed to NYC tomorrow, to spend Thanksgiving with Youngest Daughter! Oldest Daughter just e-mailed from Morocco, where she's just spent two nights "camping out"
in the desert. She said the whole country looks like a movie set, from what she's seen.

She's been there a week, said that the only stars she saw were in a very spectacular night sky! :) I keep reminding her to shake out her shoes and stay away from toads.
I want an authentic tagine from Morocco.

I hate that I missed Regis and Kelly. Hope someone will post it to YouTube.

I was just thinking what other shows she night do over here apart from Graham Norton - it's a long shot, but there's a chance she just might appear on Top Gear as the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car - that segment is recorded on Wednesday, same day a Norton is taped - Mark Whalburg was on it last week, and the image of teeny tiny Reese next to huge Jeremey Clarkson appeals to me lots

Anonymous said...

So there is a chance Reese might be bringing something special home from London

hum! Hummmmm.....

Thanks for the link to the GMA interview google/blogger, I hope her appearence fro Regis and Kelly pops up on you tube. I'm sure Jake and Reese have a lot to be thankful for this year!

sheba said...

Thanks UV, I can see it now and understand it better in context (I'd only previously seen about 3 seconds with Jake in it and some inane babling from those girls on The Daily 10 - Sal's ok though!).

Ben Kingsley is a class actor. I was amazed by his range from Ghandi to deranged gangster in Sexy Beast to evil vizor in PoP. And sword fighting too at his age - it's like he's rediscovering his youth. They do say 'once a man, twice a child' Bob Marley

"it's a long shot, but there's a chance she just might appear on Top Gear as the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car "

Ooh... now that'd be exciting. I love Top Gear and it would be hilarious to see Reese doing the Top Gear's top lap time. She's just gotta beat Simon Cowell's time as she's had plenty of practice dodging the papz.

There's so much to be thankful for - I do envy your thanksgiving holiday in the US as it's so appropriate for any religion or culture (don't know the background to it but I expect it takes on different connotations each year I guess). We have harvest in October but it's never celebrated. In a cynical world like this is there really is still so much to be thankful for. One of them being great places like this and a few other blogs to indulge our 'cravings'.

Sadly no Reese on Top Gear accordingy to the Beeb site :-(

Just Norton from what I've seen, but I'll try and keep an eye out, outside of daytime TV there's not that many chat shows on at the moment (and seriously, Reese interviewed by Alan Titchmash - wrong on so many levels), but Jonathan Ross would have been guaranteed.

Has anyone else noticed that some of those entertainment blogs that mindlessly repeat things have picked up the "I wanted to work with Jake" story, but don't seem to understand that it was a mistake? LOL. It makes no sense without the explanation!

UltraViolet said...

An interview with Beau Willimaon, the writer of "Farragut North." Jake's rumored participation is mentioned but not explained.

This part is interesting:

I’d heard the film rights to Farragut North had been bought by George Clooney's production company. Are you still attached to that project, and what should audiences expect so see changed in the process of transferring the stage property to film?

The film rights were actually optioned by Warner Brothers, not Smokehouse Productions (Clooney's company). Warner Brothers brought on Smokehouse and Appian Way (Leonardo DiCaprio's company) as producers. When WB optioned the rights, they hired me to write the screenplay. I have since completed it. As for differences between the play and the film, audiences can expect to see more characters, more locations, and a broader story, but the core main characters will remain the same, as will the core trajectory of Stephen's journey.

Don't for get to catch Reese on Letterman tonight.

Four Christmases is getttin bad reviews but I was surpised that A.O Scott from the NY Times, EW and Salon.com liked it.

Anonymous said...

I was up so I caught Reese on Letterman. The first part was Dave catching up with Reese since she wasn't on the show since WTL 3 years ago. Talked about winning the AA,
dinner last night withafriend, a tarot readerstopping by their table, the farm and that she will be in London on Thanksgiving for 4C pr(but we know it's for more, heh)

Spent more time talking about that stuff than the movie! Showed a clip, audience, Dave laugh and that was it. Had a feeling Dave was pushing even though her people said no personal questions IMO.

One thing I did notice: she had the gold band or maybe it was the signet on her left middle finger, but in the pics of her outside the studio she had on the ruby ring on her right hand and no gold band, then just the gold band. I think she took the ruby ring off for the interview in case Dave asked about it.

BTW, she was rocking the G. Kelly look again, loved the black cocktail dress.

IS REESE NYC BOUND?

Is Reese Witherspoon planning to change her home address?

After dropping by the famed Milk and Cookies Bakery in New York City yesterday, the Four Christmases actress spent the afternoon hunting for houses in the West Village.

Previous reports from Britain stated that Reese was searching for a love den in London with beau Jake Gyllenhaal where the actor was filming the Prince of Persia flick.

Meanwhile, Reese is addressing those rumours of tension between her and co-star Vince Vaughn on the set of her new holiday comedy.

Says Miss Witherspoon: “Every co-star I ever work with I’m either having an affair with him, I’m about to get married with him, or having a baby or we absolutely cannot stand each other. We got along great, we were very good friends and we were very much partners on this movie. Vince is the funniest person I’ve ever worked with. It was a challenge for me to stay there and keep up with him. But I feel really a better actor for that experience."

Hi, all! New York was rainy, chilly and crowded yesterday but the sun looks brilliant this morning.
Saw Reese last night. Sounds as if the kids are with dad for TG. I think DL wanted to tease her, but decided not to. I'm appalled to learn about the mess with the parents and I have to agree that I'm not a fan of Stephen ever since the book reading "incidents" in NYC. It has to be sad and embarrassing for the kids, but I'm sure they have been dealing with the reality of all this far longer then we know. It's the public nature of it that has to be wearing, right now. Really glad they have work and good relationships to keep them grounded. I had to go to Columbus Circle to meet my daughter and thought about popping in to the Mandarin Oriental to say hi! to Reese but decided against it!:) She's probably on her way to London. I thought she looked VERY glam last night. Definitely channeling the Grace Kelly thing.

agent_krycek said...

NYC actually makes a lot of sense for Jake, he always seems at home there, Maggie and Stephen are already based from there, and maybe they'd be hassled a bit less by the paps.

I'd imagine she's already here, Graham Norton tapes on Wednesday to go out tomorrow - I'll give as full an update as possible, don't usually watch, but as it's sandwiched between two favourites of mine it won't be too much of a hardship

Hi guys, can I just say f.u. Vince Vaughn for completely acting like a j.a. and letting do Reese all the work? Unprofessional is a kind word for what he is.
Thanks for covering Reese tomorrow Agent K!
About the Gyllenhaals, sad business. Even sadder that some sleazy site has to obtain the documents and present them. So low.
There are always two involved in a relationship and the dynamic is between these two. As we do not know anything about their life it´s probably best to not speculate who wronged whom. At least I think that. In the end it´s hard for both of them to have their marriage and all they achieved together vanish. As hard as it may be to realize that there was love and trust once, this may help to finalise things and somehow keep ones soul clean, so to say. I would wish them both that they will be able to make that happen.
A wonderful Thanksgiving to all of you!

Hey Smile, Happy Thanksgiving to you and to all GBers who celebrate it. Re Vince Vaughn, I thought I read somewhere, I think IMDb, that he's off filming his next movie in exotic lands far away. So seems he has a legitimate excuse for not promoting the film Stateside.

Re the family divorce situation, I don't know if it's a stomach bug I'm coming down with, but this whole thing, i.e., seeing this story pop up in so many different places - makes me truly nauseous. I'm just sickened by the comments I've seen. I'm sickened that this personal information made the internets at all. And I'm sorry for all involved.

Hi UV, FL and fellow babblers,

I was up wanting to post this morning...arrrgh...when NY.com reviewed 4 Christmases. Neil Rosen loved Reese and Vince...the movie not so much (he gave it 2 out of 4 apples) but I'm still going to see it this weekend. I need the laughs and I love slapstick...think The 3 Stooges and you got me:)

Jake has mentioned his parents in several interviews, their arguments and their marital tensions. I'm sad for Jake; he's had so much tragedy and pain this year.
I've been off the mister ever since the situation everyone mentioned. How badly he was reported to have treated some of JAKE's fans when they went to give him a gift for Jake's niece.....arrgh. Thank goodness He didn't harm Jake's career too much.

love you all.

I'm off to take the bus to Wendy's, with my chemical mouth to buy a a sour cream and chives baked potato...x 2:lol...I can taste it but not much else.

I saw Four Christmases yesterday. All these people took their young kids to it, and in the opening scene there is something that I wouldn't exactly let my 9 year old see. And I just sat there dying. I'm mean, but they had to have known, this is more of a take your date type movie to. Not take your young kids. Vince and Reese had real chemistry, though the script floating around wasn't the script that made it to the screen. I was disappointed, there was a sub plot that would have been very funny, but they changed the sister character entirely so it wouldn't have fit. I don't think any of this was spoilery I hope!

Reese sounded like she was upset because some people were trying to trample some girl in front, and I'd be mad too. Sorry for bringing up the Gyllenhaal-Foner private business, I just think it's really sad all around honestly. I didn't mean to start a debate, I was just curious what others thought of it.

Anyway, hi Sass! I know I don't address you much, but it's good to hear you are doing okay right now. Happy Thanksgiving to everybody! Unfortunately I have to work tonight. Bummer.

Happy Thangsgiving everyone here at GB!! And Happy Thanksgiving to Jake and Reese who in the UK as I type this!

Thanks for the mini review Bette, I don't know why parents would take kids to a PG-1 film, it's not a kids film and yeah I heard about that scene. I'll probably catch it this weekend.

Feel really bad about the Gyllenhaal family personal business being aired out in public, sigh.

Again have a Happy Thanksgiving and don't eat too much!

Oh, Bette, please don't feel you need to apologize. I think we can all safely say divorce can be messy business but having all that mess out on the internets for all to see? Sad situation and I hate Harvey Levin for thinking that leaking that is some form of entertainment.

Okay, off to mash the squash.

Eat well, everyone. And don't forget to stretch.
