Stolen kisses

This woman knows how to take advantage of a situation!

She's always been very tongue-in-cheek has Gemma Arterton.

So there was a surprise in store for co-star Jake Gyllenhaal as they filmed their love scene for new flick Prince of Persia.

The Kent girl, 23, told us: "There's an unspoken no-tongues rule on set. But I got so carried away it kind of slipped out. Everyone said I was lucky to be snogging him, but he's the lucky one."

We wonder if his missus Reese Witherspoon would agree...

Honestly, can you blame her?

Gemma joins Emmy Rossum in the line of very smart woman who've seized the day - and the Gyllenmouth.

"I went over to him and said, 'Look, I know it's 9 a.m., but is it OK if I kiss you?' " Rossum recalls. When he consented ("He said, 'It's never too early!' "), she obliged. "I knew if I didn't do it, it would seem like I was scared. And I wanted to kiss him. He's very, very cute."

A history of Jakes movie kisses proves at least one thing...

...Jake kisses shouldn't be filmed in the dark! Let's hope PoP shines a light on Gemma's bold actions.

Now a look back at some Jake and Gemma non-kissing footage:

The prince

Have you had a tough week? I think these pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal on the Prince of Persia set might just cheer you up.

Oh, did I not mention he was shirtless? :)

Jake had a tough week, too - lunching and biking.

Hope everyone's enjoying the weekend. It's a beautiful day here - just a hint of spring!

Stories and smiles

According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Jake Gyllenhaal has the "most innocent" male celebrity smile. It's so innocent, those dentists apparently don't realize it's actually sly and sexy and spectacular. I like Clive Owen and all, but he has nothing on this:

And that's just in black and white.

It's a shame Jake never smiles anymore :)

Saw that Jordan Mechner, creator of Prince of Persia and screenwriter for the film, has a blog. He wrote a little about naming the prince:

As it turns out, the word dastan has shadings I wasn’t aware of — shadings that make it an even more appropriate name for the prince than I realized.

First, several people (including Jake Gyllenhaal the first day we met) have pointed out to me that Dastan is also a Persian word meaning ”story.” And so it is, although the vowel is pronounced differently. According to wikipedia, a Dastan is a type of Central Asian oral history “centered on one individual who protects his tribe or his people from an outside invader/enemy.” Hey, just like every video game.

He has a few other entries of note with regard to PoP. It will be interesting to see what else he shares about his experience.

What are some of your favorite Jake smiles?

Coffee run

I guess that would be more like a stroll. And I don't see any coffee. But much like many of us on the East Coast, Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon suited up to battle the fierce winter elements today. Except for them, it was what looks like some clouds and temperatures in the 60s, rather than, say, a foot of snow. You gotta love L.A.

In any case, I'm glad they got out of the house, so we'd have a post. I was trying to do a longer one, but none of the internets was cooperating tonight. So thanks, guys! And thanks, Stephanie.

Looks like Jake is providing an amusing running commentary! It's such a shame they are always so sad. Or maybe she's just laughing at his footwear.

To make up for my utter failure at doing an original post, here are some old pictures from the afterparty for the NYC Zodiac premiere. I don't think I've seen them before. Not exciting, but new, at least.

And I think I've seen this 2006 Oscar photo before, but I couldn't find it on IHJ. And I love the look, so I figured I'd post. We're still in Oscar season, right?
