Milestones

Happy Birthday to Jake Gyllenhaal. As we wrap up one year and begin another, let's celebrate some important 2018 moments.

First off, the birthday boy. Some birthday video compilations. We need one for 38 though!

To the joy and relief of many, Jake finally joined Instagram this year. He's only made two posts, but both have been hits. Jake's IG debut confirmed his role as Mysterio in the next Spider-man movie - his first superhero film. It also came right before Jake's exuberant appearance at Comic Con Experience Brazil, where he was enthusiastically greeted:

Jake and other stars marked the 75th anniversary of New York's City Center, where he appeared in Little Shop of Horrors and Sunday in the Park with George:

Brokeback Mountain was one of the films selected to be added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress this year. The films chosen are deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant to the nation's film heritage, to be preserved for all time.

"I didn't intend to make a statement with Brokeback Mountain," Lee said. "I simply wanted to tell a purely Western love story between two cowboys. To my great surprise, the film ended up striking a deep chord with audiences; the movie became a part of the culture, a reflection of the darkness and light — of violent prejudice and enduring love — in the rocky landscape of the American heart.

"More than a decade has passed since Brokeback Mountain was released, but I hope that this film, a small movie with wide open spaces, continues to express something both fresh and fundamental about my adopted country."

2019 will see Jake make his Public Theater debut:

In A Life, Gyllenhaal plays a man struggling to reconcile his emotions surrounding the death of his father and the birth of his daughter. Originally titled The Art of Dying, the piece started as a monologue that Payne performed at London’s Donmar Warehouse in 2013, in the aftermath of his own father’s death. Gyllenhaal, who gave deeply felt performances in Payne’s earlier plays If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet and Constellations, spent the next four years begging the playwright to let him perform it. By the time he relented, Payne had become a father, and he, Cracknell, and Gyllenhaal worked together to bring A Life into its current form.

Gyllenhaal relishes the chance to perform something that feels so personal and vulnerable. “The nature of being alone onstage, as much as it might delight the 30 percent narcissist that I am, terrifies the other percentage,” he says. “At its best, it’s not a performance. There are no masks, no protection.”

One of the year's biggest milestones was the 15th anniversary of I Heart Jake, the internet's best, most comprehensive and overall nicest Jake Gyllenhaal resource. We all owe a huge debt to Stephanie for running such a comprehensive, easy-to-use, up-to-date, one-stop resource for all things Jake. Even more impressive than the breadth of its content? Stephanie is the sweetest, most helpful person, even after dealing with all of us for all these years. From everyone here, a huge Thank You to Stephanie/IHJ. None of us could do this without you.

Jake with Annaleigh Ashford at her Live from Lincoln Center on Tuesday night. (Click through those IG sets - there are some photos of Jake.)

Another milestone for Jake - his Lincoln Center concert debut!

Good morning! Thank you for the new post, UV! I think the title really nails it, it´s a few milestones for Jake this year.

I hope we get the chance to see the PBS special in Europe somehow. I love Annaleigh and I can´t wait to see what she´s performed!

Paula C. said...

Happy birthday to Jake! Excited to see the PBS special.

UltraViolet said...

Stephanie, naturally, found some clips.

That reminds me of one of the biggest milestones I left out of the post - fixed now: IHJ's 15th Birthday, which happened last month, I think. Where would we all be without IHJ and Stephanie. We all (including Jake) over her a huge Thank You!

BlueJean said...

Happy birthday, Jake! You're an inspiration to me always.

And "yes" to all the milestones in the post. May I also please take a second to thank you, UV, for keeping this place going - even though it must've been hard this year, with people referring to August 28 all the time ;)

I'm old school enough to still appreciate the blog format, rather than "just" posting pictures. It's fun to still have a place to talk about Jake and his career. You know I'm always reading. Keep up the good work!

UltraViolet said...

It's beyond absurd at this point, BJ. But the person clearly has no life so this is entertainment for them.

Glad folks enjoyed the new post :) It is difficult to keep conversation going but I also prefer words to just posting photos and liking things. Even if I don't get here enough to make new posts.

From twitter:

Brandon Katz @Great_Katzby (Observer reporter)
I have just received confirmation that Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams and Ellen Page are all extremely kind to serving staff and it makes my day a little better.

Thank you for your kind words, UV! I wasn't expecting that. :) Many thanks to you, and all Jake's amazing fans, for visiting and supporting the site over the years as well. I appreciate each and every visitor. <3

UltraViolet said...

Aww, Stephanie, I'm so glad you saw the post. I was thinking it would be awkward to tell you to come look :) Honestly, I meant every word. And I know you do, too. You're the best.

Three Wise Men

Pretty negative review of Annaleigh Ashford's concert, but this was nice:

Ashford also performed two Sondheim numbers, a proforma “Children Will Listen” and a jawdropping reunited with Jake Gyllenhaal “Move On”. the 2017 revival of “Sunday In The Park With George” was so very good, and it was a joy to see them together again.

I read mostly positive tweets before reading that.

Jake posted an instagram story. I finally found a way to download insta stories, now I only have to find out how to post them here *lol* Meanwhile, other istagram-useres posted it:

Jake´s instagram story

So allegedly Ryan forgave Jake for laughing at his sweater.
I don´t know, is the source really legit?

I know you don't like gossip on this site, but have you seen the articles circulating about Jake today? How much truth to them do you think there is?

The tone of a couple of the articles and in the comments sections things aren't going too well. Eek. I hope it doesn't hurt his reputation.

Monica said...

Why would it damage his reputation? They are two adults. People will always complain.
Jake is not an idiot, he never hurt anyone, let him live his life.

Anonymous said...

Idle worries. If he's dating that girl, fine. If he isn't dating her, fine. Who cares? Certainly not the millions of people who will watch Spiderman FFH in July. The articles circulating about Jake today are overwhelmingly about the Ryan-Hugh-Jake Christmas prank. And they keep coming.

josh brolin I'm still outside knocking

thehughjackman Enough said

jakegyllenhaal Honestly, it’s really hard to breathe in this thing

They're like 3 articles on gossip sites. Two of them have 0 comments and the british tabloid, the lowest level of journalism, has few comments compared to the hundreds of dirty comments about the royal family. And the royals are doing just fine, reputation intact.
Twitter and IG posts about the Marvel-ous trio rule with hundreds of upbeat comments and thousands of likes. Spiderman/Marvel posts will prevail. Long gone will be the times when people were doing their damnest to bash, mock, trash, slander Jake on social media. MCU fandom will bully the bullies out.

Anonymous said...

I get that he has the right to live his life as he pleases. I really do, but I massively side-eye anyone that dates someone able to legally start drinking a year ago and they are pushing 40.

His woke 'I'm a feminist, I'm against ageism, I'm ready for kids' certainly feels insincere and just a line to get fans when there are numerous reports of him hitting on young good-looking women at the gym.

Anyways, those were cute photos with Hugh and Ryan.

Anonymous said...

The comments are interesting

Anonymous said...

I agree about the double standards.

He is always talking in interviews about how he wants nothing more in the world to be a father. I would prefer if he would just drop that act from his interviews. It's very clearly just bullshit.

He's still a great actor though and yes, I am enjoying his new Instagram.

UltraViolet said...

LOLOL. Looks like SarahJones the twitter troll has decided to drop by. Please leave the self-righteous sermons outside. People who post here regularly can feel free to weigh in, though I suspect most people won't. Even if most of us probably have opinions.

I have to laugh at the person who keeps repeating that it's odd for Jake to say he wants kids and then date a 22-year-old. Who better to have kids?

I'm going to keep these comments because of the LOLs but if we go too far afield here, posts will be deleted.

Anonymous said...

Is anyone pretending that comments on trashy gossip sites, who do nothing but gossip 27/7, are interesting or legit? Gossipers on gossip sites? What's next, the Bible of filthy Datalounge, the gospel of TMZ? Thanks for the laugh.

UltraViolet said...

Not a Josh Brolin fan but he is kind of funny on IG. And the Wolverine/Deadpool/Mysterio post was funny.

It's going to be tough going through the next six months, because twitter and IG are flooded with Jake mentions and random Jake hashtags. Add a girlfriend into the mix and all the concern trolls will make it nearly impossible!

Anonymous said...

I hope they are happy together. I'd love to see Jake as a Dad so hopefully she's the one.

Although they could just be super casual and the gossip sites have just claimed it's a relationship.

Diana said...

UV it will be tough! I wish filters would be more precise so I could search stuff minus specific topics. It works pretty well on ebay, for example.

It´s ITCHING me to comment on the whole girlfriend-"issue", UV! All I will say is that I was more mature at 22 and totally wanting to settle down and start a family (just couldn´t find the right partner) than other people I knew and know who were/are much older than me. Geez, even all of my job choices were made always thinking of how compatible the job would be with a family life, and I was only 15 when I started looking for jobs!

I bet Jeff Bauman will be/is having a ball with Jake´s role as Mysterio, I´ve already seen some funny Bubble Boy comments! I wish we´d get to know some of it, I´m pretty sure it would be hilarious! There is some funny fanart out there for a while now, too. I´m looking forward to the press tour, I´m sure Jake will not be spared of jokes on his account! This could be fun!

Real Sal said...

I'm more surprised he's managed to keep it under wraps this long. We've known since before August 28 ;)

Lipstick Alley (ugh, I know) and Lainey Gossip talked about it months ago but it never got to mainstream gossip sites.

bobbyanna said...

UV, this is a great post!!! So much fun to look back at all the great moments! Wonderful news about Brokeback Mountain, too. I thought the prank on Ryan Reynolds was hilarious. I want to add my thanks to Stephanie for IHJ. I can't believe 15yrs. have passed so quickly. I am SO looking forward to seeing Jake & Annaleigh on PBS. In fact I wish they had the entire performance of SITPWG on PBS.

Happy belated Birthday to Jake!!! And Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all of us. I'm looking forward to 2019!

#RESIST

Diana said...

bobbyanna, I hope that ONE DAY we get to see SITPWG, it´s been filmed after all!

LOL at #RESIST, you´re right about that and I apologize to everyone for not shutting up.

Is anyone of you going to see Jake at the Public Theatre? I always knew I wouldn´t be able to fly out to NYC in the nearer future, at least not for the next few months. If only NY would be closer....

I hope I can close the door on 2018 soon, it´s been a very straining year and at least the first few months of 2019 will be hard to get through, too. I hope things will get better, though.

BlueJean said...

#RESIST

LOL.

I've noticed that whenever there is talk about Jake's love life (which is strictly his own business, by the way), it's usually from people who post anonymously on this blog. I'll only pay attention to those rumours when Jake confirms them - which will probably be never ;)

2018 was a very difficult year for me too, Diana. A lot of worry and stress. I, too, hope 2019 will be better.

Monica said...

Jake saying he wants to have a family doesn't mean he wants it now, when he feels ready, then it will happen. If he has fallen in love with her then he should follow it, only time will tell if she is the girl with whom he will have a future or not. The same can be said for her. They are two adults. He didn't promise us anything.
I don't know what this has to do with feminism. If the young girls at the gym he beats are of legal age and he's respectful, I don't see how that's wrong.
She is French, the legal drinking age in France is 18 years old.

Real Sal said...

I hope she's not being trolled on her IG from his more intense fans. If I remember correctly, Alyssa had many negative comments when she and Jake were together.

It must be hard losing anonymity. I relish in mine lol.

Also, did you see that his insta has over a million followers? There was a 200k increase just with Ryan putting up that photo of them!

Diana said...

Merry Christmas to everyone! Hope you´re all having some wonderful holidays and get to spend precious time with your loved ones.

All the best for the New Year!!

UltraViolet said...

The IG numbers did go up dramatically after the Ryan Reynolds post. Not too shabby for Jake.

Lots of photos on IG and IHJ of Jake (and Hugh Jackman) backstage after the Yiddish Fiddler on the Roof performance last week. And a tweet from today:

Real life in NYC: Jake Gyllenhaal braving the Christmas Eve crowds in Russ and Daughters.

What courage! :)

Wishing everyone at GyllenBabble a very Merry Christmas! Even the troll :) Peace on earth and goodwill to all. I hope the holidays and new year bring good things for all of us.

Happy new year, 2018 was a very good year for me so I hope more good things for 2019. My wishes for me and all babblers is health, health and more health , the rest in life is second to that. UltraViolet said...

Happy New Year to all! Here’s to a crap-free 2019!

Paula, I love your perspective. It’s true that health is the most precious gift of all. May we all be blesssed with a healthy new year.

BlueJean said...

"It’s true that health is the most precious gift of all."

That's so true. My dad is very seriously ill right now :( :(

Dear fellow Gyllenbabblers: cherish the time with your loved ones. Time is so precious sometimes.

Diana said...

I´m healthy.
I´ve got a home.
I´ve got a job.
I am loved.
I am respected.
I have dreams.
I have hopes.
I have goals.

I am grateful.

I am waking up every day to the sound of one of my cat purring in my ear, and not to the sound of bombs and gunfire.
I am waking up in a nice, comfy bed, and not in a bombed home or a refugee shelter, freezing and being traumatised and terrified.
I am waking up next to a man who loves and respects me, I don´t have to dread him.
I will be having a wonderful New Years brunch later, not starving because there is no food.

My goal for 2019 is to remember MORE often how lucky I actually am, despite the difficulties and problems that seem to be so big but compared to what others have to go through, are so small. It doesn´t mean these things are not important, it´s just that I need to look at a problem in a different way sometimes, stay calm, figure out a way to solve it and then just do it. One at a time.

Life is full of challenges, and it always has tons of surprises lined up, good and bad.
We have to get our priorities right.
And then jump right in.

Happy 2019, everyone.

Let´s go.

Paula C. said...

Blue Jean, I hope your father gets better, but very important what you said, cherish the time with the loved ones, even if that time is shorter then expected.
Diana, I feel the same, especially when traveling to countries where there's a high poverty level, I realize how blessed I am and my children. I'm not rich but I have so much more than millions of people in this world, that don't have the simple basic, peace, food, water, access to health care. After my ruptured aneurysm I just live one day at a time, without major planes for the future because I know first hand life changes in a second.
Happy 2019!

Happy New Year!

BJ, I'm so sorry about your dad. I hope things improve soon.

Looking back at 2018, my depression really kicked my ass. I slept, cut myself off from everyone in real life and online. My goal for this year is to minimise snap judgments I make of others, go to the doctors more often, look for a new place to live and say yes when I'm invited to things. And to stop listening/reading stuff on serial killers (weird fascination) as it puts me in a bad mood ;)

Chica said...

Wishing everyone here a very Happy New Year!

Diana said...

RS, seems like there are quite some of us who have had a difficult 2018. Hope things are really getting better this year.

I also hope your dad is going to be okay soon, BJ.

Mary Poppins returns is the first movie in 2019 I want to see. I hope I will as long as it´s in the cinema! What´s everyone´s first movie this year?

Real Sal said...

Thanks Diana :)

I saw Mary Poppins on Sunday and I loved it. The songs weren't that catchy but the movie itself felt magical.

Hagen said...

Happy and Healthy New Year!

What´s everyone´s first movie this year?
Probably "Colette".
And then there are three movies I'm looking forward to: "Velvet Buzzsaw", "The Sisters Brothers" and "Wildlife". :-)

UltraViolet said...

BJ, I am so sorry to hear about your father. Sending all best wishes to him and you and your family. That is so hard.

Sal, depression can kick anyone's ass. It sounds like you have a plan to defeat it. OR at least deal with it. I love your credo of saying yes. A friend of mine taught me that. I am a naysayer at heart but I aim to try to be more open to things. We're always here for an ear - remember that!

Paula and Diana, we all need to be more thankful for what we have. And to remember how bad others have it. It's a good reminder for the new year.

On a lighter note: I still haven't seen Mary Poppins - not sure if I will see it in the theater. I did see Colette and really liked it. Hagen, you have so much Jake to see in 2019. But you left Spider-man off the list :)

HNY, Chica!

Diana said...

Colette is on my list, as well!

Just read: Velvet Buzzsaw will be online on Netflix from Feb. 1st! Just checked, it´s on the list for new movies on German Netflix, too!

Seems like this is going to be the first of Jake´s movies I´m going to be able to watch this year.

Some people are surprised, though, that there´s still no trailer out. I´ve read Netflix usually put out a trailer about 2 months prior. Some doubt Feb 1st is going to be the final release.

UltraViolet said...

It does seem odd that there's no trailer. On the other hand, it would be fun to get a new Jake movie so soon! Not a lot of time for promotion, however.

"Velvet Buzzsaw" will premiere at Sundance on January 27th.
Synopsis: In the cutthroat world of fine-art trading and representation, up-and-coming agent Josephina (Zawe Ashton) stumbles across a secret weapon: hundreds of dazzling paintings left behind after an elderly tenant in her building dies. Ignoring the instructions the clandestine artist left to destroy his work, she promptly starts circulating the paintings, which soon attract the attention of the heavy hitters around her—including her boss Rhodora (Rene Russo), art critic (and Josephina’s sometime lover) Morf (Jake Gyllenhaal), and competing collectors, managers, and curators like Bryson (Billy Magnussen) and Gretchen (Toni Collette). Yet as the deceased artist’s portraits gain posthumous acclaim, they also awaken something imperceptible and sinister that threatens to punish those who have profited from his work.

Master of suspense Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) has assembled an all-star cast for this dark, uproarious, and painfully accurate spoof of the art world. With strong supporting turns by John Malkovich, Daveed Diggs, and Natalia Dyer, Velvet Buzzsaw invites us into a traditionally insular world that’s suddenly splattered wide open, where art and commerce collide with dire consequences.

So much news to catch up on!!! Hope everyone is being gentle with themselves at the start of the New Year. I was so disappointed that I missed Sisters Brothers and Wildlife in the theaters. They were only here a week and gone in the blink of an eye. Colette was around a little longer, but I missed that too.

Blue Jean I hope your father is doing better.

Diane your New Year's Day post brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful thoughts.

I had a chance to go to California for about a week over the holidays to meet my new great-nephew, Jimmy. He's adorable, but very colicky and cries non stop. His poor parents are exhausted. I told them that by the time he reaches 4 months things will greatly improve. (I hope!)

Paula, Monica, Chica, so good to "see" you!

Sal, I'm going to have to wait to see Mary Poppins. : )

Was it just me, or were the Golden Globes kind of boring this year? So far I've seen A Star is Born,Beale Street, Green Book,Vice, Black Panther,The Favourite, and Can You Ever Forgive Me. I have no idea who will win, but I've decided to make my list according to who I won't be upset with. LOL! So here are the ones I won't be upset with if they win:

Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Mahershala Ali, Richard E. Grant, Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, Rachel Weiss, Regina King, and most particularly Melissa McCarthy. I can narrow it down even more, but I won't. And there are a few I haven't seen yet. BAFTAs were no surprise and I doubt the Oscar nominations will be surprising either. It seems kind of blah when Jake isn't involved. : )

UltraViolet said...

Happy New Year, Bobbyanna :)

I'd be okay with most of your list except Christian Bale. Vice felt like a Saturday Night Live skit that went on way too long, Bale included.

Have a little Velvet Buzzsaw to start your day. I would love it if they show it in some theaters, because the images look great. Though I'm not a horror/gore fan.

Monica said...

I'm sorry for your loss, BJ.

I don't know what to think of the trailer, I liked the first part, but when it became horror, I did not feel it.

Hello, bobbyana!

Monica said...

Sorry for the double post.

Bobbyana, I saw A Star is Born, the film is good but overrated, however I loved the performances of Bradley and Gaga, in addition to the songs, mainly Shallow. I'm okay with Bradley if he wins best actor.

I saw Wildlife, Jake's role was smaller than I expected, some scenes bothered me, but I loved the performances of Carey and the boy, cinematography. Good start for Paul Dano.

Hagen said...

I'm sorry that your father has passed away, BlueJean.

bobbyanna said...

I kind of "enjoyed" the trailer for Velvet Buzzsaw and even though this type of movie a horror movie is definitely not something I'd ever watch, I will see this one. It seems like it is satirical, and that helps. But I agree PaulaC. I worry it gives too much away, too. : )

Monica, I agree with you. ASIB was "good, but overrated." I thought Bradley Cooper did an outstanding job. IMO, I thought Gaga was very good, but not on Bradley Cooper's level.

UV, I LOL! at your description of Vice as an SNL skit! YES!!!!! Very apt description. But Christian Bale was the only reason I got through it. LOL! I felt like Amy Adams has played a version of that character before, and I felt like the voice over was particularly unnecessary and annoying.

I tried to watch Roma the other night, but fell asleep ten minutes in. I want to urge everyone to try to see Can You Ever Forgive Me? at some point. It will end up streaming on Amazon or Netflix eventually, or on cable, but it is worth it. Melissa McCarthy did an extraordinary job. Truly. And why they put Richard E. Grant in the Supporting Category is mystifying to me. He was a lead and he was brilliant.

I felt the same way with Mahershala Ali. He was brilliant in a film that was very problematic.I love Viggo Mortensen too much to criticize him, but I had a lot of problems with his interpretation of an Italian nightclub bouncer. I felt he was miscast.

I was at the office when the trailer dropped and couldn´t watch Tom Holland´s live posting. It was a fun experience to have him live-post it (even though the audio was delayed) and Jake and Zendaya texted, too. I loved watching it, even if it was three hours later.

I love the Spidey movies and can´t wait for this one, now even more because Jake is in it! I´ve got the comic that Jake held in his instagram post and I am curious to see how different Jake´s Mysterio is from the comic.

I´ve just watched Jake´s appearance at Steven Colbert´s The Late Show and it felt so good to see something positive these days, I had a few giggles!

Here are the links to the two clips on The Late Show´s youtube channel:

clip no. 1
clip no. 2

And this was on The Late Show´s insta story:

Jake and Steven during a commercial break

He looked good on the way out:
Jake leaving the studio

Since it´s right outside the studio I think it´s okay to post.... I´ve recognised that I am thinking more and more about what photos and stories to share/retweet etc.

I´ve always been a little suspicious when it comes to the press in general and also "fans" due to some negative experiences when I was pretty young and I have to say that twitter, facebook and instagram worry me sometimes. It´s easy to quickly repost or like a posting without even trying to do some research on the topic and there are so many untrue stories out there...

Thanks for posting the clips, Diana! They cheered me up!

Everyone who says Jake takes himself too seriously should watch those clips. He's still such a dork - in a positive way. And was this the first time he talked about his little brother? Sweet. I don't think he ever mentioned him publicly before.

Am I the only one who gets Prince Dastan-flashbacks from Jake's Mysterio outfit? ;) Maybe I should re-watch PoP soon.

Yes, thanks, Diana! Glad they made you smile, BJ.
From last week, but news on the Spider-man trailer:

This week’s online release of a teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home was an off-the-wall sensation for Sony’s Columbia Pictures racking up 130 million views in its first 24 frenetic hours.

The massive response made Tuesday’s trailer debut the biggest digital launch in the history of Sony Pictures, topping the mark set by Spider-Man: Homecoming (116 million views in 24 hours). That July 2017 release went on to gross $334.2 million domestically and $880.1 million worldwide.

Odd question but, does anyone got or know where to get the full footage of Constellations and/or any other plays he's done? I've been looking online but, got nothing...
Thanks in advance!

Monica said...

I didnt see anything online, anon. It's hard to find plays online, I think I've only seen two until today. It's risky to film a play.

Diana said...

Some plays and musicals are filmed for the New York Public Library, as far as I remember. I just don´t know when and how to get access to that, I haven´t looked it up yet.

Sunday in the Park with George has been filmed for the archive, I don´t know about Constellations or any other play Jake has ever been in. I would love to see Little Shop of Horrors, the snippets on youtube are so great!

I have once found Constellations on the internet, it´s been illegally recorded and put online. I could watch it but it was taken off the internet some time after, I couldn´t find it again.

Anonymous said...

Thank you, Monica and Diana! I thought perhaps there was a "professional" recording, like the ones you see on youtube, and since I'm not from the states, wanted to see the plays...

Diana said...

Anon, I am too busy with our new house atm but I have planned to look up the New York Public Library and how to get access to it, I could imagine a membership is necessary for that. Then it just depends whether the plays you are interested in have been filmed for the library or not. I have once heard that recorded performances can be watched online, too, but I am not sure. It would be great, since I am in Europe and that would be my only chance to see some footage.

Maybe someone else has an idea about a official archive?

Canuck_Cutie said...

The NYPL filmed Constellations for their Theatre on Film and Tape Archive. The Archive is available to theatre professionals, students, or researchers with work or study-related reasons for viewing. The archive also has filmed copies of both Sunday in the Park with George and if There is I haven't found it yet.

I just searched Jake's name in the NYPL catalogue to see what came up and all 3 plays are listed.

I know Netflix has started to get in the business of airing broadway plays - they did Springsteen and they are broadcasting Kerry Washington's upcoming play so that may be one place to see a future Jake play.

Anonymous said...

So, there's no way to access them online, right? I'm from Europe and would love to see them! I've seen a couple of plays on Youtube, and some snippets of his plays but, nothing full... Thanks for the info, though!

Thanks for posting, Hagen. VB sounds like fun. And out looks like they are having fun promoting it.

And thanks for posting the play recordings info, Canuck_Cutie. It's very frustrating that there isn't broad access to these recordings. I wish Broadway would come along into the information age with the rest of us.

Diana said...

I do understand that the play recordings are not accessible as long as the play runs (at least during the first run), but the recordings should be made accessible after a certain amount of time.

I´m collecting bits and pieces from Sundance and the premiere at L.A., I have no idea, though, when I´m going to have the time to post them!

Here is a collection of thoughts on Velvet Buzzsaw from critics:

Maybe it's a copyright thing? I've accepted the fact that I'll probably never see Jake live on Broadway. I have a Constellations DVD, but the quality is poor (fan filmed).

"Sigh"

Sigh indeed. Jake, Jake, Jake *shakes head* If true - it's always disappointing to read something like that.

Hagen said...

Dan Gilroy mispronounced 'melancholy', Jake corrected him. LOL

Monica said...

I know it's a joke, but it makes me uncomfortable to see someone correct someone else's grammar in public. It's just me.

Anonymous said...

How is it possible to *not* understand that Jake was joking with both the grammar correction and "not the first time today"? It's Jake specific brand of humour, any fan should recognize it. Dan Gilroy and Renee Russo recognized it. Renee was joking, Dan himself was joking, everybody else laughed because... it was a joke made in good faith.
The press is exaggerating the bit because it's fun clickbait.

Hagen said...

Netflix granted me another month for free, so I'm well prepared for this weekend. :-)
I was sophisticatedly bored when I watched "Roma". "Velvet Buzzsaw" is probably less sophisticated, but also less boring.
(Speaking of Oscar nominated films, I think that "The Favourite" is way more entertaining than "Roma". It will sweep the BAFTAs, but for whatever reason its chances of winning "Best Picture" at the Oscars are rather low.)

UltraViolet said...

Monica, this is all clearly a joke. If Jake had done it maliciously or with actual irritation, that would be different. For me. I just think it has been misinterpreted by others trying to make a thing.

Jake will pay for it, because the man has been known to mispronounce a word in his day. (Sibilant, anyone?)

When that pile-on comes, it will be as silly as this whole thing. But I don't really mind, because it's led to some funny tweets.

Hagen, I really agree on Roma. I just did not get into it. Hoping to see VB at an actual theater, as well as at home.

UltraViolet said...

Also, that pronunciation is insane. It would be hard not to correct it, just to help the poor man!

Monica said...

I know it's a joke, I just felt uncomfortable watching.

Anonymous said...

I think Dan Gilroy meant to mispronounce the word. The guy is a writer. Pretty sure he knows how to pronounce the word melancholy. I think it's an in-joke between Jake, Dan and Rene.

I've watched Velvet buzzsaw yesterday, I liked it but didn't love it, not the kind of movie I will see twice. Perhaps my expectations were too high,Jake's performance however was perfect, all the little details of his character, the walk, the hands, the face expressions were delightful to watch, but the movie itself needed something more in my opinion.
Hagen and UV, I've had the same reaction to Roma, kind of, so that was it? It is beautiful shot, but boring and the end was really disappointing. I've seen bird box as well and didn't get all the buzz surrounding the movie, it's very average. Maybe I'm getting too demanding :)

UltraViolet said...

Thanks for the report, Paula. Seems to be the consensus that the movie could have been better but that Jake is great. I’m on my way to see it at the theater. Hope the crowd reaction is fun. Then I’m seeing Jake’s play tonight. Fingers crossed.

I did a search for play reactions last night but found only one. It was positive. Lots of nice reports about Jake meeting folks after the play.

Diana I loved that exchange with the critic. Very fun.

UltraViolet said...

I had a great time at VB. I guess my expectations were lowered with so many negative reactions. And I was afraid Jake wouldn't be in it enough. Of course, we always want more,. But this wasn't like Wildlife or TSB. I loved all the LA real estate and fashions and aerial shots. It's not an Oscar movie, but does everything have to be?

From twitter yesterday:

Piya Sinha-Roy senior writer at EW
Saw #VelvetBuzzsaw on Monday night, still keeps popping into my head at odd moments, it’s so wonderfully bizarre and creepy. And also just hoping @NetflixFilm will make me a gif of Jake Gyllenhaal yelling “I AM NOT YOUR MOUTHPIECE” for my daily usage.

And about the play:

Today before our first dress rehearsal Mr. Gyllenhaal walked around the theatre burning an ENTIRE bunch of sage then almost bumped into me and we shared a laugh lol what is my life/Also today Jake said "How do college freshman die from the cold? Like, how does that happen??" while on his phone in rehearsal

UMMMMM that was really amazing. Both Gyllenhaal and Sturridge killed their monologues so hard. Ashamed to say though that I wasn’t really familiar with Sturridge before tonight but I am now a STAN.

Not that this will help, especially folks like Lainey, who used this to further her belief that Jake is a dick: 'Velvet Buzzsaw' director Dan Gilroy explains the inside joke behind Jake Gyllenhaal's viral 'melancholy' moment

Of course, we all knew it had to be something like this, since we follow Jake so closely. But it boggles the mind that entertainment reporters, who should know Jake better than Joe Schmoe, couldn't see what was going on. Or they just decided to use it for clicks. But we know how these things get lumped into Jake canon.

Ah, well, at least JG and DG got a kick out of it all.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the info on those tidbits about his play.

That's pretty funny he was burning an entire bunch of sage before the dress rehearsal.

Where did you come across this info? Instagram, Twitter?

BlueJean said...

I have to watch 'Megamind' then ;)

Watched VB yesterday. It wasn't as horror as I'd expected - didn't quite "get it" at first, but once Jake's character realized what was going on, so did I :)

Jake's just so good at these creepy roles! I might watch it again one of these days.

I totally forgot about the play! Hope everyone who will get to see it enjoys it!

Diana said...

I simply don´t have the time to watch VB right now, which really annoys me. We´re moving soon and there is so much to do right now!

I have read that VB does get VERY mixed reviews, from superb to pretty awful. I am really curious now how I am going to respond to it.

You´re going to see Jake´s and Tom´s play, UV? I am jealous! I wish I could but I can´t make the time - nor do I have the money to travel to NY. It´s all in the house!

I wonder if Finest Kind is next for Jake, at least it is according to IMDb. I was surprised that the movie Jake was supposed to do with Denis isn´t on either their pages. I was looking forward to another project involving Denis. Has anyone heard something about that?

UltraViolet said...

Monica, I hope the Dan Gilroy story made you feel better about the melancholy exchange. There were quite a few people who connected it to Megamind so they will be happy to know they got it.

BJ, the grrat thing about VB is that you can watch it again so easily.

It was interesting to see Jake and Tom Sturridge on stage so soon after seeing them onscreen in VB. They both acted their monologues beautifully. I tried to be objective but definitely preferred Jake’s half. They both deal with death (and life) but Tom’s is more of a downer.

Jake is so expressive. And his monologue has a lot of funny lines. If you’re goii g, the better side to be on is the left. I was more to the middle, which was too bad. But Jake is mostly on the left side (if you’re facing the stage). He even ran up the aisle and ran down one of the rows to the other side at one point. Who knows if they will change that or keep it like that every night.

I was worried that I’d miss seeing Jake interacting with other people but he commands the stage on his own. As does Tom and it was nice to hear Jake in a play using his own voice. No accent.

I’ve had my fill of waiting for Jake at the stage door but if things remain the same, folks should give it a try. They seemed to be setting it up as.we were leaving and there were not many people waiting. It’s also not outside. It’s in the lobby.

The last tine I went to the Public, I saw John Carroll Lynch in the audience. I didn’t see anyone famous this time, but I did spy Jake’s mother chatting with Jeanne Cadieu.

All in all, a wonderful day of seeing Jake. A good entertainment reporter could and should write a story about the range Jake is revealing.

UltraViolet said...

I should add that Jake’s monologue also has some sad, touching moments and he delivers them beautifully.

UV, it was so good to read you talk about Jake's play. It felt like I was there seeing it too! I want to see it so much! This is the only time I don't like living in Europe, never going to see Jake in a stage. I'm planning on going on a road trip to the US in July 2020, who knows maybe Jake will have a play then.

Anonymous said...

That's nice you saw Jeanne and Jake's mom talking to each other. They seem to have been together for quite some time now.

Were they sitting next to each other on their own, or did they each come with different people?

Monica said...

It's okay, UV. It's good to know that you liked the play, and still saw Jeanne, she's a pretty girl.

UV, Lainey is bitter with Jake because of an interview, it seems he was rude to her. lmao

I saw Velvet Buzzsaw yesterday, I didn't like it. It looked like an interesting movie at first, but it got lost because Dan did not know how to work the horror stuff, the killings were all predictable, some moments seemed like nothing interesting happened. I think it would have been better if he had focused only on art criticism.

I don't know what to say about Jake's acting yet, not whether it was him or the character. One thing I didn't like was his involvement with the girl, I expected second interest, but he developed feelings for her left me off, also there was no chemistry between them, looked forced. I think it would have been more interesting to see more of his boyfriend because of the final revelation.

Hagen said...

Smog orange is my new favorite color. LOL
Jake has a very rewarding role in "Velvet Buzzsaw" and it's very different from what he's played before. The satire of the art world is funny and Jake has the best lines in the film. The horror part was less interesting, but OK.

BlueJean said...

I agree. The 'art' moments reminded me of 'Nocturnal Animals' sometimes :) I sort of hoped VB would follow that quality path, but unfortunately some of the horror scenes felt very cheap and easy.

I liked the story within the story in "Nocturnal Animals". But I think the art world setting was more compelling in "Velvet Buzzsaw" than in "Nocturnal Animals".

I suppose Villeneuve is currently fully occupied with "Dune". Maybe he will direct "The Son" starring Jake after that?

I´m so sorry the interview wasn´t easy for you to listen to, BJ. I probably should´ve posted the link with a warning!

UV, I thought of transcribing the whole interview which will take me a litte while as we´ve started moving this weekend! I would like to cite parts from it and ask you for your opinion on it and how your responded to specific parts of the play.

Jake seems to come out to take photos and sign autographs after every show, like he did when he performed in SITPWG. There are plenty of postings of happy fans. I love to see that the reactions to the play are overall very positive, I have only read one negative comment so far.

I hope that the monologues will be available as a script soon, I would love to read it. I´ve bought Constellations at the Drama bookshop when I was in New York and was totally blown away by it. I should try and get some more of Nick Payne´s scripts! It´s an interesting idea to put together two monologues from two writers into one show. I also want to know how good they correspond.

Oh, great timing! I hope you like it. Can't wait to hear your review.

Diana, thank you for keeping this post alive! Not sure where everyone else is these days. Of course, I was absent myself. I saw Sea Wall/A Life over the weekend. I was still captivated by Jake's performance. There were some changes from the first weekend: The two actors no longer interact at the end of the performance. The first time I saw it, Tom and Jake sat on a bench and Tom played a few notes on the piano. This time, Tom just appeared on the upper level of the stage and then the lights went down.

The interaction wasn't really necessary, so this ending made more sense.

Jake also looked at/reacted to the audience a bit more. When a line made someone laugh and he could see them, he'd kind of try to find them, as if to say, "Right?" I think he did even say that at one point.

Someone's cell phone went off during Jake's monologue, and the person was sitting in one of the first few rows. Jake just looked at her and said, "It's okay, it's okay," as the audience groaned/laughed. "Just shut it off," he said somewhat gently but with a little edge, too, if that makes sense. Then the thing made another noise as she was trying to turn it off, and he reassured her again that it was okay. I would have been mortified. Eek.

Also, poor Tom Sturridge sounded like he had a cold.

I did not stay for the sage door, but there were more people waiting than the first time I saw it. Still a manageable crowd, though.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

I finally watched "The Sisters Brothers". I wasn't particularly thrilled by the film in the beginning, but it got better and more engaging as it went on. I like Jake's part in it. It's different from his previous roles and a nice addition to his résumé. And obviously he has good chemistry with Riz Ahmed once again. Their bromance is a nice contrast to the cruder Sisters Brothers. The production values are fine, from the score to the cinematography. In the end it becomes almost a 'message movie', but it isn't heavy handed at all.

UV, that's cool that you had the opportunity to watch "Sea Wall/A Life" again! :-)

Yes, it was kind of a relief to see Jake with the stubble again! I also wondered about the reason for the change. I'll write about the last night of the play, which I was lucky enough to attend, in another post.

But first, this twitter thread is a lot of fun. Some great stories. These are the Jake ones I've seen:

what’s the most surreal encounter you’ve had with someone famous? been thinking about this all day... mine was looking up while riding a bucking bronco in Liverpool last year and seeing Hugh Grant looking at me, who then stuck his tongue out and then just shrugged.

Coming across a crowd of ppl outside a building in New York & being swept into a studio audience 30 seconds later where Jake Gyllenhaal was talking about his new film. He smiled at me & I nearly died.

Chatting with Jake Gyllenhaal about almond butter while in the check-out line at Erewhon.

I once toured Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal around a gallery in a hospital I was managing. At one point I looked over Jake’s shoulder (who is btw absolutely the loveliest person) and there was a line of nurses all the way down the hall, as if he was the Pied Piper etc.

With kids in playground on Hampstead Heath. One had a meltdown.. Took him to the gate to calm him down and have a word. Finished my little speech and looked up straight into th face of Jake Gyllenhall grinning back at me.

And this reply brought up the infamous ATX bathroom incident:

Jake Gyllenhaal and I shoulder-checked each other as I was leaving a bathroom he was headed into.

Two things:

1) Jake Gyllenhaal is freakishly handsome in person. It's sort of terrifying.

2) This was at SXSW, and moments before Gyllenhall famously got into a scuffle with another guy in that same bathroom who took a photo of him while he was at the urinal.

BJ, I hope that Demolition will be reconsidered at some point.

Hagen, thanks for the updates. And Diana, there seems to be something happening with Jake always, even if it's quiet here!

He posted an IG story about Running On Empty, which his mother wrote. IHJ has a few photos of him in LA. And he'll be hosting an Edible Schoolyard benefit next week.

Was that the third time you saw the play? Lucky thing. I'm interested to know whether things changed as the run progressed. It also looked as though he changed his outfit towards the end as well as growing out his beard.

It looked like a star studded night with Hugh Jackman attending the last night of the play. I thought I saw Jake's mom in the crowd too. I know this isn't a gossip site but I am curious whether he and Jeanne are still together - did you see her at the play?

I wonder if the film Finest Kind will ever go ahead. It's been in pre-production on IMDB for ages.

Variety: Jake Gyllenhaal to Star in Limited Series ‘Lake Success’ in Development at HBO
Jake Gyllenhaal will star in and executive produce a limited series based on the Gary Shteyngart novel “Lake Success” that is currently in development at HBO, Variety has learned.

Should the project go to series, it would mark Gyllenhaal’s first leading role in a television series. He will executive produce along with Riva Marker through their Nine Stories production banner along with Endeavor Content. Shteyngart will serve as co-writer and co-showrunner on the series along with Tom Spezialy.

In the series, narcissistic, self-deluded and hilariously divorced from the real world hedge fund manager Barry Cohen (Gyllenhaal) flees his family, his past, and the SEC on a cross-country bus ride in search of his college girlfriend and a last chance at romantic redemption. Meanwhile, back in Manhattan, his brilliant wife Seema struggles to raise their autistic son and begins a tragicomic love affair of her own.

I don't know the book, but an HBO miniseries sounds cool to me.

Yaay! I just read about this. Working with HBO is very good news. I have not heard of the book either. Good for Jake!

Jake was (possibly still is) in Paris the past few days for a Cartier party. There were also some distant paparazzi photos of he and Jeanne at the airport in Paris looking like they REALLY did not want to be papped. It doesn't seem as though any gossip sites picked up on it, which I'm sure Jake is happy about.

And just when we were thinking it was so quiet... ;) Always something going on, I guess.

Finally a TV role! And I'm hoping he'll team up with Denis Villeneuve soon - real soon! :)

The Google Translate

Nicknamed "King of jewelers and prince of watchmakers", Cartier has become the emperor of the name dropping . Of course, we could count on the brand's BFF red box: Monica Belluci, more radiant than ever in a white suit, was accompanied by her new 36-year-old jules, artist Nicolas Lefebvre, all dreads out. They were not alone. Sofia Coppola sweet in her pastel organza dress, actress and British model Kaya Scodelario, muse of the Clash film, Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek, but also Tilda Swinton, Haider Ackermann, Farida Khelfa - still stem-, Xavier Dolan, Tahar Rahim and ... the one that all the women of the evening have looked for: Jake Gyllenhaal. Arrived last, a bit like the star he is, accompanied by a pretty and (very) young French model, Jeanne Cadieu (for info, she is 22, he has 38). We stop listing and we let you discover the rest on slide.

Strange that she didn't show up in any of the photos taken from the party... Are we sure she went? And that they're dating? Because the way they behave is very strange and the need to hide her and such is even stranger!

Anonymous said...

They do seem to behave differently to girlfriend's Jake has had in the past. There were plenty of sightings of him and Alyssa. They didn't do red carpets, but he didn't run away when he saw a photographer and was happy to be out in public with her and be affectionate with her.

Any pics of Jake and Jeanne you wouldn't think they had a romantic connection at all. Even those pap pics in Paris they didn't seem affectionate and if you didn't know better could have passed them off as friends.

Catching up:

I am really looking forward to the HBO show. My sister is reading the book and says Shteyngart is a very funny author.

It's always funny how far some people will go to cast doubt on potential Jake girlfriends.

To answer the poster who asks about Jake only in relation to Jeanne: Yes, Jeanne was at the final performance of the play. I did not see Jake's mother or any other family or friends except Hugh Jackman.

Jeanne is apparently in some pictures from the Cartier party, not that the concern trolls will be persuaded by photos.

Other notes from the final Sea Wall/A Life performance:

Tom Sturridge's performance was the angriest I'd seen him. There is a (staged) part of the monologue where the character forgets the word "scrubs" and looks to the audience to recall it. Hugh Jackman was the audience member who shouted it out, lol.

It was easy to hear Hugh's laughter and his audible reactions during both monologues, especially Jake's. He laughed heartily at the parts of Jake's monologue where he riffs on the preparation for labor and then the labor itself.

The biggest relief seeing the last two performances from the first two: They didn't have Jake in that ugly ass sweater and plaid shirt. Just a black or dark gray shirt. Much better. And since I prefer Jake with a little stubble, it was nice to see that return, as well.

Jake seemed to play more of Imagine on the piano at the end, which was nice.

He and Tom shared a long hug after their final performance.

I hope the performance was taped so more people can enjoy Jake's performance. He was so assured and charismatic, moving and funny. Many, many laughs and a lot of sobbing.

Sadly for Jake, Tom was nominated for a Lucille Lortel (Off-Broadway) award and Jake was not. I really don't think it's a reflection of the audience or critical sentiment. All of the non-Jake fans I saw it with preferred Jake's monologue and performance to the Tom Sturridge monologue.

Looks like Jake is also producing a movie starring Mark Wahlberg that starts filming on Monday in Utah.

"Mark Wahlberg, Connie Britton and Reid Miller are set to star in “Monsters and Men” helmer Reinaldo Marcus Green’s drama “Good Joe Bell,” from “Brokeback Mountain” screenwriters Diana Ossana and Larry McMurtry.

Wahlberg will play real-life Oregonian father Joe Bell, who sets out on a walk across the United States with his son, Jadin (Miller). Production is set to start on April 15 in Utah.

Producers on the pic are Daniela Taplin Lundberg of Stay Gold, Riva Marker and Jake Gyllenhaal of Nine Stories, Eva Maria Daniels of Vision Chaos, Cary Fukunaga of Parliament Of Owls, Ryan Ahrens of Argent Pictures, as well as Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson."

I wasn't doubting she is his girlfriend because they are obviously together. I was only saying they give off a different vibe to his past relationships, and it is surprising how few public sightings there are of them.

I just saw that pic of Jeanne talking to Jake and Tom Sturridge at the Cartier party. Apparently it was also her birthday that night too - it looked like a fun party. I didn't see her sitting next to/across from Jake during the dinner though, so she might have been seated elsewhere.

@UltraViolet I'm not a troll but, I haven't seen any photos where she shows up. Mind posting the links to them? Curious to see her dress! ;)

To me, it's always impossible to understand how much effort these people make to "investigate" Jake's love life - as if it's our right to know what's going on. It's not.

His private life is strictly his own business. I just hope he's happy - that's it.

nd Diana, there seems to be something happening with Jake always, even if it's quiet here!

Oh yes, I´m sure there is always something going on, we just don´t know!

A TV SERIES!!!! YES!!!

I have been hoping for this for ages, especially because I´m really curious how Jake develops and "presents" a character when he´s got more time to show than just the average 100+ minutes of a movie!

I´ll have to check the book as soon as they start filming. Just want to make sure this REALLY is going to happen *lol*.

UV, I´m sorry to have to tell you but the beard seems to have gone again, at least according to a photo from yesterday. I hope Jake had a lovely time in Paris with Jeanne and they got to enjoy celebrating her birthday. He looked fab at the Cartier party!

I have also read those funny encounters with celebs people posted about, I always remember the one where a guy stood in front of onions, wondering which ones to buy and Jake recommended shallots!

I´m so caught up with our house that I have no idea what´s next on the "Jake-agenda". I´m lost. As long as I´m not missing any movies coming out or - heaven forbid - miss a show/play/musical he´s planning to do IN LONDON I should be fine.

Hope you´re all doing well and enjoying the start of spring!!!

Apparently there have been some reshoots happening for FFH, so maybe that's the reason the beard came and went so quickly. I know Zendaya definitely had to revisit her character but I'm not 100% sure about Jake.

Jake earned a Drama League Awards nomination for Sea Wall/A Life (this time Jake was nominated and Tom Sturridge wasn't) for Distinguished Performance.
Drama League is for both Broadway and Off-Broadway productions hence the bigger number of nominees. The interesting part about it is the performance award can only be won once in a lifetime (Oscars should take notice.)
Also nominated Carey Mulligan (who lost the Lucille Lortel nod, too) and Ruth Wilson. Nothing for Paul Dano:(
It is Jake's 3rd Drama League nomination. He has a Lucille Lortel nod for If There Is.

I was happy to see that, Hagen!

Speaking of... This is a surprise. I had seen somewhere that they might do it in London, so I thought that was what Jake was alluding to in his IG post. But I guess it was this.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge are bringing to Broadway a pair of moving monologues about fatherhood, loss and resilience.

Fresh off a sold-out run Off Broadway at the Public Theater, the actors announced Thursday that they would remount the doubleheader this summer at the Hudson Theater. The plays, billed jointly as “Sea Wall/A Life” and directed by Carrie Cracknell, are scheduled to begin performances July 26, to open Aug. 8, and to close Sept. 29.

And yes, one of my first thoughts was how sad it will be when Tom S is nominated for a Tony.

Diana, I don't usually care about Jake's facial hair. My preference is a little stubble, but I realize that has little influence over Jake's choices! For some reason, in this play, the clean-shavenness was jarring.

I saw another thing about FFH reshoots, so perhaps that is why Jake was in LA, but who knows?

Fun internet fact of the day: American actor Jake Gyllenhaal is 14000 days old today. http://dayKount.com/e/5726/ Metric #birthday

There is a twitter account and a website.

I look forward to going to the Hudson again - it's a great theater. But it is a hard play to sit through multiple times. I look forward to Jake doing something different on stage. But I'll never complain about getting the chance to see him onstage.

I had the same thought UV, but "fortunately" this Broadway run of SW/A Life takes place during off-season. Right between the current season (that ends a few weeks after the Tonys) and next season (starting late September). Summer shows aren't taken into Tony consideration. Voters pay attention mostly to February-April shows (the opening date for Burn This? right on time!). The only ones they "remember" from, say, October are big musicals or zeitgeist shows.

The way I see it, after the crazy promo tour for Spiderman and before "Rio", Jake's filling up his summer hiatus with a bit more theater on a stage he loves. A new play would've required more time and rehearsals. Maybe hopefully next year, and maybe hopefully a musical.

Anonymous said...

I'm not a marvel/DC/superhero fan at all so I don't really know what sort of promo Jake will be involved in with Spider-Man. Does anyone have an idea how long he will be promoting it for and what kind of stuff he will be doing?

Feeling a bit melancholic today....

Throwback to April 23rd 2017:

first preview

Finishing the Hat

How much I miss it.... nothing I´ve seen ever since has made me feel like this musical did. Whenever I hear a snippet of a song it makes me heart overflow with emotions.

It´s two years today that Sunday in the Park with George closed at the Hudson theater. On a sunday. Two years!!

In celebration of our 50th anniversary, @jakegyllenhaal shares a special message:

“Left to our own devices, the film industry would spend all of our time obsessing over the future of our medium. The Film Society of Lincoln Center serves as a vital force that reminds us of the bigger picture and the artistic giants on whose shoulders we stand. They're the voice telling us, "Calm down, folks. You think the internet is a big change? Imagine going from silent films to talkies. Or black and white to color. Film is meant to chronicle major changes, not fight them."

Join Gyllenhaal and more special guests at our 50th Anniversary Gala this Monday!
$50 & $100 tickets just released. Reserve your seats at filmlinc.org/gala

This is from the Filn Society Lincoln Center website, posted back in march:

The Film Society of Lincoln Center is pleased to announce Darren Aronofsky, Jake Gyllenhaal, Dee Rees, and Martin Scorsese as added special guest speakers for the 50th Anniversary Gala on Monday, April 29, 2019 in Alice Tully Hall. They will join previously announced guests Pedro Almodóvar, Marielle Heller, Tilda Swinton, and John Waters at the gala honoring the organization’s legendary past and vibrant present, and looking ahead as it extends its commitment to the film community.

The participants each have a special connection to the Film Society’s history: Darren Aronofsky’s feature debut Pi (1998) was selected for the 27th New Directors/New Films, and The Wrestler (2008) was Closing Night of the 46th New York Film Festival; Jake Gyllenhaal’s film Wildlife, which he starred in and produced through his production company Nine Stories, premiered at last year’s New York Film Festival; Dee Rees’s feature debut, Pariah (2011), was selected for the 40th edition of New Directors/New Films, and her follow-up, Mudbound (2017), screened at the 55th New York Film Festival; and Martin Scorsese has had seven films screen in the New York Film Festival beginning with Mean Streets in 1973, and he was the recipient of the Chaplin Award in 1998 and a guest speaker in the organization’s first education program.

The 50th Anniversary Gala will tell the story of the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s semi-centennial, reflecting and building upon the organization’s half-century introducing New York audiences to many of the industry’s most acclaimed and important filmmakers. The special guest speakers will present this history alongside a collection of interviews and archival footage, photographs, and film clips that will reflect upon the organization and its role in New York City film culture. In honoring the past, the evening will celebrate a film community that is helping to shape the future of our art form.

The Gala is the most important fundraising event of the Film Society’s landmark anniversary year, and all proceeds will benefit the organization in its mission to support the art and craft of cinema.

I just thought it would be nice to have all the info about this event in one post!
