Spring Awakening

We are apparently on a quarterly posting schedule here at GB! News about a Leonard Bernstein movie biography, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, indicated it is time for a new post, mixing some recent photos among the latest news.

Bernstein lived a fascinating life, and I look forward to seeing Jake and CJF interpret it. This Bernstein bio tops a very long slate of projects to which Jake is attached:

There are a couple on there that could drop off and I'd be fine. But if he does them all, he'll be busy for years.

Jake has been in Los Angeles filming Dan Gilroy's latest film. That seems to have wrapped, going by IG photos. Next we wait to see if Jake goes to Cannes for the screening of Wildlife on May 9.

Almost forgot Jake's Cartier appearances.

The short video ad:

And a brief interview:

Looks like Velvet Buzzsaw is now coming out next year

JG spotted on Hydra, Greece with girlfriend (see video on IG @courtslourandoll)

Anonymous said...

Wonder if he's on vacation or is Spider Man being filmed there? Anyways, jealous. Greece is beautiful.

Anonymous said...

I think he's on vacation as they're still shooting in the UK.

Anonymous said...

Maybe he wrapped his scenes for Spiderman 2, he's been in London for 6 weeks.

Or he has a few days off from filming and felt like visiting a more summery city. It rained last week in London, Greece seems warm and breezy.

Anonymous said...

He was here last week as someone spotted him at the Walseley on Friday. This week the weather is crappy too. :/

Anonymous said...

I just stumbled across this on Instagram. Does have a lot of followers...thoughts on if it's legit?

Rebecca said...

So there was an ig account found of the woman who was in the Greece video but they weren’t with Jake. In her ig you can see there is a guy that could pass for a lookalike (not for us fans lol) but for other people. She doesn’t want me to give out her ig but if you search the city name you can find it. I thought the video was odd because Jake is working and there was something not quite right about it. This woman on ig says she never heard Jake was on the island and she lives there and in London part of the time.

It's Jake in the video for sure. The way he walks and how he hunches his shoulders, his posture is unmistakable. There's another Greece photo with him and possibly the same woman swimming: https://twitter.com/jakeisbaetho/status/1028738329293008897.

Rebecca said...

I can appreciate people looking at his walk but there are many other things to consider as well. I know the swimming photo but the people that posted that were also talking about being “dilated” for Jake meaning something sexual. If that is Jake you don’t know when it was taken, it’s a bean head. But aside from that I saw this woman in Hydra who was her, she was wearing the same color top in her post and she looks like the woman also and I saw the lookalike. She is an artist and actress there and in London, she was going into the different shops because some of her art was being shown and sold in those shops. Anyway I am just sharing what I know, I understand everyone has their opinions. I wish I could post the photos but this lady doesn’t want to be bothered by Jake fans. Maybe after some time I can post it and no one will know care enough to contact her. Anyways, goodnight all!

Anonymous said...

So funny how people will say anything in order to "prove" Jake wasn't with a woman. It's almost certainly Jake despite the mystery photos from the mystery instagrammer who doesn't want to be named. What kind of artist/actress doesn't want to be known? What's the city name?

Anonymous said...

No idea what "“dilated” for Jake" is supposed to mean but it was hella funny.

All due respect to Rebecca, it's Jake in the IG video. One can recognize his back and tendency to slouch. Why wouldn't he take a vacation if he had some free time? Spider Man cast is huge and shooting ends in December. And yes, he's with a woman in both photos. That's all, folks!

Thanks to its critical success "Wildlife" will be released in some European countries (IMDb), for example in the UK: Kaleidoscope, the home entertainment specialist, nabbed Jake Gyllenhaal-Carey Mulligan Cannes critical hit Wildlife from FilmNation earlier this year. The company is due to release it on 100 screens this fall after its London Film Festival bow (Deadline).

In Germany the film will open on April 11th, 2019 (Filmstarts). Are they for real?
Well, better late than never.

I can appreciate people believing they know characteristics about Jake to the degree of a slouch he may have at one point to the slouch of another man. I’ve only been on this site a short time and don’t mean to upset anyone, I did a simple search for Hydra Island in Greece and the photographs can be found. I would like to say as someone who isn’t a diehard Jake fan (sorry, I just discovered his great work recently) that I understand not wanting fans to know you or your significant other. While everyone seems nice here most of the time I have definitely seen in this fandom a chance for people to go rogue! Lol She is just a local artist, not anyone looking for huge fame. I am not sure if it was referring to me about making up anything about Jake being with a woman or to show that he isn’t. That isn’t the case because firstly it’s not a big deal to me and secondly of course he is with women! Lol But if anyone wants to take the time to do a search of what I said I wish you luck!

But for a different topic, I am ready for all these new movies to come out! I haven’t seen all of his movies, I was told I have to watch Donnie Darko next that it is a classic. Any recommendations? I just saw Love and Ofher Drugs and he was such a hottie in that!

BlueJean said...

Why are people so interested in Jake's whereabouts during his holiday? Let him be!

Watch Enemy, Rebecca. And Brokeback. And Demolition. And Prisoners. And End of Watch :)

Diana said...

Hey Rebecca,

depends on what you´re interested in? I am always fascinated to see the evolution in someone´s work, so if I could go back I´d start with October Sky, then Donnie Darko, Moonlight Mile, Brokeback, Proof, Zodiac, Brothers, Source Code (one of my favorites), and so on.

I still haven´t watched all of his work, but will get there at some point.

Hagen, I am relieved that Wildlife does get a theatrical release in Germany at all, but I am not happy about the late date, as well. Again!

I am surprised that there are no more release dates for The Sisters Brothers, just France and US. Promotion on that should start soon. I am REALLY excited about this movie! Has anyone read the novel yet? Is it worth buying? Not because of the movie but generally. Right now I am reading the Lost Airman and I had to put it aside a while ago, it really is horrible to read at times and really gets to me. I love biographies, some are hard to read, though, and this is defo one of them. The things humans are capable of doing.... just plain horrible.

Anonymous said...

Rebecca, I do love Jarhead and, despite what others might say, Prince of Persia :)

Hagen said...

Jake plays a detective in the "Sisters Brothers":

The brothers encounter myriad complications on their eventful ride down to San Francisco and through the Sierra Nevada: witches, bears, a madam who owns a town and commands a murderous army of fur trappers, and a detective (Jake Gyllenhaal) tracking the same peculiar man they are (TIFF).

Hagen said...

"The Sisters Brothers" will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday, September 2nd (schedule).

BlueJean said...

Rebecca, I forgot 'Brothers'. Not 'The Sisters Brothers' - just 'Brothers' (2009) :)

Young Jake

Hagen said...

Rebecca, since you liked "Love and Other Drugs" I would suggest you to watch "Source Code" next, if you haven't seen it yet. It's a good science-fiction movie from the same era as LAOD.

Diana said...

I´ve read that Jake is supposed to go to Ellen in October. I´ve tried to find out more but I find it extremely difficult to find a list of upcoming guests for all the shows - especially when it´s more than one week in advance. Does anyone of you know more?

Jarhead was on German tv last saturday, I missed that....

Rebecca said...

Thanks for all the suggestions! I watched Donnie Darko and I liked it very much but I don’t exactly get it haha I mean I do but then I don’t. Was it what could have happened??

I have so many of the movies to watch, I think I will do Source Code next Hagen!

Maura said...

Do we know if 'The American' is still happening?

Anonymous said...

At a pub in London with Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Diana said...

Maura, I trying to keep an eye on that one and so far I haven´t heard otherwise. It´s still on imdb, but that doesn´t mean anything.

Rebecca, I´m curious, will you please tell me what you think of Source Code? It´s one of my favorites!

I hope everyone has a good start into the new week. Venice film festival and TIFF are not far away now! It feels as if the year is almost over! Scary!

UltraViolet said...

Diana, it would be unusual for Ellen to have an October schedule. Where did you see that Jake will be on Ellen then? It lines up with the Wildlife release, so it could be correct.

And yes, festival season about to begin. I will try to get a new post up this week so we can follow everything in a new post.

Rebecca, there are endless questions about Donnie Darko and endless explanations. I hope you like Source Code. I watched that again recently and remembered how much I love it.

Maura, I don't think anyone knows what's going on with The American.

>>Rebecca, I forgot 'Brothers'. Not 'The Sisters Brothers' - just 'Brothers' (2009) :)<<

BJ, Jake will have to do a movie named just "Sisters" to complete the circle!

Thanks to all for all the updates, especially Hagen :)

UV, I wish I would remember where I read it, must have been somewhere on social media, but I can´t tell! It´s been a comment on a fan´s posting.

I have discovered a podcast last weekend which I think is very interesting, it´s called "Write on". This is the podcast with John Pollono:

Write on with Strongers John Pollono

Maybe some of you already know it, it was new to me and interesting to get some more info on how it all began and how long it took to get to be made into a movie.

I have also listened to the interview with Bryan Sipe which was mainly about Demolition, just as interesting.

Diana said...

Oh I wish I could edit my writing *lol* Sorry for the weird writing...

I have just checked the imdb page for Spiderman, interestingly Donald Mowat is now listed as "make up artist for Mr Gyllenhaal" and there are also two stunt-doubles listed as "stunt double: Jake Gyllenhaal".

Did you guys see the image of the girl from the young vic and Greece in the I heart Jake magazine scans?

I don't know how to hyperlink but here is the link

Waiting for the debunkers, lol. This place always becomes a hoot when Jake has a new lady in his life.

If true, she's very pretty and very young.

^she's just turned 22, according to Google.

GQ published an excerpt from the interview online:

And so Jacques Audiard called you?
I ended up getting a phone call, yes. As soon as I knew he was working on the film adaptation of the book "The Sisters Brothers", I sent him an email. We did not really know each other but I managed to get my hands on his address and I wrote to him: "I love this book. I would love to work with you. If there is any role to play in your film, I hope you will think of me. He never answered.

Oh no!
At the time, I thought I must have bothered him. Then I saw him at a luncheon in Los Angeles a year later. It was a normal lunch and he didn't talk about the movie. It was only a year and a half after that I received a proposal for a role.

BlueJean said...

Isn't it strange? When we talk about Jake's private (love) life, the majority of the people who post on that subject are anons. Just stating a fact :) I don't know how you guys do it, finding those details - and frankly I don't care.

"This place always becomes a hoot when Jake has a new lady in his life."

Come on. Let him be. He's entitled to a private life, just like anyone else.

I know I should probably ignore all this speculation, but somehow I had to get this off my chest. Sorry.

BlueJean said...

Aaaaaaaaaand back to Jake's professional life :) Thanks for your post, Hagen.

BJ, by saying 'a hoot', I meant it gets amusing around here (just the same as you saying about the anons, like me)...I completely agree with you regarding his private life.

Thanks Hagen for the GQ bit.

Venice Film Festival soon! Hoping Jake gets time off from filming to attend.

BlueJean said...

I thought you meant "amusing" in a sarcastic way, anon ;) I'm glad we agree on things.

Yes, please, back to business!!!

I had a quick look through the schedule for Venice.

It says "press/industry" Sala Darsena on Sept. 2nd, 8.30 a.m.
Another "press/industry" at 11.30 a.m. at Sala Grande
First public screening at Sala Grande at 7.30 p.m.
Public screening at PalaBiennale at 8.30 p.m.

I have to go to bed, so that´s it for now. You can download the whole schedule here:
Biennale 2018 programm

I read that neither Jake or Joaquin will attend Venice due to work Schedule, but I don't know if the info is right, Jake sure is close and could attend just to make us happy!

I haven't read "The Sisters Brothers", but Jake seems to have a very small role in the movie. Recently I read a synopsis of the book in which Jake's part, the detective, wasn't even mentioned. I think it would be understandable if Jake doesnt't give much effort to promote the film.

Diana said...

Paula, I have no idea. We´ll see. No doubt it would boost everyone´s interest if they were present.

Hagen, have you translated the passages from the GQ magazine? iheartjake seems to have uploaded the whole print, if anyone could point out where to find a translation I´d be grateful! Thanx!

I agree with you on one hand, on the other he repeatedly said that Jacques Audiard is one of his favorite filmmakers, so maybe he will want to be there because of this? It´s only a few more days, then we´ll know.

Did I ever mention that patience is not (always) my top quality...?

Anonymous said...

maybe the movie role is different from the book? Maybe a bigger part?

BlueJean said...

I'm quite sure Jake's initial role in TSB was Hermann Kermit Warm, but that role is now played by Riz Ahmed, according to IMDb. Hm. I don't even remember there was a detective in the book. There probably was, but the fact he doesn't even seem to have a name (yet) might prove that it's indeed a very small role. That's a shame.

Thanks a lot for the translation!
UV, you have some wonderful assistants:)
Hagen I never read a book that I know I will see in a movie because I usally get dissapointed with the film after reading the book.
Just a few more days and we will see if Jake will be in Venice, I don´t think it depends on the role he plays because in wildlife it's also a small role and he made is presence in sundance, so lets just cross fingers and also we are expecting a new post based on that, lol

Diana said...

That´s indeed brilliant, thanx Hagen! It says "insert text or web address " when you google "google translate". I should´ve taken a better look every time I used it!

That´s going to make it soooooo much easier....

Chica said...

Thanks Hagen for the translation!! His part in the The Sisters Brothers does appear to be small. I wonder how much promotion he will do for the movie.

Diana said...

I have started to read TSB yesterday. I know the movie will be different in parts but I´m curious to see how much it differs from the book.

What do you all think about the interview in the French GQ when it comes to Spiderman? He answered that one cleverly, but I didn´t expect anything else from him. Still - he didn´t deny it like he did with Batman.

The photos are brilliant. That jumper is.... interesting.
