Master of the Univers(ity)

Loyola Marymount University honored Jake Gyllenhaal today, as one of the Masters of Hollywood, "a new series from LMU School of Film and TV that examines the careers of award-winning filmmakers and successful executives." The conversations are taped but it doesn't look like they will show the whole event. But there are pictures!

Not a great photo, but that last one was too funny not to share.

SAG Awards Southpaw screening Thursday night in L.A.

Lots of onset photos, as well.

And a bit of video. Moviemaking is exciting, isn't it!

Will post more later!

Shame the whole interview isn't available. But I'm sure we'll get a transcript version of it.

As for that paparazzi set video were Amy and Jake actually filming? Seemed to me they were both goofing around for the whole time and getting ready to shoot scenes.

It seemed that way but they really did shoot a scene but it may not be the one that is used, I heard "Cut" in the bit with Jake walking and Amy catching up with him and he takes her bags and they begin to walk and someone says "And Cut".

Yes I have no life.

LOL! Me neither, Scott. Thanks for the new post, UV.

I knew one of us here lives in Dubai, but I couldn't remember who it was... hope you'll get to see Jake, Malavika! Have fun!

UltraViolet said...

LOL, Scott. I watched it all the way to the end, as well. No life here, either!

From Page Six:

On Friday, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kerry Washington and Gus Van Sant hosted an oversubscribed “Beasts” screening in LA, and Sally Field, Ben Affleck, Elizabeth Banks, John Legend and Sting have all hosted screenings of the Netflix film.

Some tweets/posts from the past few days:

I woke up at 6:25am this morning to wait in line to see Jake Gyllenhaal at our schools theatre and let me tell you it was 100% worth waiting 5 hours to barely make it into the packed theater of 250 people ✔️ the man is not only incredibly talented but also very insightful and funny; I never wanted it to end 😍 (also he's ridiculously handsome) thank you for validating artists and their work and reminding us we are all #blessed 🙏 #jakegyllenhaal #hollywoodreporter #hollywoodmasters

Jake Gyllenhaal feels "#blessed" to be an actor. I feel #blessed that I was within 5 feet of him 😍

Just saw Jake Gyllenhaal in person and I cannot even begin to comprehend how attractive he is.

So a little birdy told me that Jake Gyllenhaal and Christopher Nolan have been in talks #WetDreamsAreReal

This is why Jake Gyllenhaal won't be playing Magus in GotG 2: http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2015/11/10/bong-joon-hos-okja-gets-some-help-from-netflix-and-brad-pitts-plan-b

Oh hey the people remaking MEMENTO also have the rights to DONNIE DARKO, in case your day needed more bad news.

No idea if any of the movie stuff is real. I wonder if Jake was offered something on GOTG2 or it's just wishful thinking on the poster's part. Or if it's a joke, since I don't know who/what Magus is.

LOL.

Scott said...

What is GOTG2?

Monica said...

GOTG2 = Guardians of The Galaxy 2

I think Magus is the villain of the next movie.

Anonymous said...

Thank you Monica, Jake would make a great villain but I don't see how he would have time or if he wants it.

Canuck_Cutie said...

Jake was considered once for Nolan's Batman wasn't he? So it might not be too much of a stretch to think Nolan would interested in working with Jake on some other project although he certainly seems to be booked up for the foreseeable future!

Louis Bloom was a villain to me.

Jake looks great at the LMU series - young and very handsome! Hope they post the video soon.
I love the pics of all the girls obviously swooning over him.

Updated the post with video from a SAG Southpaw screening last night, plus some photos.

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal discusses playing boxer Billy Hope in "Southpaw", and helps renew hope in this beautifully acted performance of redemption. #cute #sexy #smile #soul #talent #actor #compassion #love #light #joy #peace #spirit #focus #discipline #emotional #story #of #redemption #picoftheday #southpaw #jakegyllenhaal #friends #brokebackmountain #star #like4like #filmphotography #filmphotocreative #interview

Screening of #Southpaw and Q&A with #JakeGyllenhall, who says that emotions are like wild animals. You have to be quiet or you'll scare them away.

I wasn't going to say this but oh well, I just have the feeling that if Nightcrawler came out this year that Jake's Oscar chances would be a shoe in. It appears this year's Oscar male field is quite living up to expectations.

Very handsome ! that smile with fans, great pictures !!

So today i've convinced a cosuin of mine that Nocturnal Animals is the sequel to Nightcrawler lol.

She found out about this movie today and asked if it was a sequel and I just went along with it. So now she's of the opinion that Jake takes Amy under his wing. I wonder how many people might think it's a sequel? There must be a few out there.

I hope Jake breaks away from Harvey Weinstein next year. All his talk of getting Jake a nomination this year and it doesn't look like it's going to happen, especially now with Creed getting better reviews and a lot of awards talk. I wonder how much more campaigning they'll do for Southpaw.

According to awards watch Nocturnal Animals wrapped filming yesterday. I can't believe how fast that went.

Monica said...

I'm surprised with Creed. The trailer was good, but I didn't expect the talk about Oscar. The film is with 90% on RT, I think it will be a success at the box office.

I never bought it, mainly because of the release date. I think it was just marketing for the film.
Yes, it's better for him to stay away from Harvey.

Harvey's company is struggling with financial problems. They laid off 40 employees this month. He is not the heavyweight he used to be.

UltraViolet said...

I don't get the big fuss over Harvey wrt Jake. He drummed up a bunch of publicity for the movie. Everyone always knew it was a long shot. They are doing screenings and such. Probably nothing will come of it, except maybe a GG nomination. But no one really expected it anyway. It just doesn't bother me one way or another.

No idea where the tweeter works:

So Jake Gyllenhaal came into my job today, he was being so lowkey lmao but a nice guy overall.

And no idea if this is true:

THEY'RE CASTING RIGHT NOW FOR THE NEXT MOVIE JAKE GYLLENHAAL IS GOING TO BE IN KILL ME NOW I WANT AN AUDITION SO BAD OMG

In the SAG Jake talks a bit about the next movie with Antoine. He says they decided the whole first half will be in Spanish, so he has to learn to speak Spanish. He also says it's still in development.

He also says he finished NA the night before (Wednesday), and that he didn't want to watch himself in that movie at all. But that it might have made sense, because he was playing someone who kind of hates himself.

Was a good Q&A. Thankful to the person who posted that. Would love to see the rest.

Hey, has anyone heard from Mary? She hasn't posted in a while. Hope all is well.

So much great news! I m traveling right now and the internet service is spotty, but I m trying to keep up. UV, I agree with you about Harvey/Southpaw. I m in London visiting for Thanksgiving. I will look forward to Jake speaking Spanish. So good to read about him lining up variuos projects, even if I am more enthused about some more than others.

The Rocky franchise has a built in fan base and it's no surprise to me that Oscar talk is happening. It's a great reboot premise and Oscar is not foreign to the Rocky franchise. Having the original Rocky in the movie tugs at the heart strings and Michael B Jordan is a great actor.

The only thing that bugs me is the enviable talk of Southpaw vs Creed and if Jordan get the best male actor nomination, it could be fodder for some Jake haters.

Otherwise, it will be no surprise that Creed does well both critically and financially. I don't think Sly Stallone would let the reboot happen unless the script was excellent. Rocky is his baby.

And as for Weinstein, he did his job of promoting the movie, it made over 90 million world wide. It did better domestically than Fantastic Four, Jobs, Our Brand is Crisis and a lot of other movies.

Hey UV I'm fine still around just don't post much anymore but I do check in to read everyone else's posts:) thanks for the new pics love him without the beard but I suppose he will grow it back now that he is done filming

That's bold for sure. I don't know if he can act in a foreign language that he doesn't speak.

Ann said...

Hagen, I was just thinking about that comment and came here to post about it.

It's an interesting idea but I can't help but wonder if they'll actually be able to do it. Jake mentioned something else in that q&a where producers got involved to stop an idea that he and Antoine had for Southpaw. I wonder if the same thing will happen with this. Creatively it an interesting concept and one I'd like to see. But I don't know how they'll sell it and that's what producers will ultimately be concerned with.

That's a good point. "The Man Who Made It Snow" is said to have a bigger budget than "Southpaw". It's probably too risky to film the first half of the movie in Spanish.

UltraViolet said...

Well, I assume he'd be playing someone who doesn't speak Spanish well? I don't know the story, so I don't know if Max Mermelstein was a fluent speaker.

And yeah, Jake said he wanted to sleep in the house with Rachel and Oona, but the producers stepped in. LOL.

Mary! Thanks for popping in. Glad to know everything is fine!

Stallone on Jake:

From there, Stallone offered up Jake Gyllenhaal to take on the role of his gritty supercop from 1986′s Cobra. Why? Because, “you need a real mental case” for that movie. “He’s got a dark side, he can go there.”

LOL - LA tweeter:

When you're at a coffee shop talking video games and Jake Gyllenhaal walks in (well he was already there but still)...

Was he all "Hey, girl, have you heard of that game Prince of Persia? That's me. I'm him. Can I get you a coffee?"

I would have the most epic awkward moment of word vomit ever.

Lol, UV.

I just saw they announced the Spirit Nominations. I can't believe how insanely fast this year has gone. It feels like just the other day Jake got nominated for Nightcrawler!

I'm fairly sure The Man Who Made It Snow is still tangled in legal issues. Might be in pre-production for a long while...

I feel like Jake is short-selling his range by pursuing all these methody, dramatic roles. Little Shop of Horrors showed he can do comedy (and sing!) Wish he'd pursue other avenues than drama. Oddly enough, these intense, showy roles are becoming sort of predictable for and from him. Maybe his own production shingle will give him these opportunities.

Also love to see him in more ensemble pieces, a la Everest. He'd kick ass in "Big Short"

Thanks UV! Love these pictures and I hope all video of the event pops up! The NA shoot looks like it's done, that was quick!

You think so? They would only be predictable if he'd play the same sort of characters over and over again. But they all have very different personalities.

I finally saw 'Accidental Love' last week. Let me just say that I'd rather see Jake in five intense dramatic roles than in one role that's supposed to be funny, but ultimately isn't.

Happy Thanksgiving!

A member from another forum said he saw Jake and Amy Adams shopping at a grocery store yesterday. Is Jake spending Thanksgiving with Adams and her family? He stayed after the movie's wrap. Perhaps he decided not to go back to NY?

Canuck_Cutie said...

Jake's dad lives in LA with his new wife & son (Jake's half-brother). So perhaps he's staying in LA to have thanksgiving with them?

Anonymous said...

Good to see Jake and Amy became good friends (maybe they've always been friends we just did not know). Do you think Jake suggested Adams to Tom Ford? Can't wait to see their promotion tour for NA.

Gobble gobble!

Hi, Tweety!

Sal, this year did go by fast. And so did this post. New one up.
