When stars align...

good things happen:

Jake Gyllenhaal has booked his Broadway debut in “Constellations,” a project that will reunite him with writer Nick Payne and director Michael Longhurst of “If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet,” the play in which Gyllenhaal starred Off Broadway in 2012.

Payne’s play “Constellations” earned raves when it bowed in 2012 at London’s Royal Court, where the show starred Rafe Spall and Sally Hawkins in a premiere also helmed by Longhurst. The title went on to a West End run and has been circling New York ever since, arriving in Gotham in a staging produced by the Manhattan Theater Club and the Royal Court by special agreement with commercial entities Ambassador Theater Group and Dodger Properties.

The two-hander follows a romance between a beekeeper (Gyllenhaal) and a scientist who studies quantum mechanics, taking a fractured, quick-shifting approach to telling their tale as an exploration of the quantum-mechanics theory of coexisting parallel universes.

But sometimes the universe has other plans:

I'll never not want to see this movie. I hope it gets some kind of release.

Forgot to post this:

Wolfpack Boxing Club will be hosting DreamWorks productions for the filming of the new movie "Southpaw" starring Jake Gyllenhaal at the end of this month. We will be closed for a day or two during filming (6/30). We are extremely proud that they chose us and are excited to have our gym featured in the film! More details to come…

I saw a tweet of Rachel McAdams at KCAC (Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex) today, but nothing about Jake.

What a lovely smile! YV, thanks for the pics from "Mailed" too. OMG, they all look so young! I hardly recognized Jessica Biel.
I guess it's safe to say Jake uses his hair to help define his characters? LOL!

I should never type so early in the morning, UV! LOL! I meant "Nailed" of course. (Maybe Mailed would make a good sequel. ; ) )

So many interesting projects for Jake right now. It's great to see he's doing so well!

I also want to see UV. I remember liking the script.
It would be nice to see something of the old David O. Russell.

If you happen to see trucks lugging around projectors this week or people who look familiar, like movie stars, it is because filming of the Hope Films’ production of “Southpaw” begins Monday and will probably continue through the end of the month.,20047941/

John Varescak, of Indiana, was so enthused about being an extra in the movie that’s being filmed partially in Indiana this month that he took two weeks off work so he would be available.
When he went to the casting call, he got more than he bargained for.
Varescak has been chosen to play a ringside boxing official during filming of “Southpaw,” about a boxer who fights his way to the top only to find his life falling apart around him.
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime,” said Varescak, who said he arrived at 5 a.m. on the first day of casting calls at the Indiana Mall.
He said he does not anticipate having any speaking parts, but his role should put him in pretty close proximity to the film’s stars, Jake Gyllenhaal (Billy Hope) and Rachel McAdams (his wife, Maureen Hope).

Filming at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex is expected to start Monday.
At least 1,500 people are needed as extras to make up the audience for the boxing matches that will be set at the KCAC, which will be transformed into New York’s Madison Square Garden and a venue in Las Vegas.

The movie, being directed by Ambridge High School graduate Antoine Fuqua and produced by independent filmmaker Hope Films Inc., will be shot at the KCAC for about two weeks before cast and crew head to Pittsburgh.

So this is in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Right. Very confusing. : )

"Southpaw" stars Gyllenhaal, Whitaker, McAdams, and KCAC

The Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex becomes a movie star today, playing two roles in a big-time Hollywood production. The Ed Fry Arena will portray both the world’s most famous arena, New York’s Madison Square Garden, and a showy Las Vegas boxing venue in the movie Southpaw.

Shooting of the movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a top-ranked boxer whose life is falling apart is scheduled to take about two weeks here in Indiana and then move to Pittsburgh. Many Indiana County residents will be in on the action playing the crowd at the fights. Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker also stars in the movie along with Rachel McAdam and 50 Cent. The movie’s producers don’t say which of the stars will be here, although it seems fairly certain that Gyllenhaal and Whitaker will be.

The schedule will make for some long days. Shooting will be for 12 to 13 hours a day Monday through Friday the next two weeks.

I'm currently on the set of an upcoming movie..."Southpaw". I'll be announcing the final fight scene of the film. Fun!

Do they start with the final?

I don't think most films start at the beginning or any order but it would kind of make sense that final "fight" scenes would be done first since Indiana is where the fight scene crowds are or it could be the final fight scene before Jake's character starts his spiraling down phase. Or then again his comeback final scene.

Deadline: The Weinstein Company and director Antoine Fuqua have added a little ring credibility to their boxing pic Southpaw. Former world welterweight champion boxer-turned-actor Victor Ortiz has been added to a cast that has Jake Gyllenhaal starring with Rachel McAdams and Forest Whitaker. Sons Of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter wrote the script. Ortiz signed on to portray Ramone, a flyweight kid from the streets with real sparring potential. The character parallels Ortiz’s own rags-to-riches story of rising from childhood as a foster kid, to brawling his way to the championship belt in 2011. It’s the second significant role for Ortiz, who makes his feature film debut later this summer as one of the Young Expendables in Expendables 3.

Jake is in Indiana, Pennsylvania, filming a movie for the next couple of weeks, & it will be very intense boxing scenes they are filming.

But this guy says Jake bought a ticket to a show to see The Big, in Rochester, New York at The Bug Jar for tomorrow night? Rochester, New York is about 250 away from Indiana, PA.

Not saying it couldn't happen, but I wonder if this guy is kidding around. It would be unusual for Jake to "break training" while he's so focused on his work. I guess we 'll see. : )

Thanks to my mocha addiction my husband had an encounter with Jake Gyllenhaal at Whole Foods while I was at the Starbucks across the street.

From extras yesterday:

Omg jake just got us to do the wave!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Jake loves us, totally not scripted but bet anything it'll be in the movie 😌

From the Whole Foods woman above:

I can't fret too much about missing Jake today as I was an extra in Love & Other Drugs and had my own encounter in '09. #swag

From an extra's blog:

Fifty Cent and Forrest Whittaker are here, too. Just chilling and downing IPA’s on the patio, beneath the pergola I recently built (photos this weekend). Actually, I’m an extra–playing a reporter at a boxing match. Never watched a movie filmed before–it’s pretty interesting, mostly fun, and super long hours (I’ve got 41.5 hours logged in 3 days). Gyllenhaal is doing some serious acting–really impressive stuff. It’s going to be tough to wait a year or more to see how it works out. Not much else I can say, and sorry no pictures; we have to sign confidentiality agreements. They’re already thrown out a couple of people for taking cell pictures.

UltraViolet said...

I thought I posted this yesterday, but about ITW: I wanted Jake to do the movie because it's a prestige project and I think it will get a lot of publicity and probably some awards attention. All of these changes don't matter to me because I don't really know the musical. But I'll use it as a reason to be happy Jake didn't do the film.

Various tweets and posts from Southpaw extras. They are keeping a pretty tight lid on things. Not too much getting out:

Well here it is three-fifteen am, just got back to the hotel from "base camp" in "movie land". It has been a good and tiring experience. Lots of new learning, noy much like live theater. There are hundreds of "extras" that make up the "background" and make the noise and fill the seats. The production company treats all quite well, there is beverages, food and snacks the entire day long for the extras, It keeps three people busy. from morning til night just keeping things filled. Then there is 12-to-18 feet of table space behind the work area for the crew filled with just about anything a body would want to eat, from early morning until the night's wrap. Then they bring pizza in for the late workers. Truly well done. The talent will go unmentioned in respect for their privacy, but they are impressive and look good at what they are doing. Many rehearsals and "takes" until the director has what he wants. It has been an interesting experience! Glad to be here.

Jake's a big fan of sticking his tongue out when he tries to get the crowd going.

Jake Gyllenhaal just joked around with all of us #SoTheresThat

Anonymous said...

Southpaw's investor is from China. So, is that meant he'll go to China for promotion? Really want him to come

It depends on how the movie is distributed, I would think. If there is Chinese distribution it is possible. It would be fun wouldn't it!

An extra reports in detail about his work on "Southpaw" (The process–hundreds of us worked for a week to create what can’t end up being much more than 15 minutes of film, and even that feels long. The costs are astounding ... Led inside for a scene–it’s a really cool one, lots of conflict. Jake Gyllenhaal is tremendous and Miguel Gomez brings tons of charisma–he’s almost a scene stealer. One of the extras, a guy I’ve talked to all week, gets a bump to a speaking role–just one line, but he’s building a film career so it’s a big deal.))

Hagen said...

Week 1 of "Southpaw" filming wraps:
While the set has been closed, and no information as to what specific scenes are being filmed, we do know that the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex (KCAC) will double as a boxing venue from Las Vegas and the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden in New York.

Sorry for my monologue. Boxofficemojo has confirmed "Nightcrawlers"(!) as a wide release on October 17. There are three other movies with a wide release on that date.

Anonymous said...

Two of Jake's former co-stars are releasing movies Michelle (SC) and Zach (DD) on the same day as Nightcrawlers although I think it will be a tough opening against Book of Life and Birdman (although not a wide release yet) but the buzz has already begun for that movie. And I hope Michael Keaton scores some nominations, I thought he was an underrated Batman and the Birdman role is ironic.
