Cool Jake hunting

No - this isn't a shoot for Guns & Ammo. Sometimes those google searches turn up hidden gems, like these other photos from the Elle China shoot

Jake Gyllenhaal the actor is human, searching for connections with the people he works with, which explains his closeness to many of his previous co-stars, including the late Heath Ledger, Michelle Williams, and Anne Hathaway. For Gyllenhaal, these intimate experiences shared in front of the camera are benchmarks of his life – one that has been influenced by a familial tradition of movie-making. From his early indies such as “Donnie Darko”, to his breakout role in Ang Lee’s “Brokeback Mountain”, and his new film “Enemy”, he has always been looking for that connection; and when he finds it, that’s when the magic happens. In an exclusive interview with photos shot by Brigitte Lacombe, we connect with Jake Gyllenhaal, and find that curiosity is what makes him tick.

You can see the article here and do a quick google translation to get the gist.

But why read when you can look at the pretty pictures!

Fun series of tweets:

Awaiting "Prisoners" screening. Know almost NOTHING about it. A Gyllenhall is in it, I think.

Not in the mood to see this at all. I said that about "Captain Phillips," too. But I'd been excited for that initially.

Holy shit, "Prisoners."

It has that effect on people!

(waves to Paula C.) Yes, he does!
Very yummy. : ) I'm actually getting used to the hair style. (Almost.) These photos remind me that I wish Jake would hook up with Gucci or Prada or whoever. I'm tired of seeing Matthew McConaughey and James Franco in all those sexy ads every month

Jetzt sieht jake schon wieder etwas besser aus.Ich denke es fehlen noch die kürzeren Haare.Damit sieht er
auch jünger aus. Also Jake Haare ab.

Hi, anon. I think you're saying Jake looks better but these photos are old :)

Put the wrong link in my earlier post: In case people haven't seen it, Gyllencrazy made a wonderful post for Marzena, aka Mermon.

Hallo Ultraviolet
Ich finde wirklich das Jake mit den kürzeren Haaren jünger aussieht.Aber das ist eben auch Geschmacksache.Es war auf keinen Fall böse gemeint.Es ist ja auch gut,das nicht Alle einer

Yikes. Not smart. Those hand cuts/injuries can be bad and cause problems for a long time. Hopefully, it's just a minor thing that will heal quickly.

There is supposed to be a Prisoners screening in LA tonight, so we should get some reports on his hand.

I do love these photos!

Yikes. And he wants to play a mountain climber next???

( After all that, I hope they keep the footage of his character breaking the mirror in the movie.,: ))

#JakeGyllenhaal is intelligent, witty, and humble. It's just nice to confirm that.

Satya Vanii on Facebook
Jake Gyllenhaal had shared with actors of sagaftra today on how we deal with life greatly affects how we act and in our craft. He takes life seriously and focuses on the quality of life so his acting his choices in movies in turn reflects that. Such a profound and genius individual and nothing but love to life and people. A true artist and a true gem. Truly blown away by the way he thinks. Definitely felt in a therapeutic session an empowerment session on life.

He will have another Q&A tomorrow for Variety.

Appreciate all the tweets, anon. But no need to snipe at Leonor. A lot of people had that reaction upon hearing the news. Maybe she meant, "Oh no - what an idiotic thing to do!"

But I know Leonor didn't mean that. She was just concerned. And English is not her native language. And I know that because she is a frequent visitor here and uses her name.

UltraViolet said...

German anon - no worries. I didn't take any offense. Just wasn't sure what you meant :)

Hagen, LOL. And ditto! I'd love to see Blinky the Supercop again.

Hi, Daniela! So nice to see you again.

A couple more SAG posts from/conected to the moderator:

Jenelle Riley
Jake Gyllenhaal wrapped a movie this morning, had to get stitches in his hand, and only got four hours of sleep. Yet he came and gave an amazing career conversation for almost two hours at SAG Foundation today and proved funny, humble, and genuinely touched by the kind response. What a trouper.

Due to the untimely demise of moderator Jenelle Riley's watch, mine was able to share the Q&A stage today with Jake Gyllenhaal. This concludes today's installation of, "What? And leave show business?"

LOL.

It's nice to hear the kind words for Jake. It would be even nicer if any one of the scores of outlets that picked up this story did an actual follow up. I was hoping someone took a photo, but haven't seen one yet.

Entertainment Weekly: '2 Guns' Blu-ray - Director discusses sequel and the race to climb 'Everest' first:
In the meantime, you’re working on Everest, right, with Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, and John Hawkes?
And Jason Clarke as well. I’m starting in early January. What I really wanted with that film was to go maybe a little bit opposite to 2 Guns. It’s an ensemble. It’s about the mountain as well. It’s got a really strong ensemble — I mean they’re all stars but they fit into an ensemble. [We'll shoot] in Nepal and Italy and London and some work will be done in Iceland, but most of it will be in Nepal and Italy.

There’s another Everest-titled film in the works — completely different in story, characters, and era — but nonetheless, I imagine it’s important to be first into theaters for obvious reasons.
Well, of course it is. You’d rather be first than second in that kind of a race. But it’s not so much in my control. Again, I think we’re ahead of the game right now but who knows when it comes out. I think [the rival project] might be starting a little bit later, but who knows. Of course, you’d rather be ahead of them, if you can.

Especially in this case, since being first might lay claim to the title…
[Laughs] Yeah.

UltraViolet said...

I hope this one is first, too. I wonder if there's any evidence that being the first to market is better for similarly themed films. I know this year, that Gerard Butler White House movie beat the Maggie/Channing Tatum/Jamie Foxx version. But I don't know if it was timing or quality or both.

Probably not. "Snow White and the Huntsman" was released two months after "Mirror Mirror" and did much better at the box office. (To be fair "Snow White" had also a bigger budget than "Mirror Mirror".)

Enjoyed more than expected by # Enemy. Beautifully filmed mindfuck from the increasingly fascinating Denis Villeneuve. # SFF13

- And how. Mindfuck is the right word for the film.

Enemy. Little more surface than substance, unfortunately, but beautiful finish on an exciting, strange and driven film. Gyllenhaal is great. Understood. 3.9 / 5th # sff13

Enemy ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆
Nice evocative thriller where puzzle almost goes together all the time, but that it is not the best. Stylish, uncomfortable. # SFF13

Jake Gyllenhaal times two in "Enemy". Pretty good actually. # SFF13

Enemy was foam. Will be interesting to see if Wrong Cops are foam or flume. # SFF13

#SFF13 Enemy Troubled intense and interesting! Can not help but think how much unexplored paths it could take but chose others instead./Enemy would have fit that mini series and been able to go deeper over a longer time span. The question is whether we received Gyllenhaal / Villeneuve?

Enemy: so strange and interesting that I get a headache. I love Jake Gyllenhaal.

A miniseries with the two Jakes would have been pretty fun, actually!

“I heard from the guy that most of Red is about,” Swift said. “He was like, ‘I just listened to the album, and that was a really bittersweet experience for me. It was like going through a photo album.’ That was nice. Nicer than, like, the ranting, crazy e-mails I got from this one dude. It’s a lot more mature way of looking at a love that was wonderful until it was terrible, and both people got hurt from it—but one of those people happened to be a songwriter.”

She rolled her eyes. “So what are you going to do? Did you not Wikipedia me before you called me up?”

Realist said...

Well her most of her fans are still read fairytales by their parents.

The comment about the "mature acting" guy who the record is mostly about which Taylor and her PR machine have skillfully led people to believe is about Jake but at the same time Taylor and her people have also made the guy out to be pig also supposedly Jake. Which is it Taylor? Her fans have painted Jake as a villain, will they now ask the same question? Or finally see they have been manipulated?

Probably not, 10 years do not read Vulture.

Its a business, that's her MO. Jake is smart by keeping quiet and moving on.

These 10 year olds will read Vulture because of it.

She loves to be in gossip. She tell to everyone that Jake heard her crap album at the same time, she uses it against John Mayer, the crazy guy who sent the email. Two issues to the tabloids.

Now people will stop talking about the work of Jake, to come back to talk about something that happened more three years ago.

Just one thing about Taylor: If any of what she said is true, it's not a bad response. Her genius is making it sound like something Jake might actually say.

But of course, she has to be coy about it all, and that's where she loses me. I don't care about confessional songs. I dislike cutesie clues in lyrics and "who me" dissembling.

I am waiting for the day someone asks her about one of her killer lines (the girl can write a line: So casually cruel in the name of being honest.

Isn't that what she does, in a nutshell?

Okay - had to get that off my chest. I long for the day when Taylor Swift is not a topic of conversation for Jake fans.

Speaking if Jake and something we actually know he's doing: Presenting at these awards.

Its kind of sexy when messed a little bit. I am hoping for a blonde dye job for Everest and didn't the man being portrayed by Jake had longish hair.

UltraViolet said...

From a few tweets, it looks like Enemy is going directly to DVD in France. No date yet.

The hair is a little long. I don't know what the Everest guy looked like except that he was blond. Did he have long hair?

According to WENN:

Jake Gyllenhaal was also among the presenters and he gave a speech paying tribute to the work done by casting directors throughout the industry, saying, “On behalf of me, my sister (actress Maggie Gyllenhaal), my brother-in-law, who’s an actor (Peter Sarsgaard), my mother and my father. We could not have done it without you. It’s actually really wonderful to see casting directors get up here and be more nervous than I’ve ever seen them. Now you know how we (actors) feel!”

That's cute.

I think he looks pretty good in the photos. Getting back to his fighting weight.

Sag preview

Richard Jenkins on Jake Gyllenhaal as Detective Loki in “Prisoners”
Jake Gyllenhaal in “Prisoners” was simply a cop doing his job, and it was a beautiful thing to watch. I didn't know anything about his character, where he was from, if he was married, had any kids, what the tattoo on his neck meant or why he buttoned the top button of his shirt. Nothing. And he wasn't interested in telling me. He was too busy being a cop. But by the movie's end, I knew him. Totally. Completely.

And he was never interested in helping me, as an audience member, understand him, or like him, or sympathize with him. He was only interested in doing his job. It's always thrilling to watch a living, breathing human being on the screen. That's Jake. He takes you with him on this journey.

Doesn't ask you to come along, doesn't even know you're there, because he's too busy being a cop doing his job. It's the case of a lifetime for this guy and he's working it alone. No other cops to talk about it with. It's internalized, lived, and I could watch all day. Simply a great performance.

(Jenkins' credits include “Six Feet Under” and “A.C.O.D.” He earned an Oscar nomination for his role in “The Visitor.”)

UltraViolet said...
