Just around the corner...

Prisoners will be out in the United States in five weeks. But wait, you say. There has been practically no marketing!

Don't look at me. Blame Warner Brothers!

One television spot? That's all you've got?

Look, an international trailer, too!

I'm tempted to say "Wake me when you have something good," but the TV spot is pretty well done. Definitely puts you on edge.

We'll see if they get their Facebook and Twitter presence ramped up. It's going to get crowded out there in promoland next month. I'd like to see Prisoners get ahead of the pack.

I think now we will see more about the movie.I hope.

Just saw this on FB. I'm assuming the reference is to Nightcrawlers, since they're definitely in pre-production mode, doing auditions and hiring people:

"Confirmed I am Doing the Next Jake Gyllenhal Movie I hear it is a big one!!! I guess i did a good job on this movie :) God Bless"

Anonymous said...

This looks good. I can't wait to see "Prisoners."

Isn't Jake a producer on NIghtcrawlers? Maybe that is part of the reason he is in LA , to do all the pre production thing. What studio is behind Nightcrawlers?

hope you all are having a good day

Via AwardsWatch: "Enemy" will probably premiere on September 8th (and "Prisoners" on September 6th, but we already knew that).

Jake is on the cover of "InStyle Men" in Germany. There's an interview with Jake in the magazine, but so far I've read only a short abstract that is hardly earth-shattering. ;-)
He doesn't act to support his fancy lifestyle. He takes his job seriously and thinks that films can move an issue forward. He feels a bit like a journeyman who wants to explore human nature including the abysses. And it doesn't bother him to be recognized by fans at the gym.

I'm assuming the reference is to Nightcrawlers, since they're definitely in pre-production mode, doing auditions and hiring people.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming casting news on "Nightcrawler". :-)

What studio is behind Nightcrawlers?

I don't think there's a film studio behind "Nightcrawler". It's going to be an independent movie (financed by BOLD Films).

Exclusive: Christopher Nolan Recommends Wes Bentley For New Batman; Jake Gyllenhaal, Luke Evans, Ben Affleck Contenders

CosmicBookNews' DC Entertainment source has provided the following list of names that are said to be offered screen tests for the new Batman alongside Superman Henry Cavill. We're told one of the spare Dark Knight Trilogy Batman suits will probably be used for the screen test. The source gave us an update in regards to Tyler Hoechlin in that it looks like production feels he is too young for the role and won't be getting a screen test. Wes Bentley, Jake Gyllenhaal, Luke Evans, and Ben Affleck are the names provided. Wes Bentley is said to be Christopher Nolan's recommendation. Bentley has a prominent role in Nolan's Interstellar, which is currently in production. David Goyer is said to be a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal, with it previously said Gyllenhaal was Goyer's pick for the Dark Knight in Batman Begins. Luke Evans is an up-and-coming actor who starred alongside Cavill in Immortals, had roles in The Hobbit, Clash of the Titans, Fast and Furious 6, and has landed the lead role in the new Dracula movie. Affleck, we are told, may decline, but WB is still asking. There was also a previous rumor about Scott Adkins trying out for the new Batman role, but our source says Adkins definitely hasn't screen tested because auditions have yet to take place. It could be that Adkins auditioned for the stunt double or fight choreographer. The actual Batman auditions look to begin in September with an announcement not coming until mid-September/October. Our source recently filled us in that Mark Strong was up for the role of Lex Luthor, which the actor seemed to confirm as well as some scenes and info from the Man of Steel. Regarding the source's Justice League movie news, that is said to have been in the plans, but Warner Bros. decided to go with a Batman/Superman movie. It's said Zack Snyder wanted a stand alone Man of Steel sequel leading to Justice League, but Snyder recenty stated he has to go the route WB wants him to. Other factors also played into why WB is going with Batman/Superman in 2015. the sequel to Man of Steel, goes into production next year for a 2015 release starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. For more news on the Man of Steel and related movies head on over to the Cosmic Book News Superman movie hub.

I don't want Jake to be next batman, i don't think it's a good choice after Nolan's success.

I do hope the promotion for Prisoners gets into high gear come September. Its suppose to be a Oscat-baity film so I expect a better push from the studio.

Ditto Likemonlisa. I cringe everytime Jake's name is attached to Batman.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry, I think they'll go with the cheapest actor.

UltraViolet said...

I don't necessarily want Jake to play Batman either. But it annoys me that NOlan would recommend Wes Bentley.

FP said...

From what I've gotten, Nolan is just among the producers of the movie, the soul and the heart of the Man of Steel is David Goyer, who is the screenwriter of Batman that would take Jake over Bale

Monica said...

Cosmic Book News is not a trusted site, I'm not saying that these actors aren't on the list of warner (except Ben Affleck lol). Notice that other sites aren't reporting this news.

Nolan will just an executive producer. Executive Producers do almost nothing, sometimes they give their name just to increase the prestige of a production.
For this new film, I think warner a$ked to use his name in the trailers and during the promo. Just that.

TIFF about "Enemy": Brilliantly adapted from the late Nobel Prize-winning author José Saramago's 2002 novel The Double, the latest from the Academy Award-nominated Denis Villeneuve breathes new life into the doppelgänger tradition, with a hypnotic, haunting, surreal approach that reaffirms the Quebec director as one of our generation's most skilled storytellers.

Adam Bell (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a glum, disheveled history professor, who seems disinterested even in sex with his beautiful girlfriend, Mary (Mélanie Laurent). Watching a movie on the recommendation of a colleague, Adam spots his double, an actor named Anthony Clair, in a bit role, and decides to track him down — an adventure he quite relishes. The identical men meet, and their lives become bizarrely and irrevocably intertwined.

Set amidst the high-rises of Toronto, accented by a palette of muted browns and discordant cello notes, the world of Enemy signals something deeply wrong hiding beneath its glassy, opaque surfaces. Dark dreams creep onto the screen, and as they begin to bleed into reality, the truth becomes even more unknowable.

Gyllenhaal is transfixing as both Adam and Anthony, engendering empathy as well as disapproval while embodying two distinct personas. He is supported by an excellent small cast, including Sarah Gadon (a 2011 TIFF Rising Star) as Anthony's pregnant wife. Enemy marks Villeneuve's impressive foray into English-language filmmaking (his US-shot film Prisoners is also screening at the Festival — and also stars Gyllenhaal). With masterfully controlled attention to detail, Villeneuve takes us on an enigmatic and gripping journey through a world that is both familiar and strange — and hard to shake off long after its final, unnerving image
(written by Agata Smoluch Del Sorbo).

The movie will premiere on Sunday, September 8th at 6 PM at the Ryerson Theatre after "The Armstrong Lie" and before "Night Moves" (schedule).

Hagen said...

Cameron Bailey, the artistic director of TIFF, about "Prisoners": With an Oscar nomination for Incendies and an unbroken list of strong independent features behind him, Montreal's Denis Villeneuve (whose An Enemy is also at the Festival) was clearly ready for bigger things. And yet it's still a surprise to experience Prisoners. Taut, controlled, precise and high-impact, this is Hollywood filmmaking at its best. Working with a dream cast led by Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, Villeneuve proves himself the equal of today's best studio directors.

On an overcast Thanksgiving in suburban Massachusetts, two neighbouring families gather for dinner. Food, drink, games, and stories are shared. But as the party begins to wind down, the youngest daughters from each household are nowhere to be found. Panic sets in as the parents remember the mysterious Winnebago that was parked on their street earlier in the day. What has happened to the children?

Gyllenhaal plays the lead detective investigating the disappearance. Although his work soon reveals a suspect in the form of a young misfit (Paul Dano), a solid case proves elusive. He begins the hard slog to collect evidence, but his calm determination soon proves too much for the girls' parents, who endure each passing hour with increasing panic. It's not long before one girl's father (Hugh Jackman) decides to take both the hunt and the punishment into his own hands.

With a plot that advances through surprise and logic, Prisoners consistently engages both the mind and gut. In addition to Jackman and Gyllenhaal, supporting actors Terrence Howard, Viola Davis, Maria Bello and Melissa Leo turn in beautifully calibrated performances. And the combination of Villeneuve's feel for dramatic rhythm and Roger A. Deakins's coolly perfect images produces a potent result. Prisoners has its disturbing moments, but this is a smart, polished thriller that knows just how and when to ratchet up the tension.

The movie will premiere on Friday, September 6th at the Elgin Theater at 9 PM after "Violette" (schedule).

Monica said...

wow thanks!

Hagen said...

Isabella Rosselini will attend the premiere of "Enemy" (full list of filmmakers and actors who are expected to attend TIFF, including Jake and Denis Villeneuve).

UltraViolet said...

Thanks, Hagen! The Enemy summary sounds promising but it is written to promote the film. This doesn't sound appealing: "accented by a palette of muted browns and discordant cello notes," lol. But hypnotic, haunting and transfixing are pretty good adjectives!

Yay for Isabella Rossellini, always!
