Not sure if the British DVD has anything we didn't get on this side of the pond. Anyone out there have the UK version?

Up late with a bad cold, figured I'd put up a bad post :)

Wonder if this explains the lack of set reports?

"So Jake Gyllenhaal has a requirement that no one be within 100 foot radius of him. So due to this rule the staff put the fans way the heck away from the shooting to respect this rule. They won't tell this to your face and just lie saying 'Oh you'll be in the shot.' I was actually a very well behaved fan and was there to just witness the movie. I had no interest in yelling or running after the stars. I can't do that anyway because I'm too sick from a rare disease to do that! I wasn't even there to see Jake anyway! Jake Gyllenhaal you obviously have a lot to learn. 1. It's the fans that pay your salary. We can turn on you quickly. 2. You act like you are an elite actor, you're not. You weren't even in the leading role. No one knows movies you have been in except 'Brokeback Mountain' and that wasn't a leading role either. 3. It is not wise to upset those that have debilitating diseases that can kill someone quicker than your career. I hate to have a flare up and the last thing I remember about you is how much of a jerk you are. Luckily you aren't worth my thoughts. If I survive long enough I expect to see you on some low list reality show where you beg to be important. I only support actors that show love and support to the people that pay to see their movies."

And a rejoinder:

"To the person who was complaining about Jake Gyllenhaal and the "100 foot radius" rule: If you had to deal with the kind of wing-nuts who show up at shoots and other places that he has to deal with, you'd want a 100 foot radius around you, too. This isn't about being elitist; it's about being safe."

The first person sounds a bit unhinged, but I do sometimes wish Jake would/could just go with the flow a little more.

Should Jake play Nick for Fincher?

I know he's one of the current darlings, but JGL is all wrong for this. I bet it will go to Bradley, who is approaching to old to play it.

Jake is perfect for the part. I don't know if the Reese angle will prevent it from happening.

Also, it is SO annoying that IndieWire repeats the old Fincher/Jake nonsense. Sigh.

According to this, both Jake and Hugh will appear at the Haiti fundraiser Maria Bello mentioned previously.

Hmmm. The complainer does seem a bit unhinged, UV. Jake's done two films (EoW & Enemies) on open sets,in the age of Instagram, Twitter & FB, and even tho I've enjoyed the photos, I can appreciate how disruptive it might be for everyone on set.

I'm taking this complaint with a grain of salt. We've seen very few photos from the set period. Even before Jake went to ATL. FB & Twitter are also pretty quiet.

There haven't been any other complaints online, as I recall. I just think it's being held very close all around.

I'd love to see Jake & Fincher work together again.

bobbyanna said...

Sorry you aren't feeling well, UV. This crazy weather doesn't help. It was cold & rainy here, yesterday, and I woke up to two+ inches of snow and it's still coming down. :(

So Adam Levine was right! hehehehe (just a joke)

He was a leader in Brokeback Mountain. It was only changed to the awards.

I said, Reese hates Jake and she will not want to see him in this movie. It seems Joseph will be in Nolan's new film, unfortunately.

Fincher said...

"I said, Reese hates Jake and she will not want to see him in this movie. It seems Joseph will be in Nolan's new film, unfortunately."

I don't think Reese even if she is producer has that kind of power over Fincher. I really do not think Jake wants to work with him again, if FIncher really wanted Jake he would get him in spite of Reese.

Bradley is quickly becoming overrated.

But it's simply not Jake's time again. It will happen though, I don't think Jake wants to force himself anymore. Let him remain under the radar for now.

bobbyanna said...

I agree, monica, altho, I wouldn't say she hates him, but I don't think she'd feel comfortable, neither would her husband. And think of Jake. How would he feel seeing her with her kids, all three of them, visiting her on set, and maybe her husband stopping by as well.

If she is a producer she will want things set up to her benefit, and even David Fincher knows he has to accomodate his producers. I think the Fincher/ Jake relationship is a friendly one. I hope they find something they can work on one day.

Mary said...

Sorry you r not feeling well UV.

I think prisoners might be a closed set you don't even see any pics of Hugh on set 100 foot radius is not that far.

Monica said...

As a producer, Reese has power over the movie yes. She can veto some choices of the cast.
Jake recently said good words about Fincher in that interview by Tapley.

Bob, I agree with you, he would feel uncomfortable.

Bradley gave a good performance in SLP, but Gosling, for example, would have done better.

Chica said...

I thought that Prisoners was a closed set that's why we haven't been seeing any on set pics.

I miss the on set pics and chatter about this film but I also understand. It must be very distracting with fans lurking about. That fan sounds a bit child ish.

I hope that Jake works with Fincher again but I don't think this is the project.

Feel better UV!

bobbyanna said...

I think Jake would've been awesome in SLP, and he'd be ideal for Nick.

I totally agree JGL is all wrong for Nick. Mark Ruffalo's too old, but he'd be better than JGL. He's worked for Fincher before too.

I'd bet they'll someone who's most often thought of as a supporting actor who won't take the spotlight off the STAR/Producer. ; )

I don't know why any movie would let fans get close to a filming. The actors are Working - which means they have to be concentrating on what they are doing. I think people think actors just show up, shoot a scene..go to another..or whatever and it takes nothing more than that. Majority of movies are not shot in sequence. They might do a scene at the end of a movie one day and one at the beginning the next and the actors have to be in the "skin" of that character at all times and of course scenes are shot from different angles.
I see things now and then where Reese is talking to people who are friends of Jake. She and Jennifer A. are still good friends and Jennifer loves Jake.
Just don't feel Reese would try to keep Jake from doing anything - for one thing don't think it would reflect well on her with her friends (who are friends of Jake).
I enjoyed the article a couple years of ago with Jake and Fincher in "Interview". That magazine asked one person to interview another and it was Jake interviewing Fincher. If Fincher didn't want to do it, he could of said no. Had humor and Jake saying maybe they could make a civil war movie together - kidding or not i don't doubt he would like to work with him again..he's older, he understands how things are and he knows he does top-notch work.

I have seen this today, and i think is very sweet:

Ashley Tisdale Is On The Prowl For Mr. Jake Gyllenhaal

Back in 2001, way before Ashley Tisdale shot to fame in Disney’s High School Musical, she had a very small role in the movie Donnie Darko. Her co-star, was heartthrob Jake Gyllenhal, in which Tisdale still is desperate to work with him once again.

Ashley was so impressed and taken by Jake, she says, “I was in one scene with Jake. I met him and he was the nicest guy in the entire world. At the premiere he even remembered who I was. I was there for a day. I had, like, two lines. But I’d like to actually do another scene with him, more.”

She went on to say,”I would love to work with Jake Gyllenhaal … Johnny Depp. I love Kate Hudson. She’s one of my favorites.” In fact, Tisdale is actively seeking out much more dramatic role for herself in the future.

http://www.chicainc.com/ashley-tisdale-is-on-the-prowl-for-mr-jake-gyllenhaal

I believe we can not please everybody all the time, sometimes we make decitions that other people will not like, but is necessary. I think if Jake ask that nobody can see he making the movie is because have a good reason.

Reese was already friends with Jen Aniston before her relationship with Jake. And it's not like she's going to tell the world that doesn't want Jake. But if Fincher chose him, I think she will say no.
I think Jake would say no too.
There is nothing indicating that both became friendly after what happened. So, I don't see it happening.

Oh that poor girl! I hope Jake was nice to her.

I think the Fincher and Reese angles make Gone Girl all the more intriguing. Fincher, I hope, would work with Jake again. I'm sure Jake would work with him. Reese? Who knows if Jake would want to do it or if she would. But it's the kind of high profile project Jake doesn't seem to get these days, and it would be cool to see him land it or something like it.

The role does have its issues, so if he doesn't play the part, that will be compensation.

Also, I disagree that Ryan Gosling would have been better than Bradley Cooper in SLP. I have a lot of issues with the movie, but BC was very good in it. He deserved awards more than Jennifer Lawrence, by miles.

Anonymous said...

Ryan was too young for SLP.

UltraViolet said...

Didn't stop them from hiring Jennifer Lawrence, who was more than a decade too young, not just a few years.

UltraViolet said...

Just updated with a short video of Jake and Michael discussing who's the better shot.

Anonymous said...

"Didn't stop them from hiring Jennifer Lawrence, who was more than a decade too young, not just a few years."

That was the point of the casting I believe. It's not Jennifer or Anne H or Ryan G or Brad Cooper's fault Jake has not won an OScar or gotten the high profile roles or even in the running. He made really bad choices personally and professionally that are biting him in the butt now. It's going to take a lot of more hard work for Jake to be taken seriously by studios anymore.

It's Jake's fault he is not getting bigger roles. I think he would have been awesome in OZ but James Franco got the role, why because he was patient after being in costar roles. Jake wanted too much too soon and he failed. But lucky for him he has the acting chops, looks and time to recover.

I wish his fans would.

Going to see a screening of An Enemy starring Jake Gyllanhaal tonight at Varsity Cinema #SuperStoked

I saw a recent flickr photo from the score recording. I wonder what state of completion the film will be in.

bobyanna said...

Anon, sure Jake has some responsibility for his choices, but there are other reasons Jake's not doing roles like SLP, and as UV pointed out maybe it's because he isn't offered those roles.

IMO, CAA did not serve Jake well after BBM at all. His agency didn't go after roles as agressively as they should have. Good agents who try to develop your career are hard to find. There's pressure tofind the next big thing.

Secondly, I'm glad you mention James Franco. James was at least the third choice in a very public search that started with Johnny Depp. And that's the point.:

Certain actors are offered roles automatically: Johnny Depp, Leo, Matt Damon,Wahlberg, Denzel. You can produce/finance your own movies,or take what's left.

Bradley Cooper agressively campaigns for his roles. Yet, except for the Hangover movies, neither BC, RR,or RG have set the world on fire and lived up to H'wood's expectations.Bradley's in his late 30's done TV, and seems determined to "go for the gold." : )

As for Jake's choices: Maybe he could've done a film about a runaway train starring Denzel Washington, but he opted for Source Code instead. Or Safe House with Denzel, instead of Ryan Reynolds.

Neither Chris Pine or RR were very memorable in their "supporting" roles. Those were star vehicles for Denzel.

I don't think Jake has a problem being second lead if the role itself is interesting, has substance, and it serves the story.

I'm glad Jake's with WME, and Patrick Whitesell now. PW did wonders for Ben Affleck. I agree Jake's an awesome actor.I believe he'll get the recognition and the roles he deserves sooner than we realize. : )

What a great reply, bobyanna.

I, like everybody else, would love to see Jake recognized for what he does, but sometimes I think, maybe it's not what he wants.

Not the recognition, he sure wants that. But I'm not sure that being a Hollywood A-Lister is a career goal of his.
Mostly he seems to be interested in just telling stories. He doesn't seem to need the fame and attention that comes with it.

He's a smart guy, I'm sure that if he would behave differently, if that got him something he wanted.

Seems to me, that in the past years he searched himself, what makes him happy and content and he doesn't give two craps about whether that is seen "fit" in Hollywood.

Which is an attitude that makes me respect him all the more.

I'm not quite so sure if Jake really would like to work with David Fincher again. (Fincher put Jesse Eisenberg and Rooney Mara through nearly 100 takes of the opening scene of "The Social Network", too. That nightmare could easily repeat.) Brad Pitt is the only actor, that comes to my mind, David Fincher has worked with several times. I think Fincher is a highly respected, but not much loved director.

UltraViolet said...

MonaLisa, the anon is just someone who doesn't like Jake. Please don't expect a rational or reasoned answer.

It's true that Jake's career has not gone as it seemed it would. PoP was a big mistake, and the after effects linger. It took a long time out of his schedule, when he perhaps could have done other, better roles. And the perceived failure, while greater than the actual failure, is made worse because of the cultural issues (Jake playing a PErsian, another video game failure, a big Bruckheimer/Disney move that tried to be a franchise and failed).

So a movie that really didn't do that badly becomes a joke due to perception, and the fallout from that is great.

I've also said many times that Jake has been unlucky as well as unwise. It wasn't smart to do PoP. It was smart to do a Fincher movie. Sadly, he did the one Fincher film in the last several that was a commercial dud. Same with David O Russell. He's done a series of movies that have garnered critical acclaim and/or done well at the box office. And then there's Nailed.

Hollywood is a place where you need luck and skill and smarts. I think Jake has made some smart choices and is suffering for one bad choice.

bobbyanna said...

I agree with you about being unlucky, UV, and you mentioned something else I hadn't thought about. PoP was a very long shoot.

I'm sensitive to criticisms of the "anon" kind, because it seems other actors get a free pass, and aren't defined by their duds.

radley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Gosling, etc. all have made duds, all have been unlucky or unwise at times, but these aren't career defining moments for them.
In fact, a few of them have management teams/PR that spins things so that they keep chugging along.

There were gaps in Jake's schedule and I wish he would've done more work. I like the way he's working now. Back to back. : )That way the ones that turn out to be not so great won't stick out.

I'm just feeling optimistic now he seems to have "turned the page" with WME.

Hope we hear more feedback frm the Enemies screening. Yaay for Mermon. : )

Hagen said...

I agree that Jake had some bad luck in his career, especially the box office duds during the heydays of his popularity.

But I don't think PoP did much harm to Jake's career. The movies after PoP (LAOD and SC) reached a higher worldwide gross than "Jarhead" and "Zodiac", movies he did when he was Hollywood's 'It guy'. PoP clearly helped him to strengthen his international popularity. (When Duncan Jones announced his "World of Warcraft" adaptation in February, Germany's best-selling tabloid "Bild" looked back at video game adaptations. "Bild" thinks PoP was brilliant, was well received by critics and concluded "TOP!". This is a bit of a stretch, even for a fan. ;) But the point is, the image of an actor and his movies can vary widely from country to country.)

It's hardly a review of "An Enemy", but we take what we can get. ;)

From a blog called "Upcoming Nude Scenes": One of my blog readers saw a screening of the new Denis Villeneuve film "An Enemy" (starring Jake Gyllenhall) and reports that MĂ©lanie Laurent and Sarah Gadon have nude scenes in the film. Here is the report:

Caught a test screening of Canadian director Denis Villeneuve's latest film An Enemy tonight in Toronto. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a man seeking out his exact look-alike after he spots him in a movie. It co-stars French actress MĂ©lanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds) and Canadian actress Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method, Cosmopolis). Both show frequent skin throughout the film, mostly breasts and possibly brief butt in numerous sex scenes. Gadon's character is pregnant and wearing a prosthetic, so it's possible her breasts were fake as well though... though they looked real enough.

Afterwards, the blog reader sent me a link with an interview with Sarah Gadon, in which she discusses her nude scene in the film.

‘Can’t you just take your clothes off for this film?’” The last query is not hypothetical. Gadon went back and forth with Villeneuve about appearing nude in An Enemy: She wasn’t sure it was totally necessary. They eventually compromised on a single shot done only in silhouette. But because her character is pregnant, she had to be fitted with a prosthesis, which was so beautiful and realistic that Gadon went back and insisted it be included in the film. “[Villeneuve] said ‘But we had all these meetings about how there would be no nudity!’ Basically, I won the argument against myself,” she says with a laugh. “But I also think he sort of knew how it was going to end up the whole time.”

The movie director, costume designer, lighting crew, tech crew, and more all did a walk through of our home today. As a result they have changed the scene and will be shooting it in the inside rather than at the front door. Here in Norway POP was very good, I still remember one guy by my side that make the comment: Oh dear Lord look that biceps and he does not look a Persian to me at all, he looks like a dirty Viking,:)) here it was a family movie, many children a lot of noise.
LAOD was very bad, just stay 4 days in the movie theather, just in Oslo was like 1 week. Source code was worst because just show in 3 cities, I must to wait to see in DVD.
I believe whats happen in 2010 was the fact that his private life overshadowed his work. That relationship with TS was not good at all and the worst think was how ´s over. The press here make a storm about it and what I know now she is an sweet angel and her music just don’t stop play.

But it seems that he start to find his balance, i just wish the best for him.

Obviously, listening to it will be more about the words but still.

Johnny Depp had very few movies that would get anywhere near being hits until "Pirates"..
Sometimes its the subject of the movies that might not be appealing to a large group of people at the time. You see movies being made because it feels important to do it for the people involved but its not going to have a large audience. Doesn't take away from the fact it would be an excellent movie with excellent performances.
In other words - Jake is OK. He will continue to act, and hope he will also direct some day and do the Stage. His career will continue and he will work as long as he wants to.

I make UV words my own. I read the Great Gatsby a few years ago, and the reading experience is so intense. I suggest that people read the book first and then have the pleasure of listening to Jake take us on that journey. I'm also looking forward to see the movie, and this is one I would love to see Jake in, he would be great in it, especially co-starring with Carey Mulligan.

Actually I think Jake and Gosling would have been perfect casting for the Great Gatsby remake, no offense to Leo or Toby.

EOW was on my top ten list for 2012 and i'm looking forward to Prisoners and Enemy as well.

POP got a bad rap , I enjoyed it for what it was. Too bad bt HW standards it wasn't sucsessful. Would have liked a sequel.

I can only hope Jake wouldn't let the poor girls be naked all by themselves.... : )

LOL, that would be very impolite, indeed.

I had read about it, but here's the video of Hugh Jackman's double talking about Prisoners!

Thanks, Monica. He seems to be sincerely impressed by Jackman's performance and the entire cast of "Prisoners".

...The film, which would have been Ramsay's fourth, stars Portman as Jane, a woman whose husband comes home riddled with bullets.

Convinced the gang that wounded him will return to finish the job, she turns to an ex-lover to help her defend her husband and her farm. Fassbender was set to play the ex-lover, but he dropped off the project this month reportedly because of scheduling issues with his upcoming “X-Men” movie.

That departure saw Edgerton, originally slated to play the villain, take on the Fassbender role while Jude Law signed up to replace Edgerton as the bad guy.

Now with Law off the film, O'Connor is said to be looking at a slew of actors, namely those with an international brand who also happen to look good in a hat. On that list are Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Jeff Bridges.

LOL.:) just must wait. and Jake is wonderful in a hat.

I'd love to see Jake squeeze this in somehow, but from what I've read, they are ready to go. I don't think Jake is.

Of course, they could shoot around his schedule, I guess. I don't know enough about the story to know if Jake's character is in most scenes.

It's nice to see his name bandied about for a hot project, even if it is after a few people have dropped out.

After the filming of the movie Prisoners wrapped up in our living room yesterday, the best moment for me was to personally thank actor Jake Gyllenhaal I wanted to say thank you as a Pastor... on behalf of all the gay and lesbians of the world for being willing to make the film, "Brokeback Mountain." Many actors would have been hesitant to take on a role like that. I thanked him for telling a story of love that is everyone's story who have been oppressed by inequality thinking or struggled with self acceptance. I wanted him to how much I appreciated his stand and how much the kind of Christian Church I represent appreciated it as well. So again, Thank you, Jake for your role in creating greater awareness and contributing to the higher consciousness of equality for all. We all thank you.

From tumblr, posted on Saturday:

I was on a movie set yesterday.
I was less than a foot away from Jake Gyllenhaal. I literally died, came back to life, and died again. I didn’t say hi because he was talking to an official person, but omg. I made a whole song and everything about how excited I was. I’m pretty sure he heard me singing. Lol. Like holy shit he’s so freaking attractive.

And this poor person:

so I went out for ice cream with some friends tonight and guys, backstory first:

Last week my BFF and I went to get tacos at lunch and he thought we were standing in line behind Jake Gyllenhaal. “Is that Jake Gyllenhaal?” he whispered. “I swear that is Jake Gyllenhaal.” But then the guy turned around and he was clearly NOT Jake Gyllenhaal, he was some dude with a big bushy mustache. So I said, “Maybe he’s Jake Gyllenhaal’s porn parody counterpart.”

OK backstory complete.

SO ICE CREAM. We’re in the ice cream shop and there’s a big crowd and no one is moving ahead to the next guy in line, so I step up and order a Fanta float (yum yum in mah tumtum) and the counter boy hands me a cup of soft serve and the bottle of Fanta. I have to put down the Fanta in order to get my wallet so I step up next to the guy in front of me, say “Excuse me” and reach past him to set my soda down on the counter. Then I get really involved with finding the right bills to pay the cashier and I don’t notice much until my BFF shakes me by the shoulder and hisses, “THAT WAS JAKE GYLLENHAAL.”

And because of the events of the previous week, I make an assumption and go, “Oh, the porn star guy?”

The ice cream boys are looking at me like I’m crazy at this point.

“No. Not a porn star. An actor. Named JAKE GYLLENHAAL,” our other friend says.

“What. No. I was standing right here with my Fanta and—”

“And you shoved Jake Fucking Gyllenhaal out of the way to put your goddamn soda down!”

“I did not shove! That was not—”

“That was him,” the cashier says with a firm nod.

“You shoved Brokeback aside,” my friend continues. “Brokeback!”

“You called him a porn star!” the other laments. “Why would you DO that?”

“There was a man with a mustache at the taco place,” I pretty much sob, sounding like the most insane person ever to set foot in the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop.

“That was totally him,” the ice cream boy adds. “Totally.”

“Brokeback.” My BFF shakes his head.

I found this picture of Jake and Taylor on tumblr (in black and white), a friend helped me find the original.

Wow, Sasha, it's bad enough getting passed all that crap on Twitter and FB to find any information about Jake, but I like to think GB is a 'safe haven' where we can get away from that garbage.

He sure paid a high price for a few dates. He's moved on, she's moved on, and I wish her fans and her marketing people would move on.

I've seen Jake taking photos with fans and that one is nothing special. She was all about photos that Thanksgiving weekend.

Monica said...

Sasha, this photo is from that thanksgiving weekend and not in January, as the article says. He went with her to St. Louis and she introduced him to her family.

Sasha, I don't believe in most things that are in those songs. Wow, those songs are horrible. All very tacky.

No, bob, she didn't move. She keeps bringing it and will continue to bring. And her fans are just kids, I can understand when they keep talking about it. Despite being irritating.

I never looked at those pictures of us mag, he knew he was being photographed... But we all make mistakes.

UltraViolet said...

Happy Passover!

Bobbyanna, I think Sasha just means that the photo was surprising. The relationship, for whatever it was worth, has become such a joke that it's hard to remember that there might have been something genuine.

Bobbyanna - I'm really sorry, if I offended you or anyone else here. I really didn't mean to cause a riot, it's just as UV said, after all the negative headlines, it was a surprise to see them in a picture like that.

And in my mind, Jake must have at least liked her, when he considered (fake-)dating her. She had made songs about her exes before, he knew what he was potentially getting into.

Also the fact, that everybody still brings Jake up, when talking about Taylor, tells me something about his level of fame too. If writers believed that Harry or Connor or any of her other exes were better known by the general public than Jake, he wouldn't be the first they mention.

I do get the hint though and will keep GB Tay-Tay free from now on. ;-)

It's not a joke: Big Gay Ice Cream

From wikipedia: BGIC

UltraViolet said...

It's the name of the store, LML. The founders are having fun with the double meaning of the word. From Wikipedia:

The "gay" in the name of the truck has a double meaning, referring to the sexual orientation of co-founders Doug Quint and Bryan Petroff, as well as simply "happy". According to Quint: "If I weren't gay, I wouldn't call it the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. And if I weren't happy, I wouldn't have the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. It would just be the big crabby ice cream truck."[2]
