Happy Birthday, Fans

Look - Jake did remember! Thanks for the birthday present!

GyllenBabble is a year old. And Jake Gyllenhaal was kind enough to wish us a happy birthday. Sort of. Just close your eyes and pretend he's saying our name!

Thanks to FL for suggesting the blog and for co-everything-ing since day one. Thanks to Stephanie/IHJ for giving us our Jake fix. Special thanks to suvee for her great memory! And thanks to all of you who contribute links and laughs and conversation in the true spirit of being a fan and having fun.

I took a trip down memory lane to find some favorite posts, titled in the spirit of "Friends:"

The one with the coincidences

The one with Mastercard

  5. Happy Birthday Gyllenbabble you are great entertainment and congratulations on this one year.
I wanted to say this in the other post but got side tracked. I would like to congratulate Reese on the success of 4C's. She almost single handedly promoted this movie to success (although some people want to blame her for the absence of Vince Vaughn during promotion).

  8. Congratulations UV & FL!!! I love this place, thanks for making this blog so fun! This popped up this morning in my google mail:

The recipient for Style Café Moms most recent basket was Reese Witherspoon. This basket included items not only for Reese, but for her children as well as Jake Gyllenhaal. The basket was a success for Style Café Moms as well as the participants

  9. Morning, all. And thanks again for the good wishes. Hope everyone has a piece of cake on us!

Does Liz Smith actually have gossip?

JAKE GYLLENHAAL, all pumped-up and studly, is still shooting Disney's "Prince of Persia" in London. But his 28th birthday is on Dec. 19, and Jake's beloved, Reese Witherspoon, had planned a lavish party for him in LA. Both stars, who are super-professional, know the importance of keeping to schedule, so they didn't hold much hope of being "together" on Jake's natal day - at least not as Reese had planned.

Good work is rewarded, however. The studio said, "Go, have a blast!" The 19th is a Friday, and Jake will probably be back in his prince costume by Monday morning, the 22nd.

Thanks for the information, Nicole and UV.
The footage of his film are long.

  14. Happy birthday Gyllenbabbale and we got some new pics of Jake!!!

Well it looks like he still is shooting Pop, hopefully that will quiet the "concerned" where is Jake posters, LOL!! If Liz Smith's gossip is correct he will be home for his b-day, not sure about Christmas unless he gets a two week brea.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I know it's from IMDB, but after reading Liz Smith's column, i'm wondering if BS contact was off on the dates or there was a last minute chang, it is a big production. A two week break from 12/19 1/2 maybe?:

"I think they've done all their location footage, and they're probably still in the studio.

I reckon they will take breaks for Christmas and New Year's so probably sometime during January I reckon."

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY GYLLENBABBLE!!!

  16. Wow, so Liz actually had some real information! And she does seem to love Jake and Reese, so thanks, Liz!

And thanks to Nicole for the heads=up. Hope everyone enjoys their cake :)

  17. When you said Liz Smith, I did think you were referring to this woman

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0809131/

and was wondering when she got added to the PoP castlist. I can be a bit thick on occasions in case you hadn't notice :o

So, still in London then and it looks like a bit longer for him to keep completely avoiding me

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is a lovely, memorable posting! Thanks again, UV/FL it's been a lot of fun.

Last night I was rooting thru WENN Photos to see if there was any clue at all about Jake. :) :)Jennifer Aniston had a big Christmas party at her newly renovated house Sunday. Toby Maguire and his wife, lots of other people were there, so I wondered if Jake and Reese might have gone.

My, what a long shoot. I guess they still have loose ends to tie up. Maybe Jake's part will be finished in time for his B'day and the rest of the PoP stuff won't include him.

I realize PoP is a vast undertaking, but still... glad Reese's mom is there for her and she is occupied with the kids and with getting ready for Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'll have a piece of carrot cake in honor of gyllenbabble's birthday!

Thanks again for this blog and how nice of Jake to make an appearence today! He looks good, and you are right bobbyanna this is a long shoot. I wonder if Disney wants to make sure there are no loose ends in case there is an actor's strike?

Thanks to Liz Smith we know at least he will be home for his birthday, maybe it will be extended to the following week, Christmas. Don't film productions normally close down for the holidays?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Happy birthday! Congratulations on a really great blog.

I would be very surprised if Jake went back to work on the 22nd, most studios/production companies have the holidays off, including Disney. I bet he and the crew get 2 weeks off.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Liz Smith's column is one of the few things that's credible in the NY Post.

    Happy Birthday, Gyllenbabble!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Iwas going to post the same thing anon about the NY Post and Smith!

Happy Birthday gyllenbabble and many more, thanks UV & FL and I am so happy Jake showed up today!

I hope too that his birthday break extends to the holidays.

  23. Sorry to bring sad news, but Mark Ruffalo's brother has died. He was shot last week. Mark is friends with Jake and Reese and has worked with both of them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Happy Anniversary.

The one thing that strikes me as strange about the Liz Smith article is why would Jake have to go back on December 22nd? That's Christmas week. Are they making him work over Christmas?

If he isn't working, is it possible that Liz Smith spoiled a potential surprise birthday party for Jake?

I love your site, by the way.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I heard abiut the sad news regarding Mark Ruffalo's brother. What horrible news, my thoughts and prayers go out to Mark and his family.

Well longtime lurker, Liz did say he probably will be back in costume by Monday maybe not realizing that is Christmas week and he will be off that week like most other actors. I bet he already had the holiday off but wanted to start a few days early because his b-day is on the 19th so Disney said "go ahead and take the holiday break a few days early"!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have a feeling Jake will be in London alone over Christmas.
I wonder if filming will last until next summer 2009 or spring 2009

Reese already said she is spending Christmas at her ranch with the kids, so she won't be in London for Christmas

    ReplyDelete
  27. This holiday is a bust for Jake
He gets no time off, no time to Christmas shop, no time to decorate a tree with the kids, no time to chill and attend holiday parties

    pftttttt.......

    ReplyDelete
  28. Welcome, Longtime Lurker! Glad you're enjoying the place :)

We're just going to have to wait to see if Jake has to go back. Maybe it will depend on how things go before then. But yes, I hope he gets to spend some holiday time at home.

Very sad news about Mark Ruffalo's brother. Such a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I feel bad, Jake might be spending Christmas in London alone
while Reese and the kids are at her ranch
    sounds bleak, what a bust!

That hurts to think he could be alone on Christmas

    ReplyDelete
  30. Just want to wish gyllenbabble happy birthday again, glad Jake was able to put in an appearence.

I had a feeling Jake was still working but I'm pretty sure he will get at least Christmas week off, most if not all productions are shut down during the holidays.

BS in the beginning specualted that there was a possiblity that the cast may have to go back in January to do some CG stuff. With a production this big I doubt that 12/3 was a hard date for completion.

I hope Liz didn't let the cat out of the bag!

What horrible news about Mark Ruffalo's brother. My condolences to Mark and the family.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm going to go all fangirl here twice: He looks great, and I like his hair that length, I really hope that he keeps it that way for awhile after he finishes.

Fangirl moment #2: Gray and Black, the same colors Reese has been wearing lately, I know but can't help it.

I do hope that Liz Smith just had the birthday info,i'm pretty sure that production will get a Holiday break.

Congratulations on your one year anniversary gyllenbabble, and thanks a bunch FL and UV for this blog!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm not at all worried about Jake. I'm pretty sure he has worked out his time off arrangements contractually, before he signed up for PoP.

And I'm betting that dinner with the producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, that he and Reese attended a few months back certainly helped worked out what ever glitches might come up.

I just don't see any reason to be overly concerned. Liz Smith might have be right up to a point, but not entirely...and this alleged birthday party has my imagination working over time...as usual:) Maybe the "surprise" isn't his birthday at all, but what happens AT his birthday party...:):):)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree bobbyanna, he is the star of Pop, i'm sure he wil be getting time off for the Holidays.

My condolences to the Ruffalo family, what a terrible thing to have happened to aloved one.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I just think that if Jake were faced with working over Christmas, he wouldn't bother to come home for his birthday, but would come for Christmas instead, if he had the choice. OR: Reese would be going over there for his B'day, and probably bringing the kids for an English Christmas. Jake is very close to those kids and wouldn't want to miss Christmas with them. It might be that this is their first Christmas all together, as more then just a holiday visit.

As for this party thing, I have this feeling that she is planning this huge Christmas/Hannukha celebration, Jake's Birthday, etc. at the ranch. His family and friends, her family and friends...very convenient...:)
(yes, I'm hearing bells ringing, and they're not sleigh bells!)

  35. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GYLLENBABBLE

    ReplyDelete
  36. Seriously don't think he'll be flying back for the 22nd Dec, there's no way on earth you'd get a British crew working over Christmas, the pay they'd demand would probably bankrupt the studio :o

I'd imagine he's off on the Friday, and if he's coming back it won't be until the New Year, and just to point out, Reese is still wearing THAT RING!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well done UV/FL! You have filled the gap left by JakeWatch and that is high praise: I loved that site. Good humour, lots of laughs, lots of Jake, no nastiness and a brisk way of dealing with passing trolls.

The idea of a British film crew working over Christmas is good for a laugh! I'm sure there is no need to weep over the hypothetical Jake!Alone!AtChristmas! :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. The idea of a British film crew working over Christmas is good for a laugh!

Not a hope in hell of that happening, if he's off on the 19th he'll be home from Christmas I'm certain, I'm finishing on the 19th myself, knocking off at noon for a long boozy Chrismas office lunch =D and not back until 5th January (and that thought is the only thing keeping me from killing a couple of my more insane clients at the moment)

  42. Special thanks to suvee for her great memory!

In the interest of full disclosure, I had, um, a little help remembering. A few weeks ago I was trying to remember a J & R sighting in SF when she was filming 4C..... I scrolled back through the GB archives until I found what I was looking for. That's when I noticed that 12/8 was GB's DOB. So, my memory had some help!

And how cool is it that Mr. G made a public appearance for GB's special day, and looking mighty fine, too. Coincidence or a thoughtful present for us Babblers? :)

Just finished my new issue of Newsweek..... found this little surprise in the "Newsmakers" feature. It's from an interview with Rufus Wainwright.

Q: Do you have lots of famous friends?

A: I do. Elton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Reese Witherspoon.

Thanks for the Liz Smith report. Love the idea of Reese throwing him a big birthday bash.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I love Rufus!
He was in Brazil earlier this year. He's a lovely artist and a very funny person.

  44. Happy birthday, Gyllenbabble!!! Thank you UV and FL for all the awesomeness that you give us here! And thanks to everyone here who makes this such a cool place to be for our Jake/Reese fix. :D

And YES new pics of Jake for the occasion....woohoo! He looks gorgeous and those eyes are popping blue. He has the best baby blues....swoon. So sexy and cute at the same time. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Suvee, you still get the credit for remembering something from a few weeks ago this week!

Good to see some old faces - and thanks again for all the nice words.

I do love the idea of Reese putting on a big splash for Jake's birthday, so I hope that does happen.

And extra, it was fun to see you go all fan girl :)

  52. Just for laughs Lainey from yesterday with:

    "Jakey did it first
He started wearing that black beanie in the summer to cover that long hair from Prince of Persia. Robert Pattinson wears one all the time too. Based solely on this observation, let’s start a rumour that they are secret gay lovers… because the other ones are just as flimsy.

Here’s Jakey G in London last night after eating at Scotts restaurant. Seriously. Is the Prince of Persia the longest shoot in the history of Hollywood, or what? He’s been there forever, no doubt eager to return home to Reese in LA.

Am told they are solid. Very much in love, very secure, no drama, and she was a dream for him during a tough year with Heath Ledger’s death and his parents’ recent divorce. Happy yes. Getting married? No. Gay? Also no."

In case you are wondering why she snarks away about creating a rumor, some purchasable PR hack claimed that Lainey and Just Jared are bought by PR.
    Pot calling kettle black.
UV or FL feel free to delete if you want to. Just thought it was funny.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Little late to the table, but wanted to thank you all for your kind words and wishes on our first blog anniversary.

It's been fun/stressful/rewarding/frustrating at times - and that's just the trying to be creative part. You've all been a joy to read over the last year. So thanks for that. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  54. It has been a year - unbelievable.

Congrats to UV and FL for the hard work and making this place fun and enjoyabale for us.

I bought the Joy-magazine today. Reese was interviewed by a german correspondent named Francis Schoenberger. They have a picture of her and Frances. The other pictures are some from London and Paris and them jogging and leaving the yoga group in LA.
She also talked about the first visits at the parents (I don´t think this was mentioned before)

"Have you been nervous meeting Jakes parents for the first time?

Of course, such a thing is stressy (laughing) - One wants to leave a good impression. I was always good in things like that. It is exciting becoming acquainted with the family of your partner and to learn and understand how he was growing up.

"And how was the visit at your family?

Less funny. One never knows which stories they are talking and that can be horribly awkward. My parents have an embarrassing picture-wall with old pictures of me. Those when I am 14 are especially bad."

"Is this an engagement ring at your hand?

No. it is just decorative jewelry."

(Sorry for the shitty translation, I tried my best :-)

It is great to see Jake again - I don´t know how long the shootings will take or if Liz Smith is right or if he has to go back to more filming in January but the delay of the film makes perfect sense to me now. This is such a huge production and I am happy they are taking their time.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thank you Gabbana, Reese certainly likes to wear the same decorative jewelry all the time:)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ooh, Gabbana - thank you!

Is the part that we discussed in the last post, about the possibility of them marrying ands Jake being the merry/marrying :) kind. Or about Jake being the "best Daddy"?

What a fun interview. She refers to Jake as her partner, and talks about meeting the 'rents! Good times.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yes, UV, "Jake best daddy of the world" and "marriage" are part of the questions.

    I forgot this one:

"You were very young when you became a mother for the first time. Do you want more children?

Who knows....I try being open instead making plans - which then don´t turn out the way you expect."

BTW, the critics for 4C are much better here than I expected. Most critics like the film as "funny" with some "anarchic" elements.

    ReplyDelete
  58. It is exciting becoming acquainted with the family of your partner and to learn and understand how he was growing up.

I'm glad Reese is inquisitive like that. Too often I will ask different friends about their boyfriends/husband's youth and they haven't a clue. Don't get that.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hello - is this thing on? :)

Thanks, gabbana. I really appreciate your information. It seems like a great interview. I'm glad the German reporter wasn't shy about asking personal questions.

And FL, I also loved Reese's answer about discovering how Jake grew up. And I sympathize with her embarrassment at her own stories!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Thanks for the translation gabbanna! I'm glad the interviewer pressed with the personal questions too!

Love the bit abot Rufus too, thanks suvee.

  61. SAG strike update:

LOS ANGELES, DECEMBER 10, 2008 -- Screen Actors Guild today announced that strike authorization ballots will be mailed to paid-up SAG members on Friday January 2, 2009, and will
be tabulated on Friday, January 23.

A yes vote by 75% of members voting is required to pass the measure, which would authorize SAG's national board of directors to call a strike, if and when the board determines it is necessary.

    www.deadlinehollywood.com

Hopefully Jake will be done with Pop by January. There still is very little support among SAG members for this strike.

    ReplyDelete
  62. PS: I don't know of any production co. that will be filming Christmas week: 12/22, so I assume that when Jake comes home for his birthday, he will stay for Christmas week at least, he may return the 29th to finish . Disney must be getting a bit antsy with a strike looming(even though there is no support for it).

  64. Thanks for the information about the Golden Globes. I find it quite remarkable that Philip Seymour Hoffman and Heath are both nominated in the same category again...tho, this time there will be a different outcome...(we live in hope!)

No matter the outcome, Heath's movie broke all kinds of records with "people " support. They're re-releasing TDK in theatres in January so it can break into the billion dollar club.

Slumdog Millionaire has been generating a lot of positive buzz recently, so I'm going to have to try and see it. I have a strong feeling the Best Actor Oscar will go to Brad Pitt this year. The Best Actress category for Drama this year is very strong!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thanks for posting the GG noms, I was really busy today and didn't get a chance to check.

Yeah, I noticed that Heath and Phillip are nominated in the same catagory again but I have a feeling that the outcome will be different this time around. The DVD release of TDK has smashed all records for sales.

Surprised to see Franco nominated for Pinapple express but not Milk and very surprised that Milk didn't get a best picture nod.

Happy to see that they remembered In Bruges and Colin Farrel, I really liked that movie.

I plan on seeing Slumdog Millionaire this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  66. There's another round of rumors Reese is you know that thing we are not saying. It's just the dress, and her terrible posture, but....

    ReplyDelete
  67. I enjoyed In Bruges, too, chica! On second thought, looking at the Best Actor - Drama category, there are some strong performances there. Sean Penn has been getting universal raves for Milk and there's Leo in Revolutionary Road. I know Frank Langella gives a fine performance, but he just doesn't "work" as Nixon for me. Have no idea about The Wrestler, and Mickey Rouke. I agree, James Franco was surpirsing as a comedy nominee!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Sorry I'm late in thanking gabbana for sharing that great Reese interview..... I loved it! And even though I just assumed that J & R had met each other's parents, it's still nice to hear her openly talk about it.

I love our international network of Babblers, ever vigilant for Jake info! I'm probably not objective, but I think we have a wonderful group of posters here, regulars and otherwise. So thanks to all!

The 3 movies I'm most looking forward to are Slumdog Millionaire, Milk and Benjamin Button...... hoping to see Slumdog this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Slumdog millionare is on my must see list also!

Thanks from me too Gabanna for the translation of Reese's interview, love hearing about meeting the parents.

  71. I would love to vote on that People poll but the linky is stinky!

Hi Bobbyanna, I see that you are a fan of In Burges too! I loved that film, it got lost when it was released.

Penn was great in Milk, and he is the front runner for best actor IMO. And I feel the same way about Langella as Nixon too, a good performance but he wasn't Nixon to me, Anthony Hopkins did a better job of in the Stone movie Nixon.

Why is it everytime an actress wears a puffy dres or is a bit bloated pregnancy rumors start?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Reese's project with Ben Stiller has been "postponed". Thank Gawd for that: he's a wooden leading man. She says her next will be for James L. Brooks. I love Terms of Endearment too!

  73. Thanks Narcissa!
IMO, I hope it's postponed indefinately, it sounded really lame. I like Brooks, and it sounds like filming will start in the spring.

There is a lot of buzz about Monsters vs Aliens.

  74. Thank god, I can't stand Ben Stiller, although he is one step above Adam Sandler (I fear if I was ever to meet him I'd be compelled to punch him, very hard :o )

  75. I hope that film never sees the light and if it does, i hope Reese's name is no longer attached to it.

It sounded like crap, I want tosee her in more intersting/edgier stuff.

Thanks for the link to the poll!!!

  76. Wow it's so quite here, anyway is Jake filming a trilogy of PoP or is it the longest shoot in history, it's been over 5 months now hasn't it?.

  77. Yes it's quiet everywhere! If Liz Smith is correct he should be home next week, his birthday is coming up.

  78. With the Crowe film on the backburner and Reese scheduled to start filming the new James L. Brooks film in the spring, it looks like Jake and Reese will have a nice little break after the long Pop shoot:

Thanks for the translation of the Reese interview gabanna!

  79. An interview with one of Jake's co-stars from Pop, Gisli Orn Gardarsson, it just says that Gisli will finish with Pop this month:

  81. "is Jake filming a trilogy of PoP or is it the longest shoot in history, it's been over 5 months now hasn't it?."

Five months isn't ridiculously long for a tentpole. Principal photography for The Dark Knight took about five months. Lawrence of Arabia took over a year to film, as did Lord of the Rings. I'm sure there are many other examples. A less happy example would be Australia, which clocked in at about nine months.

  82. I don't think Jake is shooting anything more then the first installment. Once they determine how successful it is, they will probably shoot parts two and three together, so it will be an even longer shoot. But at least a lot of props and sets are built now so it mightn't be so difficult.

  83. Hi there, folks. Saw 4C this afternoon, and it was more fun than some people around here had apparently :)

Also, just a note - if you have a long list like the one SAG Actor just posted or the Golden Globes nominations above, please just post a link. It just makes it easier for scrolling and spacing.

Even if you can['t make a hyperlink, just put the RL and whatever the relevant bit of info is.

Thanks for the info SA - I'll repost it with a link.

    Good holdover for 4C:

  85. I saw 4C too and thought that it was funny! I needed to laugh this weekend.

Nice hold for 4C, I thought that The Day the earth stood still would be a bit higher($$$).

  86. I'm not going to see 4C until next weekend..... but I'm thinking it will be the perfect way to start to my Cmas holiday.

Glad to hear from you, UV. I was wondering if you were suffering from no power. We had a terrible snow/ice storm here about 8 years ago..... no electricity for 4 1/2 days..... first week of February, high temp was 22 degrees. All hotels were booked, but I couldn't leave anyway because of my dogs and cats. By the 4th day, honest to God, you could see your breath in my house. It was one of those experiences that only reinforced my belief that I would NOT have been a good pioneer woman. :)

I'll say it..... I am looking forward to seeing Jake back home this week.

  87. I think a lot of people do want a laugh, chica. It was pretty crowded for a movie that's been out a few weeks. I think it's the only comedy out there or one of the few.

And thanks for asking, suvee. Luckily, the ice storms weren't in my immediate area. Seems like a nightmare for those folks. Sounds like it was for you when you went through it.

I would NOT have been a good pioneer woman.

Oh, I hear ya! I think that all the time. We lost our water for a day a few months ago, and I thought that was hard. A day!

And yes, I think we all look forward to Jakes return :)

  88. I love this bit from Kate Winslet regarding asking her husband Sam Mendes questions regarding her Revolutionary Road character:

I had to remind him: 'Don't you remember on Jarhead? Because I was there when Jake [Gyllenhaal] would call you in the evening and you'd talk for two hours on the phone,' " she says. "Even if we were in the middle of a dinner that I'd spent hours cooking, he would take the call. And quite right, too.
