I know, I know, this doesn’t rise to the level of war crime. It’s simply another of those entertainment-world injustices, perpetrated like clockwork at awards-show time. In this case, the offender is the Tony Awards, which airs June 7, and the victim is Jake Gyllenhaal, denied a best-actor nomination for his sterling turn on Broadway this past winter in the terrific British play “Constellations.”
That his co-star, Ruth Wilson, was recognized with a best-actress nod for her equivalent contribution in this adroit two-hander makes the omission all the more silly and glaring. Though I’ll concede this outcome probably kept only Gyllenhaal himself awake at night.
Okay, maybe for, like, one night.
The point is, we who watch and cover these events can, sometimes, develop mighty strong feelings about the awards and the shows that dole them out. (I’ll lay all my cards on the table and declare that Bradley Cooper, star of the season’s overpraised revival of “The Elephant Man,” basically elbowed Gyllenhaal out of his rightful spot.)
Right on!
And I guess Jake's European idyll will have to come to an end this week, if it hasn't already. He's slated to host a DC fund-raiser.
This Spanish article about Everest seems to indicate that Jake didn't show up for a media visit because he was angry about a photo shoot or photos the day before. My Spanish is bad so I can't tell if they are referring to those (nearly) naked photos that appeared or something else.
As UV rightfully said, the article ensures that Jake wasn't during the meeting with the press because the day before those nude pics were leaked and he was angry (the official version was that he felt indisposed). Josh Brolin jokes that Jake's ass is not big deal and it's quite similar to his or John Hawkes's one ,because all of them have their ass frozen at some point or with harness marks.
Brolin also says that the movie is about man vs nature and that we are always gonna lose that battle since we are like ants in comparison . He adds that it's a surviving, spectacle driven drama, in the Gravity line, with a couple of references to Cliffhanger. He hopes that all that tough physical preparation pay it off.
Sorry if it wasn't very accurate, my english clearly is not the best one.
The BmW photos are gorgeous! Read the Esquire interview and it's fascinating, a lot more interesting than some previous interviews. Interesting comments regarding his parents and their experiences in HW.
I agree with the Washington Post and Jake's Tony snub.I didn't see the play but the reviews on his performance were incredible, a real head scratchier.
It's a shame that the Tonys ignored Jake. A true shame, OoNP. it's good to see you!
Thanks for the translation, anon. It's interesting that they said Jake's excuse was that he "was unwell," but it sounds like he really was indisposed. Indisposed to talking to the media.
BJ, Ruth was not better than Jake. Critics agreed, including that Washington Post critic. I'm ha[[y he brought it up again.
I liked this interview, even though I was WTF with the comment about the moon and also a little surprise and oh, no! with the comparison with the Edward Norton's character in Birdman.
50 million accumulative would be pretty good for SP, the first trailer came out 2 months ago and promo efforts have not been consistent. Jake has no social media standing whatsoever. Cringe if you want at his pics with 50 cent but 50 does know how to use social media.
It's a little heartbreaking that Josh Gad's movies have done better than solid box office - way above Jake's movies. I know Josh does comedy but still its heartbreaking. Jake keeps making these great movies but the masses don't see them until years later. Jake does need a box office hit but I don't see how other actors are getting franchises or mainstream roles who do not have any sort of box office pull either.
Most were against the Suicide Squad but I kind of wish Jake would have done it, he would have made the part his and gotten a bigger audience.
Not good what?, it's only a prediction. They predicted San Andreas at 40 and it made 54. 14 milions more. I'm LMAO at predictions. Pixar 57? Adam Sandler? Papertowns 32? I want what the predictors are smoking. Must be good weed.
I do not cringe at Jake's pic with 50 Cent, I like it. The contrast is funny on purpose, only uptight people with no sense of humour cringe. It's a Vanity Fair shoot, I'm sure we'll see different kinds of photos and stances. I'm sure SP will open with more than 14 and amount to 55-60.
Anon 7:31, I don't understand the comparison between Josh and Jake. Josh did voice work in animated film, which in summer will always open first. And this film has a different audience of Southpaw. Star in a comic book movie doesn't mean that everyone will watch your upcoming films. Chris Hemsworth is Thor and people are not going to watch his movies. I agree on increasing his profile, but any comic movie would be very bad for him. Today all these films are with shared universes, so if you're in one, you'll probably be in another and another with little break, preventing you from doing another film between them; or play. It's good $$, but not for someone who is building a great career.
I think it's silly for Jake to turn away from social media. I wish he made better use of it. For every comic book character who's a hit there are also misses. You mention Thor but look at the mess Ryan Reynolds made with Green Lantern. Perception is everything. If your PR team market you aggressively, then you don't get defined by your failures. I think Jake's personal marketing is weak. I'm hoping SP does way better than an opening weekend of $14M. It does not attract the same audience as Adam Sandler's movies. I think they have time to improve on that prediction. I read it to mean that if Southpaw opened today, based on their tracking polls it would do $14M. But it's possible to improve on that in the next few weeks. They just need to be smart about marketing.
JOsh Gad has a good box office record besides the animated movie however that movie has done great things for him and his star is growing. That's all I am saying, he's becoming another one of the go to guys for comedy movies. He got a great break in that animated movie that increased his profile so he could do other non-animated films.
Again I do think 50 million is good for Southpaw and I hope it out does that.
"Chris Hemsworth is Thor and people are not going to watch his movies."
That's the downside of doing those type of movies, Chris is trying desperately to escape that Thor persona but the paychecks are good. He's in the Vacation movie this summer I hear. I don't consider Jake in the same acting league as other actors who are doing comic hero movies and remakes of old classics ( I may be slightly bias a whole lot). I think Jake like Cumberbatch as proven he can act and demonstrate range.
He just bothers me a heck of a lot that Jake does not get the credit he deserves unlike Cumberbatch.
I'm hoping for a mini-breakout hit for Southpaw, but it is anyone's guess at this point. They need to be smarter even than they've been in the marketing.
AwardsWatch did a Cannes podcast, and the enthusiastic Southpaw poster was on it. He really thinks it can break out, but I have no idea what kind of box office expertise he has. He also mentioned that it screened three times in Cannes.
14M at opening weekend? Is that from EOW? I expected more than that. But who knows, it's too early for any predictions. Still no release date for HK or China:(
Well one thing for sure. With Fifty Cent and Rita Ora, and Eminem doing the music, they will attract a broader fanbase. People who might not normally care about it might notice and want to see it. It's a boxing movie. We know Robert De Niro, Russell Crowe, Mark Wahlberg, Denzel Wasington, all did boxing movies. I don't know about their box office, but they all had critical success. I hope Jake's numbers are "respectable" but I don't think he needs to necessarily win the weekend box office to do so well. I think they definitely need to step up the marketing, because $14M is not respectable, IMO. The marketing people have some time to do a better job but they need to get in the game.
Agree about 'Constellations'. Is / was Ruth better than Jake? Er... Bradley Cooper again?!
I wouldn't necessarily say Ruth was better but her part was showier. She had to display a much wider range of emotion throughout the play. But her performance wouldn't have been as good if she was opposite a weak male actor. I think they both needed each other and the chemistry they established in order to make the play effective. Therefore, both deserved nominations, IMO.
Great post as always, UV. The B&W photos are stunning!
Forgot to add: Regarding the b.o. prediction. Pixels has has more marketing. And Paper Towns, which also comes out on July 24th, is based on a popular YA book so it has a built in fan-base already. I still think once Southpaw promotion kicks in during July and with word of mouth the numbers will be better than projected at this point. Hopefully the reviews are excellent which will help.
I don't quite understand why Weinstein hypes Rita Ora's performance in "Southpaw" (Yahoo UK: Jake Gyllenhaal and Harvey Weinstein praise Rita Ora's acting in Southpaw). Apparently it's just a cameo:
Kyle Buchanan (Senior Editor at New York Magazine/Vulture): Rita Ora spends her 30-second SOUTHPAW cameo begging for "a hit." Honestly she's making it too easy at this point
Kyle Buchanan @kylebuchanan The Rita Ora Academy for Pop Divas Who Can't Manage More Than a 30-Second Cameo is proud to welcome Kylie Minogue from SAN ANDREAS
Apparently "Southpaw" closes with Frank Ocean's "Wiseman": Kyle Buchanan @kylebuchanan Tarantino never found a place for Frank Ocean's "Wiseman" in DJANGO but I guess Fuqua has: It's been repurposed as SOUTHPAW's closing song
If you post a link, please give some context. Thanks, FP!
It is a lot of praise for a 30-second cameo. More worryingly, the Vulture guy doesn't seem to have anything to say about the actual movie.
She had to display a much wider range of emotion throughout the play.
To me, it was more that she got the better lines. She gets the final "point of the play" line, and her character has a lot of funny, more outrageous lines. Jake's character is more straitlaced. But I think Roland's range of emotions is just as vast. And Jake negotiated them beautifully.
It's amazing how with the immense talent that jake has he's not at all a selfish actor, always in the service of the show and he always does shine his colleagues
I think it's silly for Jake to turn away from social media. I wish he made better use of it.
I don't know. To me, Jake just doesn't seem to be the social media type. I believe he once said he's no good at "selling himself". Maybe that's how he looks at it, and if so, I understand. I'm not very good at social media myself, so Jake and I seem to have that in common ;) Also, we mustn't forget he's very private. I don't blame him at all - I'd be the same if I was in his shoes, I think.
I think if Jake had a twitter account he'd use it the same way that Maggie and Peter use theirs, which is sporadically. So I don't think that it would make much of a difference even if he did have one.
Source Code hair there, his arms are quite nice. They seems smaller than in POP. That Vulture guy is very snarky toward Rita, like its personal. She gets a lot of criticism but hey Jake is fond of her it appears.
If you want to listen to the new Eminem Southpaw single, here it is: Phenomenal
If jake could embrace social media, it would be fun. But it could also be weird. I think of all the trolls we get, and I can't imagine how bad it would be for a legit Jake account. On the other hand, I'm sure all celebs get lunatics, and they deal with it. But it just doesn't seem like Jake's vibe.
I don't remember reading this account of Jake's Nightcrawler surprise Boston visit. There were so many, I might just be forgetting. But it's fun to visit or revisit.
He just bothers me a heck of a lot that Jake does not get the credit he deserves unlike Cumberbatch.
Cumberbatch has a job on TV which gave him a large fanbase. And being on TV makes the actor more accessible to general audience. Very similar to Clooney. Bennie also picked up a few small roles in big movies, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, voice work on The Hobbit, 12-year-slave, AOC, which helped raise his profile. He is the perfect example of what Bobbyana said on personal marketing. The guy made the cover of TIME few years ago. I don't think we can say that Jake is not receiving credit as well. Ok, he's not Dr. Strange, but he is doing very well in my opinion. He has three films for this year, a musical, was in Cannes, the new film of Tom Ford ... he is doing better than many actors who have a Oscar cof cof cof I don't think he wants to be in an big production only to raise his profile, he did it years ago, I think he is more interested in the history and in what he can do with the character.
Rita Ora spends her 30-second
Only 30 seconds?? lol
You were talking about Josh Cad? Hmm. Thought he was annoying as hell in LAOD. Sorry Josh.
It's not his fault. He is Olaf in Frozen and was in The Book of Mormon. He's a good actor.
"If jake could embrace social media, it would be fun. But it could also be weird. I think of all the trolls we get, and I can't imagine how bad it would be for a legit Jake account."
Exactly. Imagine how many people would go crazy and post all their "gay" comments, like they have been doing for years and years. I'd hate to see that happen.

You got to love 50 cent. He was on GMA just now for another movie Spy that comes out this Friday and he managed to promote Southpaw in the first minute of the interview. LOL.
Seems not everyone is getting the Esquire interview lol Some blogs have published some excerpts from it and the majority of the people is like "WTF" about the moon/molecules talk. Poor Jake.
Piruleta, that Dayna chick from Defamer has a thing for Jake because she doth protest too much. Blogs like Defamer and their owners are the lowest of the pathetic people around. They criticize and piss on everyone and switch things around to get themselves through another day and to earn money.
I agree, Piruleta! I've been reading Dlisted's comments, many are hilarious. There are very few mean comments directed at Jake. It seems like it's done in good humor, ( "I'll have what he's smokin'" ) and many commenters seem to genuinely like Jake.
As long as they understand he looks good in a suit that is all the matters. And we are made of mostly water, one post from Dlist had a good point about women who live together eventual get the same ......which sort of proves Jake's point about molecules.
I have a modicum of sympathy for Jake, because I think the reporter sort of did what Jake was anticipating. On the other hand, I don't really remember reading any Jake hatchet jobs or even overly analytical pieces on him. So I'm not sure why he was so paranoid. And the moon stuff was very babblish. We all know how Jake can ramble, But a very small part of me wonders why the reporter framed things the way he did.
"That seems scientific to me" is a phrase that may haunt him, lol.
It's getting more pickup than I thought it would I never go to Dlisted, but the comments on some other places have a mix of reactions. Definite mockery but a lot of love thrown in there, too.
When he is talking about unconscious and that you accumulate molecules from the space you are in, that's fine with me, also that you absorb something from environment you are in, but why he is talking about moon what is something different sounds weird to me. Now tabloid made an issue from it like time ago with Gwyneth Paltrow and water molecules. I wouldn't laugh that much, because my life philosophy is weird too for someone, but it is not fortunate to put it out to the air for masses. I found it in article so unimportant, but they always find the opportunity to mock actors when they try to be scientific. They are sarcastic all around.
People who want to mock others will do, no matter what. I think it's pretty clear what he was trying to say even if he wasn't very articulate. On video, you can tell he is conscious that he is saying some crazy things when he rambles, but It's true that this quote, by itself, without a context, sounds dumb.
Read this on defamer.
Jake is a very nice guy, if a lot driven while on set. Last year he was quiet but polite and helped me to my feet after my being knocked over. I thanked him and the AD, nick named “Turd Burgler” by the Wardrobe crew, screamed that “no one is to speak to Jake.” Jake turned and glared at Turd. I loved it.
I agree with you Piruleta. A few comments on Dlisted noted that they understood what Jake was trying to say but he just didn't articulate it well and I agree with them too. It could've been phrased differently but as mentioned, Jake does babble at times so I think that's what happened. here. I found some of their comments to be really funny.
I wonder if anyone will ask him about this during Southpaw promotions?
D listed is still around? Much ado about nothing. I hate lazy journalism especially the so-called entertainment media. Repeating the same crapfest ad nasuem, It's gotten worse with social media. The article had some of his usual babble ,not surprised that was picked up.
The estimates for Southpaw seem low imo, I hope that it will have a better opening then those projections.
People who want to mock Jake will find always find something (a quote, the way he looks, the way he dresses, him being too serious, or not serious enough)... you name it. Most of the time I try to ignore it.
I loved the Esquire interview. It's one of the best Jake interviews I've ever read, along with the one for V-Man Magazine (2013), which was published to promote 'Prisoners', I believe.
The tagline ("The most dangerous place on earth") sounds a bit better than before. "And Jake Gyllenhaal" makes his performance look like a cameo. I'm not sure if that's an improvement.
I have seen it happen on numerous occasions where the "bigger" name is listed last as an "and.....". I think it's a compliment to be honest. I think it recognizes that he's the highest profile member of the cast.
It usually does mean a compliment when an actor may not necessarily be the lead actor but whose name is just as big as anyone in the ensemble cast. We all know Jake will die before 1/2 the movie is over.
I don't know if take the "...and jake gyllenhaal" as a compliment, but sure as hell every pic that came out about this movie has Jake and only Jake in it
Am I wrong?
I think it's like the guy who runs the blog My New Red Pnats said, Jake has become a brand to sell as a guarantee of a good movie
Every pic that came out about this movie has Jake and only Jake in it.
Universal uses Jake for marketing purposes. That's for sure.
I wouldn't have recognized him in the third picture of the article above if I didn't know the pictures from the set. I guess we'll just have to look out for the "Mt. Everest" beanie in the movie. ;)
Frankly I think it sucks that the moon story overshadows other more interesting parts of the "Esquire" article.
Well I knew this would happen that someone would eventually write sensibly about jake's theory.
I doubt that Jake's point of view is completely rational. Anna Kendrick once told at a Late Night Show that Jake and David Ayer had discussed moon signs on the set of "End of Watch". ;)
To be honest this moon theory,it's pretty well known in ancient peoples, not exactly in the terms in which Jake put it, but the importance of lunar phases in the harvest or fishing or other activities in life is fairly well known, even the term lunatic comes from the importance that the moon has on our physical,The term comes from Luna = moon in Latin,my mother always says do not cut your hair when the moon is decreasing, because hair will grow more slowly, but there are thousands of these little warnings related to the moon.
An actor may receive "last billing", which usually designates a smaller role played by a famous name.[citation needed] They are usually credited after the rest of the lead cast, prefixed with "and" (or also "with" if there is more than one, as Samuel L. Jackson was in the latter two Star Wars prequels). In some cases, the name is followed by "as" and then the name of the character. - Wikipedia
Some major actors may have a cameo, where they are only noted within the other cast during the end credits. - Wikipedia
Receiving the "and" billing means Jake has less screen time than Jason and Josh but he is too famous to be credited third. His part isn't a cameo. He filmed up the Dolomites, in Rome at Cinecitta and in UK at Pinewood. Keira Knightley filmed only five days, two scenes with Jason.
"Knightley also has a small role in Everest. She plays the pregnant wife of one of the climbers and worked on the film for five days" - Independent.co.uk
The press uses Jake to promote Everest. Same press uses Jake to make people click on every one of their ridiculous news.
I'm interested in how the studio will market Everest, how important Jake is to them. One more reason why SP being a hit is crucial, it will make Universal focus on Jake not just for Everest but for the future.
The visual effects loos great, it shows not only action, but the drama side as well. It seems that Jake will be fun. I would have loved to see this trailer on the big screen for the first time.
No need to apologize, FP. I don't agree. I thought it looked pretty good. Can't wait to see it on the big screen.
The dialogue is cheesy, but I wasn't expecting Shakespeare. And since I've ignored all spoilers, I had no idea Jake's character is a total bro. So that was funny.
I loved it. Great trailer! Agree, monica, The visual effects are really powerful, and that's a great cast for this movie. I think this is going to do very well. I'm excited to see it.
LOL! UV! Yeah, Jake seems to capture Fisher's free spirit.
Jake's look great in the nude scene. I like the international trailer better, more Jake.
I agree with FP that some parts with the phone calls, I won't leave without you Marine talk is kind of cheesy but necessary. The music and cinematography is wonderful. Jake deserves an Oscar for standing nearly naked in freezing temperatures and smiling about it.
Jake deserves an oscar for many reasons I'm just going to adding this one Nudist! :)
I would not be in the place of Jason Clark and Josh Brolin who in reality they the main characters of the film, but social media is not taking nothing of it, Is just Jake Jake Jake and a bit of Kiera
I agree with FP that some parts with the phone calls, I won't leave without you Marine talk is kind of cheesy but necessary.
I think it's problematic that the trailer gives away one of the emotional highlights of the story. Otherwise it looks fine. (Usually disaster movies are not meant to please critics anyway.)
The trailer said what I thought, it will be probably competitor in visual effects and cinematography. I haven't noticed any nude scene there, did I miss something or nudist is referring to those pics? I have to re-watch the trailer.
I find it ridiculous they still push Rita Ora ahead, whilst Forest Whitaker is still not mentioned anywhere, it sounds strange to me. Even those few people who saw the private screening didn't mention anything about him, I still hope and believe there will be some supporting buzz around him. SV
"Jake's look great in the nude scene. I like the international trailer better, more Jake."
Me too.
I'm extremely happy Jake's nude scene is actually in the movie - or at least in the trailer. After all the fuss with the leaked 'nude' pictures from the set, I was kinda expecting that scene to be deleted or whatever.
"Jake deserves an Oscar for standing nearly naked in freezing temperatures and smiling about it."
I'm feeling really optimistic about Everest. Jake is blowing up twitter as the lead marketing focus of the movie, and honestly, I think the whole comic book superhero market is oversaturated, so I'm hoping Everest will do well as something different from that.
Just about the trailer "Jake Gyllenhaal's movie Everest, etc...." no one is saying Jame's Brolin's movie, or Jason Clarke's movie, it's "Jake's movie" LOL! I suppose that will change once journalists start seeing the actual movie, and we will see more balance, but he is definitely the marketing draw..
Jeff Sneider @TheInSneider I love how a movie with the credit "and Jake Gyllenhaal" has been co-opted as "a Jake Gyllenhaal movie." Either way, EVEREST looks awesome!
According to twitter, the SP trailer was being shown during the NBA Finals last night and I think the Beats Commercial with the Eminem song from the film was also being shown.
I do not understand how the Universal is promoting this movie, Jake is in the international poster but if I base myself on the trailer, the role Jake has in the film is not such as to justify his presence,as Jeff Snider rightly said they have turned a film where Jake makes a cameo in "Jake Gyllenhaal's Everest and oh there are also others actors and stuff happening here and there but let's focus in Jake being Jake!" Or,and this would be even more impressive, they did not expect that Jake's presence overshadow everything else, and the reaction of Twitter and social media in general has surprised them as much as we.This is the second time after Cannes, that I see how Jake became the center of attention without even trying.
I agree, Hagen, the second trailer is more effective... and shorter.
I also think Jake's role is more than a cameo in Everest. It's definitely in the supporting category. Scott was a charismatic guy who loved climbing. If we're to feel the loss and the tragedy, we need screen time to get to know him, IMO. He was a well known and accomplished climber who loved what he did. I found a brief biography from his website. I read about him a while ago, but I enjoyed re-discovering him:
"Beginning in 1970, Scott Fischer climbed the world's highest, most challenging peaks and also introduced the intensity and the joy of the mountains to many. He was on Mt. Everest, K2, (both without oxygen) the Matterhorn, El Capitan, Mt. Blanc, Peak Communism and the Diamond Couloir of Mt. Kenya, to name just a few. He was one of less than ten Americans to have summited on K2 and the first American to climb Lhotse, the world’s fourth highest peak. He also made one of the only two successful climbs on the Breach Icicle on Mt. Kilimanjaro.
As a climbing instructor and guide for over 25 years, Scott understood that the discovery and challenge of mountaineering could transform people’s lives. In 1984 Scott founded Mountain Madness. He climbed not only for personal reward, but also to help others. He helped raise funds for both AIDS research and the international relief organization CARE. In 1994 he led a clean-up expedition to Mount Everest (Sagarmatha Environmental Expedition (S.E.E.)) and also reached the summit for his first time."
I judge only by the trailer, in which Jake appears for a few seconds compared to real stars who are Brolin and Clarke, and the difference of perception as if Jake was the one and only protagonist that accompanied the release of the trailer. And it's not like they have not seen the trailer or the poster, the sites of movies have to know that Jake is not the lead , but still it's all a "Gyllenhaal climb, or Gyllenhaal lead or Gyllenhaal fights" If yesterday there was a misunderstanding today there was plenty of time to clear the air and give to Clarke and Brolin due importance, but it's still just Jake.
Thank you Ann, great article. Do you think Jake got hit in the head once too often during the fight scenes? I hope not, sometimes this method acting can be dangerous. Before anybody says it I know Jake wasn't boxing long term but it only takes a hit to the wrong area.
After hearing what he did for Everest and now the real boxing in Southpaw, I think Nightcrawler was a cake walk physically for Jake.
Thank you for this info about Scott Fisher, Bobbyana. It seems he was a great man.
Be careful looking for photos of Scott Fischer or any others who died in the tragedy, someone posted photos of how they were found. Unfortunately I saw Scott Fischer; this is so disrespectful to the family of all them.
I agree that Jake's is more than a cameo, in one of the trailers we see more than one scene, him at the peak of the mountain. The film will show the death scene of his character as the director said. His role is support. Jake is getting media attention, because he is, along with Keira, the most famous from cast. Also because of his recent works.
Nice interview with Fuqua. I don't think there were any more spoilers than what was in the trailer. I have to watch #2 again, but I think I preferred the first one. I made a new post with all the new trailers.
Thanks to everyone for keeping all the news coming!

Somehow I published this but it appeared before later posts. So I've republished. And I'll repeat my comment:
I can't remember if this video was posted.
From the Washington Post theater critic's Tonys wish list:
Jake, you were robbed!
Those pics... sigh. Love em!
Agree about 'Constellations'. Is / was Ruth better than Jake? Er... Bradley Cooper again?!
I hope someone is able to translate that Spanish article for us.
Perhaps Jake is back in the U.S. From 50 Cent:
I had to clean up catch me jake Gyllenhaal, and Antoine Fuqua's SOUTH PAW SHOOT.
I'm shooting for Vanity fair today #Nodaysoff all I do Is
50 was in Jersey yesterday - at a polo match. So I'm guessing NY, but who knows where the shoot was.
https://instagram.com/p/3XEknhsL97/
oh gawwd!
Great pic, funny too. Both Jake and 50 have a great sense of humor. They'll have a lot of fun during SP marketing campaign.
50cent dressed like a white baseball fan. Jake dressed like a black rapper.
ROTFL
We're in for a fun photo shoot with best buddies.
50 cents and Jake are in NJ at that Polo event, Maggie and Ruth are there too.
Jake,50 cents, Maggie and Ruth are all in NJ at the Polo event
I liked this interview, even though I was WTF with the comment about the moon and also a little surprise and oh, no! with the comparison with the Edward Norton's character in Birdman.
Box Office prediction for Southpaw.
Not good Monica
I see Maggie, Ruth and 50 Cent at the polo event but I haven't seen any photos of Jake there.
The photo with 50Cent is hilarious. Jake looks good, if a bit ridiculous.
This site asked people to choose between 50 and Jake. Jake is the overwhelming winner, lol
Tony Awards? Are those still on this year, I thought w/o Jake and Neil Patrick Harris hosting that they called it off.
Kyle Buchanan @kylebuchanan
The Rita Ora Academy for Pop Divas Who Can't Manage More Than a 30-Second Cameo is proud to welcome Kylie Minogue from SAN ANDREAS
Apparently "Southpaw" closes with Frank Ocean's "Wiseman":
Kyle Buchanan @kylebuchanan
Tarantino never found a place for Frank Ocean's "Wiseman" in DJANGO but I guess Fuqua has: It's been repurposed as SOUTHPAW's closing song

Jake in NY?
Caroline Smith @thecaro_smith 1h NY
98% sure I just saw Jake Gyllenhaal on the street and if I did I can 100% confirm that he is even cuter in person
We made eye contact and he gave me an adorable little smirk. Wedding invites coming soon.
You were talking about Josh Cad? Hmm. Thought he was annoying as hell in LAOD. Sorry Josh.
I agree with you BlueJean.

LOL.

I saw a couple of those references. Could it be just a taped interview from Cannes?
Photos on IHJ of Jake at a party for Chris Fischer, who's written a cookbook.
And LOL at 50 Cent. Thanks, anon 9:48. He is something else!
FP, that's what June 1 looked like in the northeast. Brr.
Dlisted and Celebitchy are talking about it, too. I'm not taking the comments seriously, btw, in fact I found some of them quite funny.
LOL, it could.
lol I was expecting this reaction after I read that quote. It was really WTF 😜
On the other hand, I don't really remember reading any Jake hatchet jobs or even overly analytical pieces on him.
Because of it Q & A format is better.
In other Jake news, from Rope Silicon:
Demolition
Rated R For language, some sexual references, drug use and disturbing behavior.
Release Date: TBA 2015
When he is talking about unconscious and that you accumulate molecules from the space you are in, that's fine with me, also that you absorb something from environment you are in, but why he is talking about moon what is something different sounds weird to me. Now tabloid made an issue from it like time ago with Gwyneth Paltrow and water molecules. I wouldn't laugh that much, because my life philosophy is weird too for someone, but it is not fortunate to put it out to the air for masses. I found it in article so unimportant, but they always find the opportunity to mock actors when they try to be scientific. They are sarcastic all around.
Now he looks silly, for silly people though. SV
LOL! Compared to Matthew McConaughey, Jake is just fine.
"LOL! Compared to Matthew McConaughey, Jake is just fine"
Well then compared to

James Franco
Clint Eastwood
Robert Downey JR
Alec Baldwin
Jared Leto
And so on and so on, lol

This makes more sense now: First Everest poster.
"And Jake Gyllenhaal"
Film Stage says the trailer comes tomorrow/
People Magazine also tweeted this: Get the inside scoop on Jake Gyllenhaal's upcoming movie 'Everest' on PEOPLE Now! http://peoplem.ag/5vqbRyc
But the video doesn't work.
Might just be a rehash of the Esquire comments - who knows?
Update: Story here.
I think it recognizes that he's the highest profile member of the cast.
yay trailer tomorrow!! So excited! 😄
"think it's a compliment to be honest."
It usually does mean a compliment when an actor may not necessarily be the lead actor but whose name is just as big as anyone in the ensemble cast. We all know Jake will die before 1/2 the movie is over.
Best for last IMO.
Everest" beanie in the movie. ;)
Well I knew this would happen that someone would eventually write sensibly about jake's theory. I expect more will feel the same.
http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/jake-gyllenhaal-full-moon-06032015-kids-labor-behavior/
"And Jake Gyllenhaal" makes his performance look like a cameo. I'm not sure if that's an improvement.
To me, it's better than his name being listed behind Jason Clarke and James Brolin, IMO. That's all I was referring to.
The full moon theories have been debunked in a lot of places. But it's good that not everyone is mocking Jake :)
Ttaht's correct to me anon
But still they use Jake and only Jake to promote the movie.
That's weird
The press uses Jake to promote Everest. Same press uses Jake to make people click on every one of their ridiculous news.
I'm interested in how the studio will market Everest, how important Jake is to them. One more reason why SP being a hit is crucial, it will make Universal focus on Jake not just for Everest but for the future.

Just saw this: Everest trailer.
Meh
Two different trailers. Another trailer: Everest oficial trailer
It looks great!
Was just about to post that one, Monica :)
It looks cheesy and shit, JMO
Uhm I'm sorry,I guess, usually I'm more diplomatict lol
Oh God let's SP happen please
It's your opinion.
The visual effects loos great, it shows not only action, but the drama side as well. It seems that Jake will be fun.
I would have loved to see this trailer on the big screen for the first time.
Everest trailer>> Southpaw trailer 😙
No need to apologize, FP. I don't agree. I thought it looked pretty good. Can't wait to see it on the big screen.
The dialogue is cheesy, but I wasn't expecting Shakespeare. And since I've ignored all spoilers, I had no idea Jake's character is a total bro. So that was funny.
I don't know it look like a 90' movie, but Jake is beautiful :)
The international trailer is much better.
Can't wait to see this in IMAX-3D!
Jake does seem to be the focus on social media, considering he has less screen time in trailer than the two leads.
LOL! Hell yeah! :)))
I'm feeling really optimistic about Everest. Jake is blowing up twitter as the lead marketing focus of the movie, and honestly, I think the whole comic book superhero market is oversaturated, so I'm hoping Everest will do well as something different from that.
YES! Finally! It looks good! Not enough Jake, tho lol
"Jake is blowing up twitter"
I'm not on Twitter. What are they saying? Is it good or bad?
Just about the trailer "Jake Gyllenhaal's movie Everest, etc...." no one is saying Jame's Brolin's movie, or Jason Clarke's movie, it's "Jake's movie" LOL! I suppose that will change once journalists start seeing the actual movie, and we will see more balance, but he is definitely the marketing draw..
Jeff Sneider @TheInSneider
I love how a movie with the credit "and Jake Gyllenhaal" has been co-opted as "a Jake Gyllenhaal movie." Either way, EVEREST looks awesome!
Great Everest trailer can't wait.Love the black and white pics thanks UV.
Tks a lot , UV! Great trailers! Hope it'll release in China or HK

jake with Wes Anderson??
The Internet is exploding! The responses are mostly positive, I love the trailer:)
Luv the noir photos from Cannes UV!!
According to twitter, the SP trailer was being shown during the NBA Finals last night and I think the Beats Commercial with the Eminem song from the film was also being shown.
International poster of "Everest"
I do not understand how the Universal is promoting this movie, Jake is in the international poster but if I base myself on the trailer, the role Jake has in the film is not such as to justify his presence,as Jeff Snider rightly said they have turned a film where Jake makes a cameo in "Jake Gyllenhaal's Everest and oh there are also others actors and stuff happening here and there but let's focus in Jake being Jake!"
Or,and this would be even more impressive, they did not expect that Jake's presence overshadow everything else, and the reaction of Twitter and social media in general has surprised them as much as we.This is the second time after Cannes, that I see
how Jake became the center of attention without even trying.
I had not realized Jake's popularity grew so much
I'm a little surprised
When did it happen? lol
‘Southpaw’ Second Trailer & Poster Starring Jake Gyllenhaal http://redcarpetcrash.com/southpaw-trailer-starring-jake-gyllenhaal/ …
Is that new?
looks the same to me
I don't remember seeing that trailer before. I think it's much better than the original one they released. Thanks for posting that FP. :)
Some new shots in the second trailer. Jake is everywhere!
They have turned a film where Jake makes a cameo in "Jake Gyllenhaal's Everest"
It's a supporting role, but certainly more than just a cameo. (And I don't think he will die before half the movie is over like someone else wrote.)
I like the second "Southpaw" trailer better than the first one. It gives you an idea what the movie is about without telling the whole story.
And it's not like they have not seen the trailer or the poster, the sites of movies have to know that Jake is not the lead , but still it's all a "Gyllenhaal climb, or Gyllenhaal lead or Gyllenhaal fights"
If yesterday there was a misunderstanding today there was plenty of time to clear the air and give to Clarke and Brolin due importance, but it's still just Jake.
Interview with Antoine Fuqua and new poster for SP. I love the poster! Antoine talks about the spoilers in the trailer. Pretty interesting.
http://www.ew.com/article/2015/06/05/southpaw-poster-exclusive
