Ice Cream Social

Jake Gyllenhaal enjoys an ice cream and a stroll with An Enemy costar Sarah Gadon on Friday.

Apropros of nothing: Some random cartoon Jake found on the interwebs:

The New Yorker and cartoons remind me of this. Though the review wasn't positive, I've always loved this drawing:

I didn't remember this one, for Rendition:

Deadline doesn't think EoW belongs at Comic-Con:

Still, Open Road’s End of Watch may be the most poorly chosen for a panel. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena in a South Central L.A. cop drama from David Ayer, writer of Training Day. It may well be fine for what it is, but people want escapism at this show, and a brutally realistic look at the mean streets of anywhere doesn’t fit the bill.

EoW will have an audio track for the blind

Jake's t-shirt matches the color of his sneakers, but I think there's still room for improvement. ;)

"Needs more Jake Gyllenhaal butt."
LOL, we might get more of his butt in "An Enemy".

Obviously the producers saw something in the film they thought Comicon attendees would enjoy. Jake's had a good experience there before.

Nice photos. Sarah Gaddon lives in TO and is still taking classes at the U of TO in Cinema Studies.

I don't think a Jake film has ever been at ComicCon before. Are you thinking WonderCon in San Francisco and Source Code?

Gosh that ice cream looks yummy, just like the guy carrying it :D

I wonder when the last day of shooting will be.

Oops, maybe so, Rachel. I keep thinking Jake did more than one. : )

Comic Con is for things related to comics and geek world. I'm also wondering why take End of Watch for Comic Con.

He looks good in these pictures.

I loved the bag and shoes of Sarah Gadon.

UV, I love that the New Yorker is such a Jake fan! :) Don't remember the Rendition art either.

Bah, Federer won! boring!

Cute story about what to wear when you run into Jake Gyllenhaal in Toronto.

SLIT MY WRISTS JAKE GYLLENHAAL CAME INTO FRESH AND I WASN'T WORKING :(

Never find something that someone is Great at as boring. Glad Federer won.

Federer is a great player but he's a bit mechanical and too aristocratic like. I wish Andy would have won because he has raw emotion, more like the everyday guy and it would have been great for Great Britain. I prefer Dojo and Rafe to Federer, and Rafe once he gets healthy will win more majors than Federer.

UltraViolet said...

I like all of the big three, but Federer is my favorite. Style, elegance and generally good sportsmanship, though he has had his moments.

Very happy to see Federer win today, but sad for Murray. His remarks after the match were poignant.

Hagen, I hope you are correct about An Enemy!

That was a cute blog post from Coveted Classics. I also laughed at the tweet from her friend:

I can't stop thinking of my jake gyllenhaal siting yesterday with @covetedclassics I froze like I was the world champ of frozen tag! haha!

Can't remember if that was posted yesterday.

I feel bad for the Terroni bottom line once JAke leaves the city:

Delicious dinner at Terroni tonight with @bielleross. I love Lambrusco. And walking past Jake Gyllenhaal while leaving wasn't bad either.

Also, the Red Sox are horrible this year.

Nothing new, but the reactions are funny:

Saw Jake Gyllenhal walking down Queen St. West last night and may or may not have slightly stalked him down the street until he threw us a dirty look..

hhhhhoooohhhh boy, the things i would do to that man.

I just had an orgasm.

He's apparently been filming some scary/horror movie in Oshawa... May have done a few drive bys :)

Soooooo jealous

BAHHHH

And ugh. He-who-can-do-no-wrong Fassbender has apparently been announced for a new video game movie adaptation, so we are getting a flood of Jake/PoP stories.

It would have been great if Murray would have one, it would have been the 1st Brit to win in ages but
I'm a big fan of Federer, congrats!

I loved that New Yorker Pop cartoon, yeah that didn't like the movie. Haven't seen the rest before, thanks for posting them UV!

It's a good thing Jake stayed in TO, it was as hot as hell here in NY over the weekend: (

Sigh....I just want to hear more about Jake's project rumors....no matter what kind of movies.

I do not know what to think about Fassbender and Assassin's Creed!

What a cute story, too bad that Robert became one of the biggest douchebag from Hollywood!

Hagen said...

And ugh. He-who-can-do-no-wrong Fassbender has apparently been announced for a new video game movie adaptation, so we are getting a flood of Jake/PoP stories.

It will start all over again when Liam Hemsworth stars as Ali Baba in "Arabian Nights".
I like "Prince of Persia", but I'm glad that there won't be a sequel. Obviously there are more worthy film projects for Jake (not financially though). And without sequels Jake acts in a greater variety of movies.

Monica said...

Hagen, have a franchise is very good for the actors. Look at Chris Bale.
Although not a fan of POP, I would have been happy if the film had been a success. That would have been so good for Jake, opening up opportunities for him to work with many directors and many other films.
Sometimes I'm thinking about the roles he has lost in the last two years, only because Pop was not a success.

bobbyanna said...

monica, I agree with you, PoP was viewed as a disappointment by a lot of film industry professionals (including critics)butalso think that CAA and Jake's PR firm were a big part of the problem.

Lots of actors have movies that don't do well, (Green Lantern?) but the actor isn't defined by them. They get signed on to more films and keep chugging along.

I agree PoP was definitely a reason, Jake's management was also part of the problem. I'm sure he turned down parts as well, but I am really glad he dumped CAA.

I wsih and hope his marketing will show a huge improvement. Real soon. : )

I am glad he is working with Denis Villeneuve and he has the play coming up. I hope EoW does really well. Now I want to see his schedule start filling out with more projects.: )

UltraViolet said...

Hagen, there are two separate things that will come up. Liam Hemsworth/Arabian Nights will bring up the issue of ethnicity. I can't believe the producers didn't learn anything from PoP, not to mention history.

I don't know the ethnicity of the characters in the Fassbender game. But most of the comments are along the lines of "at least it's not Gyllenhaal."

It is true that PoP wasn't a huge financial success. But it is not as bad a movie as many people say.

I think it's better that the franchise didn't work out. But I also wish Jake had gotten a successful franchise. It kills me to read about Chris Pine doing the Jack Ryan movies. And all the Dark Knight hoopla reminds me how Jake is continually absent from these event movies.

It makes me sad.

UltraViolet said...

That is a very cool RDJ story.

I didn't realize you rent a fan, Monica. I haven't heard anything awful about RDJ.

Monica said...

I liked Robert, but recently he became full of himself.

And all the Dark Knight hoopla reminds me how Jake is continually absent from these event movies.

Me too. I was thinking about it yesterday.

Viv said...

yes.....these years about Jake's career direction is kind of depressing.....He's already lost so many great chances. To be honest, sometimes I feel frustrated being a Jake fan.XD

And I don't get the"at least it's not Gyllenhaal"thing. It means at least the role is not played by a white man or what??I dont know why Jake got so many hate form general people just becuase of ethnicity. He is not the first one to do this in Hollywood for god sake.

UltraViolet said...

I don't think it's the ethnicity, Viv. That's what I was trying to say above. It's people being dismissive of Jake as an actor. It's unfortunate.

I need to channel Bobbyanna and try to be optimistic about Jake's career. I look forward to everything he has in the works. I just wish his name was heard more in discussion for more movies.

Viv said...

UV.maybe it's a way for those people to bash Jake.If Jake has three movies over 100 million like Channing wooeden Tatum in one year, they will say he is a super star and good at anything.XD
It's humanity.

Office of Nancy Pelosi said...

It looks like Jake has a new uniform, LOL!!!

I love all the Jake cartoons you found UV, I don't reacall seeing the Rendition one at all.

It is frustrating when I see some actors attached to projects that just has me stratching my head.

Pop was flawed but it was enjoyable, but I can understand why it didn't turn into a franchise.

I would love for Jake to get a Bourne like franchise and continue to do films like The Enemy as well, it is frustrating.

I agree with you Monica. I used to really like RDJ, but he is so full of himself that I can barely tolorate him anymore.

bobbyanna said...

UV, my optimism's based on what we all know about Jake.:)

Yes, it's frustrating to watch as things unfold and get screwed up.
Other actors make bad films, and it's not the end of the world.
Their publicists put a good face on it, and keep the actors viable. Jake's PR is too often AWOL, IMO.

Good agents time it so actors get signed up for more projects before a blockbuster's released, so if it tanks, they have three or four other movie projects in the wings. Jake didn't have that advantage.

The right franchise would be nice. I think of Batman, too, and The Bourne Legacy.

I'm glad Jake' at WME. I just feel like he's finally back in a good place right now.

A lot of these other actors grind out a lot of mediocre product no one will remember. Jake's created three or four iconic roles in the past 12 yrs. That keeps me optimisitc, too. : )

(While Unstoppable and Safe House made money, they're Denzel's movies. Was Ides of March more successful commercially or critically because of the casting? No way. :))

(I've dealt with the ethnicity issue in PoP by reminding myself Dastan was adopted. I hate the snide, derisive comments about PoP and Jake. I've felt for a long time that some of the malice has nothing to do with PoP : ))

Monica, I was thinking of Robert Downey jr. who is stuck in franchise movies ("Iron Man" / "Avengers" and "Sherlock Holmes"). Most of all I would have liked to see "Jarhead" and "Zodiac" as indisputable successes. These are sophisticated, visually interesting movies with rather big budgets. I've got mixed feelings about "Incendies", Denis Villeneuve's latest movie. An unusual shocking story, but the lack of money is pretty obvious. His style of directing needs getting used to. I'm somewhat optimistic for "An Enemy", the story doesn't require a big budget.

Apparently Jake isn't particularly popular with straight men in the USA. (In Germany "Prince of Persia" was more successful than "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2"). It probably doesn't make sense to cast him for superhero or other big event movies. I'm fine with that. But I'm not overly happy that the budgets of his movies get smaller and smaller.

UltraViolet said...

You make a good point, Hagen. RDJ is stuck at the opposite end of the spectrum. But he has the power, if he wants, to break out.

Jake is, sadly, dependent on others for his power at the moment. A breakthrough franchise a la Bourne could have changed that.

Straight men in a lot of places font like Jake. It's sad and stupid but it is a fact. I think he can still turn it around, but he needs the right role. SC was a step in the right direction. And as Bobbyanna said, changing his team should help. But it is frustrating.

UltraViolet said...

Obviously, that should be "don't" not "font." And I should have added straight women in many places, as well. BBM still casts a long shadow for Jake in some quarters, for better and worse.

UltraViolet said...

I still have to check out Incendies. Just did a Twitter run, and it's depressing to see that Jake's name isn't even floated when people discuss casting for hot movies or trek, like 50 Shades of Grey. Not that I want him to do it, but the absence of his name is glaring.

Nice article on McBongo's career resurgence.

Wouldn't you like to hear this story?

one time two summers ago my friend hitch hiked in Martha's vineyard and Jake Gyllenhaal picked her up ‪#WHAT‬ ‪#BESTSTORYEVER‬

UV, I do still see the occasional tweet disparaging Jake for appearing in BBM, but not nearly as many as there used to be.

I've also noticed a trend in the past year or two, more & more guys claiming they resemble Jake, or claiming some girls said they resemble Jake, and they're very flattered by the comparison. Guys even post photos of themselves to "prove" the resemblance. LOL!

I think Jake's broadened his appeal, but I also agree his role in BBM is a barrier towards full acceptance of him with some audiences. With some people, sadly, it always will be.

Can't help noticing he also inspires some jealousy/resentment in guys when their girlfriends get all gushy about Jake, just as he also inspires admiration for hanging out (!) with Bear Grylls. : )

I have to remind myself that it's not unique to Jake.

UltraViolet said...

I'm not talking about overt digs or hostility about BBM, Bobbyanna. It's deeper than that, sadly, seeped into the atmosphere around Jake. For better and worse, as I said. But there's a lot of worse.

Dicaprio has never done the super hero stuff and he's probably just as if not more powerful than alot of the actors out there today. He has longetivity, I honestly can't see the THor or for that matter Fassbender still acting as top bill in 5-6 years but you will see Jake and Ryan G though and probably Leo as well. Chantum will probably stick too, but Chantum has taken his career in his own hands by producing some of his own movies and finding someone to believe in his work. Many of the "hot actors" will eventually get cold.

Viv said...

Leo has some blockbuster like Titanic(I know it's old, but it's still the most famous movie in the past)and Inception under his belt.I believe Fassbener will last long.He is a very good actor, not sure about Thor or Captain America.Ryan G. or Tom Hardy keep being offered good scripts and roles.I am not saying Jake can't get good scripts and roles, but is way harder than Ryan G. and Tom Hardy right now.
But I hope you are right.Jake can last his career long.I miss his face on big screen.:)
