2020 Vision

A very belated Happy New Year to GB-land. And apologies for not posting until now. I hope there are still folks out there. I've decided not to put pressure on for post material. Let's just go with what we get! Jake Gyllenhaal has made some fun 2020 appearances - here's a sampling.

Jake was the special guest for a Rufus Wainwright concert at Lincoln Center. Here's their duet on "All I Have to Do Is Dream:"

No video of Jake's solo on the RW song Poses. But Jake did post some rehearsal footage on his Instagram.

Jake also went to the New York Philharmonic and posed with conductor Gustavo Dudamel:

Combining music and sports - Jake with Jimmy Iovine at the Lakers game on February 4:

You can see Jake at the end of this clip. And on the jumbotron:

Jared Leto posted a photo with Jake, Liam Hemsworth and a trainer at the gym in LA:

Right after this we played Twister.

I'm sure everyone has seen or at least heard about Jake's turn as Mr. Music in Jon Mulaney's Sack Lunch Bunch special (technically, a 2019 appearance). If you haven't, you're missing out!

Seth Meyers interviewed Mulaney and the Sack Lunch creative team. At about 54:41 in this clip, they talk about Jake as Mr. Music and about his SNL appearance.

I like this twitter description: "Jake Gyllenhaal in the new Mulaney Netflix special is like watching a serial killer who accidentally found themselves on Sesame Street."

Thanks for the new post, UV!

I still check the Babble often as a habit, but seem to have lost interest in Jake :( can't pinpoint why, just one of those things.

Hope you and all the other lovely people out there are having a wonderful 2020 so far.

x

Hello, RS! Thanks for popping in.As for Jake - that's the nature of fandom. Perhaps he'll do something else to spark your interest. Or just remain a good memory :)

I'd love to see him do another great movie role. Though I love to see him on stage, I do miss him on the big screen.

Hi UV, thanks for the new post!

I´m with you, I´d love to see Jake on screen again. For now, I´m looking forward to London. I´ve booked my flights and hotel yesterday. I hope to go again in August, I just don´t know yet.

It´s pretty time-consuming to always be up to date with everything someone is doing in the entertainment industry and I am simply spending more of my time on what´s going on in real life *lol* I still try to keep an eye on what´s happening, just not that intensely right now.

I hope everyone is fine and had a good start. We´re busy, it´ll take at least another two or three years until we´re about done with the garden, driveway etc (depending on how fast we´re able to save the money we need).

That's funny. Same thing is happening to me too. I still have that soft spot for Jake, but for some reason I'm not that interested in his future projects anymore. Don't know why. Maybe because some of his latest movies (Okja, Velvet Buzzsaw, SpiderMan) were not really my cup of tea.

Thank you for continuing to check in, Diana and BJ. Jake is still in L.A. Maybe he'll announce a project that everyone can get excited about.

Diana, what is this "real life" you speak of? :)

I look forward to seeing Jake in London. But we can't all see him on stage, so a great film project would be nice.

Tons of new LA photos on IHJ, btw. And a belated thanks to Stephanie for keeping up even when so many have drifted away.

There are some really nice photos of Jake attending an after-show-party. I read a lot that people wonder whether he did let it grow for a role or not and which one it could be.

When it comes to real life....we´ve got loads of work with our unfinished house, I´m trying to find a new job, I still have to invest a lot of time on my mom´s inheritance and right now I´m struggling with some health problems (manageable but physio therapy still takes time and effort). I´d rather spend my time on Jake, that´s a lot more enjoyable *lol*

So SITPWG runs now from June 5th instead of June 11th. Generally that´s great but it completely ruins my plan to go to the first show. I would´ve never spent that much money on a ticket for a "regular" show date so I can´t help but be quite pi**ed off about it. They could´ve extended it towards the end, the last show is on September 5th which is four days before my birthday, it would have been great to go to the last show on my birthday! Anyway, I can´t do anything about it and I am still happy to be able to go. I know many people would LOVE to go, no matter which show or ticket. Still.......aarrrgh. I hate it when plans don´t work out.

Diana, I am in the same boat! Now I have to decide whether to go earlier or just accept that I won't be at the first show, lol. I was very annoyed when I saw that they added earlier performances.

Good luck with the job and house and the physio - no fun on any count. And belated condolences - I don't remember your telling us about your mother.

Jake was still in LA yesterday - lunching at Joan's on Third. Like old times!

I'm still here, although work and studies take up a lot of my time. I still love Jake, but like the others, I need him to do something big on the screens again. I miss him in a big movie.

So Jake was on SNL and I had a good laugh!

SNL skit

He also posted a video on his instagram account:

Jake meets Larry David backstage

Jake is in London right now. I wonder when the rest of the cast for SITPWG will be announced and when rehearsals begin? I was quite jealous when I saw Jake´s photo. He was in one of my favorite shops. Cake, wonderful cake! *lol*. Can´t wait to go back!

Hope everyone is feeling healthy, safe, with plenty of toilet paper ;)

Sending love to anyone who is suffering and/or has lost someone to this virus.

Came here to say the exact same thing - except for the toilet paper, that is ;)

Unbelievable what has happened in such a short period of time... Stay safe, everyone! xx

Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone. (Don't) Kiss me, I'm Irish :)

Thanks, Diana, Monica, Sal and BJ, for popping in. These are strange times we are in. I hope you are all well and staying sane/strong wherever you are.

The Guardian has a 90th birthday tribute to Stephen Sondheim, with Jake leading off the article.

Of course, we don't know if the West End production of Sunday in the Park with George will go ahead. I hope it will, in some form, once the world starts humming again.

I'll try to make a new post - perhaps we can do a Jake movie rewatch in our self-isolations!

Take care out there, everyone.

UltraViolet said...

How's everyone doing out there? To make you smile: Jake reading a children's book for Jennifer Garner's initiative.

Now we'll see if he does Tom Holland's push-up challenge!

UltraViolet said...

It's also on Instagram.

Diana said...

Hey everyone,

UV, I was just about to post about Jake reading the book! I wish he would do another audio book, I think audio books generally would be a great thing to record for many artists, especially now when everyone is desperately looking for things to do indoors. BUT - first up the push-up challenge!

Corona-wise our family and closest friends are virus-free so far and we hope we can escape that for as long as possible. I´ve got three family members who would possibly not survive Covid-19 so we´re all a bit tense right now.

Take good care of yourselves!

Hi, UV, hope you and GBabblers are doing well during these unusual and difficult times.

Because twitter is filled with stupidity and ignorance, I'll post the news here, the place that will always love and respect Jake:

"Rise Up New York!"
Relief Benefit Hosted By Tina Fey To Support New Yorkers Impacted By COVID-19

Governor Andrew Cuomo, Barbra Streisand, Ben Platt, Bette Midler, Mayor Bill de Blasio, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, Chris Rock, Cynthia Erivo, Eli Manning, Idina Menzel, Jake Gyllenhaal Jennifer Lopez, Jimmy Fallon, Julianne Moore, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mariah Carey, Robert De Niro, Sting and more unite in virtual telethon.
...will join together with New York television and radio stations to air a citywide "virtual telethon" on Monday, May 11 at 7 PM ET to raise awareness and funds to help New Yorkers whose lives have been dramatically impacted by COVID-19. The show will bring together New York City's biggest musicians, actors, chefs and more with one common goal: To raise funds for Robin Hood's relief and recovery efforts, deployed directly to the organizations on the frontlines that serve the city's most vulnerable during the current crisis and its aftermath. 100 percent of donations will provide support for food, shelter, cash assistance, health and mental health, legal services, education and more – helping fellow New Yorkers rebuild their lives as the city moves towards recovery and beyond.

After the Sondheim 90th Celebration and the Colbert interview, a new interview will be featured in the upcoming VOGUE UK June 2020 issue. Available to download on May 7th but I don't know if we need to just subscribe or buy it. I'm hoping IHJ will generously provide us the scans.

All the best to GBabblers everywhere!

There have been a couple of things going on during the last few weeks, the most important one being the fact that SITPWG got postponed to 2021.

It´s a shame but I expected it for a while already.

I hope you´re all okay.

"Sunday in the Park with George" will be postponed until 2021.

What a year. I hope everyone is safe.

We´re very lucky, noone in my family or amongst my friends has been/ is affected by Covid so far. I am expecting a second wave if not even a second lockdown, looking at how stupid people act since summer arrived.... stay safe, everyone. I always think, like, my grandparents had to go through WW2 when they were teens, I will manage to continue social distancing, wearing a mask and washing my hands!

Monica said...

The nomination came! So happy for Jake!

BlueJean said...

I was curious to see if someone would post about Jake's Tony nomination ;) It's far too quiet here. Hope everyone's okay and safe!

UltraViolet said...

Yes, finally! Congrats to Jake. And hello, Monica - hope you are well. I hope all GBers are okay out there!

UltraViolet said...

I hadn't seen your comment, BJ! Good to see you, too. Nice to have some news. Maybe I should even do a new post!

Maddi said...

I´m happy for Jake´s nomination, let´s see how it goes! I remember that some of the projects from Nine Stories got nominated for several awards, as well, right?

Are some of you watching the movies/docs Nine Stories produces?

Good to see some of you, we´re fine! My country is going into a terminated lockdown for a month from monday. It´s not as strict as it was in spring but still... I hope everyone pushes through ok and we can avoid an explosion of covid-cases and really flatten the curve. Some hospitals have a worrying number of cases and are close to being full. Businesswise I am especially worried about the hospitality and show business. Many businesses are close to bankrupcy already. However, saving lives is most important.

Having said that, please look after yourselves and your loved ones. This whole situation is a psychological nightmare, and even the mentally strongest ones are surely suffering mental health issues at some point. Read you soon!

Monica said...

My friends, good luck tomorrow. I'm hoping you can get rid of this orange rotten man.

Monica said...

Congratulations!!! You did it!!!

I love Fincher as a director, but as a person he must be awful. Jake was too young, with a lot going on in his career, a possible Oscar nomination, Brokeback, his personal life being dissected by the media and fans; all of this in the middle of an award season. We are the same age, so I understand how it must have touched his mind, should he have handled it better? Yes, but still, he was young, he certainly had no one there to help him.

Jake is currently filming a Michael Bay film called Ambulance. I don't like Michael Bay movies generally so can't stay I'm too excited about it. there are new Jake pics on IHJ of him on set.

Hello, someone here?

Maddi said...

Hey there,

it´s astonishing how quiet it has become here, and not just here!
I´m not posting in a lot of blogs or forums, but since the pandemic hit it´s died down in so many places!

Hope you´re all ok and enjoying the festive season, well, as much as possible wherever you are. Take care of yourselves!!
