Star Power

Constellations ends its three-month run today. A collection of stage door photos, tweets and posts. Congratulations to the whole Constellations company.

A performance and a story that hits so close to home for me while linking a love story to the quantum multiverse theory. It gave me hope, closure and a reminder that there are infinite possibilities to one relationship, however, there is one thing that remains consistently important: time. We are all dying. Learn, love and live as much as you can in the dimension you're in.

Constellations on Broadway. Modern. Realistic. Hilarious. Destabilized.

Dizzingly hypnotic in text, direction and performance. Bravo.

Incredibly dynamic performances from Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson in "Constellations". Watching them both coexist on a blank stage with no set was like watching a master class in acting. See this show.

Show was dark, artsy, funny, I loved it. They are amazing actors.

Beautiful story, beautifully done, beautiful characters.

Thought provoking, unique, and incredibly well acted.

Just watched Constellations on Broadway. Speechless. Reflecting on all the choices we make.

Constellations was amazing. Moving and captivating. I cried. Jake Gyllenhaal was sensational. Ruth Wilson was terrific. Loved it.

Absolutely brilliant. Talk about beautiful/devastating

What an epic theater week. #TheHeidiChronicles wowed me and tonight #constellations on broadway broke my heart.

#Constellations at @MTC_NYC is impossibly and exquisitely beautiful. Stunning performances by Jake Gyllenhaal & Ruth Wilson.

Ruth Wilson and Jake Gyllenhaal were totally perfect in every way. Ugh. #constellations

Constellations: Jake Gyllenhaal did a surprisingly good accent. Very brainy. Many tears. Loved it! Ruth Wilson was dynamic.

My heart was broken by Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson.

I enjoyed the play a lot and I talked to the people next to me as we exited and they also liked it. The two actors helped to make the show engrossing. I did find the last scene a bit abrupt.

#Constellations at @MTC_NYC is a straight up 70 min MASTERCLASS in acting. Ruth Wilson! Jake Gyllenhaal! Out of this world script & cast.

Great short play that literally packs multiple lifetimes into 72 minutes; Ruth Wilson is charming, lively and intelligent and Jake Gyllenhall, out-Gwyneths Gwyneth by pulling off English accent in a very word-driven piece (I know that sounds obvious but if you see it you'll know what I mean - same lines delivered in subtly different ways very rapidly), but more so shows depth, range and convincing emotion in the less overtly kinetic role. As if "Nightcrawler" didn't prove it already, he has serious acting chops - the real deal for sure.

Date night with Jake Gyllenhaal and @dianaaltman03. So mesmerized by this play. The complexity was truly unique and engaging. An insanely brilliant physics love story and another example of beautiful theater.

Constellations at @MTC_NYC is impossibly and exquisitely beautiful. Stunning performances by Jake Gyllenhaal & Ruth Wilson.

Money wise, you get to see great feat of acting creating many possible versions of a story. Heart wise, you get constellations of love bursting at the seams. #constellations #beautiful #jakegyllenhaal #ruthwilson #greatchemistry #broadway

Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson in Constellation on Bway- multidimensional performances that wow with their depth and dexterity.

Wow, Constellations was incredible. Jake Gyllenhall and Ruth Wilson both utterly incredible.

Constellations is so incredibly moving and special. Ruth Wilson and Jake Gyllenhaal are a giving the performances of a lifetime.

#Constellations @MTC_NYC was absolutely beautiful. So happy to finally catch it on stage. Stunning performances.

Go see #Constellations with Ruth Wilson & Jake Gyllenhaal at @MTC_NYC. Acting at its finest.

amazing! I haven't seen a show this good in years it was great! They have such good chemistry and both so great w fans.

#Constellations blew my mind with its compression, use of time, intensity. 70 minutes. Gyllenhal and Wilson were beyond impressive.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson totally brilliant in #Constellations. The play is short, smart and both sad and sweet. #Broadway

Saw Constellations @MTC_NYC. Fascinating play that gets more interesting the more I think about it. Ruth Wilson & Jake Gyllenhaal wonderful.

Fantastic play, wonderful performances, spare and beautiful set. It sticks with you. Go see this ...

He is starring in a play in manhattan... Constellation- it is about the decisions we make and do not make how they shape our lives, how our reactions to situations help determine the outcomes of things.. anyway. i have always had a crush so i stayed after in the cold hoping and waiting - i came close to giving up but didnt.. and ironically his family was visiting him there so the chances of him eventually coming out were slim.. but then he showed..he noticed my candy heart for him immediatly said "awe thats so sweet" he signed my playbill and then i asked for a selfie. he said "hugs and kisses awe.." and with that i handed him my heart.....

My heart is still pounding from CONSTELLATIONS. Go see the brilliant and hilarious #JakeGyllenhaal and #RuthWilson . We have all the time we’ve always had.

Dang all you romantic people who sold out #Constellations Broadway on Valentine's Day!! Now what am I supposed to take myself to?

Jake Gyllenhaal in #Constellations on #Broadway. Smart and intense show! And he is so nice (and hot).

#tbt to last week when I watched #JakeGyllenhaal and #RuthWilson attempt to lick their elbows as they jumped through time and space and in and out of love in #Constellations @mtc_nyc. What a beautiful and confusing non-linear play, with inspired performances by two Broadway n00bs. Also, balloons!

Jake Gyllenhaal !! My Day Could Not Have Gotten Any Better #jakegyllenhaal #constellations #broadway #bestday #bubbleboy

Jake Gylenhaal and Ruth Wilson gave an incredible performance in Constellations yesterday. Not your typical linear storyline which made the piece unique to other Broadway plays. An insane appreciation for the actors' specificity in each of their performances and a huge congratulations to an amazing Broadway debut for both of them.

And the show that was the reason for this whole trip, the incomparably daring and heartbreaking "Constellations". It truly isn't an easy feat of a script but this production was sublime and brilliant!

#constellations was great! I don't usually go to plays but this one was hilarious and the acting was great. The theater was so small and pretty. And they come out afterwards.

jake gyllenhaal is TALENT
acting, direction, set design, lighting design, costume design, playwrighting all on point. everyone go see constellations.

literally can not believe I came face to face with my all time favorite actor and celebrity crush tonight, he's even more beautiful in person and was amazing in his broadway show

Constellations at @MTC_NYC is as superb as I remember it from @royalcourt. Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson have a great chemistry.

A little Gyllenhaal Wilson action in 'Constellations'. A master class on the effect of our most minute of daily choices and, of course, acting.

Run don't walk. They are beyond description. So well written, so well acted.

tamarabraun Um... #nickpayne, #jakegyllenhaal , #ruthwilson, #constellations incredible. Thank you.

I just saw CONSTELLATIONS at @MTC_NYC. Or maybe I'm still seeing it. Or maybe I never saw it at all.

I want to personally thank you for taking this photo with me. Having the opportunity to meet you in person was an amazing experience. I really appreciate your time and energy to meet and greet with the public after the play. It shows that your an honorable person who cares deeply about his fans. Keep up the awesome work!!!!

Sat close enough to see up Jake G and Ruth Wilson's noses. They're def winning tonys.
They signed my balloon! This might not mean anything to you but trust me it makes me super cool. #Constellations #Ihaveaballoon

About to be in a room with Jake Gyllenhaal. 13-year-old me is dying.
CONSTELLATIONS is inventive, beautiful, and short enough for this lady to get home before 10. A+.

Just saw @JakeG_Online in #Constellations, such an amazing play. Definitely makes you think about life and time. #mindfulness

Ruth Wilson & Jake Gyllenhaal were utterly entrancing and energetically brilliant in #Constellations how do they do it???!!!!

Enjoyed #Constellations thisaft &lucky 2attend post-show disc upclose w/ #JakeGyllenhaal #ruthwilson .So open & generous in their reflections.

fast and graceful, thought-provoking and original. They were both great but she was incredible.

If you want to experience something at the theater that is exhilarating and unique - see Constellations starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson. A short 70 minute play that packs in a lifetime of experience - an excellent show! Don't miss it.

Just had the pleasure of witnessing brilliance front row and center. In awe of #RuthWilson and #JakeGyllenhaal's craft... #theUniversehasitsways #Ilovebeingmovedbywhatothersarecreating

I loved #constellations, but the review from the old people sitting behind me was that it was confusing and hard to hear

Jake's scruffy hotness aside, Constellations was a fascinating play and I can't stop thinking about it. Okay, back to Jake's scruffy hotness.

Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the most moving actors I've ever seen. Bravo. @JakeGyllenhal #Constellations #Broadway

Constellations was breathtaking. Please see it if you can manage to get one of the few remaining tickets. You don't want to miss this beautiful production.

Thanks to my friend, I was able to see CONSTELLATIONS tonight. Gorgeous production, interesting play with a fascinating premise and OUTSTANDING performances by Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson.

Jake Gyllenhaal looking hot giving a beautiful performance-- I mean really beautiful. With a British accent. And... I'm done. /Right??? Not always a fan, but damn. He's good in this. And HOT. Ruth is magnificent./I was there tonight! Man oh man, what a beautiful show, and the both of them were fantastic.

#JakeGyllenhaal and #RuthWilson are so remarkable in #Constellations! Such a beautiful play. Perfect…

#Constellations is superb. #JakeGyllenhaal and #RuthWilson are stellar. Heartwarming and heart-tugging! #frontrow

On vacation I saw the play CONSTELLATIONS with Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson. Wow. I confess I wept at the end

My friend invited me to this play last night. He paid for the tickets, so I can't say with absolute impunity that it was worth the price of admission, but I will say this: theoretically, let's say I'd paid for my entire row. Even that would have been worth the price of admission. Constellations is that good. That smart. That well-acted and beautiful. Don't miss it.

Saw a very interesting play last weekend, in New York. "Constellations" with Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson(" The Affair"). Two people meet, over and over again, re-enacting the manner in which they relate and date. Truly rested on their shoulders to pull this subtle piece of theater off, but they did so, majestically.

Saw "Constellations" tonight at Manhattan Theater Club with Jake Gyllenhall and Ruth Wilson.

Best play I saw all year. Would love to interview you about it smile emoticon You have TRULY out down yourself as an actor. I am in awe. I am coming again on one of the March shows at 10pm. Would love to speak to you.

Still thinking about the play Emilie and I saw last night. Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson were absolutely brilliant. I was positively enthralled and loved the sequence changes as the story wove in and out of parallel universes. It was also quite funny while still making me cry at times. If you're in NYC, check it out!

Much respect to Jake Gyllenhaal, Ruth Wilson & @MTC_NYC for adding the late-night shows for us under-30s. Constellations was SPECTACULAR.

Saw #JakeGyllenhaal and #ruthwilson in #constellations @MTC_NYC amazing accomplishment from both actors. Really glad to experience it

My fellow #HarvardWestlake high school alum, #JakeGyllenhaal, is amazing in the play #Constellations. Great job dude!

Apologies for the very long and disorganized post. I had plans to arrange the photos but it was just never going to happen.

I loved this tweet from tonight:

For those wondering: Yes, Jake Gyllenhaal is as beautiful in person, and yes making eye contact with him makes levitation possible. 😊

bobbyanna said...

UV, this post is a beautiful tribute to the success of Constellations and to Jake. Silly to say, but I feel like I was "there." : )

He seems relaxed and happy in all these fan photos, and I love seeing how his expressions change. He is really connecting with his fans. He sure knows how to work a crowd.

Mary said...

Thanks UV can't believe the run is over Jake looks happy and very relaxed. Do you know what his next project is yet ?

I really wish I got to see this play, what a acting tour de force for Jake and Ruth based on the reviews and the gb posters that saw it ! Hopefully Tony nominations will follow.

Thanks so much UV for gathering the fan pics and tweets!

Loved this looooooooooong post, UV! :) Like bobbyanna said: I feel like I was there!

I'll be seeing the play in my own country next month. I think I'll just close my eyes and pretend it's Jake (and Ruth) up there! ;)

Now off to read the tweets!

UltraViolet said...

Found this tweet from February, from someone who worked on Constellations:

Our leads got us catered bbq between shows. Sometimes I feel like I'm dreaming at work. I love this show and all the people involved.

A few tweets from today:

Not my picture, but Constellations was unreal today. Beautiful set, beautiful story, beautiful Jake Gyllenhaal

Saw final Broadway performance of Nick Payne's play "Constellations" today & it was amazing. Jake Gyllenhaal superb.

Just saw the finale of #Constellations. Brilliant performances by Ruth Wilson & Jake Gyllenhaal.

Jake Gyllenhaal, you are equally devastatingly handsome and talented. So happy to have seen Constellations on its closing day. Bravo.

Looks like Jake went to Jack's Wife Freda again today:

I'm sitting next to jake gyllenhaal omg
ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

wHAT

I would take a picture but im so scared he's beautiful and with his wife omg omg not his wife but like he's in a play and she's his wife girlfriend idk I haven't seen it but OMG he was perfect

he uses a lot of salt on his meal just saying

And LOL. The drawing is priceless.

A look at the post-show madness.

The scrum to get a photo or autograph was crazy and a little scary. I didn't wait the whole time but left and came back. Didn't really get close to fully seeing Jake - just glimpses. I did suddenly find myself standing in front of Ruth at one point. The security was terrible, and the flimsy barricades were all totally breached. It was very poorly handled. Jake escaped before Ruth.

Also, they didn't come out until almost five. The show ended at 3:20, I think. There has to be a better way to do this stuff. It was really cold and I think really frustrating for a lot of people.

This video makes things look calmer than they were.

More importantly, the show was amazing again. I went with someone who hadn't seen the show before, and she loved it, as well. It felt like there were a few different lines - someone else who's seen it can tell me if Marianne mentioned a specific author when asking Roland if he got his speech from a book. I don't remember that before.

There was definitely strong emotion on the stage, especially at the end. Jake and Ruth both seemed to still have tears in their eyes at the curtain call. Jake silently mouthed "thank you" to the standing crowd. Ruth kissed Jake's hand, which he had always done to her at the end. That was very sweet.

I feel very fortunate to have gotten to see Jake again onstage.

Bobbyanna, Mary, SAG Actor and BlueJean: Thanks for the thanks :) I still wish I could have organized it better but it's nice to have a record of all the fun and all the complimentary tweets.

Another video from today. And another.

Thanks for collecting and posting all those pictures and comments, UV.

I'm glad you were able to see the last show, that had to be great and emotional.

I hope all the great reviews translate into something at the Tony's.

I liked knowing where Jake was most days. : (

BlueJean said...

How many times have you seen it, UV?

I'm more than a little envious, I must say. Not in a bad way, but it's different with having Jake in a movie. In a movie, he's "with" all of us, if you get what I'm saying. We're all able to see his films at some point, and for as many times as we like, but the play... it's gone now, and so many of us haven't seen it :(

Here's to hoping they'll turn the play into a movie one day - starring Jake and Ruth! ;)

I hope Jake is now able to take a long and well-deserved holiday somewhere hot and sunny. He's been working practically non-stop for the last couple of years - and he's got quite a year coming up. I wouldn't want him to wear himself out. God, I sound like his mother! :)))

Anyways, thanks for all the Constellations talk, everyone! It was a joy to read all of it.

Piruleta, fingers crossed for the Tonys. I will try - again - not to get my hopes up!

Anon: Jake will be at this event tonight:

Jake Gyllenhaal Discusses His Dreams
Currently starring in Constellations on Broadway, Jake Gyllenhaal takes to a very different kind of stage to give us a look inside his brain. For this lecture event at the Rubin Museum of Art, he'll be interviewed by Morgan Cerf, a professor of neuroscience. Cerf will be asking questions that pull out what's going when Gyllenhaal dreams, which he will translate into an explanation of the actor's brain activity. If you're going to learn about dreams and what they mean for our brains, there can't be a better subject to start studying than Gyllenhaal.

Monday, March 16 at 7:30PM, The Rubin Museum of Art, 150 West 17th Street.

BJ, I got to see Constellations four times. I'm very lucky, I know.

It is something special to see a play. A moment that won't be repeated exactly that way ever again. Very grateful that I could experience Jake on stage in this production and in If There Is.

From a report on Broadway box office:

Constellations closed its limited run at the Friedman Theatre after 29 previews and 76 performances. With reduced admission prices for Manhattan Theatre Club subscribers, the actual grosses for this not-for-profit production are not all that meaningful. What is of interest though is that, after most subscribers saw the show, the weekly average ticket price hit the top ten list. Single ticket buyers, in addition to subscribers, lifted the average admission to well over $100 for six weeks of the run (last week $120). Also, the theater was filled to almost 99% capacity on average over the run. A big success for MTC.

IHJ has photos of Jake in NYC with Marcus Mumford.

Great post. It was always fun to see all the pictures every day on twitter.

Sorry, Bluejean. I want a new movie soon!

UltraViolet said...

Much as I'd love to hear about a great new project, it would probably do Jake well to take a short break, at least. There's enough coming out this year that he can rest for a bit and still do something else that will come out next year.

On another note: Apparently Nailed has a 0% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Only 11 reviews, but ouch!

Photo from tonight's event here and here.

Hope we get a report or account of the evening.

Chica said...

I'm so happy you got to see Constellations three times UV! I saw Jake and Ruth once on stage ( lack of $$$ prevented me from seeing them more!) . They are pure magic together and I hope they can work together again.

It's fun looking at all of the fan pics from the stagedoor:)

UltraViolet said...

Chica, it's a little weird to think about Jake and Ruth not being Roland and Marianne. But I hope they work together again, as well.

According to the Rubin Museum, the event was televised, and they will put clips on youtube in the coming weeks. Yay.

Rita Ora on Jake:

Rita Ora has described working on Southpaw as an 'incredible experience.'

Ora will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal for the new boxing drama and reveals that the Oscar nominated actor was great to work alongside.

However, Ora reveals that she needed a lot of coaching and speech training for the role but says that going into a completely different world was great as an actress.

Speaking to Germany's Glamour magazine, Ora said: "It was an incredible experience! Jake made it very easy for me. The role that I play, is indeed very far away from my real life. But this role made me see a few things differently now.

"To be honest I needed a lot of coaching and some speech training, because I had to have a certain accent. It was really great to go into a completely different world, but it was not always easy."

From a blog post about Jake's Brainwave event:

Despite enormous strides in our understanding of the brain over the last few decades, lectures and panel discussions featuring neuroscientists regularly conclude with the following admission: the more we learn, the more we realize how far we are from definitive answers. In a Brainwave discussion between actor Jake Gyllenhaal and neuroscientist Moran Cerf on the impact of dreams, that often-repeated refrain was reaffirmed as the duo waxed philosophical and queried each other on various aspects of what Freud called “the road to the unconscious mind.”

The discussion took place during Brain Awareness Week at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City. Both Gyllenhaal and Cerf agreed that dreams are of vital importance; the actor compared dreams to films and claimed they can shape and change you. He also revealed that he either writes or records what he can recount about a specific dream as soon as he awakens. “Storytelling is the way I experience dreaming and what I try to accomplish as an actor, and both storytelling and dreaming can move you to extraordinary places in your life,” he said. “They help me guide major life decisions, including which projects to pursue.” ...

The pair had good chemistry and elicited laughter from the audience as they related the discussion to Gyllenhaal’s underwear, bad eyesight, and his taking credit for his sister’s goodness. Gyllenhaal also teasingly reminded Cerf, who has a rapid-fire style of speaking, to slow down. But the discussion also had serious and poignant moments as they related dreaming to grieving, depression, and close relationships.

Gyllenhaal said he is someone who dreams a lot, and Cerf asked if he might recount a recent dream. Gyllenhaal’s three-month run in the Broadway acclaimed two-actor play, Constellations, had ended just the day before, and the actor dreamed during the night that he was on a black stage filled with white balloons alongside an unknown figure as they both rose like a small town into the air. Cerf said that while such elaborate fantasies are open to interpretation, Gyllenhaal’s distinguishing colors in his dream is a relatively recent phenomenon: “Before color TV came along, people only dreamt in black and white,” he claimed. ...

For audience members who yearned to hear the full-bearded Gyllenhaal talk about acting, he spoke about the elements that drew him to his upcoming film, Everest, based on Jon Krakauer’s best-selling book, Into Thin Air. He said he is drawn to act in films (such as Everest, Donnie Darko, Prisoners, and Enemy) that involve the unconscious or reflexive behavior—states of mind closely aligned to the evening’s topic.

Can't wait to see his three films coming out, especially Demolition :)

Me too.

It seems that bradley cooper will be Harvey's priority for the awards season.

bobbyanna said...

Monica, I'm curious. Why do you think Harvey will go that way? I haven't been keeping up with him, but he seems to be promoting Rita Ora pretty heavily, too.

Johnny Depp may be a strong contender too, the next awards season, with Black Mass.

Monica said...

Because of the release date of his new film, Adam Jones (Weinstein Company), which will be on 02 October. The word is that the script is great with juicy role.
Weinstein put Southpaw in July, which is not a good sign for the Oscar.
We just have Demolition, that is odd. I don't know how the Academy will receive it.

Piruleta said...

On awardswatch the are quite positive about Jake making it for Demolition but of course it's too early.

Agree about Rita Ora, why are they pushing her that hard? Is her role even that important?

I'm so done with Cooper.

Monica said...

It was on awardswatch I read about Cooper. A person who read both scripts said Cooper's character is better/bait than Jake in Demolition.

I read Demolition, while I enjoyed it, I don't see how this is something for Oscar. It's odd.

Rita Ora is the new Blake Lively. Harvey tried to make Blake Lively happen a few years ago.

Monica said...

Isn't Everest scheduled for September?

September 18.

Vallee sort of came of age with quirky movies, before going Hollywood.
Demolition could be a return to those, compared to DBC and Wild:
C.R.A.Z.Y. was full of tonal shifts, fantasy daydreams, voice-over by an alienated main character with father figure breathing down his neck, too.
Cafe de Flore, his cult favorite, linked many types of love through time and space. Characters are coded by pop music, etc.
It all seems in the wheelhouse of each main player -- incl. zany/melancholy Jake, sarcastic and rakish Naomi from St Vincent, Chris Cooper in the Chris Cooper role.

RE: Rita Ora
Her druggie character seems a big part of the Southpaw boxer's spiral into debauched self destruction. Knowing Harvey, hope he didn't force a Monster's Ball scenario to make her happen:P

I haven't seen Crazy and Cafe de Flore, but DBC and Wild are movies I did not like. So, I hope you're right about his return. I enjoyed Demolition script. Although odd, it's a beautiful story.

The editorial work of Mick Audsley includes more than 30 feature film credits, spanning almost 40 years in the film business; Dangerous Liaisons, Interview with the Vampire, Twelve Monkeys, Mona Lisa Smile, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

We had the chance to interview this veteran editor while he was on a break from his latest project Everest, by director Baltasar Kormákur. His editorial team still has three weeks of work to do; record the music and finish the final mix. The movie is in its final stages and will soon be receiving the last visual effects shots. In the meantime Mick is teaching at Columbia University in New York City. Luckily for us, he could make some room in his busy schedule, to sit down and talk about his job as a Picture Editor.

“I didn’t get involved in Everest through the usual routes. While working on a film with Terry Gilliam, two good friends who always rent me my Avid equipment also supplied Baltasar some Avid gear for his previous movie. They said that I should ring Baltasar, who was just starting with his new Everest project. This was on a Friday, so I wrote him an email. The next Monday we met, and 5 days later they offered me to do the film.

Baltasar and I didn’t see each other much during the shoot period (15 weeks in Nepal, Italy and Pinewood). He was very gracious about letting me carry on and edit a first version of the movie. Actually, we really got together in Reykjavik in Iceland, homeland of Baltasar, to work on the ‘director’s cut’. Because of the vast amount of footage that was shot, my first version was almost 3.5 hours long. So every day at around four o’clock we would watch a reel or a section, take notes, discuss the cut and then I would make changes to the edit. It worked very well; he could carry on with other projects, and I was happy to explore different editorial approaches.”

....

For Everest I was receiving about 5 to 6 hours of material a day. In the days of film, that would only have been half an hour to an hour’s worth of material per day. As an editor back then, it was easy to review the previous day material and be able to cut during the rest of the day. Nowadays with 5 to 6 hours of dailies, I wouldn’t have time to edit, and moreover my brain would just explode…”

Thanks for that info, Monica.

I finished reading The Climb by Anatoli Boukreev and it's a great book, a different point of view, and as I said, we get know more about Scott Fischer and what led him to his fatal end.

I also read this article from Ed Viesturs. He was part of the IMAX expedition that was also there when the disaster happened. He was friends with both Rob Hall and Scott Fischer. His expedition climbed the mountain days after what happened and he had an emotional moment with both his friends. It almost made me cry :/

There's someone on IMDb forum who saw an screening of the film, he loved it and says he didn't know anything about the story but he searched for info after watching it and says the film is pretty accurate. I Can't wait to see the first trailer.

With the help of Karen and her son, Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.

Kate, that restaurant is in Tulum, Mexico. So they are on vacation if the sighting is true.

A couple of Everest-related tidbits:

Baltasar Kormakur Earns CinemaCon’s International Filmmaker Award:

Director Baltasar Kormákur has been selected as the winner of the 2015 International Filmmaker of the Year award from CinemaCon. This year’s CinemaCon – the annual gathering of National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) – will take place April 20th through April 23rd at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, NV. Kormakur will receive his International Filmmaker of the Year honor on April 20th which has been designated as the convention’s international day.

Indie author survives Everest ... and Hollywood:

Robin Wright, Keira Knightley, and Jake Gyllenhaal are just a few of the A-list stars in the movie based on the experiences you and the other climbers shared. But, to you, this is a very personal experience. Do you still feel like the real story is being told?

The real story? A good question that has never been asked. All reporting of this historic story has missed the real story. When Everest climbers climb above and into the Death Zone (above 26,000 feet), each is on his or her own. You either make it back down or you don't—on your own. When things go wrong, rarely is the cause a force of nature. It's almost always climber error—individual climber decision making. Each of us has a different story. In self we trust.

The tragic Everest "big story" is the confluence of all the individual stories. So, the real story is what pervades through all of them. The real story is why climbers in the same situation had different outcomes. Some lived. Some died. The real story is about individuality. Each of us brought who we are—and all of our individual differences—along with us to Everest. At noon, each of us had to make a decision about what to do next. The real story is how vulnerable our values and convictions were to becoming subordinated to ambition and pressures to succeed.

The movie is a movie. It is a selection of just a few of the more dramatic individual stories. A major film producer once told me that—since I lived—I was "just there." True enough. But by being just there, I was engaged by Universal Pictures as a consultant for the movie. I lived to tell the story.

Don't forget to do your brackets! Jake is currently beating Joe Jonas in his.

I looked on google wow Amansala is beautiful!

bobbyanna said...

Thanks Monica, it is beautiful. The beach looks like heaven, and there's cycling, yoga, jogging, carrot juice. LOLOL!

Joking aside, it looks like the perfect place for some R&R. Looks like Jake shaved, but that could be the poor quality of the photo.

Signs that TWC might actually begin promoting Southpaw? From twitter:

With that ring photo of Jake we've seen a million times.

They also tweeted about Rachel M last week.

I guess that means we'll have a trailer until next month, I hope.

Great news!!

bobbyanna said...

OMG That's wonderful news, Monica! I thought George Clooney was also involved with that project.

Monica said...

He is. Clooney is the producer.

THR says Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal are eyeing the two lead parts while there also might be roles for Joaquin Phoenix and “Godzilla” star Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Amy, Jake and Joaquin… that's an incredible cast! I hope it goes forward and gets confirmed

I'm very happy about these news, especially about the cooperation with Amy Adams. And I'm going to read "Tony & Susan" by Austin Wright. "A Single Man" was good, though sometimes I felt that Tom Ford imitated Wong Kar-Wai a bit too much. The production of "Story of Your Life" starring Amy Adams will start in mid June according to 'myentertainmentworld.com'. So it will take some time until Tom Ford can start filming "Nocturnal Animals" (it sounds like a sequel to "Nightcrawler" xD).

UltraViolet said...

Hagen! I was just wondering where you've been :)

I read somewhere that they are "eyeing a fall start" for the movie.

I really hope this happens and this isn't one of the many Jake-attached movies that never happen.

Like many, my first thought was that Tom Ford will make Jake look beautiful. A Single Man was beautifully shot and styled but a little lifeless. This story sounds much more dramatic.

Monica said...

And I'm going to read "Tony & Susan" by Austin Wright.

Me too. Yesterday morning I was looking to buy the book because I was excited about the story.

Hi UV! I'm fine, just a bit busy at the moment. I've kept reading the posts, but couldn't contribute anything recently.

I read somewhere that they are "eyeing a fall start" for the movie.

I think that sounds reasonable to start filming after the release of "Everest".

Like many, my first thought was that Tom Ford will make Jake look beautiful.

That's an easy task for sure. :)

A Single Man was beautifully shot and styled but a little lifeless. This story sounds much more dramatic.

I think Jake has developed a good judgement of the quality of scripts. So if Variety is right that Jake "was pushing hard for the male lead" I'm confident that the project is worth it.

Sorry for the double post, UV. I found an interview with Tom Ford on the film:

Though Ford won’t discuss title or plot lest he divulge secrets too early and bore himself along the way, he provides snippets of insight. He wrote the screenplay himself, finishing it in September. It’s an adaptation of a novel for which he bought the rights, not a well-known book and all the better for that. At this point at least, he has little interest in taking on material pre-loaded with audience expectations. He has changed the title and made considerable revisions to the story. As planned, the film is in two parts, the first faithful to the original material, and the second, completely new.

“A book is a book; a film is a film,” Ford says. “They are totally different things. Sometimes things are subtle in a book because there’s an inner monologue with the character, and turning it into a film, you don’t have that inner monologue—unless you do, which I don’t love.…You have to have something personal; you have to take what speaks to you about a book and amplify that. It’s impressionism, in a way.”

Unlike most directors, whose schedules and deadlines are project-based, Ford must work around an intractable fashion calendar. His narrow shooting window runs from Sept. 15 through December. If for some reason the film doesn’t come together in time, his next opportunity is the same time, next year. “I only need six weeks,” he says, noting that editing will be more flexible; he can set up a room in London. He shot A Single Man in 21 days: “I paid for it myself.”

Do we know when Jake will begin shooting The Man Who Made It Snow?

Monica said...

I think The Man Who Made It Snow begins shooting next year because Fuqua will be busy with Mag 7.
If it means he will not star in TWMIS, I'll be happy.

Not sure if this is a speculation, or if he heard something:

Gyllenhaal recently wrapped Jean Marc Vallee’s “Demolition,” which is expected to be released in time for awards season but could be pushed to 2016 if the actor’s fall schedule proves too busy to properly promote the film.

Hi FP! Long time no see. Did you see "Constellations"?

If it means he will not star in TWMIS, I'll be happy.

I hope he will. It's a challenging role and the movie has a substantial budget ($35 million) according to "The Hollywood Reporter". There aren't many independent movies with such a big budget.

UltraViolet said...

Yeah, I want him to do both. And he should have time this year, if Fuqua has the availability.

I'll be disappointed if Demolition moves to next year, but it might be a wise move. Unless then Nocturnal Animals will interfere.

Southpaw has an official twitter account.

Welcome back, FP. I also wondered if you got to see Constellations. I hope so!

Holy shit.

Sorry, but that was my first visceral reaction to the trailer. OMG. What a raw performance.

I have a love/hate relationship with trailers, because I feel like they give away too much of the movie. But I need to see them. This is a very strong trailer.

bobbyanna said...

LOL! I've decided to rationalize about the trailers, and be philosophical. I agree, I felt like I saw the movie. But the thing is, it's the performances and the force and feel of the story as it's portrayed on film, that matters in the end. that trailer definitely left me wanting a lot more. : ) And that's a good thing.

We've all seen a lot of films based on "true stories" or films based on literature, where a lot of people have already read the books. But we watch the movie because of all the other aspects.

I don't know where they found that little girl, but she's a heartbreaker. The trailer seems long. Hopefully they won't give away anymore story and they'll just cut this trailer down to shorter versions.

Tweety said...

Holy crap is right! Southpaw looks amazing (and yes Monica I do feel like I saw most of the movie!)

Love the news about Jake and Amy and the new Tom Ford Film. I wonder if this is the same project that Jake and Amy were attached to before Phillip Seymour Hoffman passed away.

Glad you got to see and loved Constellations FP!!

I don't have much faith on Fucua but wow Jake really gives it all there and I agree with bobbyanna, I'm impressed by the little girl too.

Hagen said...

Those teeth!
Most of all I like that Jake's part is different from everything he played before. He's rougher than Tommy in "Brothers". His voice his deeper than usual and he uses a different diction.

I wonder if this is the same project that Jake and Amy were attached to before Phillip Seymour Hoffman passed away.

No, that was "Ezekiel Moss".

bobbyanna said...

Speaking of diction, it'll be interesting to see Jake's interviews promoting Southpaw. I remember when Jake was promoting End of Watch and his diction, his speaking voice was different from "civilian" Jake. It was subtle, but it was different. He really gets into his roles. LOL!

Trailer is blowing up on Twitter. Really happy for him.

I didn't know that Antoine Fuqua was initially set to direct "Prisoners" back in 2009 (via Wikipedia: 750 Extras Needed For ‘Prisoners’).
