He looks mighty fine. Sitting on the sidewalk as if he were just an ordinary guy. He looks relaxed, paps are not giving him a hard time in Rome, nor are the fans, few and distracted but maybe also respectful of his privacy.
He looks relaxed, paps are not giving him a hard time in Rome, nor are the fans, few and distracted but maybe also respectful of his privacy.
It took a day until we got the first paparazzi pictures from Rome. And I don't think that Jake's Italian fans treat him in a different way than the American fans do. Why should they?
I really don't understand why Jake hasn't dyed his hair blonde. That's so lazy. Now he looks like any other actor in "Everest": dark-haired with a beard.
Blonde hair wouldn't suit him - his eyebrows are too thick and dark... plus I really don't think he'd dye his eyebrows! Or his beard, for that matter. Maybe he'll wear a wig? ;)
Does it really matter, anyway? On screen, they'll probably all look the same, like you say ;)
OK, point given. xD We discussed if Jake really had to lose that much weight for "Nightcrawler". But now he doesn't make the slightest effort to look like Scott Fischer. That doesn't make much sense.
BlueJean, I don't think blonde hair would look particularly hot, but now he looks just miscast.
Jake said in an interview that the character of Lou was hungry in many ways, so I think that he should lose that weight to feel that character, blond hair are not so identification of this character is more important what he was doing than his look, I think, JMO :)
As far as I'm concerned he doesn't have to look exactly like Scott Fisher to play the role. Maybe they'll work something out in the make up and hair department.
"A24 Instagram (@a24films) is dropping an exclusive, 3-part NSFW teaser vid from the new Jake Gyllenhaal thriller Enemy. Look out for parts II and III tomorrow and Weds."
Yay! Too bad I'm not on Instagram... plus I'm in Europe (time difference - a longer wait) ;)
"It took a day until we got the first paparazzi pictures from Rome. And I don't think that Jake's Italian fans treat him in a different way than the American fans do. Why should they?"
Jake is not well known in Italy as he is in the US. I wrote 'few' and 'distracted', in fact. I wrote 'maybe respectful' meaning that they've just let him be. As of now there are no fan pics apart from the one from St. Peter's. The few who recognized him just tweeted about it and haven't tried to take selfies or ask for autographs. He can be 'normal' because he's not well known. That's what I meant, Hagen.
Not only is Jake not as well-known, but he has that beard. People might not know him or just be afraid to approach :)
I have seen a couple of Italian sights posting about the "unrecognizable" Jake Gyllenhaal being in Rome.
My favorite tweet from yesterday:
Jake Gyllenhaal's beard needs an intervention
;)
We discussed if Jake really had to lose that much weight for "Nightcrawler". But now he doesn't make the slightest effort to look like Scott Fischer. That doesn't make much sense.
I'm disappointed, too, Hagen. I was really looking forward to blonde Jake. Maybe we'll find out why it was decided; I hope it wasn't just that Jake didn't want to try it.
I do not think that someone like Jake who was not afraid to play Jack Twist, has instead afraid to dye his hair and honestly there is not a worse mess hair than... POP LOL:)
Found this on twitter. Bless Gyllencrazy for knowing how to get good info from the tweeters. : ) So around 3PM Italian time today, Jake was in the Piazza di Spagna.
Start reading this backwards, from the bottom : )
@GYLLENCRAZY near Piazza di Spagna. He was wonderful *-*
Memi @CesariNoemi · 2h @GYLLENCRAZY I'm in Rome..yes I'm lucky but I couldn't stop him,I was too shocked and I didn't know what to do . I know I was stupid!
Memi @CesariNoemi · 3h @GYLLENCRAZY omg. YES! It was really him. I can't beliveeee
Memi @CesariNoemi · 3h @GYLLENCRAZY I'm not sure but I think that it was him
I'm not disappointed about the blonde hair at all. Jake always does a great job of capturing the character he plays. I won't have any problem with him being authentically Scott Fischer.
It's possible they tried it and found it too distracting. His hair seems a little lighter in recent photos but that could be the sunlight.
One think I hope to never see is Jake in a wig. That would be too, too horrible.
Rhombus Media @rhombusmedia Part 2 of the three-part @A24Films Instagram teaser for #ENEMY has just been posted. Check it out here: Instagram @matthannam
Well, Hagen, fortunately, I don't know as much as you do about the main people who were part of this ill fated adventure, and I wouldn't recognize them in pictures most of the time. I haven't read the book, and I only know the basics of the story.
Too many photos of the "real people" would ruin the experience for me. I'll make do with the on set photos if we're lucky enough to get any. : )
That's just my personal preference. I didn't know much about Swoff or Graysmith either before Jake made those movies.
I'm sure the director had his reasons for casting Jake in the particular role he cast him in instead of as one of the other characters.
Wiki tells me Scott was a real leader, charismatic, gregarious, and brave. He had a wife and small kids, and he was crazy about climbing even as a child. That's the outline of Jake's character.
As for the rest of the story, I will look forward to learning about it from the movie. Adventure thrillers are not a genre I am usually interested in. Those Man vs. Nature films always make me a nervous wreck. : ) Only for Jake will I see Everest. ; )
I would have liked a blonde Jake but I don't think Scott Fisher is an everyday name so maybe a lot of people will not know that Jake should be blonde.
And then too its not a biography of anyone so it may not be worth Jake dying his hair. I am sure if the movie was about the life of Scott, Jake would have gone blonde. Its sounds like so far the majority of scenes will be outdoors in the cold and don't mountain climbers were head gear all the time?
But still a blonde Jake would have been nice to see.
In my opinion, it would be interesting to see Jake blonde, but I think it wasn't necessary. Or Jake blonde could looks unnatural as in the photo I posted above. I know the makeup department could do a great job, but I've seen many atrocities in some movies. And the movie is not shooting in one of the best climates.
It's not like Scott is such a famous person to a point where people will complain. I looked at some photos of Clooney in The Perfect Storn. He's got a mustache like the person in real life. But still remained with gray hair and not dark as the captain had.
I love the red trailer and im very impressed with the roll out for Enemy!
I thought he would go blonde too for the roll, he may still with a little help with the make and hair dept but Fischer's story is so compelling that i don't think it really matters.
Nice loooooooooooooooong hair and no the blonde is not needed after all, he seems to have the essence of Scott Fischer and this time the heavy beard is justified.
I think Jake looks hilarious in that picture (his Jesus hair style, the "Mount Everest 1996" wool cap, the ski glasses). Maybe they use Scott Fischer as a comic character. (Variety wrote: "Though a tragic tale, 'Everest' will have moments of humor.")

He has his jacket off, so he seems to have finally realized he's in Rome and not the Alps :)
He looks mighty fine. Sitting on the sidewalk as if he were just an ordinary guy. He looks relaxed, paps are not giving him a hard time in Rome, nor are the fans, few and distracted but maybe also respectful of his privacy.
I agree! Especially on the "he looks mighty fine" bit! ;)

You think so? We'll see.

I agree BlueJean in the end what matters is the performance, I believe and hope Jake will not make us regret blond hair

Agree with FP, I don't really think that the blond hair is a key factor on Jake's portrayal of Scott Fischer
Not only is Jake not as well-known, but he has that beard. People might not know him or just be afraid to approach :)

I think it's distracting that Jake looks much more like Rob Hall than Scott Fischer (picture).

The German distributor of "Enemy" has started promoting the movie. There are some new stills: Jake at University, Jake looking in the mirror, Jake sitting in a chair, Jake wearing a wet T-shirt, Jake leaving University and Jake discussing with Denis Villeneuve.
The movie will be released on May 22. The distributor has finally opted for the beige Spanish poster (German poster).
Last but not least "Prisoners" is #1 in the German DVD rental charts.
