ReplyDeleteWell we did have an Australian play Bond and he wasn't half bad. Jake would be amaze balls as Bond as he can do a Brit accent pretty well. His fighting technique though is scrappy and probably will need 'tightening' up. They gave Daniel so much sh!t in the beginning, especially the Brits themselves, but they hail him as the best Bond now. Jake in a tux makes my tummy do somersaults. He still is a beautiful, poised but quirky man. Love him!!

For some reason, the standard necktie pallbearer/chauffeur look is all the rage in men’s formalwear. The turnout at last night’s Tony Awards was no exception. It was like a black business suit convention on an unfortunate scale.
But Gyllenhaal did it beautifully. J-Gyl went vintage 007 in a beautifully-tailored, midnight blue dinner jacket with a shawl lapel. It’s similar to the shawl-lapel homage worn by Daniel Craig in Skyfall, but Gyllenhaal went all the way with turn-back cuffs, just like the midnight blue shawl-lapel tux sported by Sean Connery in his very first scene in Dr. No in 1962.
He also kept it real with a spread collar tuxedo shirt. As I see it, the wing collar is great if you’re in a morning suit, in tails, or in a magic show at a Chippendales All-Male Revue.
Not only did Jake pull off a great tux and smart shirt, but he also nailed the proportions. The bow tie, shirt collar and jacket lapel should all work together with consistent proportions (also in relation to the size of one’s head); they all come together more nicely when they are a reasonably similar width. (Tom Hanks almost nailed it except for a clown-sized bow tie, which looked like it was wearing him instead of the other way around.)

Mumford & Sons Bassist Ted Dwane Undergoes Emergency Brain Surgery.
ReplyDeleteA blood clot on the brain of Mumford & Sons bassist Ted Dwane has forced the band to postpone three shows as his bandmates and scores of fans send him healing thoughts.
"Ted has been feeling unwell for a few days, and yesterday he was taken to a hospital to receive emergency treatment," reads a statement posted on the band's official website Tuesday.
"The scans revealed a blood clot on the surface of his brain that requires an operation. Ted is receiving excellent care and we are being assured that he will recover quickly from surgery."
The health scare has forced the band to postpone three concert dates this week, in Dallas, The Woodlands, Texas, and New Orleans, according to the site, which adds, "we have no plans to cancel or postpone any other appearances along this current tour."

Talk shows and press junkets are one thing, but it's quite another to be a superhero in a room full of leading men who have been tested at the box office. Put your clothes back on, Gyllenhaal! Jake rolled to Sony Pictures Studios, where the show taped, in a dark leather jacket and a scruffy beard but, as only Spike can, the network quickly got the actor’s gear off. Gyllenhaal climbed into a bathrobe and shaggy blond wig to impersonate Bridges in “The Big Lebowski,” to whom he presented the "Original Dude" trophy. We can only assume that one is eponymous. The release date of "Enemy" in the UK has been revised again. Now it's scheduled for release on September 13th. That's one week later than the originally planned date, but five weeks earlier than the previously revised release date.

I hate to ponder much on their target audience- overweight, beer gut, plays video games 22 hours a day on Mom's couch (other 2 hours watching a movie downloaded online illegally) and considers himself cool and manly because he watches Spike TV?

ReplyDeleteTracey Ullman is in negotiations to join the growing cast of Into the Woods, Disney’s adaptation of the Broadway musical being directed by Rob Marshall.
Ullman will join an all-star roster that so far includes Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Emily Blunt.
Ullman will play the mother to Jack the Giant Killer, who has yet to be cast.
Streep is playing a witch and Depp is taking on a variation of the fairy tale wolf. Gyllenhaal and Pine play princes to Cinderella and Rapunzel.

It was OK. It wasn't the funniest bit, but the clips from the movie were hilarious. Then Jeff came on. Jake's role was fairly brief. He joked about Jeff & Maggie. Jeff was very warm and funny and affectionate. You can see they're close.

I don't see how he can do Nightcrawlers this summer, and be in London for Into the Woods in September. Maybe the September date is flexible especially since they haven't finished casting it.
Well his part in Into the Woods is very small like most of the supporting cast right? A week or two at the most.

ReplyDeleteAccording to "Hollywood Reporter" filming of "Nightcrawler" will begin in late October. At least that's what they wrote seven weeks ago. I haven't got a clue, if the schedule holds, but it looks somewhat plausible to me (as well as the start of production of "Into the Woods" in September). On the other hand the schedule of "Mississippi Grind" looks very vague (start of production was scheduled for May, April, fall and summer, depending on which sources you read).
Something off-topic in the Guardian: Spielberg told students at USC they were vying to enter the film industry at a time when even established film-makers were struggling to get their projects into cinemas, and revealed that the Oscar-winning Lincoln came "this close" to being premiered on the US pay-TV network HBO."I think eventually the Lincolns will go away and they're going to be on television," Lucas added. "As mine almost was," Spielberg interjected. "This close – ask HBO – this close." "The pathway to get into theatres is really getting smaller and smaller," said Star Wars creator Lucas.
Apparently it won't be easy for Jake's independent movies.
I agree with Speilberg, Lucas, etc. Getting financing to make films, and getting distribution deals is getting more difficult, because on the business side of things the "suits" want guarantees.
ReplyDeleteI believe there's still a lot of uncertainty about how to effectively exploit new technologies and media outlets, & the way people can watch movies.
But I also believe distributors influence what appears at the local multiplex based on how they sell their film packages. When they sell a Fast/Furious 6 or Iron Man, they also have several smaller films attached, so theatre owners can't just pick out the commercial blockbusters without taking a few of what they regard as "weaker" titles.
Theatre owners complain, but they have to look at the way they do business. A small, personal example: We have two independent theatres in my community. One closed for renovations. When it reopened, it had plush new seats, a bar, a coffeehouse and a modest restaurant that served a limited menu. They've been opened for more than three years, doing a booming business.
People still like to go out to the movies. There's something singular and special about the collective experience of seeing a movie on the big screen with other people. So I think the market is still there, but getting the people who make financial decisions to buy into that is tough. Everyone seems to want the next Iron Man or Avatar. They're like Las Vegas:
Bet big, win big. But they lose big too. And when they drop $200M on one movie,d then spend the same amount to market it, and lose money, they have just dealt themselves out of generating more product at a time when there's a need for more product. They could be making the six or seven or ten smaller movies that would have done well.
Lincoln would have done wonderfully well on HBO, but it was filmed so beautifully, I'm glad I saw it on a big screen. It deserved a big screen.

Let's not get too way ahead of ourselves. Alot can happen in 2 1/2 years let alone 18 months. Until Jake or his reps announces he is in the movie, I am holding off in getting my hopes up for Into the Woods. I came back to earth and remember what a roller coaster ride it is being a Jake fan. Although I did gush for a couple of weeks over the rumors.
Looks like Jake enjoyed a play tonight.

She is really pretty, the girl having a meal with Jake. To be honest she looks better than Jake in those pictures. That frowny face looks like "why did I order this? I can't get my knife through it."

ReplyDeleteCamila Belle looks like a good guess, plus they do know eachother from events... Though as you said it is purely speculation, time will tell. All we see is two young people eating together, don't that happen all the time, date or not date?
On another more relaxed note: Looking at all the sightings from Jake, doesn't it strike you that he spends a lot of his free time in restaurants and food shops?? I mean, it's a great idea (I love food too) but... How on earth does he stay so fit and doesn't put on weight? Must do a lot of exercise to keep those calories out lol :)

That lady in the pictures is Jake's new wife, he got married last month. They are expecting a new baby on Decemeber 19th 2013. Jake will divorce her six months after the baby is born and then start dating again.

FP, there's a similarity, but I'm not sure it's the same guy. I'm definitely on the fence. I think IHJ has some photos of Jake at the Tonys that might help. Jake has a lot of friends, so it's possible, but I am sure that's the girl from the Fat Radish photos we saw. I hate vine. They're so fast and so short! We need more time to study! LOL! : )

ReplyDeleteAccording to Awardsdailyforums the reprise of "Agony" and most songs that are sung by the whole company ("First Midnight", "Second Midnight", "Act One Finale" and "Act Two Prologue") don't appear in the script of "Into the Woods". So Jake's role is rather small: "Agony" with Chris Pine and "Any Moment" (Part 1 and 2) with Emily Blunt.

For comparison the Wolf has only two duets, less than Cinderella Prince. Which means that Depp has a smaller role than Jake?

ReplyDeleteVery true. I'm sure the film makers are only to cut certain things from the original musical script while expanding other areas of the muscial. Because the truth is the lead characters in that musical are The Baker, The Baker's Wife and the Witch in that exact order. Following them The Storyteller, Jack, Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella are the most important characters in the musical. All the other characters including the two Princes are supporting roles.
It's going to be fun to see how Into The Woods is transferred to screen. The first act is hilarious. It's really fun. The second act is much darker. A few characters will be kicked off. And I'll say this: Cinderella's Prince may have more songs but it's Rapunzel's Prince who has the more emotional material.

Jake's Prince does more than singing: he marries Cinderella, seduces Baker's Wife and ends up with Sleeping Beauty. He's the one who "devours" women metaphorically.

Some of us are sitting here just stunned at the sad news about James Gandolfini. He died today in Italy of a heart attack while on vacation. He was only 51. Tony Soprano.

These models take pictures with each other all the time, so we don't know if they are really good friends, or if they are work "friends," or what the relationship is right now.
ReplyDeleteI got the impression that Jake knows a lot of models and dates different ones. I got that from watching him on that Hurricane Sandy relief program with the models. He was the only guy working on the phone bank with all those girls on his shift, and they looked like they were having fun with it.
I think the models try to get along and keep good spirits when they are doing the photo shoots together in a group, like with the Sports Illustrated Swimsuits or Victoria Secrets.
But it does seem a little uncomfortable when everyone knows one another, and works together, and socializes together, and they are all dating the same guys whether it's Jake or Adam Levine or Leo.
I was stunned to see this, just wow. Rest in peace James Gandolfini.
