Fastest post update ever: Video and story from the Q&A done by Scott Feinberg last month:

In this MTV interview, Jake talks about the movie; Robert Graysmith and Chloe Sevigny talk about Jake: There are more videos at MTV, as well. Jake appeared on Saturday Night Live in January, 2007 to promote Zodiac, which had been scheduled for a January release. (It was delayed.) The Shins performed, and Anita Robinson sang back up with the Shins. This photo was just posted:

After that he’s in Nailed, about a small-town waitress with a nail lodged in her head. We’re intrigued.
Either that's lazy reporting or Esquire knows something we don't know about Nailed.

ReplyDeleteGood job! Jake joking about Inside the Actors Studio, gave me hope!: ) Lots of interesting tidbits in that interview. I LOL'd when Jake said Natalie Martinez's lines were improvised in the wedding scene.
ReplyDeleteThe question about balancing work and family,was interesting. From other comments, we know he's very close to faimly. But it also made me think, that yes, he comes from a famly of filmmakers, but there's a very unpretentious, down to earth quality about Jake that's authentic to me.
I think his sense of family, even the way he treats his friendships, keeps him grounded. He can go thru all the red carpets, the awards season craziness, and still know who he is and be who he is. He's not impressed with the artificial. That comes thru in this interview.

We had bullet-proof vests on all the time. Cops get shot at all the time in South Central so somebody doing a movie about cops? They’re not gonna care. What was weird though was seeing the paparazzi because they follow Jake anywhere. That was so odd. Paparazzi are insane in LA, they just don’t give a rat’s ass! There’s a bunch of gangsters and then you’ll see a long lens through the gangsters: “Can you move to the right, please?... Jake! Jake! Jake! Love you, Jake!” They’ll do anything for a shot! They actually started paying people a hundred bucks so they could be on their roof if they knew we were going to be shooting.

I did find it a little frustrating that Scott Feinberg didn't bring up anything negative regarding Jake's career: I wish someone would ask him about PoP or about some movies not working the way he hoped.
ReplyDeleteI wish Jake were the "go-to" guy in Hollywood. He should be, but he's not.
Also, I wish Jake could feel comfortable talking about the time in his life when he did have to work around kids' schedules. I'm not saying he should talk about Reese and her children in detail. But when he speaks in such vague generalities, everything is too theoretical.
I understand why he is reluctant, but the parts of the interview where he uses real examples are so much more engaging and interesting.
Also, that is so weird. I swear I checked that 5:01 link and it was one of those black and white photos from the Details shoot. But it is now a very nasty link. Deleted.
The post contains some oldies but goodies! I agree UV, not only PoP but films like LAOD and Rendition had to have been disappointments as far as critical reception and BO is concerned.

I really enjoyed this interview. I had not stopped to think that Jake already has 21-year career, which I consider one of the best of Hollywood, since he acted in many good movies and masterpieces such as Brokeback and Zodiac.

Saw Skyfall last night didnt realize that Sam Mendes was the director.By the way it was a great movie really action packed.

He and John Mayer - something in common - songs written about them from Taylor Swift.
Through all the Reese stuff - being bombarded by "her side" rather from real comments from those around her or some made up things he Never commented about it.
Only thing i've seen is saying he had known some extraordinary women in his life.
Everyone guessing and mostly right about TS songs about him - he has not said anything. Even if someone ask I bet he doesn't say much or anything at all. Maybe someday he may talk about them, but don't feel it would be for quite a while, and then no detail.
He has been a gentleman through all of this.

I thought the THS interview was great. Jake spoke about how important family was, nothing was more important (this was in response the guy who asked him how he balanced work and family) He also said ask him that same question in a couple of years. I take that to mean he'll probably be married and have kids by then and then it won't be just his sister, mother he'll be talking about. (wife and kids)

Oy. We don't have any idea what was going on, so we can't really get too exercised about it. Gossip Cop is a good idea, but he doesn't seem all that consistent or even knowledgeable at times. I doubt Jake's people had anything to do with it. They'd have to actually pay attention to Jake's online presence for that to happen!
ReplyDeleteDid anyone watch SNL? It was a pretty disappointing episode, though the opening monologue/number was good. As were Anne H's Katie Holmes and Claire Danes impersonations.
But for a show after the election, the political stuff was spotty and nowhere near as much as prevalent as it should have been. After being one of the players in the 208 elections, SNL was pretty irrelevant this year. (And yes, I know Sarah Palin/Tina Fey was a major reason last time around.)

I do agree that his PR team should just ignore it. But it doesn't really matter: It will become part of gossip lore, like the expensive bracelet and flying TS to London, etc. Gossip Cop debunked all of that but people still think it all happened.

She's a marketing phenomenon, IMO, relentless, wildly successful, and emblematic of how absurd certain aspects of popular culture can seem to some of us. But that's just me.; )

ReplyDeleteRecently I read that "Skyfall" and "Jarhead" not only have the same director, but also the same cinematographer (Roger Deakins). Visually "Jarhead" is my favorite movie with Jake.
I still prefer "Casino Royale" to "Skyfall", but I enjoyed it quite a lot. And I saw an EoW trailer before "Skyfall". :)

Neither photo link works for me. I do see a photo of Jake and the tweeter dressed as groomsmen. The tweeter is a friend of Marcus Mumford's, so it could be a photo of Jake at the wedding, even though it looks photoshopped.
ReplyDeleteI saw Skyfall yesterday, too. I liked it, but it sort of falls apart at the end. And I was displeased by one major plot point.
Javier Bardem was good. I don't think it's Oscar-worthy, but I know a lot of people agree with you, Monica.

I saw end of watch, it's a good movie, mainly because of the great chemistry between Jake and Michael. The scenes of them together are so much fun.
ReplyDeleteI had problems with the villain (weak) and some scenes, that footage gave me a headache.
Deakins has nine Oscar nominations and zero wins. He once again did a great job in Skyfall.
