Timely, topical and totally unverified information about Jake Gyllenhaal

Old friends
Sunday night saw the premiere of My Week With Marilyn, starring Michelle Williams as the Hollywood legend. Jake Gyllenhaal was in attendance, in support of his friend and former costar. Williams wore Christian Dior, while Jake sported his new favorite designer, CZNY.
Some shots of Jake and Michelle through the years
Found this old video with the BAFTA press moment when Heath and Michelle reveal that Jake is Matilda's godfather:
I know this is absurd, but I just finished a marathon reading of the old RPS fanfic trilogy by Elfie (Down the Mountain/Water Walking/Moth to the Flame), and when I first saw these photos, it was jarring. Because I was in "Michelle hates Jake" mode.
Ridiculous, I'm aware. But in light of that, this typo from the Daily Mail really made me laugh:
She became close to the Australian on the set of the film, and they dated until 2007, having a daughter Matilda Rose in 2005. The cast had become so close they asked Jake Gyllenhaal to be her stepfather.
Beautiful post UV, I love seeing those two, they are so supportive of each other. The second pic of the Oscars is just breathtaking, it looks like their dancing. Jake must be super protective of Matilda.
I think Jake read our comments on how hot he looks, because he´s been wearing the same thing to every event and wants to please us.
What a lovely way to start the day, I love that they are good friends. I love the Oscar pic of them they look so close and intimate.
I'm so happy that Jake was there to support her, she is getting major Oscar buzz for Marilyn. I bet he is spending time with Matilda while he is in NY (LOL@ The Daily Mail typo, stepfather!)
He sure likes that outfit, I just hope it doesn't fall apart in the wash! I wonder why he is wearing his glasses in public all of a sudden (not that i'm complaining, I think he looks sexy!)Maybe he is having problems with his contacts.
You were in a Michelle hates Jake mode UV? Do you mind me asking why, just curious?
A shout out to Suvee from the previous thread, yes I have noticed how Peter is aging quite nicely:)
I was wondering if Jake was going to go to Michelle's premiere. I knew it was being shown yesterday at the NY Film Festival. It's nice how he supports his friends.
I'm glad they are hanging out together. I hope he'll still be in NY for Matilda's birthday on the 28th. (maybe even his sister's birthday next month)
it's nice to have seen them get together over the years.
Loved the clip of Heath saying Jake was Matilda's Godfather. I have to wonder why he picked Jake over his mate Trevor? I mean it's all good
i never had the impression that michelle hated jake, on the contrary, i think she likes him a lot. i think it's mutual. it's just not easy figuring out if it's just platonic. I guess time will tell. i'm glad jake seems to be such a support for michelle and her little gal. it's wonderful to see michelle getting yet again great reviews. i hope jake will be as lucky with his newest project. fingers crossed.
A great post with wonderful pictures! So good to see Jake supporting Michelle. She is so gorgeous. I read that she is receiving many compliments. Anxious to see My Week With Marilyn.
UV, I have not read this fanfic that you mentioned.
LOL, Paula C. It would please me if he changed it up a bit. But as long as he doesn't go back to khakis, I won't complain.
Lily, it was fun to see that clip There are always a lot of reasons people choose godparents. It's not a slight for Trevor. Maybe Matilda has more than one godfather.
Extra and passing by, I was referring to a fanfic that I just reread. Not real life. I felt foolish even connecting the two, which is why I said it was absurd. Just silliness :)
Monica and Paula, I can send you the fic if you want. It's no longer available. It's a very long, lovingly written story but it is heavy on the angst. And it was never completed. After Heath's death, the author didn't want to continue.
I have a lot of issues with the story, but it is very compelling. Lots of wonderful details. Lots of love.
Thought i'd read somewhere Jake and Michelle had met before they'd made BBM. Picture of them at one of the Awards ceremonies when BBM was nominated - just them talking together - and looked happy talking to each other.
“I had two actors in mind for Sam, and one of them was Jake. And I met with Jake, and I immediately fell in love with him. He’s such a nice guy, such a down-to-earth person, you know. He’s such a good actor, so I was like kind of - I didn’t even meet the other guy.” — Director of The Day After Tomorrow Roland Emmerich on why he cast Jake Gyllenhaal.
And this:
In other news, my classmates & I were waiting for the train when Jake Gyllenhaal gets off the train right in front of us. And this guy from my class is all, “OH MY GOD, IT’S HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIM!”
I forgot, again, to respond to suvee in the same post. Having seen it, I don't think Ides was a big missed opportunity for Jake artistically. But it was a missed opportunity on the buzz meter. And just selfishly, I would love to have seen him in all those shots and sharing the screen with Clooney, et al.
Very disturbing following the Occupy Boston Twitter. The police have gone in now, and it sounds scary. I wish the mayor had avoided this. Fingers crossed that the protesters can stand their ground, and that violence is kept to a minimum. I don't think the cops want to be there.
Wonderful post UV pics video UV...best way to go off to get my treatments. My email is rnmin@yahoo.com...Would you please send me a copy of what sounds like a good fanfic. See ya later when I'll be really loopy. Please let me know if I mess up on here; I worry about that since I seem to like to post at those times... I just previewed this post; I don't know why I'm in boldface print. Sorry. :( xxx sass
Michelle looks stunning and Jake looks like your typical hipster, such a contrast:)
So happy to see that he is there supporting her, first for BV and now for My Evening with MM which from all reports so far may get her a another AA nomination.
I heard about what happened last night in Boston with the Occupy Boston protesters, I hope they hold their ground. There have been protests here in CT as well, not as big as in NY, Boston, etc but the movement is growing and getting support.
LMAO Monica, it would be an interesting poll to find out who is worst!
Nice words from Mr. Emmerich but I don't think he ever made a good film IMO.
What happened in Boston is disturbing, if they were tresspassing the whole situation could have been handled differently, obviously someones's chains are being rattled, good!
Very disturbing, Extra. My favorite tweet of the night was "We have a permit. It's called the Constitution."
I think Emmerich's newest picture, Anonymous, is getting good reviews. It's about Shakespeare and who really wrote all those plays. I saw a preview, and it's certainly a departure. Looked pretty good.
Sass, I'll send it along. It's very long, so it should provide some hours of entertainment.
Also, your post wasn't in bold, so it must have been something with your browser. Please don't worry about your posts - you don't sound any loopier than the rest of us :) Good luck - sending all good thoughts.
I've seen previews for Anonymous, too, and you're right, it's a departure. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
I saw Ides, and have to say, I agree with 99% (!) of what the rest of you have said. I worked with the Paul Giamatti and the Philip Seymour Hoffman types for many years, and I was very disappointed.
Compared to Michael Clayton, which was brilliantly written and acted, it fell way short. Clooney phoned in his performance. I thought RG gave it his best, but in the end, it just wasn't a good fit.
UV, you put it best: "... he just never seems as smart as the character he's playing is supposed to be. "
Jake & Clooney going head to head would have been electric. I believe Jake could've given the character more edge. Jake's a master at letting his expressions "talk" in a scene, conveying a lot.
I like RG. I think he's a good actor. But IMO, Jake's stillness has a way of radiating a certain energy, and with other actors it comes across as wooden. There's a kind of inertia.
I think Jake could've overcome similarities with other characters he's played, because even among the most jaded, cynical, manipulative, and dissembling as political operatives, there's always a streak of buried idealism that makes a person say, "This time, this candidate is different. He's the real deal!" Followed by disillusionment.
Political operatives give up a piece of their lives working for a candidate and there's a need to justify it. Ides was a heavy handed parable that just didn't work. It could have been a really good movie.
They are all fine actors, but weren'tt served well by the way the storyline unfolded, or the script. Jennifer Ehle was wasted once again.
Poor Jennifer Ehle. Even less time than she had in The King's Speech. Also, she was sort of unrecognizable. Too blonde, too thin, too Hollywood. Pity.
I was just discussing Ides at lunch, and my friend's appraisal of the movie has actually gone down. Apparently, it's being described as a political thriller, but we both agreed that it is not a thriller.
From twitter:
Just saw Jake Gyllenhaal running outside my office during my lunch break. Life got exponentially better for 5 secs. Who wears short shorts?? 39 minutes ago
The person who posted the first twitter must be a moron.PS- regardless of Jake starring in October Sky, the movie is just a great and sweet coming-of-age story.
I like Jake in glasses but I think that these frames are a bit to big, Michele looks fabulous!
I love the Bafta photos of Jake, Michele and Heath, I was so thrilled that Jake one that night, they all looked so happy.
Thanks for your review of Ides of March Bobbyanna and UV, it's is giving me second thoughts about seeing it in the theaters, I may wait until it comes out on DVD.
That tweeter is just pissed because Jake refused to take a picture. I love OS, it's one of my fav. Jake films.
JaredEng Just Jared Jake Gyllenhaal & Parker Posey are here at Martha Marcy May Marlene screening to support Elizabeth Olsen and Hugh Dancy 3 hours ago
I'm glad Jake's taking advantage of the NYFF screenings! Isn't Elizabeth Olsen one of the actors who signed on to Naomi Foner's project?
I bet Jake gets asked for photographs and autographs a lot.
Suvee, it's always great to "see" you! : ) Yeah, Peter is aging nicely.: )
I don't want to discourage people from seeing Ides, it's just that I think they missed an opportunity. I'm interested in other reactions to it.
It's not really about Ryan's performance, because he did a decent job. More about his limitations with the character, and the direction and the script.
I think the people that this kind of movie appeals to are people who will demand more than they gave us.
Oh, yes, they say that Elizabeth is great. One of the best performances of the year. I wonder if Naomi Foner is there too, because she was going to direct Elizabeth in that film that was canceled.
That sounds likely, SAG Actor. Financing problems are pretty typical for a lot of films. It could also involve scheduling issues too. Dakota Fanning has a pretty busy schedule.
The last I heard the film was delayed due to funding, which is a real shame because the film has an incredible cast, but I sincerely hope everything goes well for Naomi and that this is just a minor setback.

Aww, UV! I haven't read those in ages! I remember getting thru the first two and wanting to also strangle Heath's character...as written.: )
I'm happy Jake is getting out to the festival screenings and supporting Michelle.
Extra, you're right, Jake definitely has his "dress up" unifrom! Makes packing pretty simple I guess.
UV, I meant to thank you for the rare photo you found of Jake at that gallery party!! Your diligence paid off!

Thanks Mary :D
Lily
I was hoping that Jake would make an appearance at the screening last night, I love Michele's dress!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane with Jake, Heath and Michele, much happier times.
I think Jake is getting used to wearing his glasses in public, hos contact may be causing him problems at the moment.
Thought i'd read somewhere Jake and Michelle had met before they'd made BBM.
Picture of them at one of the Awards ceremonies when BBM was nominated - just them talking together - and looked happy talking to each other.
"Anon" I recall reading that too, that they'd met before or knew each other before BBM, from when Michelle was involved with some theatre work.
Just an FYI: Carey Fukunaga was Michelle's date at the premiere. They've been dating for a while.
Found this on tumblr:
“I had two actors in mind for Sam, and one of them was Jake. And I met with Jake, and I immediately fell in love with him. He’s such a nice guy, such a down-to-earth person, you know. He’s such a good actor, so I was like kind of - I didn’t even meet the other guy.”
