Playing dress up

Jake Gyllenhaal attended the Costume Institute Gala, aka the Met Ball, last night. Here he is with Marcus Mumford, leaving before the clock struck midnight and he was forced back into those green cargo pants.

Of course, the photo doesn't actually show his trousers...

Phew!

Jake was decidedly dressed down at the Lucille Lortel Awards on Sunday. He got to present the Featured Actress Award to his If There Is costar, Annie Funke:

He also took a photo with the very excited members of a dance troupe that performed at the awards:

From Facebook:

Enjoyed dancing with these talented dancers and checking Jake Gyllenhaal of my "sexy people I want to.meet" Bucket list. You can't see but my arm is wrapped around his leg like a snake. Specifically like a boa constrictor or any other animal tgat grabs on a little too tight.

  7. From an article about the whirlwind of Great Gatsby events:

Early last Thursday morning, Leonardo DiCaprio was sitting in the basement of The Darby as a long line of girls came toward him carrying bursting bottles of champagne affixed with firecrackers. Jay-Z held court in a corner booth. Tobey Maguire danced on a banquette. And Mr. DiCaprio—Jay Gatsby—looked on with a smile. The pitch of the screams swung higher as fiery droplets of bubbly got closer to the movie star.

“Do you come to these parties often?” asked my companion, her lips at my ear.

Jay-Z was now bouncing to “Who Gon Stop Me,” as Jake Gyllenhaal and Florence Welch rapped along, standing on a table, towering above Carey Mulligan, Tom Hardy, Jamie Foxx and other Hollywood royalty.

  8. Jake does look very dashing. I didn't expect to see pictures of hi from the Met Ball, at all, let alone to have him look so good!

And I should have done some captions for Marcus. His expression is hilarious.

  11. Great photos, UV, you always find the best stuff! ; )

I'm glad to know the Poetry event will be live-streamed, too.

I hope more pictures surface from the Gala & the After Party, and hopefully some of the other events.

The idea of Jake and Florence Welch rappin while Jay Z stands on a table performing sounds like a fun time.

Jake seems to have gotten caught up in the Gatsby excitement, and that's great.

From the little we can observe about his life in NYC, I think he is thriving there. I'm glad he left L.A. (Plus they don't tweet very well...: ) )

Passed Jake Gyllenhaal on my way into work this morning. Is this a good or bad sign for the day? Discuss.

It depends. Did you sucker punch him?
I did not. He had such a massive beard it seemed it would simply cushion the blow. He appears to be adapting.

  22. Well I am a bit biased but it was a good poem and he did more than just read, he felt it.

The auctioner is very entertaining and kudos to Jake for the first $5000 need fulfilled.

  33. Jake's not dating Emily. His rep dismissed that awhile ago. If they were dating, do you really think she would've gone to Taylor's concert last month?

we are here for jake gyllenhaal the actor, his movies, photos, appearances, not his dates.

  36. 8:52, this blog doesn't ignore the fact that Jake dates. We do try to be intelligent & respectful. If the Daily Mail is going to run a spread based on the fact this swimsuit model is dating Jake, and I believe this is the second time, then it's not unusual that someone would comment on it.

Yes, I also read that Jake's PR rep shot down the rumored romance. They probably did date at one time, but no longer.

LOL! Jake is stealthy. It seems that by the time the tabloids get hold of something it's old news, and he's moved on.

    ReplyDelete
  37. " We do try to be intelligent & respectful"

I certainly can't speak for everyone, but UV has created a wonderful place to talk about Jake and various aspects of his life, and most of the people who post here are respectful and intelligent. : )

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think poster 8:52 is right and express a general feelling like I had enough of people dismissing all the rumors of Jake and his dates. It happens always on this blog. Always somebody come and say No, he's not dating X or Y. Pics from Met Costume Gala, War Poetry but no, somebody jumps He's not dating Emily. More important things are in Jake's life and career.

  44. Is there any word on An Enemy and it's release in North America or anything.

I'm afraid there isn't. Recently Pathé deleted the release date for France (August 28th). That might indicate that the post production of "An Enemy" will take somewhat longer. ("Prisoners" has a very tight post production schedule until its release in September. I'm not sure if Denis Villeneuve has enough time to focus on "An Enemy" right now.)

BTW I hope we get some news on "Mississippi Grind" soon.

  45. Hi everybody, I saw one Great Gatsby Review and said that DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan's "Chemistry Is Barely Detectable"...Mulligan, who reportedly beat the likes of Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson for the role, only succeeds in looking radiant in her sparkly Prada gowns and diamond-encrusted headbands. She fails to embody Daisy’s beguiling charm and sophistication, withering next to the reliably solid DiCaprio. In fact, DiCaprio doesn’t get to truly shine until the closing act when he breaks free from Mulligan and Maguire and goes for a swim in his backyard pool. And that moment is. . . fleeting.
For a movie that strives to be Great, it all feels just a little too average.
And I just saw another review from Daily mail that just say almost the same thing, the only thing that they agree is about the music that is great. I think i need to see and make my own conclusion.

  46. OMG Jake Gyllenhaal just made us SWOON even more than usual!! We didn’t even think that was possible!

First off, the guy is beautiful, so that in itself is definitely swoon-worthy. Secondly, he READS POETRY, which by default should make anyone swoon. Thirdly, the man is caring, generous, and knows how to ease tensions in a crowd! Swoons all around!!

At the Headstrong Project's Words of War event in New York, Jake used his theatrically trained voice to recite Wilfred Owen’s Dulce et Decorum Est (which is a GREAT poem, btw) to the attendees there.

    SO ADORBZ.

Now, as this was an event with the intention of raising money to help military vets who are in need of mental health care, there was also an auction portion of the event.

That’s when the event had one of those awkward moments where people were supposed to bid on stuff for charity, but nobody did.

Nobody, that is, UNTIL Jake Gyllenhaal stepped up to the plate and dropped 5 G’s in the name of psychotherapy for posttraumatic stress disorder!!

Way to go, Jakey!! Loves it! What a man!!

  59. I'm seeing it tomorrow, too. I think we're going for 3D, but I hope it doesn't give me a headache. People always complain about that.

And LOL, Scott. A lot of people will definitely think it was Jake. And seeing how well it is doing this weekend makes me wish again that it was. Sigh.

Thanks for the news on An Enemy, Hagen. I hope we hear about an American release for it. I see that Ryan Gosling's directorial debut has already been sold before Cannes. Mississippi Grind is going to be peddled by the same company.

  67. Well, I saw Gatsby and I liked it. There were definitely flaws and weaknesses, but the overall experience was very enjoyable. It was a Baz Lurman extravaganza, visually stunning. IMO It had an "Alice Through the Looking Glass" fantasy feel to it. I loved the soundtrack. It worked well with the movie. The film opens with Nick Carraway's voice narrating, and of course I kept hearing Jake's voice and it was irritating that it was Tobey and not Jake, but eventually I got used to Tobey being Nick.
